Great Mountain to ski at if you are a veteran skier or a rookie. This mountain really excels with families of all types of skill level but mainly young families or first time skiing families, there is three peaks, one peak is designated just for new to rookie riders! The other two mountains are for experienced to thrill seeking skiers. The prices to ski here are cheap compared to their competitors, this mountain is the best bang for your buck. But the low price comes at a cost, the base logs are not as glorious as say Sugarbush or Stowe, they are more just like traditional ski lodges. They have a bar, food, a place to sit down, TV and heat, in my opinion all that anyone skiing will need! Lodges 7/10, Trails 9/10, Staff 10/10, Housing 6/10.
Buy the Bash Badge if you're an occasional mountain goer. It's the best value at only $30 a day. The lift lines are super quick and the trails are superb. One entire mountain is got basic green slopes. The other two are majority of blue and black all the way up to triple black diamond. The majority of all three have tons of snow makers, but this is Vermont, they are hardly ever needed. Smuggler's notch gets insane amounts of powder. As a newbie skier this place is way beyond my technical skill but I plan on getting tons better.
Never been thinking about it how's the snowboarding?
Classic 80s feel.
Good food, but very expensive.
Great ski location with decent prices, compared to other ski areas. Good customer service. I have been here a few times, and plan on returning again in the future.
Upgrade to the curly fries!
Felt Vermonters' warmth from the office lady, Ham. The inn's people were flexible, straightforward and gentle.
Great laid back no frills skiing
Typical day lodge for a ski area.
Good place to shop and hangout
Such a great place for families.
Great tavern at the base lodge.
Awesome Awesome Awesome. My favorite place to ski⛷⛷⛷
Have been coming here for years. Gets crowded on weekends. Had to wait 30 mins for a ride up the mountain. Freindly, helpful staff.
Overpriced food, but pretty decent quality for a ski resort.
For those who have not been to the upper base lodge, there is no parking on the side of the road as the base lodge. You will need to park across Rt. 108 or park in the upper parking lot which really is not walking distance. So if you are with a group of people or especially kids, it would be easier to drop them off then go find a parking spot. The lodge does face towards the ski slops so you can watch people ski down and there is an outdoor deck to sit out on the warmer/nice days. Plenty of seating, hot cafeteria food, a bar downstairs and a restaurant with good hearty food.
Beautiful and thrilling
I love Smuggs! It's one of my favorite mountains in VT to ski. There are a wonderful variety of trails to try and the glades are excellent to explore. It's one of Vermont's best mountains for all levels.
Good place to relax after some great Smuggs skiing
Only place I
Amazing beautiful
Family friendly resort in the beautiful green mountains of vermont. I grew up vacationing here and love coming back to hike and ski. World class ski instructors and excellent terrain for learning and to challenge yourself. Can't wait to come back.
It's a ski lodge. overpriced food and drink with a friendly atmosphere. Great place to catch your breath
Nice place but kind of like middle school cafeteria with tiny benches.no other seats other than the lounge
Loved it.
Real nice place! If you want to go where the locals do, and not pay an arm and a leg, than this is the place for you!
Nice place to ski.
Love smuggs!
Lodge is tiny and food options aren't great. They even charge for the cups if you get a cup of water with your lunch!
Beautiful slopes and friendly staff. If you want to go skiing for a weekend but don't want to go to Killington or Okemo, Smuggs is the way to go. The only issue I had was the jumps in difficulty from each slope. The blacks were way harder than the blues, which were way harder than the greens. Other than that, nice compact resort that has a lot to offer!
Good clam chowder...a bit pricey for what ya get, but that's to be expected at a ski lodge
Excellent!
Iconic Smuggler's Notch - amazing terrian, northern Vermont skiing at its best! Great family resort with amenities including the new Funzone 2.0 and classic New England skiing on Madonna and Sterling mountain. Highly recommend - on the scenic Vermont Route 108.
Great lodge, no crowded, made us custom french fries with no salt too! Clean, tidy and warm. Great place to relax between riding/skiing
This is a review of the mountain. The lodge has plenty of room every time we have skied here. The trails are varied, great options for everyone. The glades are top notch (my husband is the glade skiier), but they seem to have a few trails for the advanced skier ready to expand into the glades. The lifts are slow and disorganized. It is mildly baffling that they dont have better organization as they are double chairs! But the snowfall they get is some of the best totals in the area.
Where I grew up. Coming here since I was 6. Best woods around!
5 dollars for a cup of o.j. not impressed.
Great glades. Never a line.
Had a real good time skiing Smugglers Notch! We didn't spend much time at the base because we could ski to our condo.
Nice, but prices are a bit high.
Fresh powder and great conditions
Barebones base lodge. The food is good, but compared to something like Stowe it's not much to look at. But you're not here for the food or amenities, so eh!
Great food
Friendly staff. Tons of off mountain activities for kids.
Très belle montagne ! Point négatif, les remontées mécaniques sont désuètes .
Dated interior. In need of a renovation, but kind rustic feel. It's still charming.
Nothing fancy but perfect
Such a wonderful family resort!!!
Love Smuggs!! Fun skiing atmosphere!
Great resort! Very friendly staff!
As a place to be... Blah. Good potential and layout, but utilized.
Very expensive $7 for one slice of pizza ain't worth it
Food is downright terrible, but then again I've rarely had good food at ski resort base lodge. Very family friendly and well set up so you don't lose the party you are with. And while the food is fair, there is a pretty good variety. Just avoid the over priced grill!
Decent food for an okay price.
Amazing skiing. The lifts are long, and sometimes the lines are, but the skiing once you get there is incredible. One suggestion would to be have 4 person lifts, or run them faster. There was always a huge bottleneck getting up the mountain.
Old school, as in overpriced cafeteria food. Small. Not enough cubbies or coat hooks.
powder for daysss
Super fun
Great for family ski vacation! My family always have a good time here, friendly staff, everyone is so nice, the units need some updates, but in general this is an awesome place to stay
The best family resort in the east, there's something for everyone. Whether you're hitting the slopes for the first time or you're very experienced, you're going to have a good time.
Love Smuggs, always a great day
Awesome mountain but they need to do some work on the lodges and ticketing. It took over an hour to pick up tickets we had already purchased.
Always a fun time at the Black Bear
We just got back from our second spring break at Smugglers. I have to say we were luck these past year's with 3-4 feet of snow falling during both stays. That was just the icing. The resort has everything a family needs and they make it easy. Our kids lived their all day camps and 2 hour lessons. The newly opened Fun Zone 2.0 has plenty to entertain a specific age group without needing to pay for extras. Plenty of programming after the lifts close kept us happy on those evenings we still had energy. Looking forward to our next trip.
Smuggs is a great family resort with a wide variety of skiing. The Base lodge is nothing fancy but has both restaurant and cafeteria options.
This eatery on Madonna Mtn. has a decent pub downstairs with several brews and ales with a few ciders as well. Upstairs is a small cafeteria with burgers, soups, pizza and wraps. Prices are fair for a resort type area but you will drop $100 for lunch in the pub for 2 adults/ 2 children and ~$60 upstairs in the cafeteria.
Great
Great skiing with varied terrain. Lifts are not high speed but they get you there eventually. Family oriented mountain.
Cafeteria is quick food, service downstairs at Black Bear can take a while sometimes. Green peppers is now waited service as well which kind of defeated what I liked about the place (decent food where I could get out and back on the mountain quick). All three are basically the same menu. Decent food that gets the job done.
Always a great time skiing with fiends and family. The conditions are some of the best around.
Great skiing, long lines, poor parking, inconvenient lodges. Really great skiing though. I like the RFID tickets... Except the fact that it costs an extra $5.. and I should be able to but a half day ticket online!
The bartenders were nice. Pabst Blue Ribbon was doing a promotion on the day we went. Got some free swag!
Love everything about it!!!
Great powder day!
Amazing!! Great hills and great condition
Great chili!
Good place to stop while hitting the slopes for a drink or six.
Good food good beer
Best skii lodge ever. Stayed in PR Suite up in Owls, great fun
Great time great place
Good food and really good Prohibition Ale.
Great meeting place
Great traditional ski area, good prices, awesome glades!
Busy place the day I was there a ski race was going on
Just plain great
Horrible food.
This place is so cool. Kimda retro, but thats the point! Trails have a lot of features to them. Fantastic on a pow day. Separate peak for family ventures. Most of the gnar is found on the pther peaks.
Long turning trails with fast lifts and friendly people. Beginner to Expert you'll love this place
Good base lodge...can be crowded on busy weekends however week days usually penty of space. Warm, places to put stuff. Food. Not the most fancy lodge ever but eho needs fancy..has a older style charm.
Great place
Overall my favorite place to ski in Vermont!!
Plenty of space, plenty of tables, solid food options with moderate pricing.
Smuggs has a ton going for it. Great terrain and good vibes. The big problem here are the small amount of lifts that are slow. The waits can kinda suck on powder days. That being said the terrain is amazing and there's lots of stuff to do for kids.
Food is ok at best. I had pizza, was greasy and not very good.
Delicious, and clean. -1 for prices.
The rooms were nice but everything closed too early. The food was very expensive and not very good.
Nice place
Nice bar/restaurant with friendly staff!
Great skiing but apres ski food at base lodge seemed over priced for the quality
Prices are reasonable, staff is friendly, lodge is small but lively and well kept.
Luv working at black bear
Huge fan of smuggs!
Nice family place with plenty to do for new borns to 100.
Great place to warm up and grab some food
Season Pass Holder for MANY Years!
Wonderful staff. I loved the burger and they have Switchback!
Disc golf at Smuggs is amazing
Cozy, warm, perfect.
Okay lodge, but really good skiing!
Good prices
Table service now available at green peppers cafe - liked that change!
Wonderful ski mountain, widest variety of terrain and an amazing amount of mountain to cover, three different mountains for all skills! And the lodging is second to none in vermont. Worth the cash.
Great opportunity to explore the steep parts of Vermont. Nice staff and updated facilities!
This place is great conditions seemingly always
Came here with Queens College and such an amazing experience! Snowboarding and ski instructors were knowledgeable and the mountain trails were amazing. They have a general store here for all your needs which I made frequent visits to to buy supplies for my week long trip. Only downside to smugglers Notch was that they need to upgrade their lifts. Sometimes lifts were slow and unprotected against the winds.
Great for skiing vacations. Great for families.
The hill and amenities, fantastic. The line to pickup your pre-paid & reserved lift-tickets, slow and unorganized. One line was having ‘computer issues’ and couldn’t help anyone unless they were buying full-price tix. Thankfully, once you’ve got your RFID card you can reload it online and skip the ticket line going forward. Couple tweaks and that process should be running smoothly. Fingers crossed!
Kid friendly and if you take the tour you get a free sample of ice cream at the end it's definitely worth visiting
Hasn't been updated in a while. Prices are really steep for disappointing pub grub.
Perfect day.
Good long runs. A wide range from lots of beginner slopes up to very difficult multi-diamond runs. Nice staff. Reasonably priced. My only complaint: The lifts are not express and take forever to get up the mountain! If they added an express quad this would get five stars.
My home away from home!
The best resort in Vermont, smuggs over Stowe any day
This building has been there forever, but it serves it purpose. Ridiculously expensive for mediocre food, like mist ski base lodges.
Love to ski Smuggs
Needs renovations
Awesome
What a beautiful and amazing place
They have plenty of pepper n salt
Classic Lodge at the base of Madonna and Sterling. There's a lot more going on at the base of noise because of the village condos.
Love the family feel and great skiing condictions, the also have a Waffle Cabin , true Belgian Waffles slope side.
Cool place with lots of things to do with kids
I've been skiing here since I was five and it is still my favorite place to ski. It's perfect for families, the are a million events for kids and parents every night. There's also no crowds, I get confused when there's a line for the lift. Most importantly, it has some of the best skiing on the east coast. The runs are gorgeous and well maintained.
Pretty old, grungy. Not kept particularly clean, food all over the tables and floors. Bathrooms are dirty. Not much room to stash your gear.
Coming from a Sugarbush native who is exploring new slopes, Smugg's base lodge is definitely..."cozy". Always overcrowded on a Saturday, but most people are friendly enough to offer you a small spot. All employees are courteous and keep everything clean and efficient! Hit the slopes early or on a weekday to avoid all the congestion.
Two years in a row and this place is amazing. Employees are on another level nice. Lift lines are short and trails well maintained
Really cool very good food
Great place to hang out. Food is nothing impressive but good overall.
Always awesome. Great snow this year. No lift lines dispite the parking lots being full.
Mountain is splendid but too bad they don"t invest on a quad chair at Madonna.
great trails for all levels if difficulty, overall awesome place to be when there is snow, and even in months when there is not
Excellent terrain, great staff, never disappoints!
Real cool place. Very family friendly. Affordable compared to other places I've been
We loved this place, rustic and unpretentious. The hill itself is quite high and offers great terrain with moderate steepness. Conditions, are of course subjective and variable but I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in the terrain itself. Two stars removed because we paid full price on Sunday and the Madonna lifts (giving access to over 1/2 of the terrain) were closed, also restaurant only serves greasy spoon fare and these days in VT I would expect a little effort for some local products.
awesome powder
Smuggs is a fun mountain. There is a lot of terrain ranging from beginner to expert. I love riding in the trees and glades when there's natural snow. Plenty of area to explore and have fun. Smuggs dining and bar experience is lacking compared to other mountains, in my opinion, the overall atmosphere, quality and price pale in comparison to other mountains.
Good food, good service, reasonable price.
Pretty standard ski lodge but great staff
Fresh
One of my favorite ski areas...
With some fresh snow you can't beat the trails midweek.
The restaurant here is good, they get you out pretty fast.
