Good food at a good price. Place could use some updating and deep cleaning.
Great place for some comfort food.
Yummy homemade style food
Slow to get service and food. If you have all day probably you'll like it
An old family restaurant that still exists. I used to go there as a child for ice cream cones. They make their own ice cream. It's nice to see they're still there. Food is good, service is slow but then they cook the food when you order. I had a good waitress, she knew my mother and seated us where my mother wanted to be seated - my mother has a walker. Thank you for keeping this place open.
If I could leave zero stars, I would. Arrived at this establishment as a party box 5 adults & my 2 year old son who has multiple disabilities, including epilepsy, and is in a wheelchair for his own safety. This restaurant has booths in the front room as well as a separate area with traditional tables seating 20+ people. We were told we could squeeze our party into "one of the larger booths", however, there was a support bar preventing the wheelchair from being able to go under it. We asked if we could sit at one of the tables in the other room & were told "that room is reserved". I reiterated that my son could not sit at the table because of the support & they were VERY rude & said "I don't know what to tell you. The room is reserved for the church ladies, this is all we have." I don't know if they are aware of this or not, but they are required by law to accommodate people with disabilities & they refused-not to mention, I guarantee that if they had explained to "the church ladies" that they had to move them to accommodate a 2 year old boy with disabilities, they wouldn't have had a problem with it! Do not give these rude people your business!
Good home cooked food, really good prices
Servers were rude, ice cream was terrible, place was filled with smoke
Cook/ owner was terrible. Most places if they are out of ingredients they ask the customer about a substitute but not here he adds what he wants even if a customer has a food allergy then refuses to remake a different omelette while hollering this so the whole restaurant hears. A total rude jerk, will not be going back!
Retro dinner, well-prepared comfort food, awesome I've cream. What's not to love?
Food was as expected for a diner. Kind of dirty.
What a great place for breakfast and lunch..plus my mom loves this place.
Food not good
This place has been around for years and its starting to show. I haven't eatin here for quite a few years. Food was ok. I dont think they use fresh ingredients. But staff was very friendly. She didn't seem very knowledgeable about the menu though. The place is very dated and is in desperate need of a face lift. Most of the customers were over 60 years old. Noy sure we would go back anytime soon.
I'm dairy free, gluten free, and won't eat meat if I don't know where it comes from. My only option is the salad bar, and it sucks! The vegetables are soaking in water, which makes them disgustingly moist, and the only dairy-free dressing looked like algae. The place is in need of a makeover: the salad bar is held together with duct tape, the ceiling is burned and torn, and there's this wire that hangs low--nearly clotheslines me every time. The owner seems like a real jerk: he yells at his staff, and I feel bad, because the wait staff are so hard-working and kind.
Inexpensive old style diner food.
Food was good.service was a little slow.
Love the food and the friendly staff
This was the best restraunt i never went to so glad i can say i didnt
I use to love this place as a kid. Everyone wanted Sewards ice cream in the summer. My great grandfather and his friends sat at the stools for many years every single morning. Today... horrible service and super understaffed. Then I …
Excellent omelette
This place used to be the best place to eat in Rutland. Now, it kind of sucks. The food quality has gone downhill fast. The ice cream is still great, though. But, not much else.
We decided to go for a nice motorcycle ride from NY to VT for the day. We headed into Rutland at around 1 and decided to try this restaurant. WORSE MISTAKE EVER! We had a group of 5 of us. The waitress took our drink orders at the same time. 2 of us got our drinks within a couple mins while 3 of us waited 15 for ours. She then took our food orders at the same time and sure enough 2 of us got our orders promptly while 3 of us had to wait 20 for ours. Not to mention she got one of our orders wrong. The service was horrible, the food had no flavor, bathrooms were a wreck. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. Very, very, very disappointed.
Coffee cups were caked with grime could not drink it had to switched to water, breakfast was good.
Good ice cream with a massive selection of flavors.
Pretty good food and service. Great ice cream on a summer day or any day.
Great food....A little disappointed in the price increases. However, it is still more reasonable than 99 or Apple Bee's for a family of 4... Nancy and Kelly make the trip worth while before 2pm shift change.. . They really appreciate and take care of their customers....
I like this place - I am a regular and it is like my second family. The food is average however the waitresses are friendly and I like that.
Place is absolutely horrible eggs like rubber and home fries cold not cooked cold toast not happy
Food is good, prices could be lower and expect to be there at least an hour
waitress is discriminating I'm disabled & waited for 15 minutes only to have her serve others that come in after me I talked to manager, they dont care as I was told so I left, I shoudl have filed a discrimination suit with the state avoid at all costs food is really not that great either, but a step up from McD's old decor & surprised it stays open & in business
Great cheeseburgers and amazing pies!
Don't eat there! My wife and I went in to order out at 8:30 pm...the waitress Linda was very kind, but the cook (who turned out later to be Mr. Seward the owner!) looked agitated that he had to cook a scallop dinner so late and was slamming things around, he even put his bare hands in the fries to place in the fryulator The scallops and fries were melted into the styrofoam and the coleslaw was rancid! Worst food ever, we didn't eat it and the dog even turned his nose away
Great ol' fashion family restaurant
Pies are good food is so, so.
Love coming here with the family. Diners are always nice
Food was good...ice cream was excellent! Nicole our waitress was great!!
The ladies who served us were fantastic! And the sandwiches were great. Moist grilled chicken, crispy bacon, perfectly toasted buns and bread. The side salad was well stocked and served with a tasty dressing. Pickles accompanying each plate. I was impressed with the other plates I saw coming out as well. It was pre-noon, not too crowded, but many folks were coming and going while I worked at the table after eating. No wifi, but good LTE signal even inside. For SO many reasons (dessert being a big one) we'll be coming back - frequently!!!
Like the old days. Friendly people good food. Like ma's home cooked meals.
We went here easter dinner this year . food was horrible , no taste and some of the food was cold. There was 8 of us and we all said mcdonalds would have been better then the food we had. We couldn't finish our meals it was so bad.
Average cheap
This place is falling apart and could use Gordon Ramsey's help
Always good. Not for u if u r looking for upscale eatery. Local icon.
Excellent food!!!!
The ice cream window -- a summer tradition.
Canned chicken, canned peas, frozen fish. Had I known this was going to be food I could buy at my local price chopper and cook it (better) myself at home, I would have done that. Worst meal since grade school lunch.
Decent meal
The service and food was great.
Wow, this place needs repair. I remember going here 25 years ago when I was growing up, and it was a respectable, nice place to go. Now, the years show. The sign is gone, the ceiling tiles are black, and I decided not to order food. The …
Alright!
Good food and services.
Excel
Yummy beer batter
Always come here for ice cream when on vacation.
I ate a delicious egg sandwich here before hitting the slopes at Killington. It seemed difficult to find a place open early enough, but my friend and I were very pleased with what we found. Our service was very friendly. She told us that omelettes weren't being served, but that was fine because I wanted a sandwich anyway. I wish I remember the servers name, but her hospitality was a great way to start the day. I was also able to buy some maple syrup from the gift shop!
No pretense here. The entire property, building and menu are old and could use some updating, the food is bland but dependable. Mac and Cheese is very good, as is the coleslaw with a hint of horseradish. The fried chicken and fried veal are indistinguishable and no flavor other than crunchy coating. Texture is rubbery and dry. Service is adequate. Good ice cream. Friendly, aged neighborhood reguLars. Comfortable. Not gourmet.
Not bad. I mean. Not great either. The burger was ok. My gf got the grilled cheese and I’m not sure if they forgot the cheese or just had it sliced as paper thin as the cheese on my burger. You can see through the cheese is what I’m saying. She loved her soup. I think it was chicken something. She eats so much soup I mistake her for an old man a lot. But it wasn’t bad. I guess when your sign is literally falling off the building you have to pinch pennies where ever you can. Be careful in the “gift shop”. There are no gifts. All of the ice cream is empty. And the egg nog was expired by a month. It WAS March so I didn’t want egg nog, but if you’re gonna have a dairy based product you should check the date. My date checked and saw that it was expired. We high tailed it out of there and have a wonderfully funny story after the stomach pains subside.
Wonderful
I have never had such poor service at a restaurant in my entire life! I travel back and forth from NewYork to Vermont, and while in Vermont decided to meet a family member there for lunch. The food was cold and undercooked. As if that wasn't enough the waitress was pouring coffee that was TOO HOT, the pot was So hot it busted open leaving burns on my elderly mother.. Who was taken to the hospital where she was treated with 2nd and 3rd degree burns! I have not nore will I ever return to this establishment! (I am only putting one star because no stars is not a option!)
This place reminds of a restaurant I grew up with called Bergsons. It great sandwiches and item like fish and chips. I it like mom makes. You finish with a good old fashion hot fudge Sunday at a reasonable price
The place remind's me of the forties which I absolutely love, and the waitress was incredibly kind. The food was also amazing and still tastes good after you bring it home and reheat it. Absolutely love this place and I would love to work there.
Typical family restaurant, friendly staff and good prices
OK Food, service seemed to be ok. Rather dated, seems to be popular with the older crowd, i think i was 1 of 2 people under 40 there
I love this place it is AWESOME!!!!
Good diner style food, not pretending to be anything other than good cheap reliable food. Fast service
If you are a local, you will know this place and love it; if you are expecting anything special, you're in the wrong place. The iced cream is good (long lines in the spring & summer), the gift shop has typical Vermont merchandise and the food is fair.
Small town cooking and dining.
Good
If I had the choice to cure cancer or close this restaurant I wouldn't even think twice about shutting this place down. My autistic son was treated terribly and they wouldn't help accommodate with his needs. I almost got in a fight with the owner and the atmosphere was horrible. Everyone in their was a sweaty biker in a leather jacket and I felt like they wouldn't stop staring at me the whole time. NEVER GO HERE!
They have a lot of good meals they serve and good service to
I eat here for the nostalgia of what Seward's used to be. I loved it back in the day when the restaurant was always full, the ice cream windows were lined up with customers and times were simpler. Today the food is okay, the ice cream is still tasty but the restaurant is never busy.
Not real clean
Seward's is simple, unpretentious, and cheap. I appreciate being able to eat without being overwhelmed by obnoxious decor and TV screens everywhere, and I don't have to absorb the cost of their latest remodel by paying $11 for a turkey sandwich like most of the hipster joints around. The menu is not going to blow your mind, so don't expect haute cuisine - just tasty comfort food. Waitresses act like they wanted to retire 20 years ago, so I take off a star for that.
Convenient location, long established, restaurant.
If you want diner food, this is the place to go. They have awesome beer-battered fries and giant hotdogs. The servers aren't the most attentive, so if you need a refill on your drink be sure to ask when they bring the food to you, cause it's likely you won't see them again until they bring your check.
Home cooked food prices are good
We are visiting Rutland. Always our choice for breakfast. Good home cooking. Awesome service. My family s fav place.
Delicious split pea soup!
Very old inside and slow service.
Service sucks and the food is not worth the wait! I do like the ice cream cakes.
Decent food, a little slow this morning.
Food very plain. Place needs remodeling. Decor appears to be from 1970s. Also temperature in dining room seemed to be in the low 60s or high 50s when it was about 25 outside. Nothing enjoyable about the experience.
My husband, son and I recently ate here and our experience was awful. The waitress should retire seriously. She wasn't very friendly. She had one speed.....slow and she obviously can't tell when food is over cooked. We ordered mozz. Sticks …
Poor service, everything was frozen. No one ate what we ordered... there went $66 into the trash
A/C was broken.
Its okay for food ice cream is really good
An adequate meal while traveling.
