This Restaurant is classified in the category of Family restaurant.
Very cute place. Staff was so friendly. Food was great. Prices in the gift shop were much cheaper than other places we shopped. Highly recommend this place for breakfast.
Excellent breakfast. Buck Wheat pancakes and real Vermont maple syrup. Yum.
Pancakes are incredible. Great atmosphere
Great place, great food, great service.
Amazing, best blueberry pancakes I have EVER had and the maple syrup was to DIE for. Fast and very friendly service, super quaint atmosphere, large array of maple products and gifts. Visiting this place is necessary for anyone who wants an authentic Vermont experience. Definitely going to come back here.
Best GF pancakes I ever had!! Not sure if it's the maple syrup that they do there, an you can see how it is done, or the pancakes itself. The place it's really nice. I'm sure I will go again
Very good food (expect large portions so bring your appetite), good prices, and great service
Great food, excellent service! But it doesn't stop there. This place has history and a gift shop filled with great stuff. This is a destination whether your local or out of town. Expect to leave Full and Happy. A real Vermont gem!
I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I have been going here since I was a child and I was never disappointed. Staff is so nice. And food is absolutely delicious!! The wait for you’re food is so much quicker then expected (as most restaurants take forever to bring the food). There hot chocalate is also the best and there maple syrup to!!
Sugar and Spice is one of our favorites. The food is simple but good. The owners are great! Very community minded. A business you can feel good about supporting.
Seriously cool place. Basement is a shop with shirts, mugs, and syrup. Middle and top floor are a restaurant with some killer breakfast. Went twice and both meals were great. Only complaint was it was a little cramped. Everything else was fantastic.
Delicious food and great service. Huge servings for breakfast. Very busy but worth the wait.
It's an adorable atmosphere with quick and kind service. We especially love the gluten free pancakes and hot cocoa!
We go here once a year for breakfast following the Killington Spartan Race. We look forward to our visit every year.
Best diner around! The food is delicious and the wait staff are friendly. Home made maple syrup tops off the best pancakes! We went back a 2nd day.
Cinnamon maple pancakes were phenomenal. Very rustic and charming. Nice gift shop. Would return for sure.
We come here every time we are in Vermont. Very good breakfast food with reasonable prices. They have a really cool gift shop as well. Would 100% recommend!
This place is great! Quick affordable food. Friendly service. We had a delicious breakfast. We will be back again!
Quaint & rustic pancake restaurant on route 4 in Mendon-Rutland. Serves delicious pancakes (try their pumpkin pancakes- they are the best), eggs, home fries & other breakfast fare. The food is always good, the service is excellent and the ambience is fantastic. They also carry a very large selection of gift items and souvenirs like T-shirt’s, Vermont coffee mugs and much more. This place is a must go to whenever I am in Vermont,
Been driving by for many years and finally stopped in. The food was really good! Totally surprised with the whole experience, in a good way. Pumpkin pancakes on the regular menu! My GF was really happy about that... The egg sammy with Taylor ham was really good too. Coffee was good and they have Sweet n low. Yeah, plenty of gifts and fun things to buy for snacks on your drive after being on the mountain. I will certainly stop in again! Well worth it. I loved that the mgr walked around and asked all tables if everything was ok. Free WiFi too. :) Friendly staff. You should visit and eat.
Best breakfast in the Killington area
Always a great place for breakfast!! I used to come semi frequently when I lived in the area, now i make a point to stop here when I'm visiting.
Fast, friendly service. Generous portions.
I'm warning you for your own safety about the horse and carrage legend. If you were unaware the place was founded by a civil war hero and his horse. They both died and there graves are the large rocks to the left of the restaurant. Do not be inside there past 7 o'clock or your basically a gonner. I have been there several times and going down to the gift shop you can sometimes hear hooves and the faight noise of a horse breathing. They also dont open there windows so when you feel a cool breeze you know what that is. Oh and by the way the pancakes were cold.
Always great food. Love the fact that they charge extra for non-maple syrup.
We came the morning after our wedding and we were so grateful that they welcomed us and served us everything was excellent as always! Thank you so much!!
Great food, great service, always a pleasure to come in. I recommend the pumpkin pancakes!
Good food, but the experience left a bad taste in our mouths. I must admit the food and gift shop here are good. However, the owner seems to have no self awarness when it comes to basic social skills. Most of the patrons there were tourist, and the stop is very much geared toward the tourist population. However, upon our arrival, when taking our dogs for a stretch and a bit of relief, the owner came out, and asked if we needed a bag. We were clearly putting the dogs back in the trailer. So, she simply inferred our pooches had deficated, and that we were too rude to clean it up of our own accord. After, telling her they had only urinated (we had our own potty bags), we tried to shake the exchange to enjoy a nice lunch. While the food was good, the waitress was not. She not only lacked the kind of regional charm one would hope to find in such a place, but was not attentive, much less friendly. The gift shop and restaurant were full of regional charm, but they really missed a God-viven oportunity for enjoying or viewing the scenery. There a few windows (and the ones there are small) to take in the view, much less light. There is a deck out back, which most of the year it is too chilly to utilize. Finally, paying for our meals and purchases, the owner asked us if we were tipping the waitress. When I was clearly taken aback by the question. She said she liked to type the tip amount in on the receipt instead of allowing the cutomers to write in their own, in order to save paper. This explanation made no sense, since she simply showed us where she typed it on the receipt, then had us sign it, while ripping off our copy, and handing it to us. There were still two receipt slips, just like everywhere else one is able to fill in their own tip amounts. We left with a few local souvenirs, nice meals,, served poorly, and a bad taste in our mouth for the entire experience.
I was introduced to this place while attending Castleton by my ski loving friends. It will always be my go to breakfast when I’m the area- best pancakes, atmosphere and experience. *Insider tip- check out what the animals are eating for breakfast at the picnic table before heading in- they never steer you wrong!
Loved the buttermilk pancakes. Great cure for any hangover
We discovered this place a few years ago when taking the scenic route back home from Lake George. We’ve had just about everything and not a single dish has been a disappointment. In addition to that, the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is homey.
Wonderful breakfasts!
Best "soft" omelette ever! Fabulous homefries, burger, English muffin. Neighbors loved the oatmeal and sugar&spice pancakes. Excellent service, quick food, quaint comfy friendly atmosphere. Totally recommend this place
Orientation is toward skiers and tourists, but good for locals too, if you are not in earshot of a cellphone user who won't put it down. Food is terrific with real maple syrup. Main entrance has stairs, but I hear you can enter without stairs from the rear. However, rest rooms are one flight down.
Quaint place. Good food
Heard a lot about this place, but I wasn't that impressed. The pancakes were good, not great. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Great location and quintessential Vermont dining experience. Service and food is very good too!
Stopped in for lunch but ordered all day breakfast. The potatoes were great. I also got a bunch of reasonably priced souvenirs at the gift shop, and waters to bring back to our hotel room. The service was friendly and speedy. I would recommend this place for sure.
Breakfast was amazing! The staff was so nice and attentive. I'm looking forward to going back and exploring the gift shop.
Delicious food and wonderful decor! Can't wait to go back!
Best place for breakfast, and our waitress Barbara was spectacular
Top notch! Pancakes and REAL VERMONT MAPLE SYRUP!!!!! All you need!!!
I have been going to this place almost every year for the last 20 years. T While it has been slowly morphing into a tourist trap over the last 20 years, the food quality has remained excellent. Their pancakes are the best I've ever had. I try to stop by for breakfast any time I'm in the area. Be warned, the waits can be lengthy, especially if you have a large party. If you're by yourself or just a couple, the waits can be as little as 10 minutes, even at the height of the rush. In previous years, they would make maple syrup right in the restaurant, while you were eating. I have not seen them operate that equipment in quite some time. I may simply go too early in the season to see it. It is located in the basement, which also doubles as the "gift shop". Despite this, they still sell locally made maple syrup and associated sweet goodies. All in all, I would still say this is a must-stop if you are in the area at breakfast time.
Great food and awesome service.
Excellent service, staff and food. Always an enjoyable experience
The shopkeepers (I forgot your names, I'm sorry!) that were working on Thursday 5/9 were so helpful! They answered some of my questions about different products, and even helped my friend and I bag up a total of 550(!) maple candies! Thanks gals!
Wonderful service and pumpkin pancakes but disappointed not real butter. That would have made it a 5 star
The BEST pancakes in VT! Expect to wait for a table because this place is so popular, but it's worth the wait! Food is delicious! They make the maple sugar themselves.
Great atmosphere, food, and service. Place is always filled with locals and visitors. Omelets are so tasty.
This place is awesome. We are from Philadelphia area up for the weekend for the slopes and we stopped here. Food is great, the people are friendly and it’s an awesome atmosphere. A must stop for anyone hitting killington.
Good pancakes, rustic and historic atmosphere, helpful staff.
Fantastic breakfast, in a really cool place.
One of the best breakfasts that I have ever had. I cannot go to the Killington area without making a stop here. Absolutely perfect!!!
Like the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time like all the food tasted so good
Located in an old sugaring barn, the place has some really neat atmosphere and feels very "Vermont". The staff is very friendly as well. The food though is just okay.
Love this place and the owners. Vermont breakfast at its best.
Best breakfast around! It's fast and cozy too-the hot chocolate is not to be missed!
Great food! Best service and staff around!
Very good food and very fast service
This is a very, very high quality place to eat. The breakfast food is amazing. The chocolate chip pancakes are the best, I recommend the pancakes. Everything in general is great. It can be crowded at times, but the food is well worth it. Overall, very good place to eat.
Had a great post-Easter breakfast with family. There is also a cute gift shop downstairs with all sorts of Vermont knick knacks.
I have visited here several times and consistently been impressed. Last visit, the owner was greeting regulars with hugs and asking after their family. As a gesture of good will, the owner gave my niece a Christmas present of a really cute stuffed animal. Also, they charge more for fake syrup...which is awesome. The variety of food is wonderful. They offer many different variations of pancakes, including lots of fancy fruit and ice cream creations. Downstairs is a great gift store where they sell Vermont merchandise (shirts, stuffed moose, trains...). Upstairs, you can get a variety of sizes of maple syrup at a quite reasonable price. Often, they let you sample any of the varieties. Go for the experience, service, maple syrup and the food.
What's not to love here?! Phenomenal atmosphere, delicious home cooked food, exceptional gift store selections.
Cozy and always great food
The service was great .The pancakes are so fluffy. Great coffee.
Great pancakes and bacon but let's talk about the crazy tasty maple syrup gold. Next time I am in VT I'll be back.
The best breakfast ive ever had. No really. The best. Sugar and spice pancakes were mind blowing. Wonder if they deliver to nyc...
Was up in the area visiting family they reccomended Sugar and spice I cane here with my girlfriend. Everything was very good from the pancakes to the biscuits and gravy they also have a cute little gift shop in the downstairs. Service was quick and attentive
Was planning on stopping here for some gifts and knick-knacks while at Killington but with a power outage on the mountain we came down here for breakfast too. For a couple people from Jersey it could be likened to a good diner breakfast. The maple sugar in the pancakes was a nice touch. Good family atmosphere and decent food make it worth a look.
The best pancakes we've ever had! Cozy and historic, but plenty of seating. Great place to get a taste of Vermont and authentic maple syrup!
Must go! So delicious
Great food along with fantastic service. Very friendly staff that makes you feel welcome.
They offer some very dark grades of syrup which puts them on the top of my list. Great pricing on gallons as well.
Stop in every year on our way home to NJ. Best breakfast anywhere
Diner style restaurant and a gift shop. Family friendly. It's a cozy little place with friendly staff. We stop here, every time we are in Vermont, before we start our trek home. Awesome breakfast! Definitely a must on our list anytime we are in the area!
This place is extremely unique. It has amasing breakfast and even makes its own maple syrup on site in the spring. Prices are reasonable as well.
Thinks that there is a medium at the entrance. is not one
Great food and very friendly, welcoming people.
Friendy service lovely place to dine eat and enjoy great food omg the food here is all over freash not boxed all out fresh food eggs from real chickens bread from bakery.
Vermont diner experience 101. Sausage and biscuit was good, pancakes were spectacular (you can specify your grade of make syrup!!).
Great place, friendly staff, authentic rustic cabin setting. The full Vermont experience. You can watch them make their own maple syrup on site and taste samples, then order some pancakes and drown them in it. The eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy were also delicious. Pretty inexpensiveensive as well. I'll go back every time I'm in the area.
Amazingly cool place with great food.
At first I thought this was a tourist trap. And while it sort of was, it did have a lot of genuine parts like a functioning maple syrup production system and home made jams. Breakfast was good and our waitress was very nice. She ran our table like an oiled machine but was really good about it. Wait was long, but there are some gift shop areas that you can wander through to occupy the time. Would recommend.
Great atmosphere great people fresh ingredients.
The best pancakes in the world!
I'm been on vacation for 6 of 12 days. This is by far the best place I have eaten breakfast since leaving Ms. Place looks good and staff are second to none.
Love the hash browns, servings are good sized, prices reasonable.
Food is worth an 8 hour trip. We came up from Maryland for the weekend. This place is one of the only places that is a must when visiting the rutland/ killington area. Chef Ian was awesome
Greeted by owner upon entering and seated in a timely manner. Food is always great!
Best place to eat b breakfast
This is a great place to go for a tasty breakfast. The coffee is excellent. Our party had waffles, pumpkin spice pancakes and eggs with hash. Everything was cooked perfectly I especially liked the hash done nice and crispy. The pumpkin spice pancakes were said to be the best ever. Recommended highly by all in our party.
Prepare for perfection! An old syrup mill that serves the BEST breakfast around! Definitely try the country potatoes... you'll smack your mama! Not mention their maple syrup and candies. If you know the local secret, then call. The wait here is worth the meal! After, bop down to the Longtrail for a little exercise after those calories!
Awesome place! Great food and great service. Just wish they had another bathroom!
Awesome breakfast pancakes were delicious, coffee is bottomless and the service and gift shop is awesome! A piece of Vermont history as well! Got to pay respect to a real war horse! "Old John"!
Good, family friendly restaurant / general store between Rutland and Killington. They sell maple syrup products, shirts, candies and other touristie stuff. Food is pretty good here as well.
one of the best breakfast places out there!
Great food and a great service
This was one of the best breakfasts I had during our vacation. Makes me want to stay.
Love this place, a rustic country style breakfast bar, huge portions, great recipes, and a gift shop
Food was delicious, service was awesome atmosphere was awesome!!
I visited from out of town based on the reviews and I was not let down. The pancakes were amazing and the little gift store had a lot of choices.
Pretty good food, food came out fast.
Great little restaurant!
Wonderful breakfast joint with amazing cooking and fresh maple syrup. Perfect for any breakfast lover.
One of the tourist spots to go to if you are in the area, so be ready for crowds; but you should try to go atleast once. Has home made maple syrup that can't be beat for miles, but with prices to match. A great breakfast location if you can get a seat.
Fast friendly service, great food.
This is a must stop for breakfast if you are in the pico or Killington area. The best breakfast ever. I have been coming here over 25 years.
Great place for VT stuff!
Nice place, a must stop if in the area. Breakfast is the best with fresh ingredients and natural maple syrup. Plenty of indigenous items for the pallet and to wear. Pancakes superb and omelet was delicious. Great New England hospitality.
It was a very pleasant surprise the food was great and the wait staff was very nice and pleasant I would recommend this place too anyone who is looking for Vermont maple syrup it comes with the meals it's not extra like in other restaurants
Omg in all my yrs in Vt i had never been there and I think I may have been missing out on some of the best priced, biggest portioned, amazing food, and friendliest staff ever!! Love this place and I'm definitely making it my regular spot from here on out!! I highly recommend trying this place... you'll be happy you did!!
One of the best breakfast places I have been to. If you are in the area you have to try it. They can get pretty busy but it is well worth the wait.
The place itself is worth checking out...the store, the log building. There is a war horse buried on the grounds, too. They have amazing pancakes! Pumpkin are my personal favorite.
Great breakfast!
On of the best places I've ever ate breakfast at in my lifetime. Cannot beat the overall ambiance. You'll have to take a ride & experience it on your own. True 5 stars.
Good food. Maple evaporater right in the building is really cool to look at.
One of the best breakfast places I've been to. The ambience is rustic, and definitely very Vermont-y. Their pancakes, and walnut sprinkled waffles are the best! The topping of their homemade maple syrup is just the icing on the cake. Apart from that, another nice thing to try here is the classic french toast! The souvenir collection is also authentic making your time their worthwhile. The crew are the sweetest as well. Definitely worth a visit, and I would go back!
Delicious breakfast with amazing old time atmosphere!
Great restaurant, are family goes here every year. Delicious food, real maple syrup, pumpkin pancakes. Eat inside or on the deck out side. Early spring the resturant makes their own maple syrup in the bottom floor where there is also a country store, where you can pick up little things for the fam. I only gave it 4 stars because some times there so busy you have to wait for seating.. But it's worth it.
Breakfast here included generous portions (note to self, share an omelet!), real maple syrup, friendly service, and the chance to browse the shop. Five people, one hour for ordering, service, and eating.
Great source for fresh maple syrup
Second day here... We keep coming back - Says it all! Had the maple flavored and apple sausage omelet, very tasty.
Best breakfast restaurant in New England. The experience, the food, atmosphere, and unlimited maple syrup makes this place worth the hour plus drive for us. Too bad we don't have one in the Keene, NH area. It would do so well there.
Food was awesome at always, but service was very slow. If you go when it's busy expect slow service and long wait times
Great local breakfast restaurant with local flair on the walls and great omelets
This is a great place for breakfast especially if you want some Vermont maple syrup and pancakes!
Awesome. We've been coming here for over 30 years. Service is great. Owners are wonderful folks
Super comforting atmosphere complete with a very Vermonty gift shop. The space is timber framed, VERY rustic, and has plenty of family lore to keep you busy while you wait for food. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with my egg breakfast. Eggs were so crispy I couldn't cut them. I asked for sunny side up. Home fries had no flavor and were also very overcooked. Their service was decent, nothing exceptional. Check it out! Prices are fair. Maybe you'll get a better chef than we did.
Wow! If you're in the area, don't pass this place up for breakfast! Great food, great service, and a great gift shop. Enjoy!
If you like breakfast, this is THE spot for you. I'm not a big breakfast person, but this place is so good that I am giving it five stars. The Sugar and Spice pancakes and the pumpkin pancakes are truly special. Plenty of savory breakfast options as well including eggs, bacon, soups, and sandwiches. I enjoyed a grilled cheese because all of the ingredients tasted super fresh and again, I'm not that into breakfast. Bring cash and enjoy the extensive gift shop after you eat.
Good food, fast, friendly service, cozy atmosphere, nice giftshop. If you order hot tea, it comes out tepid- warm half of the time
Fantastic hot chocolate, and wonderful ambiance.
Walt and his family do an awesome job !!!! Very fast very friendly. The Vermont sugar house atmosphere is great !!
I cannot say enough about this place! the owners meet you when you walk in... everyone is friendly ( except the cashier she ruins it for you on the way out the door ) the food is amazing the sugar spice pancakes melt in yourmouth.... everything my family had we loved ....we also bought a gallon of syrup to bring home and enjoy.... delicious you must go! you will thank me!
Love breakfast here but they have to unitive the air-conditioning for the hear waves.
This restaurant is an absolute must visit on every ski trip to the area! The food is delivered fast and well prepared. The food is delicious and the service is awesome. I have never had a bad meal or a bad interaction with any of the staff. I highly recommend this great restaurant.
Always stop here when in Vermont. The Sugar and Spice pancakes are delicious. The Mendon Miller is a great as well.
Always a great place to go. Breakfast is great and the lunch specials are good too. Not far from Rutland. Busy most of the time but the service is generally pretty quick. Highly recommend this place.
Wonderful atmosphere, wait staff, diverse menu, and meal. The fruit plate with cottage cheese is great, added rye toast and green tea for an excellent breakfast. Missed Walt and Lynn they were on vacation, they are terific hosts.
This place actually charges you extra if you ask for something "other than" real maple syrup. This fine old sugarhouse has great atmosphere and serves up a top notch "diner breakfast" sure to please everyone. Service is friendly and prompt. I highly recommend it.
A bit expensive for breakfast but the portions were huge and I had enough left over for lunch and dinner later from a single 4 pancake order. My kids loved the food and my son said it was the best French toast he had ever had.
Quaint gift shop full of maple goodies. Restaurant served up some tasty food .
Great food. The syrup is obviously awesome. The blueberries waffles were the best .Definitely order one for every 2-3people at the table .The service was fabulous. Waitress was the best waitress ive had.
Best breakfast! We come here every time we come to VT. Well worth the wait. Staff very friendly. Owners very hands on making sure you're happy and satisfied
You simply must experience...
Great food, fast, cozy atmosphere
Delicious local spot! Great food, the staff is extremely friendly and nice. Loved the store & that you could but maple ANYTHING. There wasnt much cellphone service but if you're nice you'll get the wifi password
A friend was visiting from out-of-state, so I suggested we eat breakfast at Maple Sugar & Vermont Spice. The food is always good, portions are generous, and there's a ramp at the back for people with limited mobility. The staff were very accommodating, and quite helpful. Our pancakes came with real butter and a generous supply of real maple syrup. My friend was happy to snap photos, as I suspect she's never eaten breakfast in a working sugar house. For people wanting to add to their collection of Vermont swag, there's plenty available here. If you forget something, it can be purchased from their online website. As one would suspect, they have maple products galore. What this visit made me realize is that I don't eat here often enough!
Long wait time for a table (normal I guess). Hash tasted like it was canned and was half cold half warm (not hot). Hashbrowns/home fries were half cooked. Omelette was basic, as was the coffee. Server was cute, he had fantastic eyes and was super nice.
Top class Vermont-style breakfast spot, a cozy place to grab a bite on the morning.
family friendly diner. wasnt in vermont long but there wasnt too much going on. this place struck me as a really well-run family friendly local favorite, that lured in lots of tourists. good food. i learned that real maple syrup is a lot sweeter than i thought
Nice and friendly environment
We absolutely loved this place. Great locally sourced products. Our apple, bacon, cheddar, sandwiches were delicious. The service was courteous and prompt. We will be back the next time we are in the area
I go here at least once a week in the winter when I'm living in Vermont and it'll never get old. The atmosphere is like a warm cabin in the woods and the food is five star quality!
Looking for a variety of delicious pancakes... look no further. I ordered maple pancakes w walnuts. And they tap their own tress tmake home grown maple syrup.
Really neat experience out in Vermont just before headed back to Pennsylvania. The staff was super nice and the food was pleasantly good. They have a several spots where you could sample their treats such as maple syrup or jams. Didn't give it a five star because the wait was rather long and they really didn't have a good waiting area other than outside or hovering over other folks.
Rustic in the best way possible. You’ll definitely feel good about being here for breakfast or lunch. Great pancakes.
Great food and keeping it's rustic look of Vermont nice atmosphere
