REVIEWS OF Juniper Bar and Restaurant IN Vermont

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge that our server Mackenzi was great. The food, however, was substandard at best. The drinks were lacking and overpriced. The lack of salt and pepper on the tables eludes that the food is perfect but is a cocky misrepresentation. We first started with the pea and beet toast which was under salted, which should have been our first sign, but with so many good reviews, we thought we should continue our meal. My wife ordered the rabbit pot pie and I ordered the short ribs. One of my ribs had bone while the other did not, the polenta was served cold, and the "caramelized cauliflower" should been listed as sauteed. My wife's dish was underwhelming, overly creamy, a premade pastry crust, and chewy rabbit. It was in desperate need of fresh components like carrots, peas, etc. Our server gladly replaced the meal with another my wife had been eyeing - pumpkin risotto. We received it quickly and it was even more underwhelming than the first. The frisee salad was brown and had rotten pieces in it, under salted, the poached duck egg was completely over cooked, and the risotto was slightly underdone. We ate what we could and paid up without looking at dessert. Overall, good service but terrible food. We will not be back.

As the name might suggest the drinks came out on top here. Cocktails were creative and tasty, and the wine list had lots of interesting selections, including some by the glass, and there are plenty of great beers and a huge whisky selection. The menu had plenty of interesting options, but our choices did not quite live up to expectations. For example, the roll for the roast beef sandwich was average at best, which surprised me since I saw Red Hen bread (which is great) listed on another item. My rating would be 5 for the drinks and 4 for the food, but I will round it up based on the atmosphere and service, which was excellent.

Nice bar, good beer and cocktail selection. The night we went a live band was playing in the lobby next to us. Great atmosphere and service

Good food & service. Seating a little tight however.

Kitchen under renovation when I was there so limited selection available. The chili came out luke warm and I had to send it back to get reheated.

We had to wait 45 minutes to get a table. First, they told us that we could get coffee or a drink at the bar but the barmaid didn't look at us when we try to order something. The food was not super good. And it was expensive for the quantity.

Went after a Lyric meeting at the Flynn for Tech Sunday. Had a discount coupon from Burlington Edible History Tour I had taken in the summer. Sat at the bar and bartender, Maggie, was friendly & attentive. Had light & fluffy blueberry pancakes! Local granola, yogurt and fresh berries. Tea & OJ, too. Fantastic! They do Sunday Brunch & Bloody Mary Bar. Must try!

Had the Eggs Benedict and got their house made hot sauce on the side... best sauce I've ever had! Asked if they could sell it to me because I loved it so much, unfortunately not for sale. The Benedict was amazing and cooked perfectly.

Great atmosphere and staff. I order the steak cooked medium and it was perfection. I'm doing keto and the staff was very willing to swap out items for me. If you are in Burlington, stop here and have a great meal!!

Outdoor seating is great, enjoyed the Barr Hill Gin smoothies in August (you must get in on this next year)! Perhaps grab a bite before you get there as their menu is somewhat limited and high-end (great for some crowds). We had $18 burgers, which were average, and "medium" was not consistent between us. Looks to be an outstanding bar and an ok place to eat if you're sticking close to the hotel and not venturing out into the city. B+

This is a nice place to come for a quiet lunch that's not too heavy, which is perfect if you've been exploring and walking around church street, the waterfront, or anything else Burlington has to offer. The food is light, clean, simple, and fresh and the price is fair for what you get. It's located on the ground level of Hotel Vermont, making it very accessible. I would recommend it if you're in the area looking for lunch, but I wouldn't make a special trip in just to eat there.

Nikki Noble

Crispy garlic aioli fries (I mean the good crispy that you always want) and a perfectly cooked burger topped with a creamy duck egg.... Pretty damn delicious

Daniel Morse

Ordered room service for breakfast. Super expensive, but that’s typical. Pancakes , and a pastry. Both were high quality . But the room service is lacking. Menu is gigantic, it would be easier to have a card to fill out and place on the door. Example: 2 options to order; sweet or savory. Coffee, juice, yogurt, and pasties. Or eggs, sausage etc. we order coffee and juice with our breakfast , which wasn’t on the menu for some reason. It came uncovered and spilt. Only one cup of each for 2 people? No cream or sugar. And one set of silverware. As for the bar, good service, but $14 for a glass of California wine? Wow.

You know when a breakfast is just a perfect breakfast? Yeah, this place hit that mark! I got poached duck eggs with the hemp seed patty, home fries, and gluten-free toast and it was lovely. My friend got the blueberry pancakes and said they were divine. Our server was attentive and friendly. Overall, great service and great food.

Lived up to promise of great cocktails. Very busy at happy hour. Great sunset location with outdoor seating. Friendly service. Excellent selection.

Fantastic food and service with a lovely atmosphere that felt both relaxed and refined. A more expensive night out perhaps, but worth it for the locally resourced food and drink prepared in a mouth watering way. (Do be advised, it's jazz night on Wednesdays so the lounge/bar area may become crowded).

We expected this place to be great, and we still ended up surprised with how good everything was. First, the appetizers - we had the carrots with the fava bean hummus and the peat toast. I am not exaggerating when I say this place approaches blue hill levels of veggie prepararion sophistication. The gnocchi were out of this world. And the Beer list was so expertly curated - every beer was rated over 4 on untapped. Overall, amazing!

Stayed for one night at hotel Vermont and had dinner here. The roasted carrots with pistachio hummus was Devine and the tacos really really good. Not to mention the cocktails!

I have stayed in the Hotel Vermont a few times now but wanted to just write another review of this truly amazing restaurant. I always enjoy my time here and use the opportunity to try some new food, some interesting local ingredients and their combinations as well as a great selection of different beers and/or local specialities. I haven't been disappointed and the one item I would like to highlight here is the fact that the staff are consistently good, helpful and kind.

Lovely environment, warm, welcoming service. Alas, my chilaquiles left something to be desired. The green salsa was a bit sweet and the eggs were a dense mass of scramble completely separate from the (excellent) tortilla chips. Both are just so not chilaquiles.

Amazing. Diverse menu with some fine dining items. Great attention to detail and flavors. Most of the items can be prepared gluten free upon request. My gf and I went for date night while visiting the city. We had several dishes and everything we tried was excellent. The main entree knocked it out of the park. Our waiter, Patrick, was knowledgeable and attentive without being pushy. Highly recommend.

Nice quiet restaurant in Burlington VT. Staff very nice and attention time. Food interesting and kinda memorable. Need to return a try a different dish.

Stopped by for brunch. Great service, friendly staff and awesome food selection. Dog friendly too. Brunch is something like 7-2, which is great if you like sleeping in late, like I do. :) Nice and quiet, busy but not loud. No obnoxious music drowning everyone out. I recommend the maple milk, coffee, and turkey club. Orange juice has pulp. Cocktails are available, decent selection. On a side note, I was planning on eating there last night, but it was insanely loud, and there was no one manning the front area, it looked pretty busy though so understandable. Just be aware, it gets loud and busy around dinner time.

Disgusted with this place. Call made a reservation all they had available was a 5:45 and I took it. I called around found some I watch my kids sooner so me and the wife could go out for her birthday dinner. Then they called me back to tell me that the spot I cooked is not available and they gave it to somebody else and now the only time they have is 515. They will not give me the 545 that I already booked ridiculous will never recommend to anybody to go here what a joke.

We have had great food at Juniper, but often visit for drinks at the bar. Set back from Church Street, and with drink prices a little higher, you don't really get much if any of the college crowd. We really enjoy the mixed drink selection, an the comfortable seating by the fireplace indoors or fire pits outside.

For pre dinner drinks: various seating options great for all kinds of hangin' out 'n' bein' classy / fire pit / solid cocktail and brew options

Excellent food. We had the beef-mushroom burger and the fried chicken. Very accommodating server brought out wine tastings to help the selection. Lost a star because we were pestered by little flies in the dining room.

My wife and I visited for dinner. I had the steak, which was excellent and my wife had the burger. She, being a 'burger connoisseur' said that it was one of the best, if not the best, burgers she's ever had. She begrudgingly let me try...she was right. It was fantastic. Our server, I believe her name was Kristin, was an absolute delight. She was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable of the local area. It was so good we went back for breakfast for our next meal! I rarely order pancakes. They're always one of three things: boring, overly sweet, or jammed with too much stuff, but something made me get them. These things were absolute perfection. Even my wife, who has declared her disdain for pancakes, commented on how good the looked...then slowly her fork made its way to my plate...she loved them. We live in Boston, so it's not the shortest drive, but there has already been discussion about returning for a meal(s). The sunset over the lake isn't so bad either :)

Went last night for dinner. We showed up an hour before dinner started to be served (starts at 5:00pm) so we each ordered a drink from the menu & something small from the light fare menu. I had the Lazy Bear cocktail & Jon ordered a Citizen cider. Both were amazing and we ended up getting another round. The herb fries with aioli & ketchup were fantastic & the perfect size for two to share. Atmosphere was relaxed & chill, families, couples, children...a good mix of everyone. Our waiter was very nice & accomodating as well! Later we ordered dinner and our sandwiches were filling & delicious! I recommend the grass fed burger. I took half of it with me because I couldn't finish it, but it is the perfect portion sizes burger. Overall great dining experince, I would go again!!

Jordan Rogowski

Was here over 10 minutes, and at no point was I anything that could be construed as acknowledged by a bartender. Look, I get it — you’re gonna wait a little longer on a weekend night. You’re probably not going to get a drink right away. But I’ve been in no shortage of bars and at the good ones, you’ll get a “hey I’ll be right over” or a head nod so you know they’re aware of you. None of that here.

R A

We came to Burlington and had a reservation for both the Juniper and Hen of the Wood, and we decided to go to Juniper. Our entree that was the steak for two for $70 came out stone cold. It was gross. As in the fat from the T-bone steak that was 20 ounces (supposedly according to the waitress) was ridiculously cold, as in the fat on the plate was jellied and the steak was pre-cut for us (why would it be pre-cut, since it would cause the steak to cool down faster?). The manager, in his defense, who was as accommodating as he could be, said that he could offer us two separate steaks, but they would be different cuts from the steak we originally ordered and would be skirt steaks instead of a t-bone, which is not what we wanted or ordered. So be prepared. They don’t have a great view and their service/timing is not the best, considering how much you are paying. We were fortunate enough to find another place to dine last-minute. It was a matter of poor execution with timing and service at this restaurant.

Great restaurant find in Burlington VT. I went for dinner with my wife, we we're staying at a motel a few miles away. This place was worth the drive, we parked in the garage next door which was free if you park less than two hours. The food was very good, I had the French dip sandwich and we shared the nachos. We did not have dessert but I am sure it's good. Make reservations as the seating is limited.
