Very good Mexican food in Montpelier, capital city of Vermont State.... variety and authentic flavours, great service and ambiance plus a well stocked wine and spirits (tequila and mezcal, of course) bar
Excellent food, friendly staff, and went the extra mile to help out with food allergies. Very glad we stopped in here for lunch.
Disgusting owner. Do not come here at all. The food is trash and if you have any allergies the owner with purposely put that in your food. Surprised this business is still open
Mediocre food. We are local but unfortunately not many other options. Service was lousy. Ran out of salsa and asked the waitress for more and she disappeared. Never actually got the salsa and my drink was empty a couple of times. Mexican food is pretty simple. Serving it is even simpler. Keep the chips and salsa bowls full and never let a customers drink get to the bottom of the glass!
Great service. Good drinks. Decent food but not the greatest. Fresh salsas and guac are to notch, but the rest is only OK. To be fair, I had just come from a trip West and had some fabulous Mexican food, so my expectations may have been too high.
Really good food D and service
Extremely rude and doesn't respect customers dietary wishes. Asking for a burrito without cheese doesn't mean the owner should hide cheese in the burrito to teach me a lesson.
Enchiladas dry and overbaked. Salsa overwhelmed by garlic. Chips stale.
Decent food, okay prices, service was pleasant but not the most efficient
Solid mexican food. Never been disappointed here.
Easy parking, great food, great waitstaff...super friendly. Wife and I had a nice meal. Recommend.
Readily responsive when questioned about their willingness to make food to order for special dietary or allergy needs. Also seem to be willing to make modifications, especially when the request is to leave off an expensive ingredient. Thanks for being publically open and direct about your willingness to make vegan modifications in light of the recent unnecessary controversy.
Best Mexican on the block
Good food at decent prices. Friendly wait staff.
Good food and atmosphere.
Always delicious!
Always a wonderful experience at Julio's! The food is terrific - my current favorite is the squash, Apple and cheese quesadilla - staff are all friendly, courteous and fast-moving, and the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable. Lots of choices to eat in Montpelier, really good places, and I find myself at Julio's more often than most places.
The young man in this picture was very nice I can't remember what his name was there's always a joy to go in and have him service us thank you very much one of my favorite spots in Vermont thank-you Julio's
Not authentic Mexican cuisine however some of the best wait staff in Montpelier.
great Mexican food in the heart of Montpelier. They also have surprisingly good burgers (Tuesday is half priced burgers for lunch!). Friendly service and good prices.
Great food good prices nice helping sizes nanchos are to die for
I ordered steak fajitas and asked for no sour cream. However, sour cream came out smeared all over, there was barely any steak (but a ridiculous amount of onions and peppers), and it came out mildly warm not hot. The waiter seemed annoyed that I wanted to get my order right and attempted to charge me extra for asking him to get it right. Someone wrote that the chips and salsa are amazing, but that's definitely untrue. The bottom line? Bad service and poor quality food.
Standard Tex Mex. Fair. Not especially good or unique.
very yummy food. I suggest the house nachos with black olives.
Super full, price is reasonable and for the first time I kind of like the beans. The service is good. The portion is too big for my small Asian stomach, but glad that I can take my leftovers back. Heard my peers said that the shrimp stuffing is good
Fantastic Food, I live in Pioneer Valley and am used to great restaurants. Julio's ranks right up there. Service was fast and friendly. The shrimp tacos and steak fajitas were yummy. Definitely will return.
Tasty food at a great price and a good selection!
Wouldn't change a thing.
Excellent food and great service
Food is delicious
This might be unfair, since I am from the North Bay, California, where Mexican food is good any place you go, but if I'm going to pay 15 dollars for a burrito, it better be bangin. This one wasn't. Overpriced food that's in no way authentic. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is that the service is good. Too bad they waste good service on bad Mexican food.
Delicious food with unique vegetarian options.
Had a mixed experience here. Food was okay and drinks were okay but the waiter was not a people person or just in a terrible mood. Ruined the atmosphere for us
Always a fun time at Julios! Great staff!
Fresh ingredients, well presented with good service. Would definitely return again.
Hands down the best Mexican in Montpelier. The food, service, and drinks are fantastic. Prices are reasonable and specials are good. Try a margarita if you aren't driving. Recommended.
Good food. Pretty decent selection of vegetarian options.
Hides cheese in vegan's burritos so that we "learn to eat real cheese"
Pretty great atmosphere and food
We had a great time with great service and great food!
Great food and service, nice atmosphere, good brew selection.
It was ok. Tacos were fine. Table salsa was good. A friend had the taco salad and she thought it was good. Would have been great to not be seated in front of the door as there was only one other table when we arrived.
Great Food, Beer and Service
It's a nice place but the food can be a little over priced for the quality. Great drink list though and they have really good specials.
The Veggir burritos are awesome. Everyone had a great meal.
As always, wonderful. Great food and service. I go here often.
This place will poison you. They only follow allergy restrictions when they feel like it's.convenient for them. They will put whatever they feel like in your food. Sometimes they won't even replace/refund your meal if they sneak an allergen in there. The owner is very unprofessional and so of the rest of the staff. The service is terrible and the food tastes soooo disgusting.
Thanks again Our favorite place for Mexican food in Vermont
Purposefully put allergens in food despite being asked for food without them.
Great service. Food was great.
Outstanding, great selection. Amazing staff, just a wonderful atmosphere!
Nice bar and restaurant. Good selection of craft beers and mixed drinks. Now about the food. I got a couple of tacos and refried beans with rice. Rice was cold, beans were warm. Tacos were ok but seems like a lot of flavoring thrown in just to make a unique taste. Flavors over ran each other so didn't have a standout taste. Wife got shrimp fajitas. Shrimp was good but everything else on it was either burnt or tasted bad. Looked like veggies wear precooked and then reheated. Needless to say veggies not eaten. Her stomach bothered her for a couple of days. In conclusion, nice place for a drink but be cautious of what you choose on menu.
Great food and service. Reasonable prices.
food was good drinks were good so it was a good experience
Great food and even better company. My retirement party went well!
Standard Mexican food.
I had the Mexican Garlic Shrimp and it was one of the best meals I have ever had!
Casual setting, big platters with the nachos. Decent prices and short wait times.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and had a great chimichanga here!
My ultimate favorite place to eat good food Great service
Great stop if you're looking for a bite to eat downtown. The steak fajitas and chicken chimichangas were delish and our waitress was super nice!
Great Mexican food good service but a little slow.
The food was goog.
The food was very good and the staff was also the same. You will not be disappointed.
It is consistently the same as when I was a teenager. American Tex-Mex. Cheap. Fills you up.
Friendly service and tasty food.
Our family has been going for some years now. Everything's good & clean & the service is fine. But they stopped making the really good french fries they'd made for years & we've stopped. We can do better elsewhere.
Quick service, tasty house Marg, good chips n salsa.
Bland tasting, but okay! Service is always lack luster, and so is the pricing..
Loved it
Excellent Mexican food. Prices can be a little high so go to their website and review the weekly specials to ensure you get a deal.
Food tastes much better now, love tacos
A variety of entrees that I don't find at most "Mexican" places. Attentive waitstaff and very patient explaining options for my wife with diatary limitations
I am revising my review of Julio's. For years I loved the atmosphere but hated the food. Since early 2013 I've eaten there 4 times, and on each occasion the food was very good. The atmosphere is even better than the food, but my favorite thing about Julio's is the server named Megan. That girl is a walking angel - a delightful presence on any day of the year!
We love to go to Julios before s movie. Waitstaff is excellent and so is the food.
Great food, great prices, great service
Best bloody Mary I've had. Great food, good service in a picturesque small town (capitol of Vermont)!
Not authentic Mexican food at all. Better off going to Stowe, Vermont
Good food and low prices. Quick service.
Centrally located with a warm and inviting atmosphere. I highly recommend the House Margaritas, they are to die for!
Haven't been here in over two years. I used to love it here. Everything started fine. But, I told the server I need to place a to go order and they never came back until we were almost done eating and I didn't want to wait 30 more minutes for food so I did not mention anything and they clearly had forgotten. This happens I understand, no big deal. But, the person I was with found hair in their food and when I went to the rest room our server was standing around the corner on their cell phone. I will return in the future but ask for a different server.
Three street tacos for $10 on lunch special. The tortillas were tough to chew. The chorizo filling was okay but nothing special. The shrimp filling was great. Shrimp cooked just right. Avacado was fresh. Would recommend the shrimp. All tacos would benefit from adding fresh lime wedges. The restaurant is dark inside both lighting and decor. A small bar is at the rear of the room. Outside seating is available. My server was helpful and knowledgeable when ordering, but never returned to refill drinks or ask about meal. I was almost finished with my meal before i saw him on the floor again. I had to wave and get his attention to refill drinks and get an extra napkin. Menu prices are a little high for what is served. Authentic street tacos are not served with complicated and multilayered fillings. They can be better found from street and food truck taco vendors, prepared from basic ingredients, such as choice of meat with cilantro, onion, hot sauce and a lime, served on a paper plate at half the price. Maybe the chef should rename these as "Vermont style tacos". So, three stars because nothing was terrible, but not so great either. Edible, but ho-hum, and room for improvement in service.
They provide you with chips and salsa. They have hot and mild salsa. The hot was not super hot and had good flavor. The mild was very sweet. We ordered the steak fajitas for $18. It was enough for two people to share. It comes with a large side of shredded cheese, lettuce and diced tomatoes. It came with rice but we requested refried beans. For $4.95 you can get a side of white queso. The meat was flavorful and served on a sizzling plate with sliced onion and green peppers. The tortillas were flour and from a package. There is a bar with about six seats. They have nightly specials written on a chalk board. They play non Spanish music that doesn't go with the ambiance. There is Free street parking at night. They have outdoor and indoor seating. Overall, it was good American style Mexican food in Vermont.
This is not authentic Mexican food but Tex-Mex at best. Fresh guacamole is a plus but the meats needed some seasonings. Overall, decent.
Nice staff, staple of Montpellier
Very tasty mexican food in a easy to find restaurant in Montpelier. For those that can't easily make decisions about what to have, their combination plates solve indecision. Full bar and helpful waitstaff.
Not the better tacos in the land. Service was great.
I love Julio's. They have a wide variety of choices, yummy margaritas and friendly staff. Daily Specials too. My favorite is the Cantina Cobb Salad!
The great place but the food isn't the best and I found a hair in my taco
They have a great house hamburger.
Horrible. The meat was awful! There were Flies everywhere and on top of that very expensive. Staff were nice tho. I wouldn’t go back.
I stopped at Julio’s while on a road trip and it was a fabulous experience! Our server was attentive and kind. The food was incredible, prices fair, and ideal portion size. I was especially impressed by multiple gluten-free AND vegetarian options! This is so rare and appreciated. I choose the squash enchiladas, which were delicious and seasoned wonderfully, 10/10. So often vegetarian options at Mexican restaurants are just a sloppy messy of cheese and beans. My husband tried a variety of the meat street tacos and he enjoyed them all.
Nice place! Awesome food!
Quiet on a Monday evening before a movie. Friendly and fast service. Yummy food.
The margaritas were good, the fajitas were great and the peanut butter pie was even better! Yes, I know that is strange thing to point out for a Tex-Mex place but it really was that good.
Great food and Great service!
Always enjoy our time here. Food is good and fresh. Service fast and friendly.
Bland. It's probably the worst phrase that can be used to describe a Mexican restaurant, but sadly this is the case. Salsa had no taste, even with mountains of added bland table-side hot sauce. Got two varieties of the tacos, both were greasy messes that, again, lacked flavor. One was supposed to be super spicy, but lacked any heat. Everything was dripping down the sopping wet shells, making the experience of eating them as mediocre as the taste. How we ended up with greasy shrimp is beyond me. The chorizo taco was bland with a goofy aftertaste. My wife got a taco salad which she aptly described as "fine." I had a bite and can confirm this. The service was OK. This might be a three star review at another restaurant, but if there's one thing I want from Mexican cuisine its big flavors and they failed, big time.
Excellent food, excellent service. Our table was tippy, but we made do. Parking may be awkward due to Montpelier's lack of building side lots, however there is communal parking in several locations in a 5-10 minute walk, which will means you'll have a chance to work up a little more appetite, and take in the beauty of this little capital. You will not be disappointed. Unless you are totally put off by tippy furniture...
Good food
Really mediocre Mexican food, dpon't expect great things here.
Loved my meal and Margarita at Julio's. I had a Mexican Rice Bowl which was out of this world. When I was asked which kind, I said, oh, are there different options? The pork plus apple and squash sounded like a great combo. The waiter said I'm sure we can do both, and they did!
I have been to a lot of Mexican restaurants, and this one is definitely the best! Chips and salsa amazing, I had the three taco and beef and it was incredible! If anyone is in Montpelier, and hungry for Mexican food, Go Here!!!
Everything was delicious. I highly recommend the tamale fritters. Big thanks to Nile for suggesting the summertime white sangria. Street tacos were perfect for lunch.
They will not considee special dietary requests. Beware!
Food was great. Jeff was our waiter and he was awesome. He was pretty busy but very attentive.
The food is quite well done compared to other Mexican restaurants in the region which makes this always an option when in the mood for Mexican food. The building is a nicely decorated and has a nice cozy feel on a cool Vermont day. If its warm out sitting outside street side is always a treat.
Was just going to stop for a drink but the food was tempting and proved to be tasty!
Great food, great atmosphere, and super friendly staff.
Great food and was the only place open on a Sunday during a snow storm.
I had the roasted butternut squash, apples and corn enchiladas, which I've not seen at any other Mexican restaurant. It was very good, except it had too much cheese and not enough filling.
Awesome food and atmosphere!
Medium quality Mexican food. Decent ambience.
I experienced only average service and food
The salsa is very fresh and the chips are stale. The guacamole is also discolored and fresh. Will you are visit in and my eyes caught it, but we won't be back. Where is the real Mexican food? The taco salad was really good and the service was not so bad.
Excellent food and service staff!
It's good... For Vermont
