This Restaurant is included in the category of Chinese restaurant.
The best thing was the drinks and the broccoli.. had to scrape up the rice, half hard noodles, the fish was VERY fishy
Poor service, dirty bowls, sub-par food at best, extremely weak scorpion bowls for the price (basically all pineapple juice). My first and very last visit
Delicious and great staff and prices.
We come here regularly for one or two rounds of pan fried dumplings and cocktails or wine!! Very nice staff and a great dedicated Owner!! When the Owner is there he goes out of his way to prepare a very special shrimp or beef dish for us since we prefer to not take the “all you can eat” buffet favored by many locals. The buffet is excellent if you come right at start of lunch time or start of dinner time. But be ready to put on 5 pounds the next day on your scale!!
Always a consistently good buffet with a friendly wait staff.
We went for lunch not much variety only meat was chicken
It's about what youd expect of a chinese buffet. Food tasted pretty good with a wide selection and for a reasonable price. I would eat there again but no need to make a special trip.
My husband and I were just passing through and found this gem! This was probably some of the best Chinese food we’ve ever had. Their wonton soup is fantastic!! The hubs said the hot and sour soup was excellent too.
Best Chinese food in the area. Excellent buffet,
I just found out that the house of tang restaurant is for sale
The finest Chinese buffet Vermont has to offer. Been going here all my life. Still the best. Warrants a trip to the capital all by itself. 10/10 will eat again.
Very good food and delightful staff!
This place is great Yes very kid friendly. Chicken wings, crabrangoons, andshrimp line in excellent. The bar is fully stalked and they offer a drink called a scorpion bowl gotta try.
Fantastic buffet and feel
I can't believe how bad this place is. Really overpriced buffet for the cost. Most the Chinese buffets in the area charge $2-$3 less and have twice the offering. The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one of that the staff is friendly and the service find.
Love this place, stop every time I'm in town!
Sat there for a half hour and waited for the buffet to start, only to be told they were a half hour behind. Waitresses weren't the most courteous. Drinks were good, but that's not the point of a buffet, unless they start a liquor buffet we will not return
The last few times me and my wife went to dinner here the food service was for a better word lacking the food was missing from most of the bar no egg rolls, no pork fried rice and the spare ribs were fatty and looked a little uncooked when I spoke to the waitress she kind of blew me off and I wasn't impressed which is sad I use to bring my daughter there when she was a baby the service and quality of house of tang has disappeared,
House of tang was best chinese buffet ever havent been there since the 90s i miss yall yo remember me lol i gotta come to vermont again someday n say hi i miss the house of tang u know il always remember the 1st chinese buffet i ever ate at i aint seen yall since like 1998 lol
My bad. Should know better to go Sunday evening. Empty and oldish dishes. Chicken drumsticks so tough and dry. Lo mein was good. Sweet and sour sauce was good too. I do love this place usually.
The selection is small but everything was great!! One of the best Egg Rolls I've ever had!! Staff was very friendly, curtious, and on point with taking dishes and filling drinks.
Service sucked, food was undercooked and had very little selection.
Love the buffet
It is the best of best Chinese food around no body can compare to it ,I enjoyed for the last 30 years !
Run of the mill Chinese buffet
Great food and service.
Only saw 4 workers, the bartender and 2 servers and we saw the dishwasher bring clean dishes out...... everybody looked miserable there....The dishwasher actually was smiling....... was not a comfortable dinner...... It was sooooooooo hot in there.....and NO MORE chix teriyaki on buffet?????? That is crazy.... I am a regular buffet customer and will not be returning. : (
the food and service was great. I needed something special made and they were happy to make it for me.
Service was great. But the food was not as good as it used to be.
Decent food had better though
Fresh great food
Accurate Americanized Chinese cuisine. Food is a little greasy. I'm not at fan of the fish tanks.
Great buffet. Reasonably priced.
Absolutely LOVE the food here!!!
Delicious.
Great service and drinks. 22 different options to choose from on the buffet. People who say there are no options are lying! Beef, chicken, pork, and vegetable dishes. Also a salad bar, soups, ice cream, and pastries included! You can not beat the quality and quantity for the price. The menu is just as good, maybe even better, with a very extensive list of foods you could order.
Excellent food! I am buffet adverse, but this was great!
Too late for buffet but that was fine as the food was awesome. Waitress forgot one dish so that messed it a little but fresh cooked was well worth it.
Absolutely disgusting food and dried out along with little tiny bugs flying over thier salad bar $24. 00 Wasted would not take.my dog cow or pig to eat there and I don't own any of them
The food here is consistent. The buffet is good with a pretty good selection. You have to hit it when it's busy though, or things may run out or not be the freshest. Take out is amazing. You get generous portions that will leave you with great leftovers.
I used to live within 1/4 mile of House of Tang and enjoyed the cuisine since it opened. However, now that I have moving to Southern CA where they have all kinds of Chinese restaurants, I know how many different types are available. There are many Chinese Fast Food places, sit down restaurants, etc but nothing beats the House of Tang in my opinion. When we go back to visit, the first place I always go is here, as often as I can get my husband to take me. I wish I could find out how they make the Garlic Sauce that they use for the Green Beans and Garlic Chicken. I miss it a lot! I have yet to experience the same Hot Mustard that they have there. All the places out here use whimpy stuff. All of House of Tang's food is delicious and the service is second to none!
Always good food
Very good food
The ultimate Chinese buffet! Fast, friendly service.
We love House of Tang. Nam is the best Host. Food is fresh and tasty.
Awesome restaurant! Staff and food are great
Was ok. Price was right for the buffet.
Love the different dishes
Food was hot, ready, refilled as necessary.
We had take out on a Sunday evening. Very disappointed as not as good as use to be. Trashed most of it as pork fried rice tasted like it was warmed up from Yesterday. We have been going there for years but I believe it will be our last....
Place was good for many years, gone down hill.
Nice folks!
Buffet was empty
Kids always request the House of Tang as their birthday dinner. Buffet is great, prices are always good for the amount of food you get, always fresh.
Great place
Can't find any place better to eat ! Best food best service and best restaurant in town !
I don't know what happened to there take out! House of Tang was my favorite. No beef in the beef and broccoli, no duck sauce with the super greasy chicken fingers and no veggies in the vegetable lomein!
Good food but they need better hours, would recommend to try it out, nice people there.
Nice atmosphere, good food. Friendly service.
Coming to 31 years this year! I like the dining environment here, it indeed a chinese restaurant! The buffet is quite good but the variety of foods still have room to improve~ it will be great if they can provide more choices of desserts too.
Awesome Chinese food! Been going here for years! The buffet is amazing, the muy tais taste GREAT and not super expensive for Chinese food! For sure visit here if you're hungry and want lunch!
Basic buffet, but they had a hard time keeping up with speed things were being eaten. The food was good, but the selection wasn't impressive. The worst Crab Rangoon I've ever had. I'd go back if a friend suggested we eat there, but next time I want Chinese I'll skip this buffet.
I like their to go menu, I have not been disappointed yet. I see people enjoying the buffet but I have yet to try it.
Sudley service with good food
Good food. Great service. Very clean
pretty average buffet
One of the worst meals I've had in years.
The staff is friendly, and the food and drinks are just Okay.Nice place in DESPERATE need of an overhaul! If the dining area looks the way it does, I never wanna see the kitchen.
Best Chinese around! Fantastic buffet! Can't wait to go again!
VERY disappointed! If you want to experience a REAL Chinese Buffet, don't go here. The best we've found around here is the Grand Buffet located in Essex Junction.
Love the buffet
Place is good for fresh chinese. In the area. The other place you could be eating something from lunch time
best egg rolls
Okay
Great food and service
Yummy as always
Excellent buffet; classic, comfortable and casual atmosphere and extremely friendly staff. Kid friendly; had a great time here tonight on my first visit, looking forward to next time!
Very pleasant staff
Great lunch buffet and reasonable prices. definitely a staple for Chinese in town.
The food was horrible, nothing to choose from.
Very small buffet and what they have is gross!!
Nice selection of great food
I went there today, all the staff changed, now it's like a punk rock convention. The food changed , it's going downhill . I don't know what happened to everyone and everything but I used to love this place
Decent buffet, cooked up in small batches to keep it fresh. You have to ask for white rice if you want some, it isn't on the buffet anymore.
Just went there for my birthday. Huge disappointment, lukewarm food, flat soda, dated with mirrors everywhere, slow service. very few choices compared to other Chinese restaurants. Worst was seeing my husband run to the bathroom a half hour later.
Okay food for cheap. Good place to go when on a budget.
I like this place.....sure it could use an uplift inside the place....sure if could offer more food choices....The owner is really nice....and most of the people who work in the place are nice.....But it's Vermont things don't change all that much around here and it they do its slow change!
I love everything about the house of tang!
No shrimp whatsoever the only seafood they had was scallops And it did not seem like they were done..
This is a great restaurant. The food is amazing, always fresh and hot. The service is outstanding, particularly Tammy and Mary Beth.
Good food with a good price. All you can eat buffet. The variety doesn't change much.
I just went yesterday. The food I received I wouldn't give to a scavenger. It was horrible, and some of the meat I did not know where it came from. It was the most disgusting food I ever bought for my family. I will not be going back ever.
One of the better Chinese places in the Montpelier area. The buffet is a solid option, and is definitely worth the $12. Staff are always nice, and the food is solid.
Great service and good food.
The AYCE buffet here cannot be beat. The price is right, the food is excellent. This family run place does a great job at serving up wonderful cuisine and fun drinks. Get one of those drinks that comes in one of the ceramic glasses. It's a kick. Great for Instagram.
I have become more and more disappointed with this place. Chicken tenders were hard as a rock, general sous was undercooked, and more. Waited a couple months to go this time...dont know if I'll be going back.
I have been going to The House of Tang for nearly 20 years. They have a good eclectic variety of foods from a number of provinces in China. They have luncheon and dinner buffets the quality of which is far better than the quickie take-outs in the Montpelier area. Their buffet competitor has a larger number of items but mostly a predominance of chicken dishes and the quality is only fare. The Tang restaurant also has an extensive menu of order in or out items that are interesting, exotic, fresh and flavorful. The staff are friendly and the prices are right. I have to disagree with one of the reviewers who called Tang a "grease pit". That couldn't be further from the truth. Try it...you will enjoy it.
If I could give them 0 stars I would. WORST restaraunt experience I've ever had. The food was cold and tasted stail. More than half of their "buffet" dishes were empty, and the atmosphere was terrible. Other tables being exstremly loud and poor staff. Disappointed considering your other reveiws.
Best Chinese food in town. The buffet is the way to go.
Pretty good food. I'd much rather order of the menu than get the buffet. Very consistent when ordering from menu. Sometimes buffet food is dry an limited.
Stopped in after driving past for the past few years. Restaurant was busy, sat at the tiny bar for a drink. Very friendly staff drinks were made well.
Food dishes where all empty when we arrived. Took a while for them to be filled. Workers where friendly and people were nices.
Still one of my favorite places to eat at. Always a good meal.
Good, inexpensive Chinese food. The buffet is 14.95 and is about 5.00 too high. However the menu is well priced for a generous quantity of food. Great staff too!
Your typical greasy cheap Chinese takeout type place. Good if you want a quick bite for the road not so good if you are looking to actually enjoy your meal.
Great place! They keep the buffet hot, frequently refilled, and well filled. A really good selection, and good Veg. selections too. It’s not the biggest buffet, but I’ll trade that for quality, fresh ingredients every time. But, if they have the Black Pepper Steak, you're going to want to try that! And the Homemade dumplings! Excellent Gen. Chows'... The Bad Reviews seem to be mostly about coming in at the end of the Buffet hours, and not having everything they want fresh on display. I went in within a 1/2 hour of the Buffet closing and they warned me they were running low. They let me take a look and I said OK, I know it’s late. The Owner asked if it was OK and I said I could have used a couple of Chicken wings. (theirs are the BEST around!) And he brought me some fresh! Very nice waitstaff!! Can't beat the $$ for all you can eat! And very clean! Seriously, I’ve been in the cleaning industry for a long time. The kitchen is clean, and the buffet is super clean and to temp!! Not like another nearby competitor, who shall remain nameless. Unless... ask me.
Service was great, food was okay, selection less so. No sign showing hours. Very clean. Add another buffet line or sushi.
We went out to dinner on a Saturday evening to the House of Tang. When we got to the buffet, most of the dinner choices were empty and there was no staff attending to the buffet. There were customers standing around waiting for food. When my husband mentioned it to one of the male staff, he responded with "don't worry about it". That was it for us! We left and will never go back! We went to the China Moon Buffet and enjoyed a variety of hot dishes. BEWARE!!!!!!
Grease pit.

I love House of Tang. It is hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Central Vermont. Nam is my guy!
This place is always so good and the owners are very friendly! I love going here!
Great food! A little pricey if you're not getting the buffet, but worth it!
This place Sucks!
On September 25th, my daughter and I decided at the last minute to eat a late lunch at House of Tang. It was about 2:10pm when we got there. We were seated by a gentleman and then the waitress arrived asking us if we were having the buffet to which we replied we were. She left to get our drinks and we went to the buffet. The buffet had little left in the individual pans and what was in the pans appeared dry. That is when we should have left the restaurant. I realize that many Chinese restaurants close their buffets around 2pm, but we should have been advised by the waitress that little remained and what remained was not fresh so that we could have requested a menu. But, we ate from the choices available and I ordered wonton soup. The soup was horrible. The food from the buffet was not much better. And, to make the experience even less enjoyable, flies buzzed our heads the entire time while we watched them fly all around the food on the buffet table. Later that day, I became ill. I told my husband that we are never going back.
Love the food .
Best Chinese food in central Vermont!
Buffet food is good however the waitresses are not to helpful. We came in at 4pm we were seated they didn't not inform us buffet was open at 430 when asked they acted like we should of known but it's not even stated on website. I think they all need to be trained. The owner is understanding though.
The Chan's are wonderful and the place is great!!
Yummy
May have been my worst time eating out. Awful food and the selection have been worse. Such a waste of money
