Best place to eat at smuggs. Downstairs at the bar is quintessential old time new England. Great food and service.

One of our favorite places to eat. Great quality food with traditional and unique menu options. Creative cocktails with wonderful flavor. Friendly staff. Gluten free can be accommodated for most dishes upon request by a very knowledgable kitchen. Good wine list with international and fantastic local options. Well worth the cost with large portion sizes.

Food was just ok, but expensive for the area. Menu choices somewhat limited. Staff was nice and wanted us to be pleased. Decor was very dated, and did not fit the menu's prices. If prices were about $10 less per entree, I'd consider going back.

The Hearth and Candle, at Smuggler's Notch Resort, boasts prices for entrees and drinks in the range of a low end fine dining establishment (expect around $100 for a dinner for two with drinks, more if you want apps and dessert). We were unimpressed to say the least. The atmosphere is fine, cute and quaint and appropriate for the mountain village setting. We asked to be seated in the "adults only" section since we had dropped our kids of for the evening and were looking for a quiet, more romantic evening. Dinner started off well, an attentive and pleasant server read the long list of specials - only glancing at her notepad once or twice - and we ordered specialty cocktails, which were served quickly and were rather tasty. Nothing I'm going to add to the rotation at home, but fun and Vermont-y. (read: lots of maple). Then came dinner; I ordered a Boar entree that was served on crispy kale with gnocchi. My wife wasn't hungry so she ordered the house salad with chicken. I noticed that the kitchen was just off of the upper "adult only" room when I heard the first ding of a microwave. Followed immediately by the slam of the same microwave door and the tell-tale whir of the machine being restarted. Uh-oh. My wife thought maybe they were warming up kids meals for the lively crew in the lower room by the fire, and we dismissed the rather busy microwave for the time being (we heard it repeatedly for the rest of dinner). When our entrees arrived, I found my Boar to be piping hot and dry, and as I pulled it apart it was still frozen on the inside (not quite a skilled microwave chef it seems). My wife's chicken was rubbery and somewhat tasteless, quite apparently frozen, and her salad was well over dressed. I found the gnocchi flavorful, but it was also quite obviously not made from scratch. If we had paid $8-12 for these entrees, I'd have been satisfied and simply asked to have my plate heated more. But for the price, I expected fresh, local ingredients and a much better preparation technique than "60 seconds on high." Not recommended given the price. They handled it reasonably well, we were comped for all but the drinks (this is the first time I've ever sent back a meal, and I was actually a bit nervous to do so). The manager never did come talk to us, and the server didn't bat an eye when we mentioned that we were disappointing that a meal at this rate was so obviously nuked.

As frequent guests of smugglers notch, hearth and candle is a place we make sure to visit at least once each trip up here. The menu does change (which sometimes makes us sad because we have favorite meals) but it does gove us the opportunity to try new things. We have never had a bad meal or less than amazing experience, and we have been coming here since 2012, twice a year.

Our wedding was in Jericho VT - and we chose to host our Rehearsal Dinner at the Hearth and Candle, never having eaten at the restaurant. Akash, the Event Manager - was extremely organized and flexible. The staff was pleasant, efficient, and extremely friendly. The food was delicious and exceeded expectations. The presentation was awesome and really added to the ambiance, which was family friendly!

Always a great meal.

The duck was divine.

I wish I could give this restaurant a 4.8 since it is much better than a 4, but not quite a 5. I was impressed with their charcuterie; particularly the duck prosciutto and fennel sausage. I assume those two items come prepared from a vendor, but as someone who has made duck prosciutto from scratch a number of times, I would rather get it right from a vendor than just ok from the kitchen. The other items on the menu were nearly excellent. I cannot find any fault. However, portions seemed more important than fineness.

Went for a dinner with my girlfriend on a Tuesday night. The place was pretty quiet and we got a table right in front of the fireplace. We ordered the cheese board with some local varieties and were impressed with the offerings. For the appetizer, we did the maple pork belly with scallops and squash puree with balsamic reduction... it was absolutely delicious - perhaps the highlight of the meal. My girlfriend got the seared oven roasted fois-gras stuffed quail and enjoyed it immensely. I had the seafood linguini and was not disappointed. Our server was very attentive and made some good recommendations to compliment our choices.

Soup was barely lukewarm. Ordered filet mignon and it was medicore at best. Also got lamb, it was still bleating.best tasting item was the butter. The only thing worst than the food was the service. Felt like we were intruding on their break.

While walking in to this restaurant I wasn't expecting much based on the shabby entrance but I was really surprised at how good the food was. Everything we ordered was great. I had a burger which I thought was on the small side but excellent tasting. My wife had some chicken tacos which had beautiful fresh ingredients. My son had a kids filet which was perfect. Service was attentive. The manager was on top of everything. Beer selection on tap was very good. Prices were expensive but at Smugglers Notch everything is expensive. I highly recommend this place.

We were given a $100 credit from where we were staying. We had 6 people to use the gift card so we went online to see what kind of food they had and decide what we wanted to eat ahead of time so it wouldn't take a long time to get our food and get it eaten. Once we got there the menu had nothing on it from what was shown on their website. When we asked our waitress about it she gave some lame excuse that there was another restaurant that has a similar name and their menu got confused by that one. I looked it up again and the menu said it was from this restaurant. So now we had to get new thoughts on what we were going to eat and the prices were a lot higher. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
