We ordered through DoorDash. We were from out of town, here with NYC Ballet. Our order was missing a side dish, so I called right away. The person who answered apologized and said an adjustment would be made to the bill, which was almost $100. I waited a week, no adjustment. As I was leaving town, sent an email, and here it is, almost three weeks later and no response. If, when I had initially called, the response would have been we are sorry but nothing can be done on a delivery order, I would not have been thrilled but would Have chalked it up to how things go. But to have been told that something would be done to correct it and then to be ignored? It really doesn’t matter about whether or not the food was good if the management has no regard for the customer satisfaction.
If you are a fried chicken fan, this storied establishment is your place! don't fear it, but there will be a long wait in summertime and during the races. I highly recommend the spicy version this popular fried chicken. don't be afraid, it isn't super spicy hot. the hoppin salad is my favorite side dish. and of course you can't go wrong with iced tea. take the time to read the history of the place in the menu.
I've never been there but Google insists that I have. This review is to get Google to quit asking for a review even though I keep saying I've never been there.
The food was delicious, drinks were strong, and the restaurant is decorated with all of their press clippings in a really nice way. There staff is also super nice and helpful. Get the fried chicken, you will not be sorry!
Good breakfast. Popular place. Looks small from the outside but they have seating in the back and in the alleyway next to them. Will be going back to try dinner soon.
Great after a day at the races
Really delicious food. Went for brunch and sat on the back porch lovingly called "The Swamp". The atmosphere was so nice. Loved the Deviled Eggs and Chicken and Waffles. The best fried chicken hands-down in Saratoga!
gumbo is amazing!
Warm, cozy restaurant featuring high quality, generously portioned, authentic Southern cooking. The large, sweet, hot and sour chicken wings are a tasty change of pace from buffalo. The butter-milk fried chicken (both white and dark meat), cajun rice, local corn on the cob and hush puppies were perfect and much better than KFC, Popeye's or other fast food counterparts. The authentic key lime pie and pecan pie were marvelous deserts. The manager/owner and the servers were warm and friendly. Overall, the service was excellent. We weren't rushed and our glasses were never dry. A must-try restaurant.
Hidden gem in the middle of Saratoga. Thou the chicken could have been a little spicer.
2nd time visiting. Was excited to bring my visiting mom. Underwhelmed this time. Food was lukewarm and owner was overly concerned about seating large party that was yet to arrive. Didn't make us feel welcome. Server was very apologetic and friendly though. Maybe just an off day.
I'd tried Hattie's a few years back and wasn't impressed. I decided to give it another try, and I just cannot get on board with all of the hype. The atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, wait staff very friendly and helpful, but the food was just not good. For starters, everything came to us at room temp..at best. The chicken was dry and flavorless. The cornbread was the exact same. There was just literally no taste to any of the food. I wanted to love it because the staff was so great and it was just a pleasant place to be, but, I just didnt enjoy it at all.
We were looking for a casual bite and found Hatties. The wife was just looking for a simple salad and was happy.. I on the other hand had to grab their fried chicken.. Holy Moly people.. This was a great meal and nothing came home... small cozy place.. wait staff was fantastic.. we loved it
Very good
Great as always. Just one concern. The guy who greeted us as we entered... Don't sound obnoxious to customers with comments like "sorry can't seat you on a bigger table unless you are going to order food for 4 people" (my wife requested, it was just the two of us, and I TOTALLY understand that when a restaurant is busy these requests aren't logical, but just a simple 'sorry restaurant is really busy so we have to seat customers accordingly' would have sufficed). Oh and we did order $80 worth of food for the two of us, so that's that. Our server was super nice though! As was the bus boy. And the food was great! As always!!
Best restaurant in America and possibly the world. Anyone giving less than a five star review has no taste buds and no heart.
Best fried chicken so good
Got take-out. Fried chicken was as good as advertised. Grits were well seasoned and excellent as well. Take-out service was extremely fast and friendly. Glad I stopped by!
Wonderful food, amazing atmosphere!
Historic and famous for the signature southern chicken dinners. This is the place every tourist should check out...lots to choose from but this is the go to restaurant. Southern hospitality is their specialty, and it has a quaint atmosphere too.
It was ok. The chicken fried steak and eggs was good, but the biscuit and gravy was lacking. The smoked ham hash was missing the smoked ham. They treat ice like its gold. They serve room temp water, and serve ice in small glasses and only after you ask twice. Service was slow. Home fries are outstanding.
Was there Monday 8/5/2019, absolutely one of the best meals I have ever had at restaurants.
Great place for chicken and collard greens
Wonderful service and GREAT food!!. I left my debit card and they literally walked it down to my next location. I'll travel to Saratoga Springs for Hatties anytime!!!
The best fried chicken ever! I’m a transplant from Long Island & I can tell you there is nothing like this that I’ve ever experienced!
Good Southern Louisiana cuisine.
Great fried
Good food. This restaurant has moved recently.
Awesome brunch
Clean and delicious food
The food was just ok. The toast was plain. The deviled eggs were average. The chicken was alright (not a wow). The chicken and waffles was just so-so (nothing a lot of butter and syrup couldn't help). We did enjoy the hash. Side note... If you want the best fried chicken, we think the Red Barn in Maine beats them all (even Nashville!). The live music was really nice, but the building could definitely use a deep clean. The server was great, very friendly.
Food and hospitality was great.
Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, greens and biscuits! Amazing
Great service and great food. Love that they leave the water on the table so you don’t have to ask for refills. The mimosas were 10/10!
As a southern native, I am impressed! The fried chicken was really good, the fried green tomatoes were excellent as well, but the collard greens... Some of the best I've ever had.
Best fried chicken in the northern United States.
This little dive is a slice of southern heaven. Make sure to try the Nashville Hot fried chicken without missing out on the fresh corn bread. So amazing.
The closest southern food you'll get this far north sp it's good. It's super average. The greens are sweet like yams so that was weird. It's edible.
Incredibly good! Friendly staff. Lovely decor!
Great atmosphere and great food!
Hush puppies and green beans were the best part. The fried chicken wasn’t very meaty.
Amazing comfort food - try the fried chicken and the hush puppies
Try the fried chicken!!! It's amazing!!! And sausage gravy is incredible!!!! The Hattie's bloody Mary was delicious with bacon and a chicken wing coming off the top. Great food!
Completely lives up to their reputation. Food is delicious and the service is attentive but not intrusive. Our server, Megan was a delight. It took us the three years since we learned of Hattie's to get there but we will be back very soon!
It was a Sunday. They were pretty packed. Food was slow and room temp when we got it. Was still delicious. If I were from the area I would give it another try, just think it was a super busy day.
Best fried chicken I've had since living down south. Well done!
Great food great service
Charming space, and the fried chicken can't be beat. The mashed potatoes and collards were also top-notch (especially since the collards were meat-free - a real rarity). The biscuits were very salty, and the corn/bean/rice salad's rice was undercooked. Good jambalaya, and the rice in the rice and beans was fine.
Hidden gem. Great in the summer, but head here in the winter months and you'll find yourself back in Grandma's kitchen. Warm, cozy atmosphere. We went for brunch and the crab Benedict was great, but when my friend's chicken and waffles came out, I wished I could have ordered a second breakfast ( elevensies?). Lovely dedicated staff, and in these cold months, plenty of parking.
The food was so good for dinner, I had to come back the next day for brunch. And of course... it was amazing. Get the biscuits and gravy!!!
Great fried chicken and brunch. Friendly staff and a good setting and atmosphere overall
First time. Chicken is good. Appears popular with locals. Has Bar, interesting decor.
The inside can be cramped but love the back patio. Great service and food.
Great food, dark atmosphere could use a little bit more lighting but overall a great experience.
Always get the fried chicken here when I am in Saratoga
Fantastic food, great price.
Was very disappointed with corn bread and beignets. If you stay you are Lousiana food then be Lousiana food. I grow up outside of New Orleans and this was nothing even closest to anything I have tried before. We happy with the chicken.
Quite simply I love their fried chicken. It's our go-to every time we're in. No frills, just good, honest comfort food. The menu has changed a little. No more fried okra or grits, but they've added Nashville style hot chicken. My kids beg me to bring them here whenever we're remotely nearby. Highly recommend and once you go, you'll go back.
Everything was so delicious and the atmosphere was great. Recommend dining on the patio.
best fried chicken. one of my favorite saratoga eateries. good cajun. pleasant ambiance. highly recommended.
Both times we're driven between Montreal and NYC we specifically schedule a stop at Hattie's. If I had to complain about something is that their main plates are too frickin' big... I'd love to be able to order a one or two piece fried chicken dinner so I could enjoy starters or dessert! Best fried chicken we've ever had. Super cute location in a super adorable town.
Delicious southern food especially fried
Best Mac in the world!
Had dinner at Hatties on a Thursday. The restaurant has really nice ambiance and decoration. We ordered the fried chicken entree, the chicken was ok but not outstanding and we thought it was really overpriced. The other thing that set us off was that they force you to pay a 5 dollar extra fee if you want to share/split an entree. We didnt request to have the entree split just to bring two additional plates so that we could share the meal, but this was not possible. Lastly we were told that you could not split the check, which with today's technology should be totally doable and easy to figure out. Overall good place but could improve with simple adjustments.
Terrific food in a come as you are environment
Just left the Drag Brunch, best food and show in Saratoga.
Pretty darn great! Hattie's has been serving beyond excellent Fried Chicken for so long, who can remember. I first visited this establishment around 2008, shortly after I moved to the Capital Region. A friend turned me onto the place, claiming to be the best fried chicken in the Northeast. And I have to say that it was pretty good then, and pretty good now. Good fried chicken aside, and even the fact that they beat Bobby Flay in a food challenge, my hands-down favorite thing at Hattie's is the macaroni and cheese entree. Unfortunately it's only served during the Autumn and Winter seasons. But it's well worth the wait, because they use locally sourced Cheese's, and damn are they good! I recommend ordering the mac and cheese entree as a shared appetizer for the table, and then order your fried chicken main course. Or if it's out of season, just go right for the fried chicken and have some of their to Russia size.
Great chicken and southern dishes! Bloody marys were v small, but the atmosphere is very good!
Best fried chicken around. Other dishes are great too.
Best breakfast
Called yesterday & left a message requesting reservations for this Saturday at noon... no response so I called again today. This time I was told that reservations were only for 6 or more ! I will drop by on Saturday and will update my review , hopefully giving the place more stars.. We have found the Hatties on route 50.to be inconsistent & hope for a better experience in town. UPDATE good fried chicken, grits, lemonade, and beignets . Worth a visit. Just two blocks off Broadway.
The best fried chicken ever.
Cannot find the words to describe the fried chicken at Hattie's. Crispy, moist and flavorful is how I find it. Had the cucumber salad for the first time tonight. It was excellent!
The fried chicken is amazing. The bloody Mary has a lot of horseradish, like pulpy OJ style. I got eggs Benedict and both eggs were over cooked. Service was good even during busy brunch hours. Cool cocktail choices.
Don't get the hype. Few clicks above KFC. Place needs some serious renovation. They are more concerned about customers putting the toilet seat down than keeping the bathroom cleaned.
Awesome food. I went here for Restaurant Week and their food was to DIE FOR! Great place.
Best friend chicken I have had in recent memory. Great environment to enjoy dinner or brunch.
Was there tonight with a large group. Great service and food. They could cook collared greens. Background music was just right. Loved Jasper.
Great food and fun atmosphere.
I went there for brunch with friends with high expectations and lot of enthusiasm, but ended up a little disappointed. My dish (pictured below) had a generous coating of oil/fat at the bottom. It was good and taste was there, but it was nothing exceptional and that grease was upsetting. Friends said the fried chicken was OK, but not worth the hype. I tried one of their waffles and they were average (although they came with a nice side of butter and syrup). I asked for tea and was given a cheap Lipton bag. If there were other options they didn't suggest any and it would be sad not to have them. Points go to the otherwise excellent service. Very courteous and helpful. Be prepared to wait a little to get seated, it can get quite busy.
Great food, fantastic decor, nice prices, short wait for food , clean restrooms
Unbelievably delicious southern comfort food. Great place for brunch. Always make sure to come here if I'm in town for the weekend at SPAC
Absolutely delicious friend chicken. It's exactly as it should be. Crispy, hot, juicy and full of flavor. The ribs were decent as we're their sides. Jambalaya was excellent as well.
Always an amazing meal at Hattie's!
Still a great place for down-home dining. Jasper and crew make Hattie's live on. Casual, yet upscale.
The ambiance and decor is very nicely done. The service was pretty good. The food, however was just plain bad. I was so excited when looking at the menu as there were so many good-looking options. The waitress was very helpful and recommended some combinations that weren't on the regular menu so that we could taste different things. We ended up with a mix of fried chicken, ribs, jambalaya, collards, candied yams, cornbread, and pimento cheese spread. The fried chicken was mediocre and it was the highlight of the meal. The jambalaya was actually bland. I've never had bland jambalaya before. It was as if they opened a #10 can of tomato sauce, threw in some dry shredded chicken, overcooked shrimp, and veggies and called it done. The ribs were burnt, the cornbread was dry and flavorless, the greens were overly sweet and the yams had no depth at all as if they were straight out of the can. Very very disappointed and will steer clear in the future. If advise you to as well.
Love this place! Always leave happy and full. Great drinks, food and service
Little taste of the south nice atmosphere friendly people will be returning
Amazing crispy fried chicken. If you are looking for that home-y feeling with a lot of history. Along with some great playing music with most importantly, that southern soul food.... well Hattie’s is the place to go! Looking forward to going back.
Great service, awesome food, we'll definitely go again!! Jasper the chef most graciously met all of our expectations!
It was okay. Probably decent southern food for upstate NY. The biscuits and gravy were pretty good. The service was okay. I can tell you with authority (having been born and raised in the New Orleans area and lived there most of my life) those were not beignets. They were yummy square donuts, but not beignets.
Every time I go to Saratoga Springs for the NYLA conference I make it a priority to have dinner at Hattie's. The food is very authentic. Whether you get the fried chicken, jerk chicken, mac and cheese you can't go wrong. Legend has it that the chef beat Bobby Flay in a throwdown. I highly recommend.
Well I'm back this time with a local spot in ny. First off Michael has the best customer service a guy could offer. The atmosphere is kinda classy/ not too upscale if that makes sense. It is a nice place that is elegant. I think because of the other places where it sits, one would think is a casual place. But hey dress how you want. As far as the food goes, it was really good. I'm telling you guys the cheese bread as a starter is amazing. There is some type of sweet sauce that comes with it. What ever it is, it's good on the bread. Food wise I had the pecan crusted catfish. Now I did substitute my mashed potatoes for grits. My wife had a pasta dish with lobster in it. (I didn't try it sorry). But seriously folks, I would retrn to this spot if I were out with friends or just me and my Queen again.
I thought I died and went to Heaven. The fried chicken, collard greens, cucumber salad, corn bread, biscuits, fried green tomatoes, stuffed mushrooms, hush puppies are ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE. YOU HAVE GOT TO GO!!!
Good New Orleans food in a historic setting. While the fried chicken is solid, it’s surpassed by other dishes like Mac n cheese (winter only). Don’t overlook enjoyable drinks and a unique Sunday brunch. Hattie’s main problem (if any) is their own popularity. A Saratoga treasure.
Had a group brunch here and had a good meal. Be pretty specific about your order just so there isn't a mistake. Also make sure to ask the portion size. Some are bigger than others so it was a little confusing. The staff was attentive but the tables are a little cramped. Overall, great experience.
We are from Washington State visiting Saratoga Springs and we where told this restaurant was awesome so we decided to give it a try. I called to ask at what time they where closing since it was on a Sunday evening, the person on the phone said they they where closing at 9pm I informed him we where on the way . We got there at 8:45pm. We notice that some of the stuff where not happy that we wanted to eat there . I let them know that I called before getting there and that the person on the phone says assured me that it was fine as long I was there before 9. We got seated. After that our waiter and The bartender were really nice they took care of us the food was delicious I personally don’t like fried chicken but I loved the fried chicken I ate . We were really happy with the service and the food was excellent the drinks were amazing as well I love this learning and how the place looked and the atmosphere was great ! I will definitely recommend you visit this restaurant . I wrote on the bill that we had a good time and I thanked them for the service And for letting us eat there . When we were leaving I went back to the bathroom and I heard that someone read out loud what I work on the bill... that was nice, I also heard that they said that we were very polite so that made me happy.
One of our favorites in Saratoga! Must visit during happy hour. Say hi to Sal! Shrimp appetizers, Hattie's Fried Chicken and Jambalaya are our go to's!
Hatties has a lock on breakfast in Saratoga. Been coming here for years when I'm in town and have never had a poor experience. The food is amazing, great location and great service.
Beat Bobby Flay in a fried chicken throwdown
Chicken like no other ; chef is down to earth personable AmaZing!
Best chicken. I ever had.
Great fried chicken.
Great food and wonderful drinks! Brunch is so good, and we continue to return. I have yet to have something there I don't like. I also cannot recommend higher their mojitos. Hands down the best you'll get in Upstate NY!
Not sure why this place is so popular however the food was good.
Came for brunch with my family. Great atmosphere, customer service and food.
This place had a good looking menu and a perfect vibe for a Sunday brunch. Food was tasty ( once it finally came) but not worth the hassle. The level of incompetence by the staff and the chaos that this caused ruined the whole experience. Servers had no idea where food was going and we were asked at least 6 times if the food in their hand was ours. Server was never around and once some of our party got their food, it took over ten minutes just to flag down waitress in order to have her go find the rest. Even after this food wasn’t complete. Also sat outside under the kitchen window and could just hear the yelling. Took over two hours for brunch. Save yourself some time and try a different restaurant downtown
Relaxing atmosphere to unwind. Friendly service. Truly the most delicious food I have ever tasted. You will not be disappointed no matter your choice: fried chicken, collards, mash, rice and beans--all simply delicious!!
The fried chicken is awesome! Craft beer on tap, delicious sides, loved the collards and hoppin' John were yummy! The people were friendly and the relaxed atmosphere was awesome. Def will return.
Crowded the food was okay . Waitress was nice and the young busser boy was working very hard .
Always Fabulous! Pot roast was perfect
I visited this restaurant with my family and we appreciated the food, the ambiance, and equally important, the hospitality of the manager. I will definitely recommend it to others. The only bump which I find quite hilarious and confusing for such a small town is how can a single piece of chicken leg be sold for $3 or a piece of chicken breast be valued at $4. I've visited many other restaurants including restaurants in Manhattan, NY and the price point for this basic item at Hattie's is simply difficult to understand, unless of course, the chicken was imported from another continent. Besides that, kudos to the cook.
I had the classic fried chicken and it was great. Plenty of food with mashed potatoes, green beans and
Amazing white meat chicken cooked to perfection! Although the sweet tea needs to be sweeter, you'll find a little piece of the South in the strangest places.
Food was great. Had a baby shower here
Standard fried chicken and sides. Nice, but not worth a special trip.
Food was good and spicy. Plenty of shrimp in Shrimp Gumbo. Was pushed for a drink which I did not partake. Service was average and not attentive.
Poor survice we waited for a hour just for drinks
2 words ... Fried Chicken. I dream of it at night . Please ship to Poughkeepsie
Excellent in so many ways! Our new favorite place! Thank you for the Peak Organic beer selection and great food.
Food presentation was great, food tastes good, service was fair plus....took a little bit to get service a couple of times
Excellent food and service! Always my first stop when visiting the Saratoga Springs area.
Always fantastic food?
I don't eat chicken but the fried chicken and waffle was delicious! The chicken had just the right spice in the breading and it was melt in your mouth tender. You can definitely tell is has been brined. No other way to get it so tender. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back for more.
I will try and keep this in perspective. It’s “good” for an attempt at Southern food. I appreciate the effort but nothing tasted authentic to me. You need a new cornbread recipe for sure! I love the atmosphere with the exception of the reggae music. I really want to love this place and I still come here every time I am in SS. That being said...I am always slightly disappointed. The fried chicken tasted more like a KFC knockoff rather than any authentic fried chicken that I have had. Freshness should be the key to any cole slaw or cucumber salad. I still love coming to this place! Keep up the good effort. Also, a guests tea glass should never be empty!
The food is better than the ratings I strongly advise everyone to check it out
Food is delicious. Everyone needs to try her chicken. Yummmmmy
Umm, it was nice. I can tell you all the drama in the young hostesses lives. Literally, almost anything, ask me, I can spill her beans. BUT I'm a reasonable 29 year old woman trying to enjoy local food in her free time.. no worries. Food was generously (grotesquely) salted, flavors were spot on, cups were clean, plates didn't have anything I could pick off with my nails & the greens are out of this world. Being a local for all my life I hadn't expected anything less, I could always expect more though. Thanks for "blowing" me away, still way better than any type of meal in Lake George, that's something to be proud of, right?
My wife and I loved it! Definitely will be back !
It was delicious. Only problem i didn't get my cornbread. Little disappointed.
Love the spicy fried chicken to the menu.
Best fried chicken ever!! I have been many many times for dinner and it's always amazing. For a birthday celebration I decided to try the brunch. I had never tried chicken and waffles and was interested....I couldn't stop eating. It was so good. Also the mimosas are delicious. Hattie's is always the #1 place I recommend to people visiting the area!!
Hattie’s was a fantastic end to a great day. The staff, setting and atmosphere were excellent. Attentive without hovering. We enjoyed the catfish and chicken dinners that were generous proportions. Oh my! I have enjoyed fried chicken all throughout the south to include Louisiana and this was by far the best ever. Tender, moist and crispy with excellent seasoning yet not greasy. Enjoy a tast of the islands in Saratoga.
If you love fired chicken this you'll love this joint. Homemade recipe fried chicken all day every day. There are other good options too which are less heavy but it's extremely carb-centric
If you want the South in the North, then look no further! Great food and atmosphere!
Yummy southern food! I had the fried catfish.
Salty chicken, salty side dishes, too sweet collard greens. If Popeyes could only master the crust. But comfortable place to eat.
Normally the food is amazing I don't know if they've changed chefs or they've changed where they've your supplier. But the last couple of times the food is not up to par the eggs were very good but the chicken fried steak had absolutely no flavor was very fatty. And the gravy was cold and had absolutely no flavoring whatsoever was tasting like water.
