We dinned there last night. Very quaint, super clean setting. Nice gray leather cushioned back seating. It took 20 minutes after being seated , before the waitress would come back to our table to get a drink order. The table was set to French perfection, with a nice crisp table cloth, glasses, and nice flatware. The wine pour was good, only one chard on the list that was by the glass. The Escargo was bland, lacked garlic. The black dish it was served in also looked unappetizing . The scallop entree came only with 3, a fourth would be better for the price. The mussels were excellent. And the steak , which was on the small side, was done to perfection. The French fries were good, made there, but short little fries. One big miss was the bread. It was very chewy. I really was hoping for a nice soft French baguette. And for a French restaurant , a few basic things would have made a big difference with the ambiance. Like some French music. There was no music for the first hour we were there. Then some soft American music came on. Also none of the wait staff spoke any French. Even just having the host say " bonjour!" Would have been a nice touch. The chef did send out a little sample of green soup, which was ok. The desserts were excellent, all made there, and made to perfection.

Beautiful and delicious food made with high quality ingredients, masterfully crafted cocktails with perfect balance of flavor, and Laurence, our waitress, is always friendly and knowledgeable with great recommendations. Gluten free options are available and special requests can be accommodated. A hidden gem off church street. Highly recommended.

Best place in Burlington to eat if you want a finely prepared, filling meal with unusual, delicate and interesting flavor. High touch service without high high prices, and a lively atmosphere for family gatherings with quiet spaces for romantic dinners as well. Nice to still have a place to go that hasn't succumbed to the small plates trend!

Adding this place to my relatively short list of “special occasion” restaurants in the Champlain Valley. Great service, inspired and unique dishes, satisfying portions. Not cheap, but worth every penny!

mjeb90

Excellent food and reasonable prices. If you're from out of town this is definitely worth venturing a couple blocks away from Church St to dine here. The chef truly takes pride in his work.

Michael O'Hara

Great restaurant! We had the prix fixe dinner, and everything was excellent - food, wine and service.

Lonnie VanZandt

An upscale dining experience conveniently outside the overcrowded Church Street plaza.

Monika Agnello

the perfect meal.

Went there with friends for my wife's birthday. I ordered escargot as I always have this appetizer when I eat in a French restaurant. Good as always, really appreciate they cut the bread to the size that you can dip the sauce inside the hole on the iron. My main dish was steak frites. Again good but lack that wow effect. Still like the charcoal burn favor on the steak.

My wife and I tried the Bistro de Margot on august the 16th 2017. We both are epicureans and we love food as much as we love life. We have visited our lot of restaurants and amongst them were some great and renowned tables, but we never had a perfect experience. Most of the times, we felt like we could have done at least a little better at home for half of the price. Then we went to the Bistro de Margot. We immediatly loved the place. It was beautiful, very clean, the staff were professional and caring... We had a very good feeling and we were not dissapointed. The food was amazing. We had well dressed plates, perfect matching flavors, quality ingredients and portions were also perfect. All of our senses were highly stimulated. The pricing was also right on the mark if not a little low for the quality of our experience. And on the top of all this, the head chef Hervé Mahé came to our table to inquire about our experience. He is such a nice person it was a pleasure and an honor to talk to such a gifted chef. It was our first visit to his restaurant, but you can be sure we will come back as soon as possible even if it's a 3 hours trip from Canada. We can't wait to taste chef's Hervé other masterpieces.

Amazing French bistro in the heart of Burlington.

Food is excellent. Atmosphere is a bit loud and could use some sound dampening. Wish they'd also enforce a no baseball hats for men to keep it classier.

It's so nice to go to an actual date night restaurant. The prices are the same as at any of the other decent restaurants in town, but instead of having a casual sure come on in with your jeans and t-shirt vibe, it feels like a restaurant for grownups and actually has tablecloths.

Food, service, and ambiance we're great!

Incredible food. Chef comes out and ask how your meal is and really cares about the way people experiences his food. If you have the means because it is a bit pricey, I highly recommend it. Very delicious!

Helen Labun

Perfectly prepared, wonderful food and the oxtail starter... That may be the best thing I've ever eaten.

Monika Flagg

We had a wonderful anniversary dinner here! Special thanks to servers Margot and Natalia for their excellent attention to detail and friendly customer service. They made great menu and wine recommendations and helped us have a perfect dining experience! We had the duck and the steak frites and both were cooked perfectly and we finished every bite.

Bob Catlin

We have visited for several special occassions. Food is superb. Great selection of dishes that are well cooked and nicely presented. Many with local ingredients. Very good wine list. Atmosphere is formal but not stuffy. Service is professional but friendly. Terrlfic wine list. Chef/owner spends a lot of time out front asking every guest how their experience is. Makes us want to come back. Only wish we could afford to more often.

French fine cuisine the real deal, done with art. A beautiful white room of minimal decor, tall windows beautifully letting in natural light, soft music offering French delights like Benjamin Biolay — all that as the perfect chic yet unpretentious setting for the most delicious dishes. Entrées (description in the photos) were impeccable, as was service, very professional and yet friendly. From the desserts, a cliché such as the crème brûlée was not just another one of many we’ve had in French restaurants — but simply one of the best! Wish desserts had a better presentation, though. Chef Hervé came to our table for a quick chat and to receive well deserved compliments. Our best experience in Burlington.

The food was fabulous. The chef came out and personally greeted us and took our kids back to see how the food was prepared. A wonderful dining experience!

This is an excellent French restaurant. Service is professional and enjoyable. The scollop entry is especially unique and dilicious. New restaurants often come and go. However, my wife and I believe this one will be successful over time. Dan, Boston

Very impressed by the service, which was impeccable and very professional throughout. The food was was very good, but I will return again to try the other dishes before commenting further. 100% real French cuisine cooked by a real French Owner/Chef, Herge, who came out to meet us. Some modern twists that seemed a little unfamiliar to me. The chef is clearly making an effort to provide a top quality experience, so that should be taken as a positive sign.

One word: WOW! One of the best meals we've ever had! The service was amazing, the Head Chef even came out a few times to talk to us about our meals and how it was prepared. HIGHLY recommend and will definitely be returning the next time we're visiting Burlington!

Elegant, authentically French restaurant in downtown Burlington. The food is outstanding and the service immaculate. The chef-owner comes into the dining room and greets the customers individually and asks for their feedback. What a special treat this place is!

Good quality food, though a bit overpriced for what it was. I was expecting to be wowed and instead got middle-of-the-road gastropub fare. Tasty and uninspired. Subpar coffee from a Nespresso coffee machine.

I was advised by the couple sitting outside the restaurant that this was the best French place in town, with a real French chef, so my group came in for dinner. It was very good, all four of us were satisfied. The salad nicoise was delicious, and the beggars purse had such intense flavor. Service was very nice, there was a minor spill of wine and we all received a glass of a wonderful champagne in compensation. Creme brulee was textbook, chocolate mousse was a little sweet but still good. I definitely recommend this place.

Before I even touch on how decadent the food was, I’d like to acknowledge Samantha, our server - hands down THE BEST waitstaff experience I’ve ever encountered. Her recommendations did not disappoint, she was knowledgeable (not only about the food, but the Burlington area), she was incredibly kind, and if it had been possible to recruit her as my husband and I’s Tour Guide for the remainder of our trip, I surely would have. A+++, Samantha! The food is pricey, but the quality and skill apparent in every dish makes it worth every penny. I ordered the scallops and I was blown away. Perfectly cooked, enourmous scallops.I even ate the one little beet on my plate, and I hate beets. Should I return to Burlington in the future, I will certainly be back. *edit* And how could I forget!? The Chocolate mousse! The dessert Samantha said she could “write love poems” about. Absolutely fantastic. I will dream of this dessert for years to come.

This is the best place in Burlington for dinner. Amazing food, drinks, service, and chef.

Bistro de Margot offers a refined dining experience and excellent French wine list in downtown Burlington. The amuse bouche was a delightful pea soup that was perfectly balanced. The fish appetizer was forgettable and apparently already off the menu. As far as the mains, we were impressed with the soupe de poisson, grilled lamb chops, and magret de canard. Unfortunately, we found the Halibut to be dry. The peach tart and accompaniments were delicious while the creme brulee was rather ordinary. Notably, the chef came to personally greet all of the tables except ours, which hopefully was an honest mistake.

What a delightful experience we had at the Bistro. Our server Lo was very warm and friendly and extra attentive. From start to finish the food was superb and just right portion size. A visit from the Chef was the cherry on top. Don't miss out on this wonderful dining experience

Anyone that would ever say anything negative about this place is just the one in the bunch that can never be satisfied. This place is 5 star dining at the greatest. Chef here really knows about the food and cares so much. The food prepared with outstanding care. Very knowledgeable chef I really respect the way you do things. This place is a gem

This is a tough review to write because the reality is I'm holding this place to a different standard than let's say McDonald's. If I go to McDonald's and get crapy service or crappie food ... no biggie.. that's probably par for course. But this kind of restaurant where you pay for parking in a baby sitter… it's a $200 event ...I expect something amazing... I did not get amazing.. Granted it was better than McDonald's and better than applebee's. But it was not amazing. My fish tasted like it had been frozen... no bueno.... My salad was a 5 star salad but my main course was very disappointing.... Then there was the service... I seriously felt neglected by the server... Like I had to hunt her down to get something.... And the wait time between courses was a bit rough lots of downtime waiting for the next plate... To be fair I will go back again and try it out but 1st time was not impressive

The French cuisine gem of Burlington restaurant scene, tucked away from the business of Church street. The chef is constantly changing the menu, so every visit comes with a surprise. The choices are inventive yet classic, and the execution is flawless each time we come. The decor is fresh, contemporary and unpretentious. The staff is helpful and polite.

Heavenly: A Modern Journey of Classic Taste Every visit to Bistro de Margot is a delightful experience, especially when you know what to expect. Our last night's dinner was no exception. An elegantly casual setting is extremely inviting, the staff is professional yet warm and friendly, and the menu conquers your taste buds before you even get a chance to sample all those French-titled wonders. It's an extremely accessible establishment without a snooty pseudo-French attitude (think Chez Paul in Blues Brothers, the movie). As owners of a Modern Vermont Bed & Breakfast in Shelburne (who love to provide guidance and local advice to our guests), we personally experience every restaurant we recommend. Everything we tried last night was heavenly: freshly made duck terrine, chilled pea soup (soupe glacée de petits pois sounds so much more poetic in French!), the Niçoise, and the striped bass. A seasonal blueberry tart and Crème Brûlée (with a nice candied orange peel twist) sweetened the sorrow of having to say au revoir. Till soon!

We had an awesome dinner on Saturday night at Bistro de Margot: This place is faultless, excellent service, comfortable atmosphere and perfect food ! The scallops were really succulent, excellent quality of the products, and the cooking just perfect. The side dishes were full of flavors. My friend had fish, it was perfect also. My other friend tried the vegetarian dish, it was very tasty. the Tarte au citron and the Mousse au chocolat desserts were better than in France, We had a not very expensive white wine (can't remember the name), perfect with our dinner. We appreciated the Chef's visit, had a nice talk with us about the products and the cooking. We will be back soon, definitely !!

Venture one minute walk south of Church Street to find this hidden gem. One of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. The inviting space is quiet, elegant and has lots of natural light. The staff were the perfect balance of friendly and helpful, but professional and unobtrusive. The food impeccably prepared with skillfully blended flavors. Reading the menu I thought the flavors might be a little simple for my preference, but that was not the case at all. My initial disappointment at seeing the cream of mushroom soup come out as a puree without any meaty mushroom chunks went away at first taste. It was decadent and creamy with a rich mushroom flavor accented by a few drops of parsley oil and parsley, and yet somehow not overly heavy. The pork belly had a perfect sear and melted in my mouth with no hint of chewy fat, accompanied by a richly flavored braising jus reduction and lentils. Every dish impressed us. Fantastic dining experience.
