REVIEWS OF Bearded Frog IN Vermont

I had a great steak and my husband had shrimp pasta. We both loved our dishes.

Bearded Frog has been our go to restaurant for special events or when entertaining out of town friends for a number of years. We had not been there in a while and went recently for a Birthday. Not sure what has happened but the quality we’ve grown to except was sadly missing. Our meals were mediocre to say the least and disappointing. However, service was good. We won’t be returning.

I actually wasn't sure what to expect before we ate here but was completely blown away by the food. The execution of the dishes was very well thought out and unique. Wife and I were both very pleased with our meals and of course, our accompanying drinks.

Super Disappointed! I had heard great things about this place and was excited to finally try it. I ordered the sausage and cheddar stuffed chicken and my husband ordered the burger. Both were over cooked and dry. The chicken was sitting in a sauce that was completely overpowered by the taste of hops. We ended up just sharing the burger and they comped us the chicken dish(very cool of them), but I don't think we will be back. Prices were a bit high for what they offered.

The atmosphere was great and our waitress was wonderful. We had the scallops and venison rolls to start. The venison was great! The maple dipping sauce that came with it was mouthwatering. The scallops were good, but the sauce that came with them was pretty bland. The bacony lentils that came with them were amazing though. For entrees we had the duck, beef tenderloin, and lamb meatball stroganoff. The beef was very good, but nothing on the plate left a lasting impression on me. The duck was honestly a little under done (for my taste) and again nothing on the plate really impressed me. My favorite dish was the lamb meatball stroganoff. The meatballs were juicy and delicious, and the stroganoff sauce had a wonderfully strong flavor and savory mouth feel. All in all, we had a great time and enjoyed the food, but I was left feeling that I could have made most of the dishes myself at home (with more flavor notes) for a fraction of the price.

Amazing cocktails. The bartender had created the cocktails, including making her own infusions and liqures. They are all increadable.

Granny Grampy

Delightful! Our waitress was charming, attentive, and efficient. The food was out of this world (I had the stuffed chicken and my wife had the blackend catfish) - delicious. Large portions. We ate on the deck and watched the sun set. They do a great job, and we look forward to coming back.

Still dreaming of their Waldorf salad...

Dark and cozy bar with an amazing burger. Restaurant is a great staple of the Village.

Edmond Horsey

We have never been so insulted as we were at this otherwise pleasant restaurant. The food was good. The service was attentive. But after a glass of white for Molly, a cocktail for me and a shared bottle of red (half of which we didn't finish and are bringing back to our motel), the bartender refused to pour us a cognac with which to enjoy our sorbet. This dispute the fact that WE WERE NOT DRIVING. And so we wait for our Lyft!

Possibly my favorite restaurant. The venison cigar roles have become a staple of our visits. Not once have I had a bad meal/experience at The Bearded Frog!

The burgers here are the best. The amboniance is great, and the servers are friendly. The mixed drinks are great. Definitely recommend

One of best burgers I've ever eaten. A little spendy, (it's Shelburne after all!) Very enjoyable.

I really wanted to love it. They made me probably the best root veggie soup, far better than what competing restaurants make with their unnecessary apple and maple. The Waldorf salad was perfectly dressed, cheese added to the flavor and it was spectacular. Why three stars then? Their menu is strange, with a split between being a very expensive burger joint and a finer entree menu. Their burger was cooked to a correct medium rare, quite good. At least as good as anywhere in Burlington. I trusted the menu and ordered a haddock curry despite concerns that a place that specializes in neither curries nor fish might not have a strong dish. I tried very hard to eat it but I could taste only coconut. It was so unpleasant. My companion couldn't eat it either. Waste of food. Told the server, politely, that I just couldn't eat it. The restaurant comped me for my sorbet dessert (which I frankly wouldn't have ordered at all if I had been able to eat my entree). My sorbet was frozen solid but tasted pretty good. It was served to me in a glass with a soup spoon, a bit tricky to eat, which might be hard for some people but I didn't mind. The flourless cake was excellent and quite rich. I bought a voucher for this restaurant from localvore for a local charity which gave me a $20 discount here. If I had paid full price I don't think I would have been happy paying $23 plus tax and tip for what amounted to wastebasketed dinner. If I return I'll probably eat appetizers only and skip entrees until their menu is a bit stronger or if I'm in the mood for burgers. Not to throw shade, I think these folks really know how to cook, but could benefit from editing the entree menu (salmon? rack of lamb?) or leaving off the curried haddock, I mean, maybe it's the only bad item? Great appetizers, lovely atmosphere. But I just can't recommend this as strongly as wish I could.

The Bearded Frog is the go-to place for dinner in Shelburne. Views on the deck are good (from downtown!) and needless to say, the food, specials, wine, and service are excellent. A must go place if you haven't dined in Shelburne before. Call ahead for a reservation Fridays or Saturdays as it can get busy.

Catherine Berry

A wonderful restaurant with great atmosphere in Shelburne. The food was very good, the service prompt and attentive. From the Venison Cigar Rolls, to the Pork Rib Eye and the Bacon and Plum Stuffed Chicken, it was all very tasty. The savory Banana Chive quick bread was also surprisingly good. Sounds unusual, it is, but very good. Deserving of a visit while in Shelburne!

Max Ernst

Pretty good, but better options in Burlington.

Jim Robinson

Great restaurant, pork loin roast was to die for. Fried corn bread salad, excellent.

Went here for our anniversary. The food was okay. Traditionally we order a nice bottle of Rioja; asked the manager about the one on the menu and she said it was a reserva so we ordered it. After the first glass was poured didn't think it tasted like a reserva, so double checked the label (you have to know the Rioja color code system; it doesn't always say on the bottle) and sure enough it was a joven. Let the manager know and she did not offer to make it right or anything. A joven should definitely not cost $50 so that was a disappointing footnote to our anniversary; with all the other great options in the Champlain Valley, won't be going out of our way to come back here.

Patrick Berkeley

We've been here a few times over the years and previously the food has been of decent quality. On our latest visit we ordered the trout, duck, tofu salad, and an order of fries. The sides for the trout were not fresh and tasted like something from a cafeteria. The duck was cooked unevenly, ranging from medium rare to raw. The greens on the salad were wilted to the point they seemed rotten, and the tofu was quite overcooked. The fries seemed like they were from Sysco. We spoke to the server about the duck and the salad. She said (as she was clearing and looking down at the uneaten salad) "it's quite possible that's true about the greens." And for the duck, "we cook it medium rare and don't remove the fat like some restaurants." To make up for it, they comped the fries. It seems like the Bearded Frog is having an identity crisis. For $23, the sides on the trout should taste fresh. For $27, the duck should be cooked properly. For $17, the greens on the salad should be fresh and the tofu not dried out. There is a mismatch between what the pricing and dishes suggest about what's offered and the actual quality of the food. If they want to just offer burgers and pub fair, that's fine, but lower the prices and take the fancier dishes off the menu.

The restaurant was dirty. The cushions on the chairs had stains all over them, the curtains had visible dust collected between folds and my bread plate had something crusty stuck to it. The food itself was less than impressive. The duck confit appetizer was good and the sweet potato fries perfectly crisp with a nice seasoning but that was it. The stuffed pretzel appetizer was dry and the sour cream dip that came with it was spoiled. My burger was burned and crispy on the outside and my boyfriends duck burger was made from chunks of duck meat rather than ground duck.

This is one of the more upscale restaurants in the area. I always really enjoy the food. The atmosphere is very cozy, great for an outing with your spouse. Please leave the kids at home though :-).

Great food and a warm atmosphere! Good place for a nice date night!

Cameron Hay

Very nice restaurant. Great for a romantic night out. Their seasonings and red meat is delicious. I highly recommend the calamari appetizer! For the amount of food you get, the prices are quite high but the taste is wonderful (which therefore explains the price!). When I went, my party did not try dessert but it looked wonderful. The service was very good but reservations are a good idea.

Lovely cozy ambiance, delicious food and great service! My date got the duck and it was probably the most perfectly cooked duck I've seen in a restaurant! I had the filet and naturally it was also wonderful. For dessert we shared the flourless chocolate cake. I'm automatically skeptical of a "flourless" cake for fear it will be trying to emulate the texture of a standard cake. This wasn't that - it was a fantastically thick, rich, bittersweet chocolatey wedge with an amazing strawberry Grand Marnier sauce and fabulous almond toffee... bark situation. Oh my god. SO GOOD.

Food was superb, nice beers on tap and some tasty cocktails. All the staff were very friendly and helpful despite there being two power outages during the evening due to thunderstorms. The bar keeper was hilarious and actually had knowledge and interest in the drinks he was serving. I really enjoyed the decor and dim lighting. Definitely go here again given the chance.

Karolyn Charland

We ate dinner here on restaurant week the food was not good at all, not much flavor in cassoulet , canned tomatoes with white beans that had not absorbed any flavor with a lot of dry herbed bread crumbs a lot and nothing was cooked properly from the duck to dry hard cookies. Very disappointed we had heard good things about the food. The service was great, she noticed I wasn’t eating and offered another meal on the menu and again nothing was cooked properly. We will not be going back! Very poor food preparation especially for price!
