REVIEWS OF Al's French Frys IN Vermont

Burgers were solid and reasonably priced. It was somewhat limited on condiments (no hot sauce) but otherwise was a solid experience. Also have great corn dogs, which can be hard to find. Good local joint with some local flair, worth checking out.

Mara S.

I love that they have a dedicated fryer for their fries, so people with food allergies can still enjoy them!

Damon Brink

Very few 5 stars but this one is as good as it gets for what it is. Cheap, delicious hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries. All prepared to order, quickly and professionally. If you want some good ole greasy greatness, go here and eat. They have serious creemees in the summer

Athena L

Fun burger joint with tasty food. Good amount of crispy bacon on my juicy bacon cheeseburger. Onion rings were hot a delicious. Black and white with red vinyl booths.

Valerie W

A staple that blows away McDonalds. A family favorite. Cheap, fast even when there are lines and good food.

Bryanna Requarth

I am a huge fry fan so I was so excited to find this place. We went through the line very quickly and there was plenty of seating. The fries were HUGE! The cheese sauce is your standard cheese sauce but very tasty. My boyfriend ordered a hamburger and said that it is your typical at home hamburger; not amazing but not the worst. I had the fried chicken. It was very dry and over cooked. All in all because I'm obsessed with fries I would come again but only to order those.

Chris Allen

The quintessential 50s style burger and famous fries joint.

Amy Del Prete

This famous and popular Burger Diner is great as an alternative to fast food. Inexpensive menu featuring, burgers dogs and fries. Done in 60s decor with a very busy and efficient staff.

I always love this place they should open one in every town

Harvey Klein

Great fries tasty hot.dogs.good value for the money

Peter Loomis

It was good. Food was fresh and hot. Next time I'm going to order the double burger.

Gi Grape

The food is great and it is cooked fast☺

Kristin Darby

Al's is a local icon for Vermonters! Amazing fries and grilled food makes for a great fast-food lunch or dinner! Many of the staff have been around a long time, making it feel familiar and friendly. Great food at good prices! And bonus points for offering non-dairy creemees!

valarie walter

The ambiance of this restaurant is wonderful! If you want fries and a sandwich, this is the place. Not a ton of healthy food (a plus or a minus depending on how you feel about this)

Merrikay Baxendale

Been enjoying Al’s since the 60’s. Best ever

Deanna Russell

Huge disappointment As a kid through adulthood, this was the best " Fry's" around. Past 10 years or so, it's definitely not been the greatest past few years even worse. Now, it down right stinks. Third strike, ya outta here.

Devin Grasso

Nothing to rave home about, but it was tasty. Had chili cheese dogs w/onion and large fry. Might be my preference but the onion amount was light. Chili was good. Tasted similar to manwich with some other flavors, and enough liquid to moisten and bind the beef. Fries were fresh cut, double fried. Best type

J C

Not good! Fry's had no taste, hamburger was bland and small. Maple Creemee at I've cream shop had no flavor nor did the raspberry Creemee.

Patrick Donahue

Good fill you up food.

Bill Heywood

Is always a good time at Al's good food at a reasonable price

Tyler Keefe

Been coming here since I was a little kid. Always has been a great place to come with a fun old diner feel to it. Best french fries with vinegar, and creamies in town!

Veronica Campion

Fun for the kids! Great prices

Jelly Beans

Very good for cheap fast food. The only thing is that the meal portions are very small, so I would order a "double" or order 2 meals per person. The ice cream is terrific though.

Kathy Connolly

A Burlington area legacy. Always good, always fun. Kids of all ages enjoy Al's.

Craig Colburn

A convenient place for the whole family including the dog (for feeding in the car)! Not the value it once was, but great nostalgia. Their employees seem to be happy and most stay on, so if increased prices are an investment in their people, we can live with that.

Nicholas poirier

My family and I have been coming to this location for years. The quality has never changed, the place has always been cleaned well and everyone here is very polite. The restaurant has a very 50s 60s feel to it, which is something you don't see much of. Al's is almost a historical location for the area and people around here.

Auruddha Antaneel

As long as there are Americans who love living in the past, Al's will do just great. This place has made no improvement in processes for years. The food is at best mediocre except the fries. The soft serve comes frozen. I wonder how it gets such high foot traffic except for it being close to the senior homes.

Jonah Faulkner

Right next to a McDonald's and this place is Jam Packed almost all hours of every day. This place is cheap fast food but it's a local business! Delicious if greasy goodness is what you're going for.

Batoon Gaming

Very authentic diner with staff moving at a very efficient pace. French fries were phenomenal, and hamburgers are very tasty.

Anton Nekhai

What a quaint little place!!! The diner has the vibe of a 50s diner in the 70s! The food is fantastic as well, full of typical American fare like burgers, fries, seafood, cheese steaks and more. I highly recommend the fried clams and you can never go wrong ordering the burgers. Prices are also very cheap with a giant meal costing around ten bucks. Surely not a place to miss in the Burlington area!!

marque1313

It seems Al's has been around for many years. After visiting I now know why. All food is cooked to order. Everything we ordered was prepared well and tasted awesome. They also have an ice cream window out front. If you are in the area definitely stop at Al's.

Jacob Allen

If I could give Al’s 10 stars I would. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve been to Al’s more than a hundred times. Every time I go the food is just as delicious as ever. The creemees have gotten a bit pricey but I would still highly recommend!

Hannah DiMaria

Taste of great have good foods french fried, hotdog etcs.. and have good taste ice cream! :)

Sabrina Milano

Fries are good! Was not happy that the stand and restaurant don't serve the same flavor shakes. My first time there and was eager to taste the maple shake. I didn't have cash and minimum $5 on card. Fries are only made inside, but maple shake only outside. Tried the fries, but no shake. Was very disappointed especially when both places share the kitchen.

Max S

Their French Fries are so good! I don't know how they do it - best in town. Also best cremees

Russ Barrett

Always great fries! Corn dogs good, regular cheeseburger ok, but not great.

Annemarie Edwards

I don't know how they do it. It was busy. They got our order quick and with no errors. They rock!

Donna Burdick

Whenever I come to Burlington my son brings me here. I love this place.

TDU Clan

Quick friendly ordering, ample seating and ice cream for after. I will say, creemee prices increased this year, I was surprised to see the small at over $3

Maranda Nielson

Al's is the best. Great burgers and fries. They also have delicious ice cream!

Rowan Livingston

Their burgers are a touch small, but they're pretty good, especially for the price!

Jake McGinnis

My all time favorite burger joint. Obviously the fries are amazing. Everything is super cheap and in the summer they have a great creemee stand. This place is a Vermont legend.

Craig Peplin

Great fries. Dont get the large shake youll float away. Its HUGE!!!

Huguens Alexis

Good place for a quick bite to eat. Inexpensive, service in relatively fast and they serve classic American diner food.

Jack Patterson

Loved loved it.... It was our grandkids first visit there with us.... The food was great and the kids actually finished what was ordered for them.... Unfortunately it had been raining so the playground was too wet to play in.... But we will be back with them at another time....

Tracey Phelps

Had a great meal with my family there. Everyone was reminiscing about good times at Al's for over 30 years. Aunt Gayle thinks the chili is way spicier, but we all liked it.

John Hawkins

Their burgers and fries are on point for an American greasy grill experience. For food alone I'd give em a 4 star rating. Yet they earned a 3 star. My only issue is 2.07 for a soda with no free refills. That's pretty much trash.

Noah Siddall

Al's is a bit blown out of proportion. It's a staple for visitors to the area, with a classic diner feel, and there is a good selection of food. The co-operated seasonal ice cream stand is good; arguably the best part. What I don't like is the food/price ratio. The portions remind me of what I received in elementary school, and the prices reflect regular-sized burgers. Essentially, you're paying for the experience on top of the food, and to me, it's not worth it. So if you're a visitor, it's something to check off your list. But after you've gone once, you're better off going somewhere else.

Jefre Palmer

Avoid at all cost. Al's is a juxtaposition of Steak&Shake, a reclaimed 50's diner, and Five-Guys... except with less selection and nothing novel for their brand. Burgers were $3 for a plain jane dinner roll size sandwich and anemic patty. The fries were large cut russet with no seasoning. The base patronage was 50+, which may explain the lack of flavoring of core ingredients. Ordering is cattle call and queue (very theme park feel). The best part of the Al's experience is the cashier Shannon, who was very polite and a great salesperson. It's only novelty is some historic presence. There are plenty of other pricey eateries in Burlington which could better serve the money you would spend at Al's.

Katie Bollman

Amazing Food, Service $ Prices!! Our go to spot

Nicole Conley

Greasy, but okay tasting, medium quality food. Okay prices

Michael Sloane

Excellent no frills food. Throw back to roadside food stop. It worth the trip from anywhere.

Margo Thayer

If you haven't been to Al's can you really say you're a Vermonter??! I don't think so. This place is a real gem. I've been stuffing my face with their incredible goodies for over 30 years. It just doesn't get any better than Al's. Kudos to them for killing it for so long. I'd honestly be lost without this place!

Greg DeCristofaro

Nice diner style hot dog and hamburger shop with great fries and low prices. Very crowded (even at 2:30 on a rainy Tuesday afternoon) with a variety of types of people. Good burgers and hot dogs.

Gabriel S

Food was amazing! Incredibly fast

Walter Graham

Than ks to a Google Map suggestion we stopped here. First time in the local landmark. Cashier was very good about explaining the background of the place and how many years (decades) each employee had been there. Of course I ordered the burger and fries. Both were delish and the burger was just the right size - a bit bigger than a slider and smaller than a quarter pounder. Excellent taste. Worth the stop!

My Hanitizer

A local gem and offers great vibes and decent food. Prices are a plus and the locals are right to celebrate it and so glad we were told about it by the local chocolate place. I feel the food is basic and the buns lack local exciteming flavors but then again this is meant to be part of the old fashioned charm.

Judy Hinson Carroll

This place was recommended as a local fave. So we checked it out while in town. It was packed so we thought they must have good food. Not the case. Beware if you order the pizza burger it doesn't actually resemble a pizza in any way. There is no marinara or pizza toppings included. It is a stangely preseasoned patty they claim to be pizza-flavors. Fail. We had to try the fries but they disappointed also. The fried chicken was also something I could've done without. We do not recommend.

Bryan Dooley

An iconic burlington restaurant. It is the cheapest meal you can get in town and still want to eat. Fries are always a great choice. Has an icecream stand also

Charlie McDonald

Great food and quick even with the lines of people. Definitely a place I'll go back to.

Kathryn Lemay

Very fast service. Takes UVM catscratch

Emily Sorensen

Fun burger & fries joint. Family friendly. Affordable.

Thomas Thayer

Excellent cheeseburgers, excellent french fries; maybe even better than Wendy's.

Sean Leonardi

A Burlington classic. A box of little burgers and fries is never a bad call. Great for a quick lunch stop or a late night munchie nosh.

Paul J

Randomly hit this place, probably the best fast-ish food I've ever had. Everything is made to order and quite tasty.

michael pryor

I grew up living right down the street from thi place. The owner and employees a like are very welcoming and the food is incredible. Everytime I eat here I am brought back to my childhood.

Leonard and Jacqueline Bostwick

It always is the same. Thankfully you can count on that. Never disappoints

Erik Bjorge

Fun environment. Play structure out back was great for the kids. Food was good.

Elizabeth Rhea

I love Al's!! I grew up going to Al's with my family and Friends! This place has provided me with many good memories. I recently moved to DC and wish I could have taken Al's with me! Every time I'm back home I go! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would! You can't go wrong with the food here. The staff is friendly as well. I recommend it to everyone who I meet that has never been!!

Anthony Commo

Do you like french fries and cheese burgers? Of course you do. You wouldn't be reading this otherwise. Al's is a Burlington area institution that's been in business since... Well I don't actually know but I think we were still at war with nazism at the time. The food is great, and it's made to order as you stand in line. It's super affordable and on average seems to cost less than national fast food chains like the McDonald's next door. Try it, you won't be disappointed... Unless you don't like french fries and cheese burgers.

Douglas Mann

Food was excellent and prices were great. We will be going back!

Kurt Howard

Great local place in Burlington for burgers, hotdogs and fries. Simple menu but some great choices with affordable prices. Restaurant is always packed but line moves quick and plenty of seating inside. Excellent chili cheese dogs with fries is a can’t miss.

Anita Carton

I always love coming to l's. They have a wide ready of food from she's burgers to chili dogs too chicken tenders and of course they have their famous fries. Their milkshakes are really good but unfortunately they're way too pricey so I opt out many times when coming here.... But it's nice to get as a treat once in a while. If you want a cheap dinner as long as you stick to just the food and you don't buy a drink it's totally worth it!!!! Thier drink pricing is outrageous and they kinda ought to be ashamed for that....just my opinion!!!! XO

Shelly Tinker

Friendly quick service great frys old school look

AJ Grimaldo

A staple of Vermont. Great food, friendly staff, and good prices. Everyone should try their delicious food.

Bonnie Swiniarski

Great fries, would like to see condiments put out for customer to use rather than having to ask for.

Bridget Galindez

Great family place, awesome alternative to gross chain fast food places!!

Justin Michaud

As a Vermont native I have to go back whenever I visit. I'm a fan of the speciality creemees!!!! One of my favorite places in the Burlington area

William Taylor

Tasty burgers and fresh hot fries. Fast service despite the crowd.

Mel Allen

Al's French Frys is a classic burger joint. I've been going since I was pretty young and my kids have been going here since my oldest was in single digits. Great French 'frys' here, the burgers are small but good, the ice cream and desserts (mainly in the summer as it's the Northeast) are great. Definitely worth stopping in!

g k

Good quick pit stop, very tasty dog but the fries, while yummy, are super salty.

Justin Holmes

Great little burger joint with a classic 50s feel. Prices are really low and food is fast and great. What's not to love.

Joanne Turano

great fast food place

Richard Rolston

My first time ever going to this restaurant, and I was brought back in time to the 50's and 60's era. The atmosphere was very family oriented . It felt like I should of gone to a sock hop before stopping in for soft serve ice cream, burger, fries and a soft drink. They have the black and white checkered floor, red vynl booth seats and the era's music to match. You order a hot dog, burger, real chicken sandwhich, then at the station they put your meal together, that where they ask what you want for condiments. *** It is extra for lettuce, tomato, that type of topping, so make sure if you want that to tell them at the register.*** The fries are the best, and they have white vinegar at every booth so you can add it to your fries! Love this place, next time I'm bringing the whole family. It's worth the trip across the pond.

Teddie Lynn Lawson

Never had a disappointing experience. Fries are on point and a family favorite. Food is fast and consistent. Good place to grab a quick bite and is kid friendly.

Joseph Kennedy

So freaking awesome. A true original burger joint experience. Fresh quality burgers, fries and shakes. Made to order as you watch. Dogs and fish sandwiches, cheese and chili, and an old school ice cream shop too!

Ted Moore

Completely accidental find. Simply the best french fries in America hands down, no contest. And the burgers are tiny, so don't be fooled by the small prices. Order a bunch, and save your money in some other way.

Jatti Pahn

The burgers are small but flavorful. The fries are yummy and the ice cream is delicious.

Eric Knowlton

I've been here a handful of times and it always seems like it's busy. It definitely has that old school fast food kind of feel without having that bland chain restaurant decor. The food is definitely proceed well and having the ice cream outside really helps to spread out the crowds.

Dennis Gebhardt

Neat experience for a quick bite with the kids. Takes you back 50 years. Simple and no fuss

Christopher Hartigan

Service is fast and straight forward. Classic American diner menu. Burgers are great. Fries are amazing. Gravy is watery. Thicker gravy would be appreciated.

Doug Teator

Love Al's. Good old burgers and fries. Food and service is great and the price you can't beat.

phatstax2011

Al's French Frys is so very much more than just Vermont's premiere fast food restaurant, it's a historic, institution! Al's has a very happy, courteous, and pleasant staff, so unlike most other fast food joints. They must also be a great place to work because I have seen so many of the same faces behind the counter, forever, which is completely unheard of in the fast food biz. Al's also has the most efficient food ordering set up of any restaurant of its kind. Two register lines to order, and you watch your food being cooked as you wait and then they'll ask you what condiments you want just before they wrap it up and serve it to you. They also will expedite your wait if you are only ordering their famous and super delicious "French Frys", which are the best that I've ever had, anywhere.

DEBRA BALLARD

One of the Best local restaurants around! #love #buylocal

KristinaCampbell RecoveryInColor's artist

Food is good American food experience, but the set up was a bit chaotic for my taste

Sebastien Comtois

Great prices and good atmosphere been going here for many years!

Rowena Hardaway

The fries were good. The sandwiches were kinda small for the price.

Darren Rauer

Always have to stop in when I visit. Same taste, same quality, same great frys after all these years.

Tara McClain

The food was hot and fresh. I was not impressed with the chili or fries. Probably because I'm from Texas. The diner was cool though!! Old style charm!!

Sara

Delicious food and great service. Creemees are the best in town! Even when they are busy its never a long wait! Worth the price for sure.

katelyn chambers

Even when the line is long it's quick. Food is always good. People are nice 90% of the time.

Charlie B

Pretty good! Hotdog was great, burger was ok, chili fries good

Nick L

Great burgers fast and cheap, not much more I can say!

Atticus Hopper

Al! Where have you been? I left you so many years ago and my life hasn't been the same since. When I think of my youthful years in Vermont, my love for you is one of my fondest memories. I can still feel the biting salty taste of your beautifully cooked fries and the sugary taste of your shakes sliding down my throat. Al and your french fries are a beautiful thing in this world that can be too serious and too dire. Shine on you mighty diamond!

Stan Payne

Al's French Frys is a locally owned fast food restaurant that have been in business since the late 1940's. They serve the best fast food fries, hands down. They come in cups, pints or quarts and are shareable. The meats are local and are from McKenzie. They serve burgers, hot dogs and chicken and let you put whatever condiments you want on them. They serve Coke products when it comes to beverages. Their service is fast and the food gets to you right away as soon as they're cooked. They can get pretty busy at times, but their service are still pretty fast. In the summer months, they do serve creemees (soft serve) and hard ice cream. The flavors they have for creemees are: chocolate, vanilla, chocolate/vanilla mix, blackberry, maple and (sometimes) strawberry. They have all the common flavors for hard ice cream. You can order a sundae or even a banana split. Stop by at Al's French Frys today amd you won't be disappointed.

Chris Webb

Great staff. Fantastic burgers and fries. During summer they have a walk-up ice cream service outside the main restaurant. Their hard ice cream is Blue Bunny, so not impressed. Creemee s are good, not great.

M GO

Fries were quite un impressive dry and old. The burger I got looked like it came out of a Fisher price toy catalogue. Not impressed.

Geoff Stirling

Nothing like a great strawberry milk shake on a hot summer night!
