Admitted foodie here. Awesome wait staff service, I really mean excellent. Relaxing ambiance, but does not view the mountain. And then came the food. Artistic visually yes, but "meh" on the gustation. Tuna appetizer was just a letdown compared to excellent restaurants that do it well. Overwhelming onion to coverup an inferior cut of tuna. Also ordered the rabbit ravioli (they used a different name). Nothing wrong with it, just lacked much character. My wife had a nice Malbec and I had a Manhatten which were fine. Would habe left fewer stars but waiter removed tuna from the bill without me asking. We left $15 tip on a $25 bill because he truly was great with service. If I was given a $1000 gift card to come back, I wouldn't. If you claim excellence, then don't serve food that isn't just that.

The Tree room is a staple in Sundance and arguably a fine dining staple of Utah county. With it's Rich history through Robert Redford, it's Southwest motif ( through it's authentic native American decor), and it's natural mountain surrounding, the Tree Room is a fantastic atmosphere for a special dinner. The only piece dropping my rating on this review is the food quality. I have been twice over the last 3 months and both time I have left feeling a little underwhelmed by the food. Nothing on the menu really hits on the theme, or really even has a theme. And beyond the thematic element of the restaurant, the courses you get feel underwhelming for the price you are paying. I really hope the food situation gets sorted out, because I LOVE this place.

Be sure to make reservations! Amazing food! Plenty of options for dietary restrictions! Delicious specialty drinks (non-alcoholic options). Amazing service! Even better service than expected at a fine dining establishment. Live music. Quiet library with fire place. for sitting before/after your meal. Management will make sure your meal and service is a wonderful experience. Quaint rustic feel in a lodge setting. Dessert is divine. Be sure to save room. Go there with plenty of time to savor your meal. Also, be sure to walk around the grounds to take in the forest mountain scenery.

The wife and I have been dining here for 41 years as of this writing. It goes back to when we were dating. We've dined here well over 100 times. I should have written a review here earlier, but my only meals have been with business groups, not just with the wife. The Tree Room has always been a true chef driven restaurant. That's fantastic in times when you have a Chef that's hitting on all cylinders. That's not always the case. Unfortunately the times they've had the best Chefs, the Chef gets national recognition and the Chef is gone within a year to a bigger market. Nearly all the Chefs have stayed within the box. This is a Western resort restaurant. The menu reflects those sensibilities. Sundance takes pride -- and justifiably so -- in the sourcing of ingredients. They grow many of the ingredients themselves. We had not been around in a while because there's been other options that fit our purse strings better, and it's only been recently I could have the scratch to dine here again. The verdict ... Solid food, but nothing that stood out. Minor lapses in the cooking. The sauces had less flavor then they should have. Ernest service, but not at the level of this level of fine dining should have. I appreciate that I apparently have excellent skills at picking good dishes. I expect everyone he serves does. I appreciate that he has dishes he likes better than others, and that he has endless curiosity about how much I'm enjoying the dish when I start eating it, while I'm eating it, and after I ate it. OK, I don't and I don't expect it at one of the States finest restaurants. At this point it's not reaching the level that it's handful of direct competition has reached. If the chef has changed since I wrote this, all bets are off about the quality. It may be back. I'll update as I know.

We had an unforgettable experience here. The food was fantastic.

Best fancy restaurant in Utah. It’s about time someone figured out how to make fancy food taste amazing. The decor is totally Cowboy, which fits perfectly with Sundance. Portions are small but perfect. The seasonal carrot/fennel soup was divine. The goat-cheese pasta was tasty. Homemade wheat sourdough bread with fresh butter and sea salt. Every bite of the duo beef was delectable. The salmon was creamy and melted in my mouth. We could decide on desserts, so we got 3 of them. All delicious. Thank you, Sundance.

Normally we've been to the Tree Room and it has been fabulous. Last night was an exception. We received our food cold and when we complained they warmed it up and overcooked it. They did take one dinner off the bill-but added an extra bottle of wine. So, we had to correct that mistake too. Overall it was not one of the best experiences we've had there. Unfortunately, the experience was bad enough (and expensive enough) that we'll likely not go back. Though we'll still frequent the Grill and the Owl Bar. We've had excellent experiences at both of those places every time we've been there.

James Ethan

I went there last week with one of my friend who has been a regular customer there. He would not stop complimenting the food and the staff so I decided to accompany him for his next visit. We were served excellent bread. They start with a little palate cleanser tomato on cracker. Everything service to me there was excellent.

This place is very good. The only true fine dining experience in Utah county. It is one of the best places to enjoy a meal I have ever been. I would recommend the tree room to anyone. It is a gorgeous restaurant and the food matches. Great food. Great views. Excellent.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the U.S.A. Seriously. Upscale but nicely casual. You don't have to dress up. The decor is definitely mountain and native American themed. The menu is definitely upscale. It is not expansive, but with food this good it doesn't need to be. As good as it is, it is not pretentious at all. The service is spot on. The chef provided tempting little tidbits before and after the meal. You can share an appetizer, have a salad and main course without feeling bloated. But.... You will be satisfied with the portions, quality, and presentation. You will have room to share a dessert of the finest quality as well. This is fine dining to be sure, but you can spend more and not have this quality or atomosphere. This is a must do place, even a bucket list. If you're in the Provo Utah area, it's just a short drive up Provo canyon.

Emil Chuang

Excellent place to celebrate special occasions. Great service, perfectly cooked dishes and nice wine list.

Why did I wait so long to go here? We came for our anniversary and spent an afternoon on the lift and doing dinner there at Sundance. The staff was positive and helpful and the courses were very good. My favorite part may have the bread—so many flavors rolled up in there! This dining experience was actually quite significant for me as it was really the first time that I enjoyed presentation over quantity. I love to eat, so I often find myself doing the math before ordering, trying to balance something that sounds good but will also be filling. I know, so uncouth. But as each plate came out we enjoyed the description of the food from the waitress, the presentation was impressive and the textures and flavors were all quite an experience in itself. It was quite fun! Somewhere in there I forgot that I wanted to stuff my face and I’m OK with that.

Great food. But they discriminate against families. No kids allowed. Horrible policy in Utah. Kids should be allowed, and if they are disruptive then can be asked to leave. But don't ban all kids because a few people don't know how to teach their kids to behave.

We enjoyed our short time at the Tree room. Wonderful service!

Wonderful place and delicious food! Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I think the portion sizes are small. I left hungry and after paying $50 for the Elk (Which was AMAZING) it was just on the small side. The wait staff was great and we enjoy every second of being at Sundance.

Sean Grover

Fine dining in the mountains. European and American Cuisine in an elegant and intimate setting.

Jennifer Breeden

Beautiful surroundings, delicious food, excellent service

Incredible, tasty and accommodating. They even had whole wheat sourdough. Just go and enjoy. The food and service will knock your socks off. It looks laid back and relaxed but the service is actually closer to my expectations of a Michelin star winning restaurant.

Chloe

We went for our anniversary and were very impressed with the experience. There was an interesting variety on the menu and we enjoyed everything we ordered. We both had the Pepper Steak and it exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere is cozy, romantic and a little formal. They give you the option to sit next to your partner if you wish, which I thought was a lovely idea. Service was exceptional. We will be returning to this lovely spot for our special occasions.

As a teenager I skied Sundance exclusively as it was so close. Skipping school just to be in this amazing place the Mr. Redford has shared with us. 40 years later I have returned to the area and have picked up from where I left off. Skiing is a bit more challenging but my taste buds are perfect. The Tree Room is such an escape from the city that offers a wide selection of unique dishes that will leave you wanting more. Thanks to the wonderful staff that makes this experience that much more memorable. See you all Saturday Night.

Hands down — one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Excellent food, attentive and engaged service staff, incredible environment. Very well done, Sundance.

Delicious food at a romantic candlelit restaurant in Sundance. Make sure to have reservations! I came during valentines/Presidents' Day weekend and they had a prix-fixe three course menu. The chef prepared a blood orange geleé with a bit of cheese and micro greens on top. It was flavorful and a good start. The chef also prepared a roll with nuts and seeds with butter and olive oil. It was divine! I had the Tru Cup cocktail, which was mint, cucumber, and gin served in a copper cup. It was refreshing and amazing! For my first course, I started with a ginger beet soup, which was a little too gingery, but I did like the hazelnuts on top. My second course was a branzino (European sea bass). It was perfectly crisp and delicious. My dessert was the beignets with marscapone ice cream. It was good, but much too filling. I enjoyed my partner's dessert, the berry with a vanilla cream sauce. Overall, it's a good value and the staff was extremely attentive.

Fine dining in the middle of Sundance. This place was amazing and beat my expectations. The service was excellent and the ambience was very intimate. I had their famous pepper steak, which I highly recommend. Being from California, there's something about the beef here in Utah. It was tender and cooked perfectly. Had the fixed menu, which was not over priced at all. I had the scallops to start which was excellent, and to finish the bread pudding (also great). Their cocktails were also great. If you feel up for it after dinner, head over to the Owl bar, to finish the night off with some live music and more great drinks.

Darren Collins

Everything was just ok. You don't go to a place like this for the food to be just ok. The food was cooked properly, but lacked flavor.

Keith Griffin

Fabulous. Great ambiance and food

Took my girlfriend on a date here, amazing food and experience, but you pay for it.

The Tree Room at the Sundance Mountain Resort is seriously one of the best restaurants I’ve been to! I normally don’t like fancy food that much, but this was the best fancy food I’ve ever had! The flavors I experienced with every course of the meal was like an amazing journey! The Sundance salad had some of the most amazing, unique flavors! And by far the best dish, and best STEAK I’ve ever had, was the Tree Room Pepper Steak. The flavors were to die for! I dream of eating that steak again! Also, the service was amazing! They were kind, and helpful. And the setting of this restaurant, in the mountains, and the smell, look, and feel of the cabin like atmosphere is just awesome! The experience is great. Definitely one of the top restaurants in Utah.

S Moore

Romantic, great service, great food. Probably THE best dining experience in Utah County. Look for the General Store at the Sundance resort and The Tree Room will be just to the right of it. Tip: Tuesday's and Wednesday's are their less busy times. Went on a Wednesday, early evening (6pm), and we beat the crowd.

We went here after a great lift ride(highly recommend!) The service was top notch and and they added some special touches for our anniversary. There was only 3 other tables at time and they seated us all close together. I wish we had been more spread out. We ordered the steak and chicken which were top notch. Even the butter that came with the bread was amazing! However, the evening ended slightly downhill with our dessert. We tried the raspberry lemon and it was underwhelming. We got a truffle at the end of the night and it seemed to be some lemon/citrus flavor. The flavor was just a shock of taste and completely unexpected. Maybe if they told us the flavor beforehand I would have liked it but the shock just kinda soured it. Overall, the food and service was great. Just be leary of dessert and the truffle!

Geoffrey Reyes

Cindy Rich

The pepper steak and Valentine's dessert were delicious. Both were the best I've ever had. Portions are smaller but their presentation is on point. Staff was very attentive. I can't wait to return.

Best pepper steak, ever!

Excellent restaurant!! Beautifully located..

Brandon Jamison

Great ambiance. Small portions except for the chicken. Great unique flavor items.

You haven't experienced fine dining until you experience the Tree Room. I highly recommend coming during a slower time such as a weekday. I must warn you though, any service you receive from here on out will be a disappointment compared to the Tree Room staff.

Excellent food. A private space for celebrities and bigwigs.

A romantic and cozy upscale atmosphere paired with exquisitely delicious food is a sure recipe for a wonderful evening out! Everything we tried was phenomenal, from the appetizer all the way to dessert.

This restaurant is in a rustic lodge at Sundance, in the main building. You’ll need reservations. It’s one of the original restaurants at the 50 yr old resort and they definitely have food and service down to a science. Quiet ambience with plenty of Redford photos on the wall. We were served excellent bread; choose the Sundance scone. Most excellent. They start with a little palate cleanser tomato on cracker. We had an eclectic dinner collection: I decided on starters and my companion had the halibut. I had steak tartare, berry frisée salad, and tomato bisque soup special. We shared a berries and creme anglais dessert. There is a little post meal macaroon served as well. Food was excellent, service was superb. They are very attentive. Also you’re not allowed to take photos in the restaurant for privacy reasons but I think my camera slipped and took the food shots... I waited til the restaurant was empty to take the room shot.

Living in Utah for 20 years, the Tree Room remains a favorite and lux treat when considering a special place to be. Ahhh Sundance, totally unique and beautiful. A genuine gem in Utah. Dinner is top notch with expert preparation, good wine service and selection, inviting ambiance. An evening well spent, you will be delighted.

Francine Anderson

This was our second time to The Tree Room. Service and food did not disappoint us. Their staff is exceptional in taking care of every thing. We both had their famous Pepper steak. Was cooked perfect, the presentation is beautiful! This is one of our favorite restaurants in Utah! If you go, best to leave your cell phone off. There is no taking pictures or videos in the restaurant. Great way to spend an evening with no interruptions.

Steve Mudd

Lovely dining experience. Really enjoyed the subtle yumminess of the trout. And appreciated the creativity of the caramel dessert with its pomegranate and popcorn.

Stiv Walloo

It was all very good. My wife's chicken was dry and my steak was tough but still tasty.

My wife and I spent the day at Sundance for our anniversary and ate at The Tree Room. This was our first experience there and our waiter told us about the amazing limited edition chef tasting. He called it a culinary journey. Sadly, the journey was lack luster. The appetizer was fine but the duck was awful. Instead of being tender and full of flavor, it was tough and grisly and the mushroom, whatever it was, tasted like garlic and chive chip dip. The dessert was good. A cake with citrus cream sauce and carrot shavings. Sadly this was our first experience and not only not worth the investment, my wife’s undercooked duck made her sick for the rest of the weekend. Reading previous reviews we were expecting a wonderful night. Other than the company and the ambiance, dinner was a fail.

Erik Patterson

Probably one of the top 3 restaurants, perhaps the best, in Utah County. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is warm and rustic. Named after the tree (now dead) that is in the middle of the room. There are unique, authentic native american blankets and other decorations. Expect to pay top dollar for a great meal.

Mitch Lunceford

The food was amazing, and the atmosphere was super cool.

Christie Margetts

Ambiance, excellent menu, top notch service. Tables are arranged for the maximum feeling of privacy. No noisy music. A true chef's delight for serving a meal that has been created with skill.

Zak Taylor

I just came back from dinner at the tree room and had a terrible experience. I took my wife here to celebrate our anniversary to try something new and wish I had gone somewhere else. First off, it was very cold in this restaurant. With it being 20 degrees outside I was hoping for a warm, cozy place, but got an ice cube instead. It wasn’t until AFTER our meal that the waiter told us their boiler was broken! And did they do anything about it? NO! The manager should have come out and done something, anything. No discount, no dessert, nothing! It was a very expensive dinner and I expect better service for that price. Our waiter didn’t check on us more than once and the bread girl was running around so fast we couldn’t even ask for more bread. The little cheese sandwich that came with my wife’s tomato soup was also burned. To top it all off, we were leaving and started to take a picture of the only cool thing in the restaurant- the tree, and were told, “Oh, you can’t take pictures in here.” Haha! I just laughed and said, ”are you kidding?” Nope, she wasn’t kidding. You really think it’s so cool that you can’t let people take pictures? Wow. Yet another reason not to go back! Save your money and go somewhere pleasant. Pretty much anywhere would be better.

Graham Thompson

So I'll say this. The food was really good. And that's why I go to restaurants. Well, that's mostly why. Some people like ambiance. Some people like decor. Some people like good service. And while maybe those aren't what I'm focused on, what I know I don't want is pretentious. The place itself was just a little too much for me. I get it. People want to feel like they are going somewhere really nice. It's already in a cool location. But I don't care that Robert Redford shows up for dinner once in a while. So the food was really good. And the service was really good. But I wouldn't go back.

Mary Crafts

What are my absolute favorite places to eat in Utah. I've been back so many times over the years and each time I am blown away by the service and quality of the food.

The ambient and service were awesome but I didn't think the food was anything special for the price. The chairs were also very uncomfortable to sit in for such a nice place where you'll be sitting for such a long time. I wasn't the only one to complain about the chairs either.

Bethany Walters

Tanner Galmeister

I took my wife here for Valentines Day and wow was it quite the treat. Neither of us had tried octopus before so we went for the octopus appetizer and it was surprisingly good! Along with that they had a delicious bread selection. Lastly we both decided to get the infamous Tree Room pepper steak with the mango sauce, it seriously is amazing. We loved the romantic ambiance here and we will definitely be back!

Michael Robinson

Adam Terry

Wow what a classic!! Always get the soup whatever it is and that farm egg!?! Delish! Of course I tried the classic pepper steak absolutely flawless. Dessert wise we shared carrot cake, sorbet and chocolate decadence, I loved all three. You guys the Sundance vibes are so right here and the service and food are very hard to beat. Such a lovely place enjoy every moment in this beautiful carefully curated dream of Robert Redfords

We where hoping for a wonderful experience. Not last night. Took 1 hr to get our food. Salmon was good but the halibut was very dry, as if it had been cooking the whole time. Very cold in the restaurant. Everyone was shivering. Quite unpleasant. A real disappointment.

Lenni Uitto

Best restaurant ever! I had the Elk Loin...and that thing was the best meat i've ever eaten. It had a leafy salad/cabbage on the side that tasted like salty peanuts! So good...
