REVIEWS OF Pretty Bird Chicken IN Utah

Alex Lindsey

Really really good chicken. I ordered a chicken sandwich and everything about it was delicious. The heat level wasn't too hot that it affected the taste, but enough to give it a kick. The seasoning on the chicken was awesome and had a nice but of sweetness to it. The slaw is a nice addition and balanced out the heat. The fries are nothing special, but the dipping sauce for them is bomb. My only real problem is the price. Even if this sandwich is awesome, I can't justify that price. Might come back again, but definitely won't be a regular place to dine. Certainly worth trying though.

This is a great little place. The chicken has a nuanced flavor that really sets it apart. Spicy with a hint of sweet and savory. If you choose to eat outside, bring your sunglasses since the white table tops reflect the sun making it hard to see.

Brent Lemberg

Good fried chicken. Crispy, very moist, and spicy (I ordered hot). The service was fast and the menu simple. Definitely a good place to go for a quick lunch. Lines form, so go early or expect to wait.

Thomas Gappmayer

The best spicy chicken sandwich in Salt Lake. The hype is real here. Make sure to get their Pretty Bird sauce and try their seasonal side dish, it's always excellent.

Steve G

The staff is very friendly, the setting and outside seating is very nice. There is nothing wrong with having just one note, in this case chicken, but if your one note is average at best and expensive... If you love spicy (and super spicy) chicken then maybe this place is for you but I like some flavor with my cayenne pepper. And finally the price, $50 for 3 people sandwich combo seems way too high for what is essentially a chicken fast food.

Bradley Davis

Ok. I must say this place is busy.... in fact crazy busy. I definitely liked the chicken sandwich, but I must say that "Lovebirds" in Provo has a better taste for the mild chicken sandwich. Prices are high... like $15 without a soft drink. So be prepared to open your wallet, but in return you'll get a very good meal.

Dakota Robbins

Fantastic southern style chicken sandwiches. Huge portion of meat and delicious sauce on top. Their fries were perfectly crispy as well!

Rob Oldroyd

Honestly the best chicken sandwich I have ever had! There is a magical mix of sweet and spicy that comes together to perform on the stage of your mouth. Seating is extremely limited but there are plenty of nearby locations to enjoy your amazing lunch.

Constance Steele

The little sandwich joint that could; what Pretty Bird lacks in space, it makes up for in big flavors. I don't have much to add here to the glowing reviews. The staff was patient, all smiles and attentive explaining over and over again the offerings and fan favorites. Yes, the line stretches around the corner (for a reason), yes, your sandwich might take some time to come out (for a reason), but the direction the creators and chefs have taken to bring friend chicken to Salt Lake should be commended. A must stop shop on your trip up to go skiing, or the perfect option for that 'one meal', these sandwiches are serious, filling, fresh and delicious. Be on the lookout for copy cats to pop up soon, because Pretty Bird got it right and imitation is the highest form of flattery!!

Nikhil Karnik

It’s an average place. Hot is very hot. Chicken does not have any flavors apart from the spicy flavor.

Marcy M

No wonder there is a line out the door! This is the tastiest chicken/ chicken sandwich place in town. Right next to the Eccles theater, off Regent street. I ordered the sandwich, and their seasonal salad (cucumber, mandarin oranges in a yogurt dice with dill and leeks?) That was an unusual but tasty option. We were lucky to sit counter side and watch these guys put together people's food (see photo). These also offer beer and wine, besides the basic soda fountain.

Harsha Nori

It's a great sandwich place. The spice is amazing and sandwiches are really filling! There are various spice levels catering people of different interests. The buttered buns are amazing with fried chicken and the sauces, spices and rest of the things go really well with each other. Fries are really good too and everything is really fresh! Overall it was an amazing experience, I would totally recommend this to everyone who's in Salt Lake Downtown.

Jeremy Tsang

Food is good. I had both the sandwich and the fried chicken leg. Food worth the price. very small place though, not big enough for families with kids.

Truman Halladay

Picture says it all. Best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. Gorgeously balanced, insanely delicious and perfectly spiced. The PB sauce is excellent and great on the fries and sandwich. It’s huge. I share with a friend.

K B

Oh. My. God. The memory of this perfect chicken sandwich will forever live in my memory. I wish there was one in Colorado! <\3

Zach Yaninek

It does one thing and does it right, and that’s fried chicken. There’s definitely no place like it, and its fried chicken is the best I’ve ever had.

We came to Pretty Birds right after our flight landed from San Diego. It’s only a 10 minute drive from the airport to downtown. We were the second people in line for the dinner opening. Got our food and sat outside on the patio to eat. Everything looked great but my bun was very dry almost hard and the French fries were made some time before I ordered. As for the overall chicken sandwich, it had a good taste but all the seasoning made the overall sandwich chalky. It was like eating a spicy chicken sandwich covered in crushed antacid tablets, is the only way that I could describe it. I also think my chicken was left over from the lunch rush, as it was dry almost over cooked in some places. This is all my opinion so let your own taste decide.

Tiffany Lieberman

So good! I got hot "behind" chicken sandwich with fries and PB sauce. It was perfect. Spicy and lemony. Fried, yet still super fresh. Very friendly staff. Indoor and outdoor seating. Very small place, don't come with a large party.

Jonathan Cooley

Second best fast food chicken I've ever had, second only to Raisin' Cane's in Ohio. The dry rubs were very tasty (I ordered mild but tried the others) and the portions were more than adequate. Their special sauce reminds me of Cane's sauce and the staff were very personable and service-oriented. They treated us like good friends and were efficient and friendly. 10/10 would eat there again

brianna bonelli

Best Fried Chicken in SLC . This tiny space packs a huge punch of flavor, personality, and color! They have wine and beer too! The house sauce is a buttermilk base with lemon and dusts of spice. If you are a sauce connoisseur you will love how complex it is! They do 2 preps lunch and dinner, once they are out, they are out. So get there early and eat your heart out!

M Zhao

the fried chicken is awesome and delicious. And as a Chinese who likes spicy food, I would suggest medium or mild, do not try hot...

Wade Brinton

I know it’s another picture of their chicken sandwich, but every time I look at it I salivate a little. The chicken was so juicy in the middle yet perfectly crispy on the outside. I went a little hotter and do not regret it even though my lips tingled. There is a small hint of sweet cinnamon in the deep fried batter. Very nice. This chicken is like your best kiss, you compare everything else to it.

Ryan Kirkham

Very good. I like the small menu because it shows they know who they are and are good at what they do. My personal preference is for mild. The medium is a bit spicier than I was hoping. Portions are huge and shareable.

Jonathan Foster

That was a tasty chicken sandwich. Warning "Hot" is really hot, if I had to do that over again medium would be fine. So delicious.

Josie Cervantes

Amazing chicken sandwiches! BEST IVE HAD!!! The staff very friendly and you can see they enjoy their job. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a smile. Even while eating, we got a nice dancing show!

Scott Leonard

One of the best spicy chicken joints I have been to. I got the hot sandwich, and I am glad I didn't go hotter because they don't oversell the spice.

Fahad Hba

Just a simple fried chicken sandwich but with great taste, excellent to the point spice, moist, and FANTASTIC. Staff are great and very friendly. Love it

Jay Tobey

The food is amazing! A must when in SLC just have a place picked out to go eat the food because the place is tiny.Get a BIGGER space!! The food is always worth the jostle of random strangers packed into a building like sardines.

Isaiah Olson

Food was alright but long line and over hyped. The food was ok, like it was slightly better that a Chick-fil-A sandwich but cost way more and there was a long long line. I spent at least 45 minutes waiting outside to order. Would not recommend going unless there was no line and they lowered the price

Deidra Thomas Richards

QUALITY chicken sandwiches. To die for! Well worth the price. The staff is friendly and really fast. The sandwiches are large and filling. The fries are delicious and the fry sauce makes them that much better. The seating is limited and often a bit messy, but the staff is willing to clean the seating for the customers. Such a fun and unique place!

Elizabeth Coggins

Incredible, simple fried chicken in a clean environment with friendly, fast service. The spices are just the right amount, and not painfully hot. Their signature sauce is unforgettable. I’m from “The South”, and am a fried chicken lover to the core, and this place definitely made my list of favorite fried chicken restaurants.

Ryan Jensen

A true culinary adventure! Got mine "Hot"... Nose ran the whole time but loved it. Highly recommend pretty bird sauce with the crinkle fries. Lemony fresh.

Yue Zhao

This is the best fried chicken sandwich I have ever had. The first bite is super crispy, and the flavor is unique from other fried chickens. We will definitely come back if any chance.

Matthew Coombs

This place does not disappoint. Yes you pay a little extra for the sandwich but you get twice the proportion than at the ‘other’ chicken sandwich place. It has great flavor and medium still had some nice heat to it. The cabbage at first glance seemed like it was gonna be overwhelming but it complimented the sandwich perfectly and almost left me wanting more as I got down to my last few bites. The sandwich alone is enough to fill ya up. I showed up as they were winding down lunch and they were awesome and let me stay in and eat as they prepped for dinner. Super friendly people! Definitely recommend checking it out! Sandwich was $10.50 and meal I think came out to just over $15

Stephen Stanley

This is another Salt Lake City restaurant that everyone loves, but I don't get. The food was fine. I love fried chicken. The line is usually horrible and the seating is scarce to non existent. But, most people love this place so maybe don't listen to me.

Ike Hinckley

If a joint has less than 3 items in the menu you know they do it well. Get it 'hot behind' and take home something to remind you of Pretty Bird.

Chris Corey

Your options are fried chicken on a plate or a bun for $10 & $11 respectively. Normally I would not be interested, but this place is definitely the exception to the rule. Make it a full meal and your looking at $15. There is a reason the line is almost always out the door, and it's not just because this place is tiny, which it is. I have happy waited in the cold and snow for 20 min to get my fix.

Tim Card

Best Chicken Sandwich you will ever have! Simple ingredients consisting of bun, slaw, pickles, sauce and of course Chicken. Pretty Bird raises the bar with the spice level options for the sandwich. There is a perfect level for everyone ranging from mild to Hot Behind. If you still need more spice in your life, ask for a heavy shake.

Ryan Jacobs

I ha heard about Pretty Bird from basically everyone with a pulse that this place, was THE place for a fried chicken sandwich. It was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the most tasty, crunchy, and SPICY (my fault, I thought it could hang, I could not) fried chicken sandwich I've had in my life, anywhere in the US. I was thinking of moving to explore other cities.. Now I simply can't. #omnom

Hands down THE best chicken sandwich joint in the Salt Lake Valley. I loved the atmosphere which is very enjoyable, along with the friendly and funny employees! But let's cut to the chase: the freaking food. I snagged a medium spice chicken sandwich with some crinkle cut fries and their PB sauce. I was low-key overwhelmed by the size of the sandwich until I took a bite and understood why they're so large: you can't get enough. The harmonious blend of spices lathered on that chicken thigh added with the bun, pickles, coleslaw and sauce was literally a party in my mouth... which is watering as I write this review. No Chick-Fil-A or other dinky chicken sandwich joint will compare; God bless Pretty Bird.

John Miranda

If you haven't eaten here, your missing out on life!! This is legit the BEST chicken you will get in the entire state of Utah!! DO NOT SLEEP!! Hot is good if you like to sweat a little, get the PB sauce for your fries...

Jeffrey Balch

Amazing chicken! Get there early or you will be waiting. However, it's well worth the wait. Love the different levels of heat!

Phoenix Pham

Went here 2 days in a row when I was visiting. Food looks exactly like in the pictures and taste as good and crunchy as it looks. Really small space though so there wasn't a lot of seating options. I did takeout and walked the food to the mall food court down the street where there was plenty of outdoor and indoor seats

Heidi Mabunga

Really interesting take on a chicken sandwich. The Cole slaw is not my favorite. The chicken was good. I got the mild and it had a ton of flavor. My husband got the spicy one and it was definitely hot. The sauce has a surprisingly citrusy taste to it. It wasn't like a fry sauce or a BBW sauce at all. Fries were also good.

Benjamin Sain

Pretty Bird is my go-to in SLC when I'm in need of some soul food. The menu is pretty simple: a chicken sandwich or a chicken plate...both can come with fries. You can adjust the spiciness to your taste and the flavor is just fantastic. Simply, it's the best chicken sandwich I've ever had.

Patrick Prum

not a better fried chicken sandwich in utah than the one you'll find at pretty bird. the slaw is perfect and the chicken is sensational

Michele Grove

The Sandwich is delicious. Don't listen to people saying its comparable to chick-fil-a LOL Its by far the best sandwich I've ever had. I've never been a fan of coleslaw, but they're doing something right there. The fry sauce was good, super limey. Which i loved on the sandwich, but it wasn't my favorite on the fries. I wouldn't get the fries again. And people are right. its expensive. I ordered a chicken sandwich and fries and it was $15. And they charge you .50 for a fry sauce which is weird. All and all its a must try at least once! Probably won't go back a lot if ever since its so expensive.

Bryce Isaacson

Their spice rub is unique and heavily applied. I appreciated the new take, although the flavor wasn't really really to my liking. The quality of the ingredients was high, though. Large piece of moist chicken in the bun. The space is small, about 8 counter-style seats, and busy so don't plan on eating in!

Keith Ma

Wow this place is good! Menu is simple and asks you one simple question, do you want a sandwich or just the bird. You can then toggle your choice by the level of spiciness. A word of caution, the "hot behind" spiciness option truly does produce one. Let this be a warning. I ordered a sandwich, hot, with a side of fries. The chicken was perfectly buttermilk battered with a generous seasoning that they sprinkle on after frying. It's perfectly moist, crispy, and the hot was perfectly spiced... not too hot, but hot enough to remind you that the spice is there. I would come once every other week if I lived close by. Oh yeah, be prepared to wait in line as this place is popular. I think I waited close to 15 minutes to order and another 10 to get my sandwich. We came on a Friday evening around 6.

Kim Payne

The little sandwich joint that could; what Pretty Bird lacks in space, it makes up for in big flavors. I don't have much to add here to the glowing reviews. The staff was patient, all smiles and attentive explaining over and over again the offerings and fan favorites. I've been waiting to visit Pretty Bird for awhile and I'm glad we finally made it. I've never had a sandwich like this--the flavors weren't what I was expecting, but it was good. I thought the medium heat was perfect. I loved the slaw and the pickles. The pretty bird sauce/fries were great too. Everything was fresh and the service was so fast. I wish we could have gotten a table inside...it was sundown and getting cold and I hated eating outside. I knew that was a risk going in though! Definitely worth trying!

Steve Wilson

The staff was friendly, the service was fast. The sandwich was ok... and just ok. The fries are below average. Lousy, hard to get to location. The store was clean. The experience was excellent but the food wasn't. I won't be going back.

JD Caldwell

Pretty Bird is centrally located, with a very straightforward menu that makes it easy to jump in and get what you're looking for, which, largely, would be a fried chicken sandwich! The space itself is slightly cramped and there isn't much room to stand while you wait for your food, which is fresh cooked and nice and hot! However, don't plan on bringing your friends during lunch and having room to chat while you're waiting for your chicken; with the limited space, especially during lunch hour, you're likely going to plan on sitting elsewhere to eat. The chicken itself is very juicy and well flavored, and will appeal especially to those who like a sweeter, honey-like finish on their chicken glaze. A word to the wise; all the flavor levels have quite a kick, so unless you're ready for some afterburn start on the low end of the spectrum first!

Craig Johnson

Veerrrry good fried chicken. The southern boy in me was very pleased. Limited seating but it works fine. Side note... Hot is HOT, tread lightly.

B C

They only do one thing and they do it well. Combo price of $15 for a sandwich, basic fries, and Coke is a little overpriced.

Jason DeJardin

I love Nashville Hot as well as Korean fried chicken and Pretty Bird is almost the perfect combination of the two styles. Excellent fried chicken that is well worth your time and money. Outstanding!

David Morris-Stump

This place is amazing. If you are looking for hot chicken here in Salt Lake, stop and go here. I am in no way an expert, but I've been to a couple of authentic Nashville hot chicken places and this definitely meets that level of quality. They have very limited seating, so I suggest getting it to go. It was super simple to call in an order for my group of six and come pick it up. Be careful with the spiciness, they accurately describe. Unless you love heat, stick with the medium or mild.

Ron Williams

Line out the door but moves along. Would be better if they offered a fried breast option for the sandwich (thighs only). Fried chicken on the bone also but can run out. Limited side and drink choices. Everything cooked fresh to order. No vegan, gluten free or veg options (single fryer) Some outdoor seating, some counter seating. Not accessible friendly inside. Plenty of paid garage parking nearby. Cash, Credit cards and Apple Pay ok (Square). No restrooms, probably some nearby options.

Audrey Kim

I think of myself as a fried chicken aficionado. I've had fried chicken in Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, and many other places in the U.S. But I've never had fried chicken like what I had here. The spice coating makes me think of Cinnamon Toast Crunch mixed with traditional southern fried chicken spice mixtures. The special sauce has a citrus kick (our server said there was lemon in there) that was completely unexpected. There will probably be a line, but I personally thought it was worth the wait and worth the hype. It's a little on the pricier side, but I'd rather pay a little more for higher quality food.

J. Todd Hubbard

Love the sandwich & PB sauce! Taste buds wish I lived closer, but my waist says differently!

Timothy Welke

By far one of the best sandwich places in Utah. Period. The sandwich is simply beautiful and beautifully simple. The cool pickle and slaw pair so well with the freshly battered and fried chicken; all in a brioche and that mouth watering sauce. If you haven't been, you have to go at least once 11/10

Sierra West

Was busy with a line out of the door when we got there. We almost didn't go in, but decided we wanted to give it a try. The line moved very quickly. When we ordered they only had sandwiches left (it was only 7:30). We decided to take it to go because it was so busy. The food was delicious, but not amazing.

Destiny Florez

There is a good reason this place is always packed. The food is heavenly. I can just think of thier food and it simultaneously makes me so hungry and so happy. I never mind my workdays when Pretty Bird is the lunch option. Best chicken, ever, of all time! Always packed so plan ahead for a brief wait and full seating. I promise, it's worth both.

Susie Arrieta

Great chicken sandwich! You can choose how spicy you want it and the fries are so good too! It's a nice little cozy place. The staff is so friendly! We went there in the dinner rush and they were so busy, but even like that the food came out so fast! You will never ever want to eat at any other fried chicken chain again!

Kaitlin Holman

Hands down the best chicken sandwich you’ll ever eat. I’ve been here a few times and it’s very clean and the staff is always super friendly and makes great suggestions. This is a place we would take our out of town family and friends every time!

Taylor V. Smith

Finally, genuinely spicy chicken sandwiches. The 'hot behind' will make you sweat, but it's balanced nicely by a pile of red cabbage slaw and pickles. Staff was friendly, service was quick. Definitely recommend!

Erik Simper

Really good food, really small restaurant. There's nowhere to sit. They have tables outside that are white, so you leave sweating and sun-blistered while feasting on their delicious chicken sandwich. You're about $15 out the door for a sandwich, fries, and a drink. Unique flavors though, and good crinkle fries.

Eric Payne

I love this place. For those who haven’t been here, go with the mild spice. I enjoy spice, and find the mild a great mix of flavor and slight heat for those just experiencing this chicken sandwich from the Gods. No matter when you go, the food tastes the same every time. The chicken sandwich is mouth watering!

Theyvena Sanders

Heard a lot of great things about this place and I finally had the opportunity to try it. It was everything good like the positive reviews. I would visit it again and recommend it my family and friends.

Andy Millerberg

When there are only two items on the menu and a line WAY down the street, you know this place is gonna be good. I heard this place was amazing and it met every expectation. I usually don’t like slaw and pickles on my chicken sandwiches, but they are a must at pretty bird. I don’t think I could ever go to Chick-Fil-A again...I’m tossing that chick to the curb.

Andrew Macey

I've wanted to come here for a while. My wife and I went today and it was an excellent experience! The staff was super friendly and joked around with us. We both got the fried chicken sandwich with different levels of spice. The medium sandwich had some good kick to it. I loved the food! Fun atmosphere with great food.

Kennon Bacon

This place is good. Just good, not great. The chicken was large and tasty... and $10.5 by itself. A full meal for one is $15. On top of that, we waited in line for about 10-15 minutes. Sure, it was the lunch rush, but it was still longer than I expected to wait. My wife and I split one sandwich with the purple cabbage on the side. We expected that for paying over $11 after tax, it would reasonably fill us up. Nope. I was left wanting more, but not due to excellent flavors. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the cabbage since I had low expectations for that. It was surprisingly good, not too sour/acidic, almost sweet, and really balanced the meal. So while Pretty Bird is a unique place that has flavors I doubt you can find in elsewhere in Utah, it's definitely not worth the price or the wait. If someone else is paying for lunch, sure, head on over and have a new experience. Otherwise, just head on over to Chick-fil-a to get almost the same thing, for half the price, with fries and a drink, and in half the time.

Shayla Gale

It was a little spendy for what it is, but I'll probably be back. The seasoning is strong in a good way with a kick of cinnamon that surprised me. I got the medium spiciness and felt like it was hot while still being enjoyable. I wouldn't go any higher even though I do love spicy food. The pickles were awesome and the slaw was the perfect balance to the chicken. I would recommend giving it a try if you're on the fence. Keep in mind that the space is pretty small, so it will get crowded fast around lunch and dinner. There is extra seating outside too.

Alex Torres

Going in I saw there was a line going out the door. The look of the restaurant made it seem promising. I ordered a mild chicken sandwich. Food came out and it looked amazing. The taste, however, wasn't there. The chicken had a sweetness to it that I was not fond of. Overall I hoped better coming from a 4.5 star place.

Ian Hanson

A big thanks to all the staff here. They are Always friendly. The food is awesome.

Julia Isom

Lively! Great service from staff. Food is AMAZING and I will definitely be back for more. But non-spicy food eaters such as myself, beware! The medium was too much for me or my pals. The mild was just right!

Kalenah Moore

If you love good food, you need to go here. We live in a different state and the past two years we have traveled to Provo. We made the trip to Salt Lake just for this sandwich both times. I crave this sandwich randomly since I have had it. Your choice is sandwhich or just chicken. With varying hotness levels. Everything is cooked right there in front of you are they have it down. It is perfect. The chicken is juicy on the inside and so crispy on the outside. The flavor is unbelievable. Mixed with the cabbage stuff they put on top, the amazing, perfect sauce, the pickles that complement so well and the bun, it is quite an experience. And those crinkle cut fries... I thought there was no way to have a good crinkle cut fry. Usually they are soggy and bland and just taste like mushed potato. These changed everything. These fries are so crisp yet so soft in the middle, they are such a great fry. And of course... That sauce. That PB sauce, you must not skip out on. There is always a line out the door, it is a small place. But the line moves very fast. There is seating inside and outside, but both times I've been I see a lot of people take their food to go. We will go out of our way to have this place many times in the future I am sure.

Omar Arrieta

Best chicken sandwich in the valley. Wastch out on the level of spicy... Medium was plenty spicy and I like hot stuff
