REVIEWS OF Hell's Backbone Grill IN Utah

Fantastic food that is served in a good, normal serving size. We always split meals because restaurants pile on such ridiculous serving sizes elsewhere, and it’s so refreshing to be able to order two different things and enjoy a variety of tastes without being wasteful. Better yet, if you are a bigger eater, you can have room for dessert which is also incredible. By far my favorite restaurant in all of Utah- been twice, planning a third visit to the parks just to eat here again. I’m leaving this review solely to counteract another reviewer who complained about small portions—- it’s so rare to find delicious quality meals in proper sizes, would break my heart to see portion size creep up- and understandably with it, prices.

What a great dining experience. We stopped in for breakfast and it was the best breakfast I can remember. So good we stopped in later for dinner. Love the atmosphere and everything about this place. How do I add another star?

Radim Svoboda

Awesome ambience, delish breakfast made of local veggies, but pricy

Judy Allred

Beautifully gourmet food

Rob T

Great food and atmosphere

Tery Robertson

Stopped in for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and the restaurant was spotless. Service is friendly. I'm planning a trip soon and am going to make this one of my "can't miss" spots to stop and eat. YUM!

lars gardner

Good food, kinda small portions for the price.

Paul Fowles

Not your plain old restaurant fare. Great food, pleasant atmosphere, and fantastic service make this a 'Must Visit" destination.

Aristides Ioannides

Excellent farm-to-table choices. also has options for people with various food preferences.

Janelle Murlowski

Perfect stop between Bryce and capital reef. Fab food menu and full drink menu. Awesome service.

John Overbaugh

Really liked the food and the service. It's very natural food, and some dishes lack the spice (or prepared food fats) you might expect, but still a very good place.

Mary Shiyamala

Classy, yet inviting cosy place in the middle of nowhere. We were driving by to another grill close by that happened to be closed for dinner. So, checked this place. Worth it.

Myrl Jeffcoat

Great food. Wonderful spirit.

Scott Savage

As good as they say.

Michelle Hamilton

We stumbled on this gem while driving from Bryce Canyon National Park to Boulder, Utah. Make the stop if you have time! Lovely farm fresh food prepared from scratch in a very relaxed atmosphere. We wore our hiking clothes and didn’t feel out of place at all. Friendly service and great prices for what you get.

Dennis Dease

Great menu, exceptional service and delicious food. Stop here, you will not be disappointed!

We visited this place last October it was amazing so we chose this April to drive 1300 miles to have the most amazing breakfast you'll ever have

Jason Thomas

A gem of a restaurant in an idyllic location. Outstanding food and service.

David Sumner

Great ambiance and service! Excellent American food with a twist. Don't pass it by!

maureen clarry

When we visited Grand Staircase and Boulder, we ate every meal at Hell's Backbone Grill. The food was fantastic and we have told everyone we know about our experience. It is such a great atmosphere and our whole trip was positively impacted by their food and service and their story of community. The owners and staff were wonderful. We loved it and hope to go back sometime soon.

Juliette Lanvers

My favorite Utah restaurant, well worth the drive. This place is magical.

Kim B

Amazing food, great taste. Best food we’ve had in the west.

George William

Out in the middle of God’s country, amidst colorful canyons and crazy rock formations, where you barely see another human, sits a fine dining experience that’s more mirage than restaurant. Hell’s Backbone Grill is locally sourced farm to table creations that put a new twist on old favorites. I had a meatloaf unlike any I’ve ever eaten. So good. My wife had a pesto pappardelle with interesting new tastes. We came here on the recommendation of an artist in Springdale and we will never pass this way again, but tonight was magical. Something tells me that everything here is fantastic.

Angus Bennion

The ambiance is fantastic. We went for dinner and were seated outside but they had several large heaters and blankets so the cold was no problem. The side dishes (carrot purée, spaghetti squash, and pumpkin) were all very delicious. My wife got the lemony cluck and I got the “adult” mac n’ cheese. The skin on the chicken was very flavorful but the dish was hard to eat out of a bowl. I was a little disappointed in my macaroni and cheese because it was more of a gratin than anything else. If I had been expecting gratin rather than macaroni and cheese I think I would have been more happy, but my expectations made a difference.

Tim Gleason

Had dinner and breakfast here. Was very happy with the food and service for both. Definitely stop if you are in the area.

Wells Shoemaker

The Grill now has international acclaim, and it is fully deserved. Organic food that transports you beyond any calendar, creativity in the kitchen, respect for the unique environment of southern Utah, and genuine personality. You must stop.

Zac Lebwohl

Amazing service and amazing food.

Matthew Taylor

Place was lovely. Good wine. Good service. Food was refreshingly well thought out and ingredient forward.

Pat S

Elk steak was quite expensive, but small. Taste was OK, nothing special.

Marcus König

Really good healthy food and a wonderful Location

Joe

My wife and I stopped here on recommendations from many people we spoke with throughout Utah. We were not disappointed and have not had this quality of food many other places. You can taste the difference, I promise. Braised beef was great and my wife said the chicken was perfect.

Heidi Anderson

The location is magical. Many people come here for that reason. The food is just as amazing. I have to go back. I love the garden part (fresh carrot purée) Rare find.

Roland Stocker

What a unique and beautiful find along scenic highway 12 in Utah half way between Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks. Great food, good people.

Marc Sanders

We have eaten there several times in the past, both breakfast, lunch and dinner and have never failed to be very happy! The staff there is so friendly and the food delicious! We had some of our grandkids with us for breakfast and they were so nice to them and thoughtful.

Brent Sumner

Yes the reviews are right. Stopped in again for dinner after a 10 year lapse. Great food, great staff!

Austin Zorn

Perfect portion control, great food, great service. Wouldn't change a thing

David Newton

Ordered the patti-melt. It was so dry I asked for some bbq sauce or whatever. All they had was ketchup. Barely any fried onions or other garnishes. The atmosphere was okay. The waitress was very good. Given all the hype, reviews and such, I was very disappointed.

m rowe

Absolutley Amazing! We enjoyed the VERY best breakfast food and conversation with their INCREDIBLY friendly staff! A definite MUST if in the Grand Staircase neighborhood! Wish we lived closer!

Ana Popescu

Absolutely magical place with amazing fresh, thoughtful food. The owner and staff are a delight as well! Seriously a must for anyone traveling in the area.

Dave Martin

Everything Excellent !! Great staff, delicious food, amazing location. My friend unexpectedly treated me to lunch here and it was everything I would hope for in a restaurant. I've worked in hospitality for over 20 years and I love it when a place nails it!

Juan Esparza

It's a comfy place and they serve delicious food. I would recommend it.

rebecca ware

Awesome food, Beautiful ambience!! Highly recommend.

Ann Rogers

Best breakfast ever!!! Quaint setting and wonderful food.

Scott Stone

Walked in here covered in dust from camping and was surrounded by folks sitting down to a 5 star world class meal in an exceptional setting. We were a little apprehensive at first but I had wanted to eat here here for years; ever since their crew won a Guac Off in SLC. No one cared we were less then presentable. The staff was awesome as was the food. Great place, great food, great people.

Juhyun Kwon

Great food. Loved the decor as well.

Thomas

That was the most surprising restaurant I had the pleasure to visit. Local, sustainable ingredients. Awesome service personnel. A place to visit again, if it wasn't that far away.

John Heinel

This is a gem of a restaurant in an unconventional location. Fresh, creative food in a nicespace with friendly and attentive staff. Well worth the visit and we look forward to coming back someday. To those who complain about the prices, I defy you all to find lower prices for the same quantity/quality. Being from the East Coast, I find the pricing here to be a relative bargain.

Madeline Romney

An experience like none other. The food, the people, and the landscape are all equally magical.

Dawn Marie

The property and scenery was beautiful. It is in an amazing location and warm and comfortable. Unfortunately, the food was not awesome. A few choices of a twist on comfort foods. Normally that would be just fine and I really wanted to love my dish. My lemon chicken was dry, it would be better if they gave you the bone in breast instead of a portion. The sauce on the rice was way too salty. I like my salt. But, it was unenjoyable. Friend had the Bison, small portion for the price and slim amount of veggies. There is a manager that walks up to your table and that’s great but she needs to not wear perfume or so much in that case. A bit pretentious is a good word. I didn’t appreciate her telling me I only had one more bite to go on my biscuit as she scoops up my plate. I wouldn’t return but say give it a chance for yourself.

Flaming Serpent

I've been here before. I will tell you that this is one of the most incredible places to eat. The menu changes all the time. And in this case it's a very good thing. Anyone that has the opportunity to visit this place should make no excuses not to.

Chrizzly Atoms

Happened upon this gem on the road from Escalante to Torrey as we were going to be too late to get dinner in Torrey. The food was outstanding. It was so good that we made a reservation for the following evening and planned our whole next day’s adventure to end on the Burr Trail at Boulder just to eat here again.

Michelle Walker

Pretentious? Yes. Gourmet? Absolutely not. There is no use for an "upscale menu" in a tiny town that caters to hikers. We hiked 10 miles that day and spent $60 for a dinner that still left us hungry. We paid $26 for a meatloaf that easily could have been a week old and $19 for some dry pasta with very little pesto on it and an added $6 for half a breast of chicken that I know wasn't made to order as it didn't look or taste fresh. We wouldn't mind a fine dining restaurant if we actually got quality food instead of garden pickings and pretentious left-overs.

Lindsay Weinberg

Excellent food and atmosphere. My favorite dish is their pork chop -- I almost always choose this from their delicious dinner menu. I am also a big fan of their deviled eggs (appetizer menu), most of their soups (appetizer menu), oatmeal (breakfast menu) and all of their deserts (homemade Graham crackers, marshmallows, etc). If you're coming for dinner you should make a reservation (they can be unexpectedly busy and there are a limited number of tables).

Gabriela Russell

Am awesome spot to stop at if your passing this way. Food was wonderful and the location and outdoor seating was gorgeous

Alex Salv

Great service and food

Valerie Loving

Beautiful country to eat lunch in. A delightful restaurant that was a total surprise! Rain and hummingbirds. Good food. Wonderful staff.

Mark Cobb

Outstanding meatloaf with "she devil" sauce.

Just Being Me

Service was outstanding! Friendly staff, excellent atmosphere (we sat outside), and a pleasant surprise for a menu. Not at all what was expected as far as a “grill”, very artsy, quaint, innovative foods available! A vegetarian dream! The desserts are to die for- so save room! You want that grilled hamburger go down the street or stay home and cook...thus place is a wonderful change of pace!

Brandon Bishop

The staff was polite and friendly .The presentation and flavors were on point. The steak was cooked perfect and my girl loved her pasta. Keep up the good work. Cheers!

Michael Amen

My wife and I had a wonderful drive down to Boulder to enjoy Hell's Backbone Grill. The dinning experience was first rate, and the food was superior. I ordered two different bourbon drinks and the tastes were exceptional. Our entire meal was perfectly prepared. Our server was very good, and the co-owner made her presence among the guests charmingly perfect. We both found this restaurant, and our experience there, to be among our most memorable. Thank you!

Carol Szabo

When I visited it was crowded and the quality did not match the price.

Celia Gubler

Attended my sister's wedding here and it was stunning! Great location, great service, great amenities, and a place we'll remember!

William Wible

Simply wonderful food, ambiance, service! A hidden gem well worth an hour drive.

JOHN HOBBS

A good place for breakfast.

Mark Reinke

An unexpected gem. A bastion of Hope in a desert of food.

Andrea Reinhardt

Lovely place in a very remote location. The staff and owner were great. Sadly, we came in just behind a large group which challenged the dishwasher and also caused them to run out of their signature enchiladas. The staff did everything possible to make it better. Worth a trip if you are anywhere nearby.

Bob Borhart

Very high quality dining and attentive service, and low prices for this level of restaurant

Doug Tharp

Fantastic cuisine, craft cocktails, interesting if pricey wine list, great knowledgeable service, make reservations - they're always packed

tracy miller

OMG......I can't even describe the flavors. This is the SINGLE BEST BREAKFAST I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!

Andrew Gunderson

Great food in a gorgeous setting, but Bones (the sweet dog) was my favorite part

D B

Very good food, informative server, friendly host, comfortable setting and nothing to complain about. Priced above value in my opinion, but overall very good.

Emily Falls

I read some great reviews and articles on this place and it still superceded my expectations. My 11 year old son is a self proclaimed "connoisseur" of biscuts and gravy and he says their's are the best he's ever had! Enjoyed the soup and fresh baked breads as well. Hoping to pass back though just to eat here again!

Will Turner

Driving from one National Park to another, stopped in here for dinner. Oh my, it was great. Very unexpected for being in such a remote area.

Gary Houdek

Arrive before noon to experience this sublime grill in all its full Glory! Menu is loaded with tough choices!! Smoked trout is a totally marvelous choice, as is the pear buckle!!!

Nicholas Bluhm

After a long and possibly hot and dusty day, either exploring the slot canyons (Spooky and Peak-a-boo) or hiking the Lower Calf Creek Falls, there is simply no better place to eat in southern Utah than Hells Backbone Grill. Food and Wine consistently gives this place a top review; be certain to call for reservations just to make sure they have room for you, and if it’s warm enough be sure to take a seat outside. Their wine selection is excellent; their food is organic and amazing.

Paul Brower7

Very hip place on a beautiful farm in the middle of nowhere. Great find while traveling.

Bert Conley

Food was fabulous and so interesting and elegant.

Laura Elena Rosado

Delicious, healthy meal at a cozy cute restaurant. We had been hiking and driving all day and wanted a nice restaurant to treat ourselves. Hell's Backbone Grill was amazing!

David Liquori

You’re not going to find better food in a hundred mile radius. The service is spectacular. For a special treat come for breakfast. Seating on the porch is magical in the morning or the evening. Also, the restaurant is pretty pet friendly; there’s almost always a dog on the porch joining for a meal. Prices are high for the area, but fair for the quality of the food.

Caroline Northrop

This place is THE BEST!!! I dined here for my birthday on Saturday night - and it couldn't have been more perfect. The minute we saw this place, we got extreme cozy vibes. Warm lighting, candles on every table, excellent music playing in the background at the perfect volume. Cozy!! The staff was excellent - knowledgeable about every item on the menu, friendly, and brought our food very quickly (which was huge for two hungry people post hike!). Which brings me to my next point...the food. Every single item we ordered (and as I mentioned, we were hungry.....we ordered a lot) was delicious! Added bonus that everything on the menu is farm-fresh. To top it all off, our cute waitress brought us a wrapped up cookie (since we were too full to try a dessert at the moment). As we were walking out the door, one of the owners, Blake, asked us where we were staying. To our reply that we were camping, she insisted we bring back in our water bottles to be filled with boiling water to keep at the end of our sleeping bags (which was very helpful over the freezing night!). I love what this place stands for and everything about it! I will be back!

Tom Golob

Clearly an iconic eatery with a loyal following. For lunch, we felt it was somewhat over rated, but it is clearly a great choice if you are traveling super scenic Route 12. The owners would do well to instruct the serving staff to cover for each other, as we had servers ignoring us because it was not their table. Food is tasty, but quite limited in scope. We wish them continued success.

Adv Living

Great gourmet restaurant in a tiny town in the heart of America's most astounding geological beauty. Proud to read about the owners of the restaurant in the New Yorker, allied with others who are trying to keep Trump and the other earth killers from ruining the protected federal lands that make the Boulder area and most of Utah so special.

Todd Mowen

Soooooo Gooood! I am so happy this restaurant is next to my hotel. I had one of the best gluten free dinners and desserts I've had in years. All the food is so fresh and the staff was awesome. Make sure you make reservations otherwise you will have a wait. I had to wait and it was definitely worth it.

Brown Girl in the Great Wide World

This place is truly magical! My boyfriend and I stopped in on a whim for dinner on our 1 year anniversary and we were not disappointed!! It is in such a beautiful location, the food was phenomenal, and our server was so warm and charming! It was truly a beautiful experience! Thank you for the wonderful memory.

Matt Taylor

Absolutely the best food and dining experience I've had. The employees were fantastic and courteous. The owner did a lovely table-touch as we complimented her on her wonderful establishment. The food was the best I've ever had. I finally had cabbage that was a pleasure to eat. The fire pit outdoors helped give us something to do after dinner.

Justin Hamblin

We stopped for lunch. Food was really good. My wife and I had the roast beef sandwich. Roast beef was tender and the horseradish sauce went really well on it. The pickled radishes were great. Wish it was either a little bigger or had a more substantive side. Portion size for adults was on the small size. Portion size for the kids menu was good. On the expensive side.

Mike Manns

Phenomenal! No wonder they have won so many awards. Everything was to perfection. Pasole soup, best I've ever had. Backbone house salad with tofu was unique and excellent. Great service and peaceful, serene environment. I am thoroughly impressed!

Tate R

Such fantastic food. This place has it all, service, quality and ambiance. I was blown away with how delicious and fresh everything was. For being in the middle of no-where, this is a splendid treat for even the biggest foodies. Also, the wine list was extensive offering pleanty of all varieties from around the globe. Meal features mostly farm-to-table choices with beautiful outdoor seating. I really enjoyed watching all the hummingbirds feed while I enjoyed my delicious mean and perfectly paired wine. Definitely coming here again and again.

R TS

This place is a cute restaurant. I believe all of the food is organic. The service was great. Very friendly staff and they always made sure we had plenty of water. I ordered the meatloaf. It was good, but I didn't care for the sauce they put on top of it. Someone ordered the trout, which he loved. My daughter ordered the vegan three sisters posole soup. She said it was pretty good, but has had better. I think she was just disappointed that she wanted to mac and cheese but didn't order it and all the other kids were raving about how good it was. My husband ordered the jalapeno and avocado soup. He enjoyed it. It was just a small portion but was enough to satisfy him. They bring out cornbread for the table, which was very good, a little sweat, but everyone seemed to enjoy it. There are not many restaurant options in this town, but this was a good choice. If I come back to this town, I will order the mac and cheese.

sheldon martineau

Met the owner, can not hold a conversation because she thinks she is more important than others. Pretty laughable and the food is not even that good.

MC M

As they say in Utah, “this is the place” - and in this case, to eat. There is no other Beard Award restaraunt in Utah, or one that consistently is awarded anything. The staff are all great, and take pride in the product. Nobody hovers over you or asks “how are we doing” - instead they allow you to eat a meal without trying to be your best new friend. Clearly this attitude starts from the top. Good for them to actually be involved in a great product. They put Boulder on the map. Here’s to many more years.

arm turcotte

Hell's Backbone Grill is worth the trip from anywhere ... delicious, locally sourced food prepared and delivered by friendly folks who treat you like Family ... we'll be back !

Aaron M.

WOW! WOW! WOW! I stopped here with a couple of former co-workers from California and Texas who were on a cross-country motorcycle trip. I had heard great things about this place, so I convinced both of them this was where we needed to eat lunch during our ride along scenic Highway 12. Pulling up on our Harley's, we saw lots of hippy / granola types walking around. Got to the front door and looked over the menu that was posted. Saw a lot of what I thought was going to be "foo-foo" items listed. Boy, were we in for a surprise! We chose a table on the outside patio and enjoyed listening to the wind blow through the cottonwood trees and the babbling of the small stream nearby. Pleasant setting to enjoy our food. Once we saw that they served breakfast until 2:30 PM, we all decided that's what we wanted to eat. Ordered the "Fabulous french toast", the "Bushel of blue corn pancakes", and the "Backbone breakfast". All three meals were OUTSTANDING. The applewood smoked bacon melted on my tongue - seriously. The best bacon I have ever consumed. Meals were served with an artistic flair, and now I know why the hippy / granola types were around. Haha! Ever had scrambled eggs with little purple flower petals on them? Now I have! Also ordered a side of the "Amazing biscuits", which came with several of their housemade butters to sample. All excellent! I would drive the 5 hours back to Boulder from my home just to eat at Hell's Backbone Grill again. Seriously worth the effort to get there, and you won't regret making the trip!

Stephen Kober

Excellent meal and service

Linda Rittenhouse

Great atmosphere, great service and the food was AMAZING. I am from Kansas City, MO and hope to have another opportunity in my lifetime to come back.

Leslie Strauss

Superb farm fresh creative menu.

Melanie Stephenson

Excellent food—consciously sourced with much of it locally raised or grown!! Excellent front of house service too!

Ralf Wilkowski

A neat restaurant with unexpected quality of food, right on the corner of the Burr trail. A very pleasant stop on one of my journeys, this restaurant will definitely see me again. Tad pricey, well worth it.

Robert Lusk

The food was pretty good but the environment and atmosphere is what made Hells Backbone Grill amazing. The staff was friendly and willing to help with recommendations

Kirsti Norton

Wowowow. This was such an amazing meal. I had heard good things and saw the excellent reviews but I was still not prepared! Everything was so delicious and the vegetables tasted SO fresh. I actually enjoyed the entrees more than our desserts, which might be a first for me! The staff was super friendly and accommodating. I can't wait to come back!

Brooke Rupp

Hell’s Backbone definitely lived up to all the hype! We came here for our 5 year anniversary after spending a couple days camping in southern Utah. It’s nice to be able to eat such incredible food but not be in a high brow environment. The small town of Boulder is nestled in such a beautiful location. You couldn’t find a more lovely backdrop for this restaurant/hotel. The service was top notch and the food was fabulous. Meals come with fluffy, buttery biscuits. We ordered their small plate special to start. Delectable. Asparagus with hollandaise sauce. I ordered the Jenchiladas. The creamy, spicy sauce was full of delicious flavor. I ordered both the chicken and vegetarian options and I loved them both. My spouse ordered the trout and enjoyed that as well. We’ll have to plan more southern Utah trips to eat here again.

Isaac Shaughnessy

Home grown everything! Ask for anything with squash and you won’t be disappointed

Ryan Lopatofsky

Talk about an amazing quaint farm that could be considered to be in the middle of nowhere. This is about as close to farm to table as one can get. The food, staff, and farm are absolutely top notch and eloquent. I was on a 1700 mile motorcycle trip through here and could not believe a restaurant this good would be in a place so seclusive as this. A+++

Tom Weissgerber

What a great breakfast place.. don't miss the apple sausage!

Cindy Glaser

Wonderful food, atmosphere and they accommodated our dog on the patio!

April Gardner

One of the finest meals we've had in a long time. The dishes were exceptional and perfectly prepared, from the vegetable sides to the perfect crisp edge on a rare flat iron steak. If you have room for dessert, it's well worth indulging. The wait staff were attentive and knowledgeable for pairing drinks with dishes.

Kay Hargis

Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's good

Nancy Kim

Service was good and food was good as well. Takes a normal breakfast, amps it up a couple notches. Different but familiar foods that taste good!

Teresa Gryder

Excellent fresh southwestern-style food and great sauces. We stopped in here during a hiking/canyoneering tour of southern Utah because of the New Yorker article. Happily I knew the hours and we just made it in time for lunch. After we finished lunch they turned away a steady stream of people wanting a meal, so check the hours! The food was delightful, the hot sauce plenty hot, and you can actually order alcoholic beverages there which are hard to find in rural areas of Utah. The portions are smallish and the prices somewhat high but you can't find anything like it for 100 miles in any direction so you happily pay. Definitely worth a visit for any traveler with the time and money.

Hilary Allen

If negative stars were an option I'd give it a negative 5 stars. The waitress was not personable and the food was so below par for the price point. If you're a granola, that has had your taste buds burned off this is your place. What's below disappointed? Sincerely, the party of 7 with full plates of food left on the table #justgotrobbed #venmomeourfund

Sharon Ehrlich

After hiking slot canyons all day we stopped in here for dinner. Thoroughly surprised by the menu, staff and food. This is such a great restaurant in all ways. The food is beautifully prepared and presented, the staff is attentive and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere warm and inviting. We will most assuredly return on any visit to the area.

Jannen Hermann

After reading an enthralling article in The New Yorker which featured Hell’s Backbone Grill, I traveled to Grand-Staircase Escalante to see what all the buzz was about. I can honestly say that it was worth the 2-hour detour to make a stop at this culinary destination in the small town of Boulder, Utah. The food is locally-sourced, grown in their own garden, and the menu changes seasonally. The restaurant is attached to a lodge next to the National monument. The setting is truly tranquil & a thing of beauty. Eat outside on the patio if the weather permits. Initially, I came for dinner and ordered the calabasitas jenchiladas, which were jaw-droppingly good. In fact, the meal was so delicious and I was so moved by Hell’s Backbone Grill’s dedication to saving the national monument that I returned the following morning for breakfast to show my support. Service was excellent & staff was keen to recommend some of their favorite hikes in the area. I will drive hours out of my way again to visit Hell’s Backbone Grill & Grand-Staircase Escalante. Thank you for serving nourishing meals with a noble cause!

Sharon Kording

A must stop in Boulder. Best food and service have had recently. Fantastic coffee. Wonderful people

Ken Proksa

Farm fresh to table the cuisine and ambiance are fantastic! Had dinner two years ago and had to return on next hiking trip to the Grand Staircase. Can't rave enough about the food and staff. Had trout for dinner and just melted in my mouth. Even the carrots are to die for! A gem that's not to be missed if your anywhere in Southern Utah. Thanks Blake and Jen!

Mike Abdo

Extraordinary food, location and people. I sincerely hope this typifies the future of my home state as we move away from destructive industries to sustainability. You will be delighted with the menu, the service, and the people this business attracts. Don't miss it!

Lori Rawlings

Service was great, the food was fantastic! The lemony cluck was sooo perfect! Braised beef was yummy. The salad was straight from the garden - fresh! You shouldn't pass up dessert! I had the pear gingerbread, OMG good! She had the panna Cotta, so creamy! Thank you for a spectacular dinner! Oh, I almost forgot, the black powder biscuits are to die for!

Sarah Vaca

I wanted to love this place. The atmosphere is charming, and the food was flavorful and well prepared. We had the trout and the lemon chicken, and enjoyed some delicious local beers. our server Kirsten was awesome, and gave us great tips for camping in the area. Sadly, what ruined the experience for us was the extremely rude treatment we received from the bus boy with the velvet blazer, and inflated view of himself. For whatever reason, he was clearly displeased by our presence from the beginning. He literally threw my silverware onto the table in front of me after seating us. Its true that we wandered in off of the trail, so maybe we weren't dressed to his standards, but this is a restaurant in the middle of the desert. I would imagine that hikers make up a large portion of your business. I would never spend $100+ to be treated that way, and can not recommend this to anyone. Get over yourself.

Matthew Barnes

If you're in Boulder, UT or anywhere closer, eat here. Some of the best uses of local and seasonal ingredients I've ever had.

Jennifer Goertz

Very delicious farm to table restaurant. Excellent service.

Julianne Duncan

You can't find better food and service. Outstanding in every way.

Jordan Schermerhorn

It's been several days and I'm still thinking about how damn good their apples & peaches were.

Julie L

A must stop if you are in the area! Cozy and inviting environment. Delicious food too!

joseph sperry

Very much one of the top restaurant experiences of my life. The food is just incredible, all locally sourced and unbelievably delicious. The atmosphere is so friendly and inviting yet incredibly classy and sophisticated. The staff is also amazing, incredibly nice and attentive. Just went tonight and am going again tomorrow for breakfast and dinner!

John Pherson

My girlfriend and I have been desperately searching for brunch places that also actively ward off vampires and boy did we find out spot!! The breakfast was very good and the entire building was vampire free.

Dharmaraj Jeevamani

Don't miss it, if you are in the area. Yes its pricey but worth the price.

Jared Clegg

The avocado jalapeno soup was the best soup that I have ever had in my life. Worth the 4 hour drive. It sits in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The surrounding mountains and desert canyons are awe inspiring. Plenty of places to hike, drive and view. After a day of adventure you need to eat at this restaurant. I have been here twice and loved it both times. I will be returning again. The food is expensive but very worth the price. It is the best restaurant in Utah that I have eaten at. Do yourself a favor and put this place on your bucket list.

Zack Fishman

Best food in America.

kirk daniels

Wow!! This little gem is awesome!! 8 of us on a Harley ride from Indiana and riding north on Hwy 12 from Grand Canyon today. Went looking for a room and dinner for the night.....just happened to run across Boulder Mountain Lodge in Boulder and got a room. Decided to try the resturant because it was close. This resturant is quite a find...... awesome service, drinks and food!! Farm to table and awesome..... I had Hwy 12 Old Fashioned and local beef dinner!! This place would be as good if not better then any place I've been! Highly recommended!! I'll be back!!

Wonderful, locally farmed, freshly prepared food. Great service to boot!

One of the best meals I've had anywhere and found this place totally by accident. If you're anywhere in the area it's worth the trip to Boulder. Awesome farm fresh food.

Mary Crafts

Amazing farm to take food that is sure to please the most discriminating foodie.

Susan Hammond

Friends enthusiastically sent us here and I have to admit I was dubious that the tiny town of Boulder could really produce excellent cuisine....boy was I wrong! The entire experience was exceptional; the delicious menu scratch made and sourced locally, the staff energetic and helpful, the owner paid us a personal visit to be sure we were enjoying ourselves. The setting is gobsmack gorgeous and there are many memorable hikes within minutes of the restaurant. A fantastic experience in a pristine location that the owners are committed to make sure endures.

Food was out of this world good. Worth the $$$. The dark chocolate of the dessert still lingers... Great service by Jessica. The place was crowded. We had made reservations.

Reviews are correct. This place is excellent! Definitely worth a stop if you are looking for fresh, high-quality (but not inexpensive) food and excellent service.

Yep. I'm one of those people that takes photos of really good, really beautiful food. Why no pics from Hell's Backbone? Once I had a bite, there was no stopping! The farm-freshness was absolute perfection. At server Lacy's suggestion, I had the Lemony Cluck and boy, am I glad I did. I know, I know...it's just chicken, right?! Oh my. Hands down the BEST chicken dish I've ever had- seriously EVER! A real lifer and certainly now one of my Top 10 Utah Favs. Every bite clucked full (get it?) of layer after layer of flavor. That classic skin-on grilled flavor paired so beautifully with a buttermilk carrot puree. And that rice. My god, that rice! (I'm literally salivating now.) The staff are so knowledgeable. Where do you possibly find these people in the middle of this isolated paradise?! We were also thrilled to chat with co-owner Blake. Oh wait...did I mention the desserts?! Have one of each. :) Our time here was one of so many priceless moments spent on 1.9million acres of nature's best and a definite DO NOT MISS!

Amazing food. Wonderful service. Not to be missed. Call ahead for reservations.

I had one of the best burgers of my life here. The service was great and the food was AMAZING. I would go back to Utah just to eat here again.

Joseph Cain

Wonderful food, wonderful setting, wonderful people. Can't wait to go back. Especially for Thanksgiving!

Very romantic location nestled between beautiful mountains on a 6-acre farm. Serves seasonal, elegant farm-to-table dishes with a chic, yet comfortable setting. Staff is incredibly friendly and professional. The small plates, entrees, dessert and wine my boyfriend and I had were all divine. Hand-crafted cocktails and regional beers are also available. The restaurant also offers farm-made items like pickled vegetables, jams and sauces, as well as mugs, shirts and other souvenirs. Reservations are recommended as this place is small and fills up fast. If I am ever in the area again I will make it a point to come back - I was actually quite sad to leave!!

High priced Need to make reservations

Wow! Something very special about this place. Very peaceful, open and it seems like the people who work here understand how the world should work, with kindness and the most delicious healthy food you can imagine. Tyler is amazing and gave us tips to a beautiful slot canyon the fiancee and i will never forget. Super duper amazing staff and food! One of the best eats im my life, if not the best. Someone here tapped into the spirit realm of cooking cause its out of this world. Seriously.

Amazing Breakfast!! We came here purely by accident because the scenery was beautiful. We had the shirred eggs and some bacon and it was fantastic! More the portion size we are use to in Australia. Would definitely come back and recommend to anyone. Staff were also excellent!!

Very nice tasty food.

Dan Troff

Great ambiance! Good food and unusual and interesting choices. It's definitely on the pricey side and that may have been okay of we didn't have to wait so long for our food. It wasn't crowded. This is a gem in the wilderness and deserves to be a stop on your way to adventure, but only if you can spare the two hours.

Rodney Michaels

Food is good but the prices are high and the wait for your food is long. If you're looking to stop for a bite and then get on your way then this isn't the best option. The people were nice though.

Gerald Burton

Staff, Owners and management excell and absolutely couldn't be nicer or more accommodating! I ordered their "famous" meatloaf, but it wasn't as good as it should have been! I'd definitely go back, though, when back in the area!!

Niki Crabtree

Group of five of us stopped on our way back from Southern Utah because we'd heard rave reviews about this place. Our waitress, Courtney, was lovely and personable. I got the salad and while it was good, I thought it was quite overpriced and really the quality does not match the price point. It was good, but I wouldn't return.

Joshua Gilbert

Epic atmosphere and delightful cuisine! A wonderful way to wind down after hiking to Calf Creek falls! Loved the food, Love what they stand for, and stand up for! You go girls!

Jeffrey Lane

Amazing food! Amazing people!

Space Ghost

Nice ambience, good food

Eric Ackerly

The best grilled elk I ever had. An award winning restaurant in the middle of some of the most scenic parts of Utah.

Whitney Sanchez

Great atmosphere, great service, great food. We loved every minute and every bite at this fabulous establishment. Everything tasted incredibly fresh from the farm (because it is) and nothing was over salted, sugared, or oiled. Actual home-style cooking. Can't wait to go back!

Alicia Lichtenberger

We loved it! Food and service fantastic.

Parker McBrier

Great spot. Kids have lots of space to run around, and the food is delicious. One of those few places in a beautiful location, in a special part of the world, with great food, that leaves you happy and satisfied.

Debbie Lane

Great drinks and dining.

Drew Patrick

Just a fantastic restaurant! 8 ball squash stuffed with cheese, breadcrumbs, and deliciousness. Cocktails we're terrific, and desserts sublime. White chocolate and apricot fool stole the show. A must visit if you are in the Bryce or Escalate region!

Andrew Verdon
