Fantastic food and service. The salad bar is fresh and delicious, like no other. The breads are house made and come with great spreads. The steaks are to die for and cooked and seasoned to your liking and to perfection. The desserts fall in line. This is a wonderfully managed restaurant.

This was our first time at Taste of Texas; we went there because someone gave us a gift certificate and we had no idea what to expect. On a Tuesday night, the parking lot was full, but there was plenty of parking at the Best Buy right next door. So we went in expecting a long wait and a noisy restaurant (note they do not take reservations) - but we were seated in 5 minutes. And, because the restaurant is HUGE, the floors are carpeted, the ceilings are acoustic tiles, the noise level was not bad at all. We knew, from the menu, that the salad bar was included, but we didn't know how extensive the salad bar was. And we didn't know they would also bring garlic toast and cream cheese spread to the table. As a result, we were pretty stuffed before the main course even arrived. The steaks, and the sides were so amazing we ate most of it anyway. The dessert we had to box up and take home for later. Service was prompt and friendly throughout, we were never left waiting or looking for someone, the manager came by and checked on us... overall a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Their menu is available online and it's a good idea to check that out before you go if it's your first time.

We had an amazing experience! It was our 1st time coming here and we saved it for a special anniversary date night. When we arrived the hostess kindly let us know it would be about a 30 minute wait, with it being a Sunday night and a holiday it was expected. However, we were seated in under 10 mins! Our server, Armando O. was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Our food arrived quickly, the ribeye was cooked perfectly and tasted PHENOMENAL!!! When we finished our meal, we were given the choice for a dessert that came complete with a sparkler! Before we left they gave us a cute thank you card with our picture in it! It was a great visit and we will definitely be coming back!

Great salad bar, great steak, great staff. Bartender took a picture of the couple celebrating their 47th wedding anniversary and gave them the picture, which I thought was so nice. Onky complaint I had was that I wasn't given a napkin or plastic fork for my dessert that I took back to hotel. I didn't think to ask for one, but they should have asked me if I needed one. Would definitely go back when in Houston again.

Wow you definitely get what you pay for. Like any "fancier" steakhouses, you get good food, generous portions, friendly service. But what sets it apart is... 1. Decor - simply put, it's very Texan. 2. Experience - staff is extra friendly, greeting you at every turn, they literally walk you through everything and you can even pick your steak. Very fun and unique. If you want to celebrate something big, you should go here. *Pictured: center-cut filet with complementary bacon wrapped around cooked medium.

What's there to say? Taste of Texas is the gold standard for a Texas steakhouse. Sure you might be able to find a special dry age steak other places but if you want a fantastic steak and salad bar there is no better place in Houston.

Our family has been dining at TOT for over 20 years and they are hands down, THE BEST family steakhouse in Houston! They provide complimentary sodas, chips & salsa, and popcorn while you wait for your table. Their service is very professional, personable, and quick! I may have had only one time I can remember where. I had an issue with rudeness or attitude from a manager/hostess, but that doesn't take away from the service we had at the table. There are long lines if you don't get there early. Have a great amount of patience during busy weekend times or get there early. Their salad buffet is huge and their assortment of breads include mini white loaf, corn bread, and a cheesy roll bread. As if that wasn't enough their steaks are made perfectly according tp your wishes. Their desserts are huge and alcoholic/wine selections are vast! If I could give them 10 stars, I would! Happy eating!

Celebrated the Mother’s day there. It was my second time to visit. Very thing was fine except the porterhouse steak was undercooked, especially near the bone. The meat was actually raw not median rare. The taste is extraordinary though.

Awesome. My wife and I went here for our anniversary. They did an amazing job with the waitstaff and the food was top notch. We decided to split a Tomahawk steak (something we heard the table next to us doing) and it was great. Definitely enough food for the both of us. We also visited the salad bar which had a great selection of vegetables, dressings, bread, and other assorted sides. I would definitely recommend coming out and our goal is to come back each year at least.

The steaks we had at this restaurant were amazing. Perfectly cooked, very tender and delicious. If you want, you can even select exactly which steak you want from the butcher section. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful.

The salad was also impressive, but I would advise you to go easy on the salad bar as the portions are large. I was blown away!!! The Salad Bar is the best you will ever see, with very fresh ingredients, chilled plates, and a selection of bread rolls and cornbread that melt in your mouth. So this place doesn't take reservations... we went on a Thursday night at 8 and there was a 20 minute wait. Waiter was friendly and the salad bar is pretty good. I love the restrooms but I'm not a huge fan of the decor for such an upscale restaurant. I ordered filet with bone and mac and cheese (yummy)... they wouldn't make it medium plus, so I got medium well. It was tender but could have been more juicy. Too full for dessert. The place was overall good but not the best I have ever had in terms of food, service etc. It's not that romantic or intimate for a date night... it's quite crowded and noisy.

I was looking forward to repeating my incredible experience as usual with my co-workers. Unfortunately, to my surprise this was not at all the end result. I must say the waitress was superb she was very attentive, professional, and classy at that. I can honestly say the grilled jumbo shrimp platter was bland and tasteless. These was no seasoning at all, I even asked for garlic butter to add and it still did not make a difference. For a $30.00 plate I would expect to have a much better shrimp plate. I enjoyed the bread and garden salad much more. Not a wow factor for sure this time around.

Excellent food! Best steak ever. We tried cowboy steak and New York strip. Tomahawk steak looks very serious - come hungry or leave with a to-go bag. Salad bar is top notch. Fresh bread. Deserts are special. Try the pecan pie and cinnamon ice cream. Enough to share in - one slice we fed 4 people! The service was extraordinary. If you are looking for a special celebration dinner, this is it! Kids menu pleases the younger crowd.

I should give it four stars as I seem to always be treating three to five people, but they all enjoy the food here and the service, so how can I be stingy with the stars? The salad bar always provides a wide range of healthy choices that should accommodate any particular dietary restrictions. I have never ordered a steak, though I have been here perhaps ten times, but, as stated, my fellow diners look forward to any celebratory justification to drop in. Extensive, well-mannered and competent staff always ready to provide the ideal dining experience. No reservations are accepted, so be careful around some holidays and graduation times as the wait can be substantial. All other times, the wait is acceptable.

First visit for lunch and Tasha made the experience amazing. Unfortunately I wasn't ready for dinner, but I definitely took advantage of the salad bar. Tasha made sure we were pleased with our meals or we could send it back. Everything was tasteful and filling. We made happy plates!! Although, when asked if we needed anything we did ask for a Tesla. This is where Tasha didn't deliver.

GREAT EXPERIENCE! Had one of the best steaks. 36 oz Ribeye. They let you go back and tell what size you want and they cut it for you. I loved it. The service staff was 5 star! Xavier was our server. Got the 14oz center cut filet wrapped in bacon with garlic mashed potatoes for the side, both were pretty much perfect. Ordered the key lime pie for dessert and it was good but parts of it had an off putting flavor like it had been uncovered in the fridge and absorbed other flavors. I'll still go back and give the desserts another shot.

What's not to love? Impeccable service and waitstaff, perfectly attentive without being annoying- one of the best and freshest salad bars you'll come across, all ingredients taste and look fresh and are regularly attended to. If you need help with the menu the staff is well educated in their menu and what they have and what you might be interested in. They are very committed to student education- as a former student in 3rd grade we came for a tour and to learn about the restaurant industry and it's one of my favorite memories here. It's reliable and always great service- love going here and will definitely be back.

Was in town for a quick weekend trip. Met up with a friend at the Taste of Texas for a memorable meal before heading out. I have been to the Taste of Texas since the 3rd grade as a field trip. To this day I still remember the joke they told about how they made the Steak and Ale down I-10 go out of business. The salad bar and bread station are top notch as always. A quick tip, sharing a steak with 2 people and getting a salad bar/one side combo is a wonderful way to eat here without the food coma after. The steaks are a decent size and the shared NY steak was cooked to perfection.

Had just about every steak here and they are all cooked to perfection. I usually go with the prime rib cause that's my favorite. Salad bar is okay. You can drink soda and eat chips while you wait for your table which is nice.

Went there on a business lunch after several years of absenense. My lunch partner had flown in from international locations to meet with me regarding numerous projects, some of which located in his country of residence. So, the ambiance and food was of high priority. Taste Of Texas did not let me down! After over 3 hours of business discussions and impeccable food served without a hitch, a very large deal was consummated, and remarkable admissions from the other side of the table that he actually capitulated the deal's sticking points after his first bite of the steak he was served. WELL DONE TASTE OF TEXAS!!!

I went there last night to celebrate our 4 year anniversary, everyone I know raves about this place. We just moved to Houston and I have to say I was a bit disappointed.. Our steak was so tough, slightly over cooked. We ate some of it and took it home for the dogs. Although our waiter was amazing!! I give him 5 stars for sure!! Robert was there when we needed him but wasn’t hovering all the time! He made a great wine recommendation! By the way I’d like to see their wine program get a better selection.

The food is on the pricier side and the wait might be a bit long. They have a waiting room with snacks that includes popcorn and chips and salsa. There are also a variety of drinks to choose from while you wait. All complimentary. Parking is limited during the their peak dinner hours. The service is amazing and top notch. They want to make sure that you enjoy your steak and you even get to pick out your steak! The salad bar is amazing, above and beyond. You have to grate your own cheese from this huge block of cheese. They have a great variety of breads and spreads to go with it. Definitely a great place to celebrate special occasions.

Not only was the service absolutely perfect but the food was incredible! I got a delicious birthday dessert as well as she took our picture and gave it to me in a Taste of Texas birthday card. I go for the steak, some folks like the salad bar, the place is always busy atmosphere is reserved but not prudish Servers could hold back somewhat, they get a little annoying, checking in is great but it makes it difficult to enjoy those you are spending quality food and time.

This place was a amazing. The staff was very nice and the food was very tasty!!! The wait time isn't long if you go during their off hours and even if we did wait I'd say it's worth it. The place is a bit pricey for me, but totally worth it for the quality and amount of food you are getting. While you wait you can visit their gift shop and buy certain cuts to go. You can also treat yourself to popcorn while you are waiting to be seated. Go on an empty stomach because they have a free salad bar and unlimited bread with every steak purchase.

Have to wait for over an hour on a Friday night. There is a waiting area where guests can enjoy soda and fresh chips. Live the ability to choose your own cut and weight. Highly recommend the tomahawk which was rich and delicious, making the porterhouse slightly less flavourful. Recommend coming on a weekend where the wait could be shorter.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. The decor and the atmosphere are phenomenal. As a descendant of the original inhabitants of Texas (we were actually Mexican before Texans), I appreciate the rich Texas history displayed throughout the restaurant. Obviously, the food and the service is top-notch, but the overall experience is enriching if one takes the time to observe and read what is on display. It's almost like visiting a dynamic museum that has life lessons on the walls. Of course, being a Texan, I may be a little biased. However, I think if you look at the quality of the food, the atmosphere in which it is presented, the service of the staff, and the presentation of the food, one would only conclude(being Texan or not), that this is a fine establishment and worthy of one's dining experience. Try not to just eat and run folks! Walk around and enjoy the decor and read some of the letters from the ancients of Texas.

This used to be my dad's favorite place to eat and he knew the owners, who were great Texas history buffs. In fact, the owner gives Texas history talks to school kids who come to the restaurant. This is a good, solid place for dependably very good to excellent food such as steaks and various soups and salads. It's not cheap, but neither is is exhorbitant. It's also not terrible adventurous, which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. But it's dang good.

We were there celebrating a family birthday with our elderly grandmother, who is a very picky eater. She wanted to get chicken fingers, which are on the kid's menu. Taste of Texas literally refused to serve her chicken fingers at any price. We offered to pay for a normal adult meal if they would just serve her chicken fingers. Multiple managers refused to accommodate this very reasonable request. We walked out.

Went to Taste of Texas for a birthday celebration. After being seated, the hostess came back and asked us to leave. Without explanation, they told us our party of 11 (which included an infant), exceeded the capacity of our table. After asking to speak to a manager, the situation worsened. Hoping to get some clarity, the manager came out and essentially accused our party of lying about the table count as if there was any motive. Needless to say, we left. This is what happens to a restaurant when they get complacent in their status: a total decline of courtesy, customer service and overall basic decency. I would have given less stars had that been allowed.

Great experience and food. Place felt authentic with historical stuff on the wall. First timer get a handkerchief and photo opp using a cowboy hat. Food pricing on higher side by local standard. Love the salad bar (complimentary if you get the steak or main, which makes the pricing good! Enjoyed my well prepared slow cook prime cut. It was delicious.

Initially, I was going to rate this establishment a 4/5. This was my family's 1st time dining experience here. After dinner, my 2 yr old son was getting restless. Therefore, I asked my wife to stay behind to pay the bill, so that I could take my son to the car. However, I felt as if I was profiled during my exit from the restaurant. I was followed to my car by security as well as someone else other than our waiter picked up the check. This all made me feel really uncomfortable. Lastly, the racial diversity mix amongst the front line wait staff was not readily seen to service a diverse customer base that Houston has to offer.

Loved the food. Great service. They do a little something special for out of town people:). The porterhouse was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. They cuz table side for us so that we could share it. The salad bar was awesome, so many choices! Would definitely come back if we are in the area.

GREAT EXPERIENCE! Had one of the best steaks. 36 oz Ribeye. They let you go back and tell what size you want and they cut it for you. I loved it. The service staff was 5 star! Xavier was our server. He sets the bar for what a server should be! The management was always in eyesight and very attentive. Highly recommend!

We came here for our 3 year anniversary. The host was lovely initially coming in while giving us a tour. We sat at our seats and Anita was our server. She was great! She gave us suggestions and was attentive. We were able to go back to the kitchen and pick our steak. Once our food arrived Anita asked to check if our steak was cooked to our liking, something I really appreciated. Our dessert was complimentary and they even took a picture of us that we got to keep. This was by far one of my favorite experience! Please bring Taste of Texas to Chicago!

The Entrees and Sides were the best we've ever had in our lives. (Center cut filet with mushrooms). The salad bar has a good variety and is very fresh. The service was amazing (Waiter was Jason R). It's a little pricey but definetly worth it. Just the fact that they don't take reservations on Saturday and therefore a wait time of about an Hour were a little minus.

High quality steaks and an amazing salad bar. The asiago cheese rolls should be illegal they are so good. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and our waiter, Jason R., was very attentive and made our dinner very enjoyable. Love going to this place for a nice evening out. We usually go for our anniversary in November and it is always decorated with beautiful Christmas decorations. We went for my birthday this year and it’s just as beautiful. Love the salad bar with tons of options. I tired the salmon this time instead of a steak and I was not disappointed. It was a nice change if you are craving something besides a steak. Had the key lime pie for dessert and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Will definitely be back for many more celebrations.

If you are looking for a place to wow someone with true Texas decor and/or celebrate a special event, Taste of Texas is a great place. The steaks are fresh and cooked right, the sides are good too. It's a great steak for the price, falls a little short of being the best steak in Houston, but it's the over-all experience that brings it home.

We ate here on our anniversary and it was the best dining experience we've had in quite a while. Everyone we encountered was professional and friendly, from employees welcoming us on the way to our table, to the manager checking in, to the guy who brought us our steak. Our server was fantastic, making suggestions when we asked and he did not let us down. The baked brie appetizer was delicious and the salad bar was well stocked. We split a porterhouse steak, added a side, and had enough leftovers to bring home for dinner the next night. Because it was our anniversary, they gave us a free dessert. We chose the key lime pie with, at the suggestion of our server, a raspberry glaze and it was amazing. They also took a picture for us and sent us home with a print. Every little detail seemed very thought out. One thing I will note is that we were both told to help ourselves to the salad bar, but we weren't told that the second salad would be an extra $12. It was a little confusing because it seemed that the server was implying that we could both get a salad with the meal. Of course, we could have asked if it was an extra charge, and common sense told us we'd probably have to pay for it and we were fine with that. However, that particular cost was unclear up front and while we weren't surprised to see it on our bill at the end, it would've been helpful if our server had mentioned that the salad cost extra, just to clear up any confusion. Given that it was a special occasion and we got a free dessert, this wasn't a big deal to us but it's something to keep in mind if you share a meal.

My first time here. I would give it zero stars if possible. I waited a long time to be welcomed and seated. Once seated I was there 10 minutes and still no water. This was a very hot August day. I stood up and complained to the barman who was the only person there and he looked at me and just shrugged his shoulders. Didn't utter a word didn't attempt to get me a waiter. Nothing. Clearly couldn't care less. I walked out and took my money elsewhere. I don't recommend.

From the moment you walk in every staff member is extremely polite and very knowledgeable about not only the selection of meats and wines but the History of Texas as well. The owner I got a chance to meet at a church function in Kingwood and he has an interesting story and a life changing event. Him and his wife are wonderful people and this location by far has some of the best selection of USDA Prime American raised grass fed beef in the great state of Texas. P.S. I love all the Texas Rangers (DPS)memorabilia.

Fancy American steakhouse with loads of vegetarian and seafood options for those who don't prefer meat. I usually go for just the salad bar during lunch and it's $11.99 all you can eat, so delicious. For dinner I usually get the grilled shrimp entree which was delicious as they cook it with butter! Love this place for the quality and options!

We were two adults and three children age 1, 4, and 8. We were given a 30-45 minute wait time. It took 1 hour and 5 minutes. It took two hours to serve our food from start to finish. Way to long for children. This is the only thing that needs improvement. Thank goodness the kids were so good and patient.

It's the Taste of Texas. If there were 6 stars that's what they'd get. Make sure you choose your own steak, if only to get the full experience. At the salad bar, make sure to get the cheese bun and if you like corn bread get that too. Don't avoid the breads, they're worth eating.

It was perfectly cooked, a little heavy on the pineapple-flavored marinade, but I think I was just surprised as I had not noted that it was a pineapple marinade before ordering. It was our first time coming and I was a little apprehensive because I've had some bad experiences at high-end steakhouses before...I'm looking at you Maestros. But everyone who works here...I mean EVERY LAST PERSON was accommodating and friendly as hell! My brother and I were so pleased with this place. Our server, was super friendly and kind and just made my birthday dinner excellent. We're planning to make this a monthly outing based on the service alone. And don't get me started on the food... We shared a cowboy steak that my brother happily picked out because he's a carnivore and a guy so why not?! We ordered crab cakes as an appetizer, wedge salads, Mac and cheese and a sweet potato. The meal was just delicious. Nothing bad to say about this place. I would HIGHLY recommend this place! Worth every cent!

We love taste of Texas! First let’s start with customer service, from the moment you walk in you are warmly welcomed and taken care of. After being seated we were immediately helped with beverages and brought amazing Texas toast and a Spivey sweet spread! Mmm. I love being able to select my own steak and also enjoy the salad bar as the steak cooks in the back. And these steaks are delicious and well priced!! Would come here over papas steaks any day! Make sure you get reservations as this place gets packed pretty quick.

Edited: Highly recommend. Good dining experience. The salad bar is not to be beaten. The atmosphere is very welcoming. Great collection of antique guns on the wall, along with other regional items. This place screams "Texas!!" The bread and cheeses are wonderful, as are the desserts. Most menu items are first class in taste and presentation. Service was spot-on. Jonathan was our server. He was wonderful and accommodating. I visit this restaurant once a year, and it's always great. Steaks are wonderful, though not at the top of my list. My previous review somewhat bashed the taste, but it really boils down to my personal preference, and my previous review was unfair. Highly recommend.

Customer service is excellent! Food is delicious! The salad bar is amazing... I know a salad bar... but it is so good. They have so many flavorful toppings that are unique to Taste of Texas. We tried the quail for an appetizer (something different for us), it was highly recommended and it was good with their Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce. The Texas Punch was a great cocktail. My husband got a bone-in filet and got to pick his own steak, it came with sizzling garlic butter on the top and was fantastic. I got tenderloin medallions and they were good but his steak was better. Save room for dessert! The New York style cheesecake was awesome, the creme brulee-phenomenal! The atmosphere is laid back and family friendly. Several families were around celebrating birthdays and there were many with kids. The website suggested business casual but most people were dressed casually and it was a saturday night.

I've lived all my life in Texas and in every major metropolitan area in the state. You can get a good steak almost anywhere. Taste of Texas has one thing that I think is truly original. You can go pick out your own steak. Yes the salad bar is amazing. Yes the rolls are awesome. It's the picking out my own steak that I think really sets this place apart. Try it out the next time you are in town. One note: be prepared to wait. There are no reservations and it might take a while if they're busy.

The filet mignon was delicious, cooked to perfection, with a scrumptious blue cheese butter. The salad bar, where lacking in numerous options, is far superior to any other in freshness. I love the huge slabs of cheese, where I can carve my own slices. The fresh bread selection is wonderful . The service is outstanding, staff was courteous and attentive. It is no wonder that this place is one the the best restaurants in Houston.

Truly one of the best experiences you can have. The prices are very reasonable considering the atmosphere and the level of hospitality they strive to provide each customer. A manager always stops by and asks how your experience has been. The chocolate cake is huge and can be shared by 2 or 3 people. Overall as good as it gets.

Amazing place to go for special occasions, the whole staff is helpful. Sure the wait time can be very long sometimes, but what do you expect from a nice and friendly restaurant like this. They even have a waiting area with free chips,salsa, popcorns and fountain drinks to munch on while you wait. Wonderful service and great staff. And after your meal the manager personally comes up to you and asks for comments or concerns though we’ve never had any.
