REVIEWS OF Hut's Hamburgers IN Texas

Julia Nikitina

Humburge was delicious, fast service, interior of American style.

Sue Craig

Best burgers! Nostalgic place. So sorry that it will be closing in the fall.

Allison Betancourt

Solid burger the onion rings were great. They had pepper in the batter add a bit of extra flavor. A quarter size order gave me two umbo rings which was a perfect amount. Check out the Austin staple while you can. This restaurant is set to close in October.

Richard Rae

I'm going to miss this place when it's gone, some of the best burgers in town

Zachary Dusseau

Firstly, I’ve been sick with a stomachache for the last 4/5hrs after eating here, never happens to me. Secondly, the burger & fries weren’t very good, I’d say well below average. Disappointing for a place that’s known for their burgers.

Lori Reese

Huts, a soon to be gone icon. You always know what your favorite burger is going to taste like and it's always awesome. The rings and fries are some of the best. The shakes to die for. I'm sorry it's closing, like so many of our places. Oh, well.

Trevor DeMartini

We were the last customers before closing time but they still were very nice and the burgers were great. They even had a Michael Jackson dance party with my 2 year old son. It was fun!

Sheldon McCarthy

OVER PRICED FOOD! Everyone knows food at the airport is going to be more expensive than anywhere else, but this place is ridiculous. $16 for a bacon egg and cheese sandwich that costs $4 outside the airport?! Maybe they should close the airport location too. Food is not worth the price they charge.

Anthony Contreras

Always Delicious food! Hate to see another uniquely Austin Restaurant closing soon! Grab a burger and Onion rings before your only option will be Hut's at the Austin Airport!!

Blondie

The only good thing about this place is the meat on the burgers is truly delicious. However everything else is horrible. The fries are bad the onion rings are gross, the malts were tiny. Everything was super overpriced, for the quantity. The waiter we had was moody and rude and hardly refilled our drinks. Terrible experience; don’t know why this place got such great reviews. Your better off not going here!

Saideep Vollala

Really good shakes but veggie burgers are mediocre

Kerosene Autobahn

This one's gonna be short. I have no idea why this place has high reviews or good comments, the only thing I can say is that the waitstaff and the kitchen must have had the D team staffed. The burger was simply not good, on the dry side and lacking flavor. Perhaps that's why they have all the burger topping combos, to make up for a bad patty. Too bad cuz it's a cool building in a great location.

Leander Local

So fantastically yummy!! So sad that yall are closing and wished you could stay! Awesome burgers and the shakes are to die for!! Super cool atmosphere and not bad priced.

jenny spytek

So amazing. SO sad they are closing in October 2019. An Austin original and staple

Gloria

Food was delicious as usual service was slow but I guess because the place was packed

Helided Reyes

I know their meat is fresh I loves that ,but honestly to my preference it lacked seasoning options and a bit high priced for the flavor. Willing to give it one more try on a different menu option.

Mike Holp

The original Hut’s Hamburgers opened in 1939 on South Congress before it moved to West 6th Street in 1969. Current owners Mike and Kim Hutchinson took over in 1981. It’s known for its burgers, fries, onion rings, and milkshakes. This location is closing on October 20th. Grab a meal before it’s too late!

Robert N

Top notch as always!!! Gonna miss you guys when y'all close!

Kevin Dunworth

Outstanding. Do yourself a favor and go there before it is closes. It is what Austin was before the bankers and lawyers took over. Taste the hamburgers sip the shakes and drink in the decor. It is a history lesson on what we were and what we have lost. Check out the pic of stevey ray on stage with a huts tshirt on. Austin!

Harry Vine

Wonderful as always. So sad they are closing Oct. 20.

Stuart Rennie

Excellent experience. Buffalo burger was amazing. Biggest onion rings I’ve seen. Each one is around 1.5-2” tall...HUGE. Disappointed that they charge you for ranch dressing, then bring you a tiny portion. Service was great and so was the food.

kris schludermann

Burger was good, service was terrible. 5 min after I paid the check, the waitress and staff repeatedly harassed me about my large bag in a lightly occupied restaurant during midweek afternoon. They should close.

Donna Pierce

An Iconic Austin Burger Joint. Stevie Ray Vaughan was a fan of Huts too. Good burgers and onion rings!

Thradic

My time with Hut's was short, I only ate there once in 2017. Two years later I still wake up craving the onion rings. They were the best I've ever eaten. Tell me your secrets before I go mad!

Richard Ratcliffe

Always great food and staff. Going to miss Huts when it's gone. One of my favorite places since I moved to Austin in 87.

Tania Romero

OMG!! First time here with my family. We came from Dallas to do a job we had and we were hungry...super delicious our waiter was awsome... definitely coming back again!!!

Dan Mills

Great Sorry to see it close Have been eating there foro over 30 years

Rich Allen

A friend who grew up here raved about this place as she has fond memories of it when she was much younger. With it having no nostalgia for me, I can't give it 5 stars, it only earns 4 stars because the $3.75 half order of (6) onion rings are AWESOME (for 2 people)! The $8.50 Wolf Man Jack burgers were much smaller than she remembers. They tasted ok, but nothing spectacular, and the $3.95 milkshake was just a typical boring milkshake. Other than the history, it doesn't compare favorably to closely priced Red Robin, who has delicious hamburgers, good (albeit slightly more expensive) onion rings, and REAL chocolate milkshakes, where you get the glass, and another glass worth in the stainless steel container it was mixed in.

Kaden Todd

american food... very tasty. Visited on Fri I believe. The service was very welcoming and observant. The bill was reasonable I would say.

Jessie Villareal

I like the place , food was good, I only try out a hamburger. Service was polite but took to long for a refill. Already finished my food then I was ask.

May Ooi

This is not the best burger place in town. If you had hopdoddys before, that's way better. Patty is dry and I'm sorry, but it's almost like a P.Terry's burger for me. Milkshake is way too sweet. Not best experience and it's definitely just OK.

Jalen Falcon

I had Hut’s for the first time a few weeks back and it was incredible. The staff was very friendly, and the food came out pretty fast. I’m going to miss this place’

Timothy Marques

Wonderful iconic Austin spot. Great list of burgers, hot dog, and other diner items to choose from. They also have a tasty selection of milkshakes that are made to order, as well as offering a daily special everyday as well. If you are looking for that old school diner feel with delicious food, I highly recommend this spot.

Lloyd LeBlanc

Very good burger at an iconic place during it's swan song.

David vO

I love this place, the staff were fantastic! I have not been here for about twenty years and it is still "old Austin", serving delicious comfort food, filled with both old and young beautiful people. And I will say it again it truly is one of the old Austin hangouts and if you can, after eating try the milkshake with the blended brownie oh my God! Absolutely fabulous! I will be returning soon LOL!

Rick Puhala

Always first rate, great service. Beef was fantastic. Onion rings are huge and meaty, not all batter! Shakes are rich and creamy good. Get there before October, another piece of old Austin fading away. Get Some Soon, before it's gone!

Geoffrey Bretches

What a cool place. Not much parking, like none. Looks like a dive from outside. However, from the inside its really cool, comfortable, and fun. Has a pub, hangout feel. Burgers are really good and they run specials. Give it a shot. It's Austin iconic.

Jenny Ragan

Love love love Huts! So much history and great food. Best mushroom burger in town, and they have great shakes and malts too.

Evan King

Great food, great service, even on a busy Saturday.

Brenda Saxon

I love this place. Food, atmosphere & price - Hut’s checks all the boxes. My fav is the Chubby Chuck w/mayo.

Greg Chlapek

Dang, I love Hut's, I'm sad it's closing down. Good burgers and sides. You should go in its last month. Try the fried pickles, they're awesome!

Susan Hammack

Been savoring everything they serve since I got to Austin in 1966. Seems like Everytime is better than the last. This mushroom burger took me to gustatory heights of rapture I can't even describe. And the onion rings were as usual REAL and delicious.

Eric Velasquéz

I love the look of this place and the burgers. You just cant go wrong here.

Kimberly Hawkins

They're closing in a few weeks, which is probably why the service left alot to be desired. This was the last hurrah. Great onion rings.

jermzdubstep

Nice menu. The homemade hickory sauce was awesome. Waiter was great as well!

Sherrl Carpenter

So sad in Oct. This stable Austin icon is closing...try the make your own bison burger. Yum. Hutch, the owner waited on us and it was great remebering all my times here

David Silva

Great variety of burgers. Also good daily specials including sandwiches, meatloaf, and other foods besides burgers. Great onion rings. Good staff and fun atmosphere.

Steve Duffy

Too bad it's going away. Awesome burgers, fries, onion rings, and shakes. Tons of memories are going away. Been a customer since 1997.

Weston Sythoff

Food has always been just meh, but the decor and the history will be missed.

Sam Edwards

We were in town for the day and found this small place amidst all the tall buildings in downtown. It is the perfect old school burger joint, good burgers, shakes, good service and lots and lots of 80+ years of history on display. We enjoyed the experience.

Jay S

We were so pleased to have caught this gem before a legacy ends. Food was delicious, flavorful and quick to deliver.

lstallberg

This is one of Austin's great little finds on 6th St. We've been before. There's not much for a parking lot, so hopefully you'll find street parking. If you do you'll need to pay. There's an app you can pay on, or with your credit card at the stand. This place is old, but the food is really good. They are known for their burgers, but they also have some standard diner food. We for burgers (except my youngest kid who got mini corn dogs - he didn't like those). We ordered a half and half of fries and onion rings. The rings are HUGE! Almost too big. But really good. The fries are really good too. You can also get different meats for your burger, like bison or longhorn. We had great service and great food. My only complaint is the restroom is so small. I hear they're closing this year, so get there before they're gone. I think they'll still have a location at the airport.

Steven Meltzer

This is just the sort of review I hate to write. Hut’s has a plethora of very positive reviews, a devoted following and a menu that is mouthwatering. As we walked in, we could see delicious appearing burgers and onion rings on many tables. But the burger we had was overcooked, flavorless and had an almost gritty texture. The buns were of no particular note and the onion rings, tho’ they were gorgeous to behold, had no flavor whatsoever. When I have a great onion ring (like at a top flight steak house) the last thing I want is ketchup. Here, the first thing I went for was the ketchup. Despite the hype and great service, Hut’s was a major disappointment. My wife said she’d give it a “1”, but I’m writing the review, so they get a “2”.

Dave Read

We came to bid a find farewell to Hut’a. I haven’t been here in 20 years or more, which is probably a clear sign as to why it’s closing. That said, we had a great time, a great meal (Wollman Jack burger for me!), and enjoyed all the things I have loved about it over the years. If you haven’t been on a while, hurry on in. And if you haven never eaten at Hut’s, don’t miss the chance!

Michael Tansey

Mediocre is being nice. $31 for two burgers with soggy buns and a grilled cheese. She had a #20 classic Buddy Holly and the patty was cooked right but in the ten minute drive home it sogged out. Same with my #10 Fats Domino burger. Mine was over seasoned and way over cooked. Also soggy af. Guess we didn't miss anything important by not going until the last leg of the run. The fries were edible, not memorable. Waste of money IMHO.

Andrew McBurney

Awesome hamburgers, sandwiches! Their onion rings are famous. They have said they're closing for good in October, so get there while you can!

Lance Lubin

Huts. The original, the iconic, an Austin institution. Lots on the menu, but it's all about the hamburgers. 20 different ways. By the way, don't miss the number 20 burger, its the classic. The fries are great too. They say the chicken fried steak is great, but can never NOT have the burger. Funky Austin weird decor. It's a must stop if you come to Austin. Don't miss it. If you want health food, you can go to Whole Foods. This is about Good food

Dave Crist

I haven't been there since the early 80s. Fries not good - limp and greasy. Onion rings better but crust too thick and not much taste. Burger was pretty good. Otherwise, crowded, hot and uncomfortable. Not what I remember.

Kai Alejandro

Amazing food, make sure you want what youre ordering for sure so you dont end up with something you wont like. was not very sanitary but otherwise hospitable. very crowded but was not a problem.

Demetria Greene

The Building smells old and dusty. When I looked around I figured out why. The pendants hanging from the ceiling and walls are dusty and filthy. The burgers were ok. The onion rings were not seasoned and fried way too hard and the fries were limp and undercooked. The service met the minimum standard. The Hut has poor parking and the food isn't worth the hassle. Don't waste your time or your money. Take a pass or you'll wish you had.

Laura Eichner

Hamburger not quite as well done as I would have liked. Love the atmosphere. Shake was awesome!

Cyrus Baty

We all had Sunday open and unanimously chose Hut's, since we had been hoping to get one last burger together there before it fades into memory like so many other old-time Austin institutions. Lucked into a couple of parking spots close to the door at just past noon on Sunday. Enjoyed several varieties of burgers with fries and awesome onion rings and a few shakes. Our youngster enjoyed his mini corn dog plate. My Mr Blue was possibly the best I have ever had of many over the years. Those who opted for the Wolfman Jack seemed equally happy with their choices. There may be plenty of other burger joints in Austin, but there will never be another HUT's

Jo Smo

Best burger in town and a landmark in Austin. This is by far my favorite hamburger in this city. Try one before it is to late. The best onion rings you have had and don't forget to sprinkle the hot sauce on the rings. The hot sauce and the rings we made for each other.

Temple Spencer

Delicious burgers with a mixed crowd of interesting people. Excellent service too!

Lisa Robertson

At first I was really sad to see Hut's coming to an end ... So naturally i take the family to go eat there. What a horrible decision and waste of money... I am actually mad that I spent $40 on 2 hamburger (sub par) 1 chili cheese dog, an order of onion rings (horribly over cooked with no flavor) and a order of fries (again horribly over cooked with no taste)... Super disappointed in the food and the service with them forgetting to give us our whole order... If I could get a refund that would be great. Dont waste your time or money unless you want horribly bland sub par food that is over cooked.

Corey Nation

II highly recommend the bison burger, for the short time that they will remain open. It is a very sad thing I must report or confirm, that they will be closing in late October.

Felix Trujillo

Good burgers. Decent Fries. Fun atmosphere. Parking is tight. Quick service. Ketchup bottles a bit sticky.

Amy Caswell

Great burgers! Go get some before they close on Oct 20th.

Paul C

An old school Austin institution. Go before they close so you can say "I had a Huts hamburger".

Holly Blaha

Sad to know this place is closing down forever. The food was great, my daughter LOVED their chili (said it was better than my own homemade chili

Elizabeth Baty

This place was absolutely fantastic! The food was fairly priced, the service was kind and quick, the food was on point and it had a great "feel" to it! I wish I would have known about this place sooner!

Amanda A

Its unfortunate to say that the burger and onion rings were lacking much flavor. Service was ok. Sweet tea was fresh and delicious. Glad my out of town company enjoyed it but as a local I haven't been missing on much. I sure was looking forward to some to-die-for food as this business will be closing it's doors soon.

Mario Zendejas

I love Hut's Hamburgers. It's a classic restaurant here in Austin. They have been around for a long time and for good reason. Their burgers are delicious, and they are know for their famous humongous onion rings. You can never go wrong when you eat here.

Trey Roberts

Sorry to see this place leave. Its been a staple for my 25 years in Austin. They were pretty much the only place for Buffalo burgers in the mid 90s and I remember coming here when people were actually trying to wear flanel herr in Austin.

Renee Wahlheim

Delicious selection. Historic. Cute. Busy. Worth going!

Cristina Sanchez

Good burgers and fun nostalgia. Been going here since I was a toddler and I'm sad to see it go. :(

Rick Guzman

Great place! Truly Austin iconic. Sad to see it go.

Jonathan Slocum

Hamburger was great, as always. French Fries were, alas, too crisp and hard (so -1 star).

A Mw

Despite seeing a German roach on the table I still ate here.. I wanted to leave soo bad but my friends insisted we stay. Should’ve just left because the food was mediocre at best! I get it that most restaurants will have some sort of pest but if they’re coming out in the daytime, that’s a problem. The roach could have easily crawled on my food. Never again. If this place is indeed closing it’s probably for the best!

Jeanine Yost

Excellent!!! I'm sad that this place is closing in October. So I will be visiting as often as possible before that happens. It's a great place to grab a delicious burger. Yum!

Cathy P. Jones

My favorite hamburger is the Wolfman Jack and the onion rings are so good! It's an Austin icon.

Jc Sanders

Love this place! Sorry it will be closing its doors in October. Hut's we will miss you!

Tom Hallberg

Hut's Hamburgers is an Austin original. I have eaten there at least 100 times in the past 25 years. As much as Austin has changed in 25 years, Hut's is pretty much the same. College pennants from schools around the country line the walls. More burger choices than I can remember. "Hut's Favorite" and the "Buddy Holly" are a couple of my favorites. You can customize your burger with choice of patty. Beef, Buffalo, and Chicken are all options. Need a gluten free bun? They have those too. For an appetizer, try the fried pickle chips. They come with a few fries and a side of Ranch dressing. Add a shake or malt, and your meal is complete. If you are looking for a great burger and a dining experience, you can't go wrong with Hut's. Skip the trendy national chains and help keep this original around for a long time.

Wes Bash

Burger was past well done, no flavor. Fries were cold when they arrived. The onion rings were the absolute worst I have ever had.

Trey Bell

I walk in to a bustling restaurant with a older dinner with flare feel, greeted with a smile and was able to grab a spot at the bar. Bartender was friendly and charismatic! Made a great chocolate malt and also made a great suggestion to get the Fats Domino Burger. Burger was juicy and full of flavor. Fries came out hot and fresh and you could taste the difference from your everyday fry. 100% suggest a stop here if your looking for a place to have a good bite to eat!

Lisa Smith

YUM!!!! You can understand why this place is so crowded.

Noah Horner

Onion rings had no flavor? Also the burger was so-so. Worth a visit before they close, but go to some place like Jack Allen’s for a burger

Jill Shanmugasundaram

This neighborhood legend is closing October 2019 so glad we were able to visit.

Sean Casey

Great Place! I had the no. 2 with a buffalo Pattie and fries. It was excellent!! Small and loud and stuffed to the gills with people, a classic social experiment and an Austin landmark. So sad to see it close in October '19 after all these years!! If you haven't been, then go and enjoy this little cultural slice of Austin before its gone for good! Doors close in October.

Sylvia Conley

Fine scene for tasty american food. This place is absolutely outstanding. The service was very sociable and kind. It has an awesome feel to it.

Kate Bell

So sad this place is closing. Best burgers around.

Jill Seime

I've been coming to Hut's for 25 years and have never been disappointed! The burgers are grilled to my specifications - well done but always juicy! No one makes a better milkshake! And prices are perfect for a modest budget. Service is laid back, but attentive and friendly. My teenage nephew loved it!

Gary McNabb

My favorite place for burgers, not just in Austin but anywhere. Friendly service, great menu, high quality meat.

Edward Crowder

I had to come here to try out their burgers before they leave for good. The Fats Domino Burger was amazing and their fries too. One reason why Hut's Hamburgers are definitely a Austin institution!

Kevin Dunn

Fantastic burgers. So sad they are closing.

Joey Mendoza

I love Huts and hurt by the news that they are closing down. During my time at UT we enjoyed many weekends and weekdays here. Especially their Wednesday special the two for one. I'm going to miss her dag burger...I'll be making a couple of stops here before it closes down -thank you Hut's for all the memories...

Scott Lloyd

Best burger in Austin! By far! Get the burger "wolfman jack". The onion rings with the hot sauce on the table are the best combo! Love Huts

Valerie Lopez

We will miss this place! The menu selection for burgers is one of the best I've ever seen and no one has better onion rings!
