I visit Knoxville a couple times a year and time permitting I always visit El Sazon Mexicano. Authentic would be an insult - outstanding far better describes the restaurant! Super tasty fare, great staff and great prices - all great reasons to visit So Sazon!

I used to only eat at el sazon but the service in the past several years has just went downhill. Our table rocked, I got charged extra for a 5 year old getting a togo drink that was different than her drink at the table. I asked for extra napkins and got 2! There were 6 of us.

I was very unhappy with our experience at this establishment. The service was very poor, the food was very bland and Greasy, I had to ask 3 separate times just for them to bring the tortillas that went with my meal. After a poor dining experience I went to the restroom upon leaving. It was very dirty and it was obvious that the bathrooms are not cleaned thoroughly and haven't been for a while. One thing I can assure you is that we will not be eating here again.

THE WORST Restaurant you could ever go to. Food was so mediocre, no flavor whatsoever. You can pretty much make a minute rice and open a can a beans and you will have what this place serves. Let me not forget to mention that we waited 40min for our food to be served and that the waiter never came around till I got up and grabbed some napkins myself.

Come for the $2.99 happy hour margarita specials, not the food. As other recent reviewers have posted, the service is fast but you won't want the food to arrive at quick, or at all. Food arrives not-quite-hot. The chicken wings are bland and, the one I tried to eat was fatty and at best lukewarm. Same for the shredded chicken flautas which managed to be bland, dry, and, like all the food we ordered (all four of us) lukewarm.

This restaurant is located across Alcoa Highway from McGhee Tyson Airport. That is important because my wife and I have suffered through Mexican food in Colorado for about six months. Upon arriving at McGhee Tyson, we stopped at El Sazon. It was amazing!

The warm chips and salsa is always nice to much on. The guacamole was very bland with too many onions. Wouldn't recommend the guac. I ordered the fajitas which was very tasty with enough leftovers to bring home for lunch tomorrow. Service was great! They have really good cheese sauce too. The decor is fun, bright and colorful. It's good for Knoxville, but not the best I've ever had.

El Sazon is an amazing Mexican restaurant. The prices are cheap and you can’t beat happy hour with 1/2 price margaritas. There are tons of vegetarian options as well- and not your typical veggie fajitas- actual good choices. The decor is colorful and there’s plenty of parking available. There is also outdoor seating for those warmer Tennessee days.

This is by far some of the most bland Mexican food i have ever ate. My burrito and enchilada had the same bland hamburger in them and what taste like plain tomato paste on top of them. The only difference was one was in a smaller tortilla. The beans tasted like canned store brand beans that were old. I will not be back

We ate here as a large group for lunch. They handled the group very well. The staff was very nice and attentive. The reason for the 3 stars is for the lack of flavor in the food. The food was very plain and blan. It was hot and looked great, but the flavor was lacking.

The only reason I am giving 2 stars is they had some amazing salsa. The meal I ordered was lacking in every way. It was lukewarm at best. Small portions for the price. The beans looked and tasted like they came out of a can and has been opened 2 or 3 days. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was decorated nice but unfortunately I will not be back.

What a shame, service terrible, food bland. I used to love this place not sure what happened but the service is absolutely awful. You will wait forever and have to constantly remind the wait staff for things promised 10 minutes ago. Need to find a new restaurant for my airport hotel overnights....

Not terrible but definitely not great. Food was lacking a bit of flavor as they just threw some rice and beans over whatever I ordered. The queso or 'cheese' dip as they call it was good. Only non-chain restaurant on the strip other than the Chinese nearby.

This is the third time I brought Steak and Shrimp from this restaurant and the shrimp smelled really bad of course I didn't eat it the service was terrible I sat at the bar waiting for my to go order I had to flag one of the waiters to get me a drink They never came back until my order was ready. Please wait to be seated......but for how long?? Finally seated and ten minutes later the guy from the kitchen that seated me took my order. Finally meet the waitress, she is short with me and walks off while asking her a question. And last but not least..my change was to be $3.02, she brings the receipt and three dollars. I know its only two pennies. And 100% of the time they would remain with the 3 dollar tip! But still should be my decision to make. Thanks for sazon for letting me check this one off my list!

Horrible, we had an party of 15 and was told not having to worry bout making an arrangement of time?! Showed up and made to wait for an 1 1/2 to be seated while aleast 30 people were sat and ordered because said they were on short kitchen staff?! But then got sat and still waiting another 30 mins before even came to table to order drinks, and we ordered at same time of drinks because we had already been there 2 hrs, then was told that an bill wasn't paid even thou money was left with tip and bill on table and had to pay twice on it because saying it wasn't found or supposedly camera didn't show it being put on table. Nevertheless will not return again with them saying they tired yo give us best customer service

Strawberry margaritas are amazing, but the food could be better. The salsa tasted like tomatoes instead of salsa. The nachos had so much lettuce on them that by the time you cleaned it off there wasn't a whole lot left on the plate. Whatever you do don't order a glass of water. It tasted like swamp water. I even added 6 lemon slices to it and still couldn't get it to taste drinkable. I think I'll stick to going Pancho's on Hwy 411

Server was not very fast or friendly this time. He walked away while you were still talking to him asking for something. The steak I got was thin as it was supposed to be but over cooked (as the server asked how i wanted it cooked, medium) and burnt around the edges. Otherwise tasted ok except burnt parts. Onions that came with the meal were raw and would really rather have had sauteed. An extra side of beans and rice I asked for were huge and expensive for only getting them to feed my youngest. Server disappeared near end of meal and finally we walked up to the register to pay without it.

I go here at least once a week. The food is usually very good and it's quick to get in and out. The staff is a toss up - sometimes they're excellent and sometimes you have to chase them down to get them to acknowledge you - even then you feel like you're inconveniencing them. More often than not they're friendly enough so that's why I gave them 4 stars.

I got the ground beef nachos... Imagine a plate of just ground beef over chips with maybe a little bit cheese. I would be embarrassed to serve that to anyone. My buddies tallapia was basically all breading with hardly any meat. The best thing they had going for them was their salsa... and the Coke. The service was ok.

The service here is always quick and the food is consistently delicious, regardless of what we order. The patio area is covered and enjoyable for most of the year, especially when paired with one of their tasty margaritas that are usually on special. Never too crowded and conveniently located near the airport, it's definitely a great place if you get a craving for some great Mexican food.

Disappointed with our visit yesterday (Sunday). Menu has changed so that the lunch menu is no longer available on Sunday's. My meal for 4 people was over $50 before tip and the service was not the typical service I've become use to at this location. For this kind of money, I'm looking for more attentive service. Once we were seated it was almost 10 minutes before we ever saw the server. The total group size was 11 people. We were able to put down all the chips/salsa before server arrived to take drink/food order. After he finally arrived, it took 11 minutes before the drinks finally arrived. My parents purchased 2 large bowls of cheese sauce to have with the chips. Those bowls didn't arrive until the food came out. Didn't appear to be short staffed or overwhelmingly busy. Another nearby table seemed to be having the same issue with the same server. Will avoid visiting on Sunday's, especially when we have other locations that will offer a lunch menu. Will try again during a work week to gauge experience.

We went during happy hour where they had $2.99 margaritas, big in size and strong in tequila! The Margaritas were perfect! The service was not the best. Our waitress was not patient and not kind with us and we were originally seated in a booth with seat on both sides ripped with cushions spilling out. We change seats. The speed of food arrival was average was very good on at a low price, 3 of us ate and drank margaritas for $40.00, not including tip. I would definitely go back if needing good Mexican food.

Took literally FOREVER to get our food. They got our order wrong TWICE. Saw my waitress in the bathroom talking on her phone, which wouldn't have been a problem under normal circumstances, but we had to specifically ask for refills and we asked 3 times for the rest of our food. Instead of getting our food, we got charged $5 for one of us NOT eating. The only reason this isn't a 1 star is because the manager was super nice and made the rest of our food after the fact and gave it to us for free as we were leaving.
