Lived in Japan and this place delivered. Very nice, relaxing atmosphere with prompt, pleasant service and the sushi was excellent. Highly recommend for novice and veteran sushi fans alike.

For little ole' Brookings, South Dakota, it's a great sushi place! Can't go wrong with their sashimi dinners, Godzilla role or anything from the sushi bar. Appetizers are also super delicious!

We love this place! The kids can't get enough of the sushi and the hibachi. There favorites include the Surf's Dream and the Lover's rolls. My favorite is the chicken and udon noodles. We always get the gyoza appetizer. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu.

Good sushi and steak hibachi! Seems like prices went up and portion size down recently though. Still an awesome place... So much so that I actually miss it when I'm at sushi places in big cities when I'm traveling.

Really good. I was there on a Sunday and found out that they have half price on Monday. But food was so good I didn't mind. In my group of 8 I was the only non sushi eater but they had delish hibachi options and I had filet and chicken for about $20

When we first moved here, it was such a surprise to find an excellent sushi restaurant in a small town in South Dakota. The service is always friendly and accommodating. The food, no matter what you order, is always delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant!

For context: I've had world class sushi and sushi that could double as bait. This place has very good sushi, which would already get 4 stars. The fifth star is added because in addition to the setting in a small town making it an unexpected treat, the service is very personal. They are very accommodating to any requests. My experiences here remind me that restaurants really do belong in the hospitality industry and not food services.

Been here many time and the service is always bad. Either they take too long for everything or you feel rushed so they can seat the next people. They also sat 6 people in a booth meant for 4. Overall awful service. 10/10 would NOT recommend... The food is good though.

Wonderful sushi, great service, excellent value, much better than I anticipated. Went there with some trepidation since Brookings is something around 1500 to 1600 miles (depending on direction) from the nearest ocean...... I was expecting smaller rolls and they were HUGE!!!! Probably over ordered due to same. Would go back and would heartily recommend to others casting about for a good sushi place in this part of SD.

Garbage sushi, don't try it. It was like the sushi was cut with a dull knife. Tried it three times, completely disappointed every time. Their selection is small but I would be alright with that if their sushi was good but it isn't. Honestly worse than Hy-Vee sushi. Also the sushi at the food court in the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls is alot better. They have a proper selection and good sushi. Go to the sushi place in the food court in Sioux.

This is the only place where my wife can get the fish she likes. The place however is really dark. Very low lighting. The presentation of the food is the best in the area for miles around. It is very good food. The taste is spot on. It is a little on the high side but a good place for a romantic meal.

Food was good but service was not. Not only did my appetizer come after my food but not once did they come and see if I needed a refill or if the food was good. They were very quick to bring the bill and run the card though. Overall good food but not good customer service.

Came in on a Monday at 3 pm. The place was maybe a quarter full. We ordered 3 rolls of sushi. It took over a hour to get the food. The food was mediocre at best. The table was not clean nor were the soy sauce dishes. They took our bill and proceeded to lay it down and left it at the register. It sat there for almost 10 minutes. Instead of helping customers, the waitress was on her cell phone.

The food rocks, the staff is great, and the environment is cool and different than anything else in Bookings. I have been multiple times, and I normally go over lunch for work from 12-1. It is very hard to get done at a sit down restaurant in less than an hour and they can do it every time!

This place is weird. They are tryna have a low-lighting restaurant but then they have a huge glass door letting all the outside light flood in. And then their bento-box can only be purchased between 11am-3pm which is dumb. I know bento box is "lunch box" but bento boxes are my favorite meal at Japanese restaurants and I've never been to a Japanese restaurant that didn't let me buy one past a certain time. 3 stars cuz the fried rice was good.

My wife and I dropped our daughter off at SDSU and then went to this restaurant to eat, great atmosphere, decent service, and the sushi tasted great. However my wife and I woke up sick the next day. I spent the entire day puking, sweating, and running to the restroom. We ate there on Sunday June 23rd around 7pm. I think it was the Brookings role that got us so sick, we took my daughter a different role and she did not get sick. So, we will not be going back.

Horrible service!!!!!! Came in for a nice meal with a couple friends. Server ignored us for ever. After getting our drinks we ordered soup was very good. But took a while to get our sushi. My order came out wrong. Not what I asked for. After me telling the server she hounded me saying that is what I said. And I for sure didn’t. After eating some of it I couldn’t eat it anymore. Was disgusting a rubbery. I did not tip because of how she told me it was my fault it came out like that. (Witch it was not). The other server came over with the books and try’s to force me to leave a tip. And I respectfully told her no I have no reason to tip today. And just keeps asking us to leave a tip. I will not be back. That was the most disrespectful thing I have seen in a restaurant. If you go be ready to be hounded for a tip. Or be told your wrong!

I've lived a lot of places, including the Pacific Northwest and I've been to Japan. And despite these experiences I believe Sake in Brookings is quite a gem. The food, scaled for the fact we are in the center of the country and the meat-and-potatoes Midwest, is outstanding. Have I had better Sushi? Of course. Is it excellent given the many constraints it faces (e.g., clientele who might consider sashimi as "bait" and Wasabi as "far too spicy"), no question. The best deal, far and away, is the lunch Bento Box special. I'd eat it every day if I could. They are a bit picky about use of credit and debit cards for smaller orders, but that is the only issue I've ever faced there, and it is easily overcome.

The sushi quality here is alright. Raw sushi fish isn't the freshest, most of their rolls are fully cooked and deep fried. Likely catering to the local pallet. Filet mignon hibachi is fantastic however. Service itself seems a bit disorganized, food for the table usually comes out at different times, especially when busy.

Hibachi with no grill or show... where is my onion volcano? Decent food, the same experience of Hibachi without the show and pony. One star less for that, but the Buddha beer was great!
