I have to say the staff went out of their way to see that we had food we liked. I ordered the steak stir fry and it was delicious! The steak was crispy on the edges and the whole dish was very tasty. I was most impressed with how accommodating they where for my vegetarian friend. The manager pointed out the main vegetarian options & offered to create a special tofu entree just for her. She opted to try one of their burgers with the veggie patty option. She took one bit and she did not like the PB & JJ option she chose. Talking to the server the took the burger back no charge and made a tofu stir fry! It was delicious! They really went out of their way to make sure we were happy 1st time customers and WE ARE! :) I can't wait to go back and try some of their pastas!

Been going to the Pheasant for a couple years now. By far the best option in Brookings, hands down! The food is excellent, the staff is always a delight as is their service, and the atmosphere is perfect. Also if you are a vegetarian they have options for you that my vegetarian friend, I always go with, absolutely loves. Every time I visit the Pheasant there is always something new and wonderful on the menu, at the bar, or in the building. Be sure to visit on jazz nights for dinner and great music or anytime during the winter and participate in their tradition of cutting snowflakes. One last thing. If you are looking for REAL olive oils or balsamic vinegar you must visit the Pheasant's new addition which has imported high quality oils and vinegar for sale for any recipe.

Went out with the family and had the worst food every. Food was under cooked on my steak I asked for well done. Familes pattie melt was very rare and unions on it where not done at all and gross... I will never be coming back to this restaurant. Went around 1pm and was dead so I was surprised on the food..

Quite possibly the worst bison ribeye I have ever tasted. Flat and full of grizzle. Do yourself a favor and choose the sirloin or the hamburger. Best part is the waiter comes back and sees it's all fat and says they will remove some of the bill. They took $3.00 off of the bill.

Great food as always!!! You can find the classic hot beef, stay safe with the french dip, or delight your tastebuds with the sirloin salad, lamb burger or herb-crusted salmon. Those are few of my favorites. Their menu is very diverse, you are sure to find your own favorites. If you have never been to the Pheasant please give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Starting with the good. Service: 5ish (skip to the end for the “ish” part), polite, prompt and attentive. Atmosphere-ambience: 5, live music (though elevator jazz), very clean, well-appointed tables, flatware, glasses, dishes and linens. Class rating for Brookings upper class dining. The fries my wife had were great. Now to the bad. For appetizers I initially ordered the chislic, as in the menu it was stated as being very authentic however they were out of lamb early in the night (7:30ish) so I ordered the cheese balls instead. The cheese balls were over-cooked, as the outer breading was a few shades too dark and half of them had most of the cheese either completely or half of the cheese boiled out of the cheese ball. I would not dock it really as I know that sometimes the oil is a hair too hot and contributed I believe to another issue. That issue my wife ordered the duck wing platter. It was overcooked, as well with the breading obviously darker than it should have been and was somewhat on the dry side. Again not by itself worth docking a point as it was still "OK". Now to my part of the order. The chili I ordered was bland as in no spice at all and a slight off flavor I can’t place that didn't contribute well to the bland flavor. By itself not worth docking a point as given the majority of clientele being older, I can understand the lack of spice. I also had the garlic, mashed potatoes. There was simply too much garlic. I like garlic but not that much however, that is to taste and again by itself not worth docking a point. BUT all together definitely warrants docking a point. Now we get to my main dish. I ordered the walleye. It was prepared very well damn near to perfection. I was enjoying it. Until the halfway point where I encountered two bones. Then the next bite I encountered another and another, it seems that half of the fillet had a row of bones that were left behind after preparing the fillet for freezing by the processor. Very sharp fine ones. Thus, I did not finish it. Now this is definitely not the fault of the staff. I understand that they come from Canada and perhaps this is a one off. Though when I brought it to the server’s attention she did acknowledged that yes they were bones however did not offer any solutions to the situation. It would have been acceptable to either offer some discount or free drink or well about anything other than nothing. I know that the owners take pride in the quality of their product and establishment at a whole. My recommendations are as follows. Check the temperatures of your fryers to validate that the temperatures are accurate the same for the overs as well. Verify cooking durations are followed and adjusted if needed. Maybe back off on the garlic a bit. In addition, have some kind of policy when customers encounter things like fish bones. One or two I understand is a given but I hit six or seven and just stopped after that. I might try it again after a few months and if improved I will adjust my review to reflect the changes.

I went here with a disappointed bison ribeye, I was expecting a leaner steak, it does not live up to my standard. The steak was cooked as an expected medium-rare, but the meat is not tender some part of it was really hard to cut or eat. The steak get cold really quick, may be due to the cold metal plate? A USDA ribeye may be better than it, I should have order a Angus ribeye instead. The waitress was friend and offer to exchange, but I was too hungry to wait for another steak.

I had no preconceptions of what to expect when I got there and I found myself delighted by the food, staff, ambiance, and everything else they had to offer. Their house roasted organic coffee was fantastic and pounds are available for purchase. Beautiful local art is displayed around the restaurant, they even have a room of wines and gourmet infused Olive oils and balsamic vinegars with suggested pairings and sample bottles on display. (The pomegranate and spiced pear were fantastic). They even had a jazz trio playing for dinner service. Definitely going back and very excited to try their Sunday Nordic Waffle brunch. Do not pass on an opportunity to visit this place!

The coffee here is to die for, and the wine selection may be the best in town (besides the liquor store) but there food is underwhelming for the price, the burger I ordered while the paddy was cooked to perfection there was little else on the burger. No lettuce, tomato, onion and I had to specifically request cheese. I won't say they have bad food but definitely not my style. Come for the coffee, but get your meal elsewhere.

Ordered walleye w/ green beans and a bleu cheese burger. Flavors were pretty good (fries not that interesting); portion sizes not huge, but hefty; a bit on the pricier side, though more reasonable with consideration that they use ingredients as local as possible; main complaint is that noises carry easily from one dining area to the other (one area is a bar/lounge w/ stage for music on Monday nights, the other is more traditional dining environment with only a few booth tables)

This was our 2nd day in Brookings (just moved from Upstate NY). The waitress was amazing. Very kind, and pleasant. Hubby had the Walleye dinner, and I had the Hummus/Salsa platter. The food was excellent. Hubby had the Wheat Ale, and I the House Red Wine. Very impressed by their food, drink, and service. So far, our favorite place.

I know the locals love it as the premier dining option. It's the best place that isn't a franchise. I went to 11 different places. The jazz music was nice. The bar has an odd ledge on it, so it's better to drink rather than eat at the bar.
