When you look at the place from the outside and walk in, you know exactly what it is. If this is the kind of place you like (which we do), it is a five star version of it. Betsy was very nice to us, and offered to open up when no one else was there, when she saw us walk by. We chatted with her and other patrons, and were made to feel at home. There were two dogs running around inside, which thoroughly entertained our kids.

Do you like dive bars? True dives? This is the diviest dive you have ever been to, guaranteed. If you want something else, keep pushing to Deadwood or Hill City. The ownership has been at it for almost 40 years and helped me in a time of need. I hear Black Hills musicians jam out here on Sundays

Has been called the Moonshine since 1910 ask the old gal how old the building was she said I don't know with a smirk very cool people just going through beautiful roads and this appears out of nowhere looks like a place from the old cowboy days very cool would go back just to see this place called beer hospitable people like going back into the past the inside has more character then any bar I've seen recently places out of sight

We went on a holiday weekend and they were out of a bunch of food at 1:30. The lady said they were all out of cheeseburgers. I was with a group of 4 people and 3 of them ordered and sat down and right before I was going to order a bunch of "local friends" of the lady came in and she went over and hugged them and talked to them for 15 minutes while looking at me and then continued to ignore me waiting to order. She took there order before mine which was 6 cheeseburgers that they were supposedly out of. After finally getting to order, my food came out way after the group I was with.

We have been to the Moonshine Gulch Saloon a few times now. We are living in Spearfish Canyon for the winter and we found the Gulch on an outing to walk part of the Mickelson Trail. We enjoyed a burger and chat with the lady who helps run the place on that day. She told us of a weekly jam session with local musicians, and since my husband plays and sings and I love music we made the trip for the jam session. We were made to feel toally welcome by the locals and truly enjoyed our visit. We have gone back several times and enjoy it tremendously. The food is good and the building is rustic and homey, if you like that rustic hole in the wall sort of place and we do! We will definitely go back often.
