Big boy man the super hero

I attended a father/ daughter dance tonight hosted at Kol. I had never been in there before. I thought they were just a night club for partiers, but it's very nice in there and they serve food too! I heard the Sunday buffet is good.

Looked like a cool place. Nice interior, hip looking crowd. Very long bar with a drinken menu that looked good. That being said, I sat at the bar for 10 minutes before a bar tender came up and said someone else would be with me in a minute. After 5 more minutes of nothing, I just walked out. Only two other people drinking at the bar that evening. Had I been served in a reasonably timely manner, it looked like the type of place I would've enjoyed.

Promptly moved when we asked to move tables. Server Jorge very caring with time and attention. Excellent coffee. House music beats at a good volume. Roasted veggies medley side was amazing with squash, tomato, onion, mushroom and a rosemary butter sauce. Was left in search for the truffle oil in the fries which was disappointing. Doughy bottom pizza didn't match up and had too much cheese likely causing the soggy thin crust.

We visited the restaurant on a whim on a Friday night at around 8 pm. We were sat right next to the entrance which was ok because there weren't a lot of people coming and going so it was pretty quiet. However, the area we were in seemed to feel almost like an overflow area, and not really a part of the main restaurant. Compounding this feeling, was that there were a couple tables that hasn't been bussed yet when we arrived, and when we left over an hour later, they still hadn't been touched. It didn't really bother us, honestly, but just felt a bit unprofessional. All the food sounded really good, and the food we got was quite delicious. The prices are a bit on the higher end, but the restaurant is a bit more upscale feeling, so it fits. The only complaints I might have, is that our waiter, though friendly, seemed a bit harried. We didn't see him too much, and at the end of the meal, we had a bit of a wait to get our check. He apologized when he arrived, and explained that he had been called on a number of times to go down to the lower level ("Press Start", a retro game bar), to bartend, and that's why he hadn't been around as much as he should have been. If that's the truth, I feel management may need to rethink their scheduling. Overall though, we'd go back and give them a second chance. The atmosphere is nice, the food was very good, prices were as expected, we just felt a bit forgotten.

Karen and I went there to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary as we wanted to something special. Wow were we blown away with the service and the food! Owner Daniel came over and congratulated us and made us feel like family. Emily our service staff was excellent and attended to all of our needs. And the food - amazing!! Will be going back there very soon!!

Food is good, service is horrible. We ate at 12:30 for lunch, and we're sat immediately. There were 3 other tables at the time, 1 eating, and 2 that had ordered but not received food. We were brought water right away, but our server did not return for 10 minutes. Once he returned we finally were able to order our drinks and food. The food arrived in a timely manner, but our drinks were never refilled for the entire hour and 15 minutes we sat there. Once he took our plates and asked if we like dessert, we declined, it was another 10 minutes before he returned to see if we were ready for our check. When we replied an exam stove yes, it was yet another 10 minutes before receiving it. The server never had more than 4 tables, and none of the other staff (I'm assuming managers, since they sat in the corner table conversing in work uniforms) ever lent a hand. It was poor service, and poorer management to allow customers to suffer such poor service. The server stated he had been working there for 7 months, so obviously management is not the observant type, or they would have worked with him on techniques and multi tasking to help him be a better server or let him go. Either way, find somewhere else to eat.

I visited Kol when it first opened and have been going back ever since. The decor is very trendy and the use of wood and glass is stunning. I cannot comment on the nightclub aspect but my husband and I love going there for lunch. Their specialty soup is awesome and we always have to add it to our meal. Everything is cooked and prepared to perfection. I am obsessed with their street tacos, shrimp being my favorite! The dining area offers a choice of booths and tables and the servers are very attentive and friendly. It's always a pleasure to dine at Kol.

We got wings, pizza, street tacos, beer and cocktails, and all were tremendous. I have never seen my young kids eat so much food. It is incredibly rare for a restaurant to get 5 stars from every member of our family. Could not believe we found such a good place in Rapid City. If (kol) existed in my hometown, I'd need to visit my doctor and financial advisor more...

If you are downtown in Rapid City, Kol's is the place to eat! We shared a hand tossed, stone fired pizza, and l had an awesome salad with arrugula, goat cheese, fig and pear. The service was good, and the waiter was helpful.

If you’re looking for a great cocktail to complement the smoke of your dish, try the Spicy 50, but substitute mezcal for vodka. The scallops are nearly perfect, but could use a dash of color and crunch. Maybe a few slices of radish would kick this app into the stratosphere. The steak is hearty and cooked to the perfect temp. I’d be willing to put the greens up against any other establishment outside the Deep South. If the potatoes were a little more fingerling and a little less hotel-breakfast-bar, then the whole plate would be the best but of beef in Rapid City. Overall, I was impressed. Kol is an object lesson in what a small city can offer to a gourmand.

A friend and myself got bottle service at this place on Feb 23, 18 and lets start with you DON'T GET ANY SERVICE JUST THE BOTTLE! Bottles started at $185, the bottle and mixers were delivered to our table and NO ONE EVER CHECKED ON US AGAIN THAT NIGHT! So they offer bottles, not SERVICE. Secondly, we were the ONLY people in VIP from 1030 pm to close and were treated horrible. Around 1 am, our designated driver (DD) arrived and to get her into the VIP I had to talk to two different people cause she didn't have a wrist band. I bring this up cause it took about 5-10 minutes to get my DD into the VIP area, I had to explain that two people from our party who left over an hour ago, who had wrist bands weren't coming back and my DD was there to drive us home and not drink. Some random girl on the dance floor, neither my friend or I knew decided to come into the VIP area and attack my friend. The bouncers had no problem at all letting the attacker into the VIP area WITHOUT a wrist band and then continued to let my friend get attacked by this girl. I'm not going to lie, I had been drinking so I have no idea where this attacker came from. At the time of the attack I was talking with my DD who said "I think some girl is trying to fight your friend!" I didn't believe her cause it wasn't like my friend at all to be involved in something like that, 8 years of hanging out together without a single issue! My DD repeated it again and sure enough there was some chick in the VIP area that had my friend on the ground with 3 bouncers just STANDING around WATCHING!!! I managed to get over there and break up the fight while the bouncers continued to just stand there and watch. They finally removed the attacker from the bar and when I asked to speak to a manager I was told they were busy. So I waited until all the lights came on and the staff were ushering people out and the bar was closed and found the manager on my own. I wanted to know how it took me talking to two different people to get my DD into VIP without a wrist band but some random chick can just walk right on up past the bouncer and start attacking my friend without one. The manager's response was "I should be more careful who I give wrist bands out too!" At that point I was furious and responded that "I didn't give the chick a wristband and she was never with us! So how did she get into VIP???" (<- minus curse words) and because I cussed at him, he had me removed from the "club," immediately 3 bouncers want to be there to escort me out but they just stood around while some girl wailed on my friend in VIP!? This is the worse bottle service I have ever had and it's not worth it. You get no service, the VIP area is apparently accessible to any random drunk girl but not a responsible designated driver. The manager didn't want to take the time to listen to my concern and then blamed me for the unwanted girl entering VIP. When I asked for the name and number of the owner/general manager they gave me a fake name and a phone number to a 12 year old child, who I called. THIS PLACE IS UNPROFESSIONAL ON ALL LEVELS!!!

I want to like this place, I really do. My girlfriend and I went for NYE and had an amazing meal. The food was great. The atmosphere is amazing (aside from the tomato cans they serve the pizza on, totally out of place). The service, as is the case most times I've been, is slow and nonchalant. The people are nice. The food is great. I just wish the service was better.

If you’re thinking about stopping here to eat I’d encourage you to just keep walking and check out the myriad other institutions right down the road. I gave it two stars because 1) the interior was nice and well decorated and 2) service was so comically bad that it provided a certain level of comedic value—it was like being in the middle of some bizarre performance art piece. (In all my reviews on here this is the first time I’ve given a place only 2 stars!) My friend and I, after a long day driving, basically stopped here for a cocktail and a pizza. Without going too into details—from the time we sat down until the time we got our drinks was 30+ minutes (probably should’ve just left at this point). The cocktails were so sweet it was as if they were designed for teenagers—I was going to request just a glass of wine instead but our server never came back to visit us, for 45 minutes! When he did it was to tell us that they had made our pizza wrong BUT they were working on a new one. We requested it in a to-go box so we could just take it and eat it we were so fed up. To their credit they did comp the pizza but I’d rather just have a good experience. I’d chalk this up to just an off night but to be honest the food was really bad and the way the staff was operating (half nonchalant, half running around) I’d say this establishment has a serious management issue. I thought maybe this is just the small town culinary scene, but the more time we spent in Rapid City we had some exceptional restaurant experiences which just made this seem worse in hindsight.

Not bad little Bistro style restaurant. Chic upscale environment. Food was good not great. Had the taco appraiser and think it was the best it out meals. Dog in a pear tree salad was ok, could have used more dressing. Cesar salad was good, but the artichoke salad was the most interesting. Would recommend the place, service was great.

What a great find in Rapid City! It is listed as a "pizza restaurant" and sure, it has great pizza, but it is SO MUCH MORE. Wonderful, flavorful food selections, very fresh and innovative. Range free chicken from local Hutterite farms. Great decor. Reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

Too much class for a night club in rapid city. Don't plan on going here if you are not dressed too notch. Horrible concept of a dress code. Bouncers are trashy and rude. Too much of a try hard club. Don't see this place lasting another 5 years. Save yourself the time an DO NOT waste your time here. Go to Murphy's (down the street) you will feel much more welcome and the food is ALWAYS great.

We found this gem in downtown Rapid City. It was recommended by some locals so we tried it for lunch. Everything was great. I had the pear and fig salad with a beef and blue sandwich. Delicious. My wife had the street tacos and some bruschetta. Both were so good. Hats off to the crew there, they knew what they were doing, the server knew the menu without having to go check with the kitchen. The decor inside was impressive as well. We'll be telling everyone we know about KoL.

Terrible establishment. If you are a man and trying to follow your girlfriend into the club you will be stopped for any reason they can find. I was stopped for having a hoodie and for having a hat without a collared shirt. On two separate occasions. Instead of posting the dress code for outside the club, they tell you once your girl friend has already gone in that it will cost money to check your infringing items at the door. It's nothing but a money grabbing scam. On the first occaison, I was not allowed in wearing my hoodie, while my friend in a cookie monster oneise was allowed in right in front of me. Second time, the same friend, who is a pretty girl, was allowed in wearing a hoodie and I was asked to pay 2 dollars cash to check my hat. Because I wasn't carrying cash I was directed to an ATM to buy my own money at a $3 charge. I will never support KOL as a business. Nothing but bad experiences. Avoid if you want to have a good time.

While in town for a short vacation to visit Mount Rushmore we stayed at the Rushmore Hotel across the street for a few days. A goal of mine was to ONLY visit local eateries/shops (no national chains). This city has a great selection so make sure to visit Main St to check them all out! Since it was snowing the second night we decided to stay in and order pizza. Kol was right across the street with a coal fired oven so we ordered take out. I must say the smell of the chicken pizza was pretty horrible and I can't figure out why since it was just chicken, mushroom, cheese, and alfredo sauce. The pepperoni we ordered smelled just fine though. The price for the two was about $35 which isn't bad because it's a bit more upscale than a chain pizza shop. The taste of the pizza was actually pretty boring, both of them. I greatly appreciate the fresh ingredients they use but they need to punch up the spices/flavor a bit. I wish the crust was a bit crispier because the coal fired oven was a main reason we selected them. While the food was EXTREMELY boring it was edible and the customer service was incredible! I really enjoyed the customer service. Emily was both wonderful at taking my order by phone and fulfilling it when I arrived so I added an extra star just because of her. This place has much more to offer than take out pizza so I will definitely try it if we visit town again and I recommend you give them a try yourselves to decide for yourselves.

Tried to go in this establishment and they made me take my hat off, which I was okay with, until I walked in and seen another person with a hat on....when I questioned them about it at the door their explanation was that he had a collared shirt on...no excuse to be able to wear a hat or not. My hat wasn't MLB, NFL, or even near gang related...such BS...spending my money elsewhere!

Do not come here after 10 PM. They say they turn into a nightclub after a certain hour, probably 10 PM, possibly as soon as 9 PM. Whichever is the case, do not expect anybody to be here at all, customer-wise, after this time. Their food might be great, which is the reason why came at 10 PM. The reality of the matter is, after this time, the food might be great, which is the reason why came at 10 PM, but the reality of the matter is, after this time, they have absolutely zero going on food or customer-wise. Also, the pretty girls you see dancing by themselves? They are paid to be there. Two have admitted this to me in casual conversation.

So it's a nice bar until they decide they become a club. You can rent out the entire bar, plan your rehearsal dinner there and they will decide that your crowd is to rowdy at 9pm. And decide to throw two of the 55 people out because they are wearing hats. It's mind blowing that you would decide to stop serving the only crowd you're going to have on a Friday night. Not to mention the bartenders were jerks to the bride and groom. I mean they were rude to the bride. Who does that??? That is mind blowing. I get that the bachelor party could be too rowdy but being rude to the bride??? No. Not a reason, she's the sweetest girl in the world. This is a bar you should not waste your time at. Go to the brewery down the street or the bar at the Rushmore. Attached is two pictures of the bouncers who tried to charge my friend an entrance fee for wearing a hat. When he said that he wouldn't pay to check his hat in, they tried to fight him. Good on him for just saying that he would leave rather than cause an issue.

The restaurant is an icebox! Went with group of 14. I was last to receive my dinner almost 10 minutes after rest of party. My pasta you could tell was sitting under the lamp for awhile my pasta was dry. The sauce soaked in the pasta and was actually becoming crusty. I asked for more sauce after our server returned 10 minutes later to only have to wait 20 minutes for sauce!! I was distgusted! Done!

Just dined there for the first time for Ralid City's Restaurant Week. The food was delicious - had the Creole Gumbo which was as good (if not better) than the gumbo I had last time in New Orleans. Atmosphere was amazing, with the kind of vibe you'd find in upscale restaurants in the bigger metropolitan cities. Finally, the staff were top notch, from the hostesses to the wait staff I felt welcomed and treated. We will be back!

The food was pretty good (I got the Farmer Joe pizza). I'm a New Yorker, and SD pizza generally hasn't lived up to snuff, but this was solid. They lost our order, but the waitress admitted this and apologized after half an hour. The wait ended up being a bit long, but they comped up 30%, which was kind.

Great service, mediocre food, cafeteria atmosphere. If you are looking for the "feel" of urban restaurant (i.e. - open concept with no privacy), this is the place to go in Rapid City. If you want high great tasting food, look elsewhere. However, I would give them high marks for the quality of service. Our server was very attentive and did a great job. It was worth trying once but it will likely be a long time before I return. There are better options in Rapid City.

My wife and in-laws had an excellent dinner and service was fantastic. The gorgonzola and spinach soup was amazing. The grilled 1/2 chicken was cooked to perfection. Good beers, good wine. If we're ever in rapid city again, we will be back without a doubt.

Nice atmosphere, food nicely prepared, but we must have been on a bad night, service slow, room very cold, my pear salad had four paper thin slices of pear and the added shrimp were only 3 (amazing) peices.

We are from Texas and vacationing in Rapid City and it is our daughter’s birthday today. She found this restaurant online and made reservations to eat brunch here on her special day while also roaming downtown Rapid City. We are very satisfied with our food choices. I had fig in a pear tree salad with gorgonzola and tomato basil soup. They were the perfect pair. My husband had the scallops linguine which was also delicious. The birthday girl had chicken and waffle sliders which were excellent. The little one had cheese pizza which I believe has truffle oil on it and it was exceptional as well. The presentation of the entrees were topnotch. Compliments to the chef. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic birthday dinner! My husband and I enjoyed the shrimp appetizer which was very flavorful and split a pizza which was amazing! All the flavors melted together and would never expect all the ingredients to go together. I also loved the watermelon moscow mule, it was delicious. Service was great, our waitress was very attentive and treated us to a tasty slice of raspberry cheesecake with chocolate drizzle for my birthday. The atmosphere was great too, definitely worth another stop someday!!

Very cool interior and exterior of this reclaimed industrial building however I was a little disappointed with the lack of flavor on one of my pizzas I tried two different ones then 1/10 of eating more than about a third of each one I'll leave you to be the choice of whether you would lights are pizza or not

Nice restaurant in Rapid City. I had the Buffalo meat with the pomegranate reduction and potatoes and onions. The pizza looked good but I didn't get a chance to try any.

Most of food was just ok. I got the burger and it wasn't, it was dry and over cooked, and flavorless and 1/4lb at best . The waiter was terrible. We ran out of water 1/3 of the way through the evening and he never asked if we wanted more. Everyone wanted 2nd drinks as well and he never came back to ask if we wanted a 2nd round. He didn't come back till we were done. And then another 20 min to get the check.

Without a doubt, this restaurant is a wonderful option for dining in downtown Rapid City! The decor is upscale yet casual. Acoustics are obviously well designed, as a person doesn't have to shout to be heard at his/her own table. Our salads and pizza options were all well prepared and artfully presented! Entrees do take a little while after order placement; however, this is not ordinary looking food thrown on a plate! Compliments to the kitchen staff! Wait staff was friendly and attentive without rushing you in and out the door. Since we've moved back to the Black Hills area, we look forward to making Kol' one of our "go to" favorites in Rapid City!

Food tasted good but there were only 2 other tables with people and yet the sandwich and salad I ordered took 40 minutes to be served! Not ideal on your lunch hour!

I tried to order a large lunch for my colleagues and no one answered the phone after I called several times. Their Google listing says they open at 10am yet the hours they have posted on their door say 11am. Their menu also did not download. I ended up going elsewhere. Synchronize please.

This would have been four stars but for a snotty receptionist who showed us to a table with high chairs even though there were other tables free. She refused to move us stating the other tables were reserved but promptly showed other people to them who did not have reservations. The food is excellent along with a good selection of craft beers and the rest of the staff friendly knowledgeable and efficient.

Went here for dinner with my wife, son, and his family. We had high end entrées. The food was good. Maybe could have had more spice but good for the price. Service was really good even though this is a cafeteria style seating. Would definitely come back

Best experience ever! This place rocks! Delicious food thats well priced. My friends and I were greeted by beautiful Joanna friendly as ever. Then Dalton was our server and blew us all away. This guy has skills and is one of the best servers Ive met in a while. All 6 of my friends agreed. Dude even did some magic tricks for us that we couldnt figure out whatsoever. It was awesome! The GM in the grey suit was cool as ever as well. Thank you very much for giving me and my crew the best experience in downtown Rapid City.

I even received another call from them to make sure everything was in order and that it would go smoothly. I highly recommend this establishment.

This is a trendy restaurant in downtown Rapid City. The food was good but I would not order the breakfast pizza again. The eggs on top are over easy and it ruined the taste of the pizza.

Made reservations on Open Table and drove an hour from Custer to get here. When we arrived the restaurant was closed for a private event. Not a good first impression.
