This was a happenstance find for us on vacation but it was quite the treat. The hot dogs are quite unique and they are delicious as well. They are a little off the main path in town but it is well worth the very short detour to get to. I saw a sign on the wall that said they were voted best hot dogs in South Dakota, and I very much believe it.

Great place for lunch or dinner, fun and easy for kids, indoor and outdoor seating. I had the Cubana Dog, delicious dog piled high with Ham Cheese pickles and mustard, and a side of Cheese Balls from a local dairy that are outstanding Very original menu friendly faces I love a great hot dog place, and there is burgers and other food as well

We ordered the hungry dog and a build your own burger... Let's just say. We greatly underestimated the size of the hungry dog. There chilly is great and so aret the chillie fries. Definitely a must try and we will be coming back.

We LOVE hungry dog! Surf n' turf dog is great. Dimock cheese curds are also a favorite! Daily specials never disappoint. Food is always fresh and great menu variety (see attached menu!) Small indoor counter seating area but many tables with umbrellas outside. Locally owned and operated.

Hungry Dog gave us amazing service (even though we strolled in 10 minutes before closing) and had the best hot dogs we have had in the continental U.S. . I would highly recommend making the stop off of I-90. Skip the Corn Palace and go straight to the real gem of Mitchell.

Amazing Dogs! I had the wrangler tangler, which was a footlong hotdog topped with crispy onion straws, bacon bits and a creole remoulade. Navigating through the construction on sanborn is defenitly worth it. Prices are more than fair as I also had a chocolate shake to go with my dog all for around 10 bucks. I will definitely be going back!

EXCELLLENT! Fast and hot and oh so tasty. I Had the mac n cheese dog with fries and it was such a great combo. Beautiful day outside to sit and enjoy my lunch in the outdoor dining area. Thank you Hungry Dog!

Stopped in for first time today because I heard good things, cheeseballs are made from scratch not store bought and amazing, dogs are the best I've ever had, if you're going through Mitchell stop in it is well worth it and you'll regret missing it, and very cheap for amount and quality you get. Will eat there again

My wife and I were driving through back to Ohio and were pleased we stopped in. The food is very fresh and the cheese balls are from a local cheese factory. Some many awesome combinations on the hot dogs it was hard to choose one. The owner was super nice and came out to talk to us. Highly recommend this place and we will stop in again another time passing through.

My wife and I stopped in to try this place,not only is it welcoming with all the work that's been done on the outside of this building but the inside is equally nice,the staff is super friendly and the food is awesome! I had the ranch burger and cheese balls my wife had the wrangler tangler with corn nuggets,the food was amazing,I can not wait to try more.

It's funny how I came from Florida and ate the best hotdog I've ever had in a small town, called Mitchell, South Dakota! Hot dogs are crisp and snap when you bite into it. And the sides are enormous! Amazing. Will be back, worth the trip.

This place sucked. You do not get free water with your meal. Fries don't come with an $8.00 Burger. Food was average tasting and priced like a nice place. Wouldn't recommend it as a place to eat.

Really nice people working there! Ordered a footlong hungry dog and it was the highlight of my week! Forgot to take a picture of it's awesomeness because i just couldn't wait! Saw a guy who came in like 2 mins past their closing time but they still let the guy in. I don't know anywhere else who had awesome service like that!! It's just sad they only open for 3 hours. 11am-2pm

I stopped in The Hungry Dog this afternoon and had a chili cheese dog and a vanilla malt. They were both FANTASTIC!! It is hard to find a good hot dog these days, I would have to say probably one of the best chili cheese dogs I have ever had. Highly recommend!!

We happened to drive by and stopped in on a whim. Had no idea this was the hot dog destination point of South Dakota. They did not disappoint and definitely deserve the recognition they have received. Possibly the most amazing hot dogs we have ever eaten. The menu was clever with a twist on classics, adventurous combinations and prepared with quality ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy and the owners very friendly. We are from Wisconsin so they came out to surprise us with their special cheese balls that were just as amazing. And, they wouldn’t let us leave without a hot dog for our dogs. I’ll make a point of stopping here next time I’m in South Dakota.

Google had the closing time listed incorrectly, so we arrived just after the owner and his family had closed for the night. When he realized that we were from out of town, he insisted that we allow him to reopen and serve us. THIS is how to run a small business!!! He could not have been nicer and took the time to explain how their food was sourced and made. His hospitality was truly appreciated, as we were really looking forward to trying the unique menu offerings. My daughter and I had hot dogs and my son had a burger. All were excellent. We also tried tots, fries, and the cheese balls. The cheese balls had a nice breading and were excellent with ranch. The fries and tots were good as well. To reiterate, the menu items are truly unique with many imaginative combinations. The hot dogs are specially made by a local meat locker and are absolutely delicious. I wish that we lived closer, as I would love to visit on a regular basis.

I have sampled dogs all around the country, in search of the perfect chili dog. Found it. Here. Hands down. By leaps and bounds. Homemade ingredients and the genuinely fun people serving it up made it one better than perfect. Had one in December and drove 737 miles back from Illinois to have one in June. We raved about Hungry Dog off and on for the past several months and put it first on our list for this visit (after Dad's house). My daughter had the Popper which was out of this world. We came back twice in June and are now on a quest to try all the dogs on their menu on subsequent visits. BONUS - they sell Hungry Dog T-shirts now!
