Second time here and was fantastic. They don't ask you how you want your burger cooked because they cook it to pure perfection. Staff is very friendly and courteous, the pickles are amazing, and the atmosphere is great. Pay attention to the hours of service and if you get on the wait list don't leave or you might miss them calling your name.

Our waitress was Kay-Kay. She was delightful. Quick and responsive and even though it was super busy she was on top of the ball. Wife got the hot granny, I got the fat smitty—We also got cheese curds and fried green tomatoes. The environment is tight, but cozy with a lot character! It’s very clean though and not super loud. But be warned, because it is small, there will always be a wait. Ours was about an hour and a half. The cheese curds were crisp, and juicy. They were very well done and came with a lot for the price. (Everything is well priced for the amount of food you get. About 9-11$ for a burger and fries, the appetizers will run you about 8$—but again, very good sized) The fried green tomatoes were excellent. Same as the curds, juicy and extremely flavorful. It also came with a unique sauce, that was delightful. A lot about this place is very unique! Burger was juicy and HUGE. It was truly top 3 burgers of all time. Plus:bathroom was also super clean.

Excellent food and service! The cheese curds were advertised by our waitress as being as good as the Wisconsin variety and she was correct. The fried pickles were great too. Our burgers were excellent. Everything about the hot granny was wonderful. Even the kids chicken tenders were great. So, so good. We'll easily come back next time we're in town.

I could write a novel on this place, but short story: Small restaurant and long wait, get your name in early and, if you are not staying in Custer, find something to do. If you are staying in Custer, get your name in, take a shower, relax, and mind your texts as they are automated. Burgers are beyond good. My family went all-Buffalo first time. Second time, I did beef and was not disappointed. Juicy, tender, great seasoning, and they make their own buns which hold up perfectly. Buffalo and beef were both seasoned to perfection and grilled better than I ever expected in a tourist town. We all like to taste the burger without too many add-ons, so we all did the classic on the first and second visit. After the first visit, we had to go back. There was no way we were going to leave Custer without another taste of these burgers. Very reasonable prices, good beer selection and, if you like BBQ beans, these are some of the best. The fries are excellent as well, but the beans are better than anything I expected. Overall, if you are close by, it's well worth it. Actually, if you are anywhere within the Black Hills area, it's well worth it.

This is the best burger place I have been to anywhere around here, no lie. The burgers are delicious and there are many great options rather than just a plain burger. The fries are also great here, perfect amount of seasoning and crispiness. The only downside is that it can be quite crowded in the summer!

Way overrated. The regular burgers are burgers which is fine but I don't know any self respecting sit down burger joint that doesn't asks the temp let alone assume medium well on what is supposed to be good meat. Having to pay for lettuce, tomato and onion is becoming more common but just rubs me the wrong way. The wait is definitely not worth it combined with slow service. Now the good! Cheese curds were excellent, really good fries, great malts, the black bean and bison burgers were both well executed. I suppose I was mostly disappointed based on the hype surrounding the place, the ridiculous wait and that it was overall mediocre.

We stopped here just on our way through South Dakota. The hostess was very help full and got us a table as soon as she could. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs as a large group. She filled our glasses as soon as they were empty and was super funny and nice. The bottom of my burger, however, was very soggy from the sauce they put on there but, I would definitely stop in again. For the low prices and the good food. You cant compete!!!

Spectacular!!! I had the Texas hamburger. It was out of this world. If you or your family are in Custer SD. Stop and have a meal here. If there's a wait wait it is totally worth it. Okay, I realize that my review is merely an echo of what has been said literally hundreds of times. Nonetheless I feel compelled to add my two cents worth. My wife and I ate at the Burger and Bun during a recent trip to the Black Hills. A friend told us that the place served the best hamburgers "in South Dakota." Hey, that is some pretty lofty praise. Given that, we decided to check it out for ourselves. And you know, while I haven't eaten at every burger joint in South Dakota, it is hard to imagine any place any better. My lady decided to go with the "Fat Smitty" burger. (Cheddar cheese, bacon, fried egg, etc.).The 6 ounces of beef was a little much for her. Nonetheless, she claimed that the burger was the best she had ever tasted. The same was said of the sweet potato fries. I had "The Classic." Excellent! You gotta try it to believe it. While you are at it, try the pickles. After tasting them on the burger, I ordered an additional side of the things as well as bought a jar of the pickles to bring back home with us. Oh, try the beans too. Slightly sweet but outstanding. A warning. The place is small and they are only open from 11:00 am - 2 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm. There will be a line. The wait is worth it. I want to tip my hat to the staff at the restaurant for making our stay in the beautiful Black Hills even the more special. Blessings!

Locals know to get here early! They open at 11am. There is almost always a line by 11:15am and people waiting in line before 11. Unfortunately being a small local restaurant once they run out of menu items they usually close for the day. You will be hard pressed to find a better quality burger place in the Hills. Friendly waitstaff and great food make this stop one you'll definitely want to make time for.

Already coming into the restaurant with fairly high expectations due to the longer wait time, I can confidently say it lived up to its hype. The service was phenomenal, with very kind and courteous staff. The food received near perfect praise from my entire group, with each burger having a unique and satisfying aspect that made it memorable.The literal only thing I can really complain about is that I wish they gave more fries, but that’s really stretching it. Overall, amazing place for tourists to stop by, and definitely worthy of being a local favorite.

They're special that I got was a BLT and the tomatoes were fried Green tomatoes and it had garlic mayonnaise on it. it was excellent and they said so far the feedback is so good they may put it on the menu. My husband got a buffalo burger and that buns are also freshly made there everyday. It was excellent and the french fries were really good and when we asked what the powdery looking thing on them was they said it was just their seasoning. We shared my coleslaw which was excellent. Jamie was an excellent server so feel free to ask for her. we got there when they opened and went right in but when we left close to 11:30 it was already full. apparently the weekends are so full people wait in line for a long time and as long as they get your order by 2 p.m. on Saturday they'll still serve people which can be up to 90 more people wow! We went during off-season and most of the people seem to like locals who knew each other. Definitely recommend this place but go when they open on a non weekend day.

The hot granny is truly one of the best burgers I've ever had! This place does burgers right! They use really high quality ingredients and let the flavors of them shine. A few fancier ingredients here and there on the menu, but nothing pretentious. House made buns are soft, light and delicious. The only negative, that's been mentioned in previous reviews, is that it's so good that it gets pretty crowded at peak times. I went in at noon on a Tuesday and there was a sizeable line out the door. Luckily you can get around this by calling in a take out order which is what I did. Quick and easy with friendly service.

Travel channel/food network worthy. A bun that is almost non existent yet still reminiscent because of how amazing it is. A burger that is cooked to perfection beyond a single tastebuds wildest dreams so don’t beyond alarmed if you panic on your first bite— the body knows not how to deal with such greatness. The cheese: don’t even get me started not ask questions you don’t know the answer to because it could be scary. But beyond everything else this amazing burger had to offer, the pulchritudinous woman behind the scenes at the order taking process was the best part of it. Great stuff and highly recommend.

My Jalepeño Pesto burger was the best burger I had ever had. So much so that I went to this resturant twice in a row and I chose to happily wait in the hour long line. The burger was fresh with the onion and pesto yet it was still a greasy drip down your neck type of burger with the bacon and crispy edges on the beef patty. To top it all off, the bun tasted fresh and the root beer I chose to drink was refreshing after a hot day of touring the area. The strawberry shake was similar to a Dairy Queen shake except with less strawberry. One complaint I have about this resturant is the organization with the seating. 4 people parties were being sat in a 6 party table while 6 people parties waited outside to get a table. The building is far too small for the amount of people coming in to have these fanominal burgers and there needs to be more organization with the seating arrangements.

This place was amazing! The hostess and servers treat you like family. We felt very comfortable! The menu was plentiful but not overwhelming. We had a fairly short wait time of 10-15 minutes, during which we chose our items from the menu (2 adults and 4 kids) so we were ready to order when we sat down-saved time as we were traveling. We were all happy with our choices. I couldn't believe house moist and juicy the burgers were without falling apart. Had to be the best actual burger I've ever had! The toppings were fantastic too. I had the black and blue hills burger, with blue cheese, grilled onions and that garlic aioli. Flavor city!! My 2 big kids got the Fat Smitty, with an over easy egg on it----- delicious!! And my hubby got the "Fun Guy"- took me a minute to get the pun, it was a swiss mushroom type burger. My littles got a grilled cheese and kids cheeseburger off the kids menu and they were satisfied. We are so glad we got to experience this great restaurant!

Also had the fries and sweet potato fries. Both were crisp and salted to perfection. Can't recommend the food enough. Beyond our expectations. Friendly staff and amazing food. Came all the way from Houston for this restaurant's high reputation. This will definitely be a must-go every trip to the Black Hills. Ordered Mint Shake, Fried Green Tomatoes, Pesto Burger, kids quesadillas. All so good.

The very best burgers I've ever had. We waited hours in line to get into this place. BTW I never wait like that. But I figured there must be a reason that everyone in line would wait so long. What a great burger!! I tried the blue cheese burger at the suggestion of a regular and our server. Good call folks, it was great. This place gets very busy, so be prepared to wait. The fries are average, I suggest the beans as a side rather than the fries. Highly recommend.

It's one thing to say, "Best burger I've ever had", when giving an internet review, however, I also believe that when it comes to most burger joints, all burgers are created equal. This makes it hard to believe such a quote, or review. That being said, every so often you find a place that stands apart from all of the rest as a shining example of what a burger SHOULD be. I can assure you, without a shadow of a doubt in my mind this is that place. The price point is attractive for the size of this thing, and the quality is to die for. With several options ranging from savory to spicy. Served with traditional sides (fries, beans, 'slaw), they also offer soup, vegetarian options, and some non-beef items. I implore you to give this place a try if you're in the area, I cannot recommend this place enough. You will not regret the decision. Honestly, the BEST burger I have ever had.

Really delicious burgers and fries. Patties are juicy and the buns are perfectly soft. Malted milkshakes are great too. All in all a great place for dinner. Minus one star for not being open for dinner on the weekends though. What’s up with that?

We drove up to the City of Custer and had lunch at this popular restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. One of the best hamburgers I have ever had. It had a generous sized patty seasoned to enhance the flavor, cooked to perfection resulting in a tasty and juicy sandwich. Had the best burger I've ever eaten. I believe I had the Black Hills Blues burger with blue cheese crumbles, grilled onions, bacon, and garlic aioli. It was well cooked beautifully tasting but service was fast and that's what counts. Me and my family sat by the window and had a nice view of the town and We just got in yesturday right before 2 pm before they closed until 5. I had a great lunch and would gladly come back again. #CUSTER

Everyone in the family enjoyed! The buffalo burgers were fantastic and prepared and cooked perfectly. My girls enjoyed their kids meals especially the plates the food came on. We were here mid April and there was no wait. However, I hear the summer is super busy so be prepared. I highly recommend coming here for a meal. The food was yummy and the staff was very friendly.

Everything was so good! I had a Greek goddess buffalo burger with sweet potato fries and maple aioli. They also have some vegetarian options, and lots of craft beer. The building is neat and located right in the middle of downtown Custer. If they're busy they will fill up the entire table, so be prepared to meet people! They also have a pay it forward board. Will definitely go again when I'm in town next!

Last night of our 5-night stay in Deadwood, we were turned on to this place from some friends back home in Minnesota. Wow. I had “The Fun Guy” burger. So flavorful, very good. The wait was long — around 1 hour and 15 minutes — but it’s not all that big and, obviously super popular so it was understandable. From what I hear, it’s all family owned. Very friendly service. The next time I’m in Custer I will definitely be back.

Excellent burgers cooked to order. Fresh bread. You can get either beef or buffalo, one or two patties. 10 or so different types of burgers with different toppings, with unique sides such as sweet potato fries and a soup of the day, and nice slices of excellent dessert should you not want to visit the pink pie store down the road. If you're going to the hills, if you're climbing Black Elk peak, visiting Sylvan lake, and you enjoy burgers, you have no excuse to not come here. It's one of the best in the hills, though there are a few others I want to try out yet. Seating is somewhat limited. Atmosphere is very friendly and nice. There's a fossil/gem place next door where I'll go if I get here early and I'll go right at 11AM to avoid the lunch crowd.
