If you think that cute girl carrying food out is the waitress, you are wrong. This place does not have waitresses. Which is the mistake I made when I asked the cute girl to take my order. After my embarrassment, a year later we were married. This place is so unique, and has a great low key vibe. I highly recommend the Old Milwaukee and their custom house drinks.

Went during their Sunday vintage market (not on purpose). The live music was one dude playing guitar and drums while singing. He killed it, great vibes throughout the venue, staff is awesome and beer is cold. Highly recommended to anyone and everyone.

Came here for the Patrick Sweany show. Staff was nice which is sometimes rare for bars downtown. I'd definitely go back.

Stopped in for a beer, was greet by a fellow on the porch who suggested I try the side entrance, which worked for me, guess there was a cover. I was riding the bike, just stopping for a cold one, good tip! Canned beer only, I prefer bottled. Bartender was cool though, pleasant and offered a glass in the midst of a busy bar. Ran into some kid acting like he wanted to play darts, but with no bar darts around, and his unwillingness to let me use his, there was no game. So much for southern hospitality; maybe he's an import? All in all, nice place, might have to give it another shot sometime.

Great hole in the wall bar off the beaten path. Sit on the back deck by the railroad tracks when you can. For a little dive bar, they have some ridiculously good food. I'm not a wings guy, but all of my friends swear by the wings here. I'm more of a bologna sandwich guy myself. Don't make the mistake I made my first time here and try to order a PBR. I was kindly referred to a sign that said "No PBR. Don't ask. We don't care.". This is a Genesee bar. Try it out. Live music here every so often with some great performers.

We all know Realtors like Happy Hour but, when your find 300 of them at the Royal American all at once it’s for a cause. I’m honored to be a part of the Realtor Housing Opportunity Fund ( RHOF ) where #Realtors dig in their own pocket to raise money for affordable housing here in the Charleston Area. The owner and staff of The Royal America did an Amazing job taking great care of all 300 of us at once. The food was fantastic as well. If you are looking for a cool place to have an event or just looking for a great chill bar for regular a happy hour place then check them out.

The food was great. However some in my party had an issue with their food coming out. The drinks were good but one of the bartenders was very unpleasant. He kept acting as tho he didnt see me in front of him. He did it to others i was with as well. I might come back if hes not there. I was also disappointed that the drag show was stuck in a tiny spot not having the performers come to the packed patio...which is the bulk of the seating is.

Ramshackle-cool, hole-in-the-wall venue perfect place to see that not yet famous rock band. Sound is good and compact. Bar has been used as the stage for the band, which gives it a unique flair. Good drinks are flowing Additional outside seating is available as well as a few parking spots. Your motorcycle will look cherry parked in front of this awesome refreshing Charleston establishment.

It was our first time there, and the bartender graciously helped us figure out where to order food (at the bar) and where to grab it (at the window at the opposite side of the room. Royal American is undoubtably one of my favorite hole-in-the-wall dive bars in Charleston. They have a great outdoor patio which is great for enjoying the Charleston weather and maybe a game of flip cup or two. They have extremely affordable pitchers (~$5) as well as other local traps and Light beer. No they do not serve PBR, don't even ask. They have food available as well which always helps to keep me on my feet after a day of activity. I recommend this place for anyone in town trying to satisfy they're Dive Bar kick. They also have live music many nights especially on the weekends.

Stopped out of chance. Was driving by and wanted to find a local eatery. On the north side of East Bay onto Morrison. Decor made you feel like it had been here for ages. Industrial garage funk. Lunch was awesome and I've been told in the evening it picks up with live music. You order at the bar and pickup your food at the window. Don't let that deter you, the food is awesome and the cook is a trained chef.
