The legendary Beacon , it’s one place my family and I will not be eating at again . Over the years and with new management the Beacon has steadily declined in cleanliness. Food preparation areas, bathrooms, floors . What I find so amazing is their score is an “A”. State standards must vary from state to state . You would be better off eating at a chain burger restaurant.

It's sad that the owners think so little of their business that it so dirty. Based on the great people who work there and the history of the place I don't expect it was always this way, but it was probably the dirtiest restaurant I've ever eaten in. And I'm far from a clean freak. Sorry to leave a bad review but it's what I remember, not the great onion rings.

The food was really good. The staff was not at all friendly. I get being busy and they seen to really know their stuff, but there were zero smiles. It felt like I was more of a necessary inconvenience than a welcome customer, spending my money there instead of elsewhere.

Saw this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives from a few years ago. Today, the food was good except the onion rings were barely warm and greasy, and the burger had mayo when we asked it be left off. The service was good, but the restaurant left a lot to be desired when it comes to cleanliness.

Wow, all I can say about this place is" You need to be hungry!" Its a unique place, the kitchen is fun to watch when standing in line,. We rode up from Columbia on a buddy's recommendation and we almost had to pull off the road and take a nap on the way back, we where so full. We rode up and arrived an hour before they opened, rode around town awhile, then rode back 20min before they opened. I was amazed to see at least 30 people in line. The burgers are as big as you want ( One on the menu that weighs a pound. ) The side of onion rings and fries could feed two people.

Phenominal diner food menu with some unexpected items along the way. The portion sizes are huge and the prices were beyond fair for what you received hanging over every side of your plate. I wish I had a picture of my perch sandwhich and peach cobbler. They were both delicious and I certainly will be making a return trip asap.

Absolutely incredible atmosphere with even better food and a legendary history. They had one one the biggest best burgers I've ever had in my life and an absolute mountain of fries and onion rings that only the largest stomach can climb. Old fashioned drive-in type restaurant! It is an icon in the area. Been around since 1946. The onion rings are homemade and amazing. I had the BLT which had enough bacon on it for 2 or 3 BLT sandwiches!

It's an imposition on anyone who likes to eat. I will never go in there again. The "furniture" resembles them in a run-down subway station. The best was Dr. Pepper Cola! Cleanliness leaves much to be desired! Patties, fries and onion rings were so delicious that I threw away more than half of them! Please don't go there and give your money to the people who need it!

A must try place featured on Triple D. The staff was great and told us the story of how they got on the show. Then the food... Just good simple food with super generous portions, I couldn't finish it all. Oh their handmade onion rings were some of my favorites. Make the trip and check them out! I'll be back next time I come through town.

No no and no. We went because we love to watch EDS with Guy. That is the only thing going for it. The food was not good. Yes there is lots of it but not good. Now the sweet tea was great. I am not sure how it passes the inspection. The place was not very clean.

My husband and I were on the way home to FL when we saw signs for the Beacon. Guy from the food Network apparently visited, so we thought we'd try it. I had the sliced pork plate with beans and Mac and cheese. My husband had the flounder sandwich. We also had a sweet tea. We were thoroughly unimpressed. The flounder was nothing special, the beans were not that great, and the pork sandwich was dry. My husband didn't care for the flounder sandwich. The Mac and cheese was really good, but we really didn't care for anything else. I asked for sweet tea, but the guy at the counter gave us tea that tasted like Arnold palmer with lemon when I specifically asked for the sweet tea, not sweet tea with lemon. Another thing....why is it called a drive in when it's clearly not a drive in? We decided to go here because we have dogs and we thought it was a drive in restaurant. Very misleading.

Ate here for the first time today. Was not impressed. Our cheeseburgers was good, but fries and onion rings was so greasy we could not even eat them. I was shocked at the cleanliness of the restaurant. It was bad! I expected more out of it since it is well known in the area. Customer service wasn't bad except the guy at the register was rude.

Never been so disrespected in my life. Customer service ? Yeah right. Called in to kindly let them know our online order was delivered via grub hub and was incorrect.From the time i led With grub hub the lady on the phone who said she was the “owner” told me i was Wrong multiple times and that i did Not in fact pay for something that was not delivered to me and to take it up with grub hub.Even told me she would send me a screenshot to prove to me how wrong in fact i was. After doing so - everything on her end was exactly what we ordered and it was still wrong when it came to us. Having the order plainly written in front of her and still telling me i did Not order what i said. After going back and forth, she then continued to with “cannot reason with unreasonable people” ... say what??!?!? Could not be more disappointed and disgusted in this experience. will not be giving them my business again. And i wouldn't Recommend anyone else do so either unless they want to be told they’re a liar and wrong.

We've been there many times and never had a problem with our orders. Staff is friendly and kids love giving their orders and hearing it yelled back. Sweet tea it excellent and portions are humongous. The Beacon Banana Split is huge and delicious - can definitely feed 2. The Beacon Burger A Pleny is another one of their classic giant meals. LOTS of food for a reasonable price. If you're looking for "fru-fru" food, this isn't the place for you, but if you're looking for a solid meal at a iconic diner, this IS the place for you!

When u use to go there and order "a plenty" u would get so many fries and onion rings that 2 could share or more, but last week when I went there, was only enough for 1 person, at least this is what was on our plate. It isn't what it used to be. But under new owners it is still a greasy spoon icon of tasty goodness. The onion rings are to die for and the the sweet tea is arguably the best the South has to offer. The chilliburgers are excellent. The atmosphere is dated and so are the furnishings, but perhaps that is part of the historical charm?

OMG I found a favorite SC restaurant and may I say the food was beyond wonderful. There is ample parking, the building very clean, staff was super nice, prices can't be beat, the portion size is on the large size. If you are in the area it is well worth a stop. Mu husband and I had to try each other's food because it was so good.

I had fond memories of visiting this place when I was a teenager. I remember getting a burger bigger than my head and more fries than you could shake a stick at, much less actually eat. Well the same holds true for the beacon today, however the burger itself was not so good. The meat reminded me of the quality hamburger patties that graced my plate at my high school cafeteria circa 1996; greyish, rubbery, and often were left questioning it's validity. While not a terrible experience it left a lot to be desired and I don't think I would stop by here again much less take a detour off the interstate while passing though on my way back to Columbia. The Beacon quality of old is long gone. Perhaps they should change the gluttonous portions in favor of a more quality product. Perhaps that would be enough to lure back the masses.

Amazing! The food was great! It had a pretty good atmosphere as well. The ice cream selection was pretty good, not to mention the enormous menu. Definitely got a great amount of food! Do not believe the hype. The food is average at best.. Very loud. Cleanliness is lacking. Ot is in the hood. A very large percentage of staff and customer base seem to be from the hood. A local community leader who is anti 2 nd amendment is always lurking in bathroom... It needs more furniture... A good painting.

The Beacon is a great place to eat! Especially if you're hungry. Most people will recommend the chili-cheese a plenty but if you like BLT's you have to try one. They pile on the bacon, the lettuce and tomato are fresh, and if you add cheese...mmmmm. I think I'll stop on my way home and grab one. Try a banana split too!

If no star was an option that's what they would get. I visited today and was charged 20.96 for 2 bologna sandwiches and 2 teas. When I went back to question I was asked why I didn't question then. Going forward will never eat there again. 7 dollars does not make or break me but it's the principal. Ask for a itemized receipt if you go. They robbing ppl and they don't even realize it. So disappointed. John White would never treat his bread and butter that way.

The burgers here are decent. Onion rings are done the right way. The gent who calls the orders is a piece of local, living history. The place has clearly evolved into more of a dine in then a drive it. To eat in car, you park on one side of the building & honk. The building itself is old & not well kept. It's dirty though out. You bus your own tables & let's face it..people here in the NC/SC area will not do that.

Their food is delicious that pulled pork is awesome the hot dogs with coleslaw or awesome that onion rings are really really good

The absolute rudest manager. Food order was completely wrong. Would not accept responsibility for the order being incorrect, despite a screen shot being sent to prove the order was placed correctly. Seriously this was only supposed to just be an informative call. But after being called unreasonable and hours of going back and forth over $3 and the “owner” becoming more disrespectful this needs to be shown to other customers.
