We came here for a team lunch on the recommendation of one of my coworkers. They do have a buffet sometimes, but not when we were there. It wasn't very crowded and we were seated right away. My husband and I split the butter chicken and the goat masala special. Butter chicken is always one of my favorite Indian dishes and this one didn't disappoint. The goat masala was also good, but the goat was cooked on the bone (fairly normal, but I'm not a big fan). We got the assorted bread basket to share as well which came with naan, garlic naan, roti, and butter roti. The garlic naan was definitely the best and I would probably just do a single order of it next time. Overall the service was good although it was a little slow when it came time to get our checks. Definitely a good Indian restaurant worth checking out.

Wow! I am so impressed with this food. Excellent balance of textures and flavors. Everything is aromatic and fresh. So many colors! The Somasa Chat was outstanding--crunchy and sweet and savory and covered in fresh vegetables with perfect chickpeas. The staff was very friendly. The chai tastes like joy. If you're looking for a new Indian place in the Charlotte/Ballantyne area this is the place! Really great atmosphere, food, and service. They have an extensive menu that even includes some Indo-chinese selections. They feature a lunch buffet daily. The prices are extremely reasonable compared to some of the other surrounding Indian restaurants. We'll be back, soon, for sure!

Amazing food. Having been to every iteration of this specific space, I always hope for a serious aesthetic change(it is needed), that has not happened and that has zero effect on their food quality. Depending on your preference for a dining experience, they are lacking in the whole "cocktail" experience. Or in general the lack thereof in the "full bar"

I love this place! They tastefully converted a pub to an authentic Indian restaurant. The food was great and the staff warm welcoming and efficient. Britney was working the bar and our table of ten. Fourteen years after moving to Charlotte, one of my dreams has FINALLY come true - a delicious Indian restaurant within walking distance of my house! I was excited to see the sign for Dakshin Indian Grill earlier this week, and made it a point to get by there today for their buffet lunch. Charlotte has a lot of Indian restaurants and they vary greatly in quality, not just from restaurant to restaurant, but the food quality between dinner (a la carte portions) and buffet dishes often varies greatly as well, with the buffet at most Indian restaurants being a disappointing shadow of their dinner offerings. At Dakshin Indian Grill, the food on the buffet was fantastic, so I'm really looking forward to trying their dinner menu sometime. They had a variety of dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. There were even two varieties of rice on the buffet: regular Basmati rice, and coconut rice that was very flavorful. The standards were all available: tandoori chicken, chili chicken, and chicken tikka masala, as well as a biryani dish. The buffet also included a spicy aloo dish, a paneer dish with spinach, a variety of other dishes, including fresh vegetables and fruit, and Gulab Jamun for dessert. The real star of the buffet today was the butter naan, which was downright decadent, with clarified butter melted on top. It would have seemed weird to just eat a plate-ful of naan, otherwise I was tempted! The ambience is good, with the interior of the restaurant keeping much of the same structure as prior restaurants, but upgraded with new paint and wall decor. This is Dakshin's first week, and there are a few kinks to be worked out, which is why I went with a 4 star rating instead of 5. The buffet was narrow on one side, but I saw them adjusting and moving it out farther from the wall while I ate. The order of the dishes on the buffet is a little scattered as well, with rice and naan in the middle of the buffet, which makes it difficult to build a base of rice on which to add all the other delicious food. The food was all spiced well, but the potatoes were a little hot/spicy for my taste, and I'm the type who nibbles on pickled jalapenos when bored, so that dish may be a little spicy for others as well. The gravy for the chicken tikka masala was great, but the chicken itself was just a little bit dry. But honestly for them being open for just five days, I was amazed at the spread, variety and flavor of the food overall. Paying for my meal was a little odd. Not bad, just... Different. I paid at the table with my card, which was swiped it at the table, very much like I've experienced in non-US countries, which is great. However, I didn't get a receipt, sign anything or have a chance to leave a tip, which confused me a little. Overall though, I'm thrilled to see a new, unique restaurant open in this space, one that I anticipate I will visit frequently. Dakshin Indian Grill is off to a strong start, and I highly recommend checking out Ballantyne's newest Indian restaurant!

Why do I even have to even give 1 star! The reviews posted about restaurant seems to be biased, it has no where quality of 4.1 rating food or services. I always respect food and never waste it, but they served me stale food. Even mentioned to server, but no response. So full plate empty stomach beacuse I do care about my health. Dilapidated. Waited 30 mins to get a diet Coke. Waitstaff was not really interested in serving us. Tried to order food, however waiter was more concerned with talking with a table that shared his ethnicity. Currently there are 7 customers occupying 3 tables and 3 servers working. Three empty tables are still dirty. Very disappointing experience. If I could leave zero stars...

We had dinner here tonight with another couple. This is my first ever restaurant review and I am doing it because the food is so much better than any other Indian restaurant in Charlotte. We ordered lamb vindaloo, chicken korma, fried rice, bhindi masala, pratha, corn appetizer and chicken 65 appetizer. The appetizer portions were huge and entree sizes were generous as well. The pratha was crispy and delicious, definitely comparable to the ones I get in Singapore. Will definitely return.

This is only second review online ever but I felt I got to. Had food here twice before and it was above average. But today I took my parents for lunch and it was a huge letdown. We only had vegetarian and except for the rajma and mixed veg curry, every other dish sucked. Naans were horrible, very chewy and soggy, veggie balls (sic?) were actually uncooked inside, okra was hard and the peanuts in it half fried. Dosa was soggy. Gulab jamuns were ok, below to average but pretty comparable to what other places have. Busbus (sic) tasted different but I never hsd it before. Overall very disappointed, I honestly hope the usual chef took the day off, if not this place is on its way to down south. Or may be they focus more on the nonveg items. We havent tried.

First The food was warm at best. I ordered a lamb entree and roti and rice. The food was ok wasn’t bland but wasn’t great either.also the egg biryani was just rice and egg which is NOT egg biryani. Second the water cups had dirt covered Around the side of the inside of the cups. The water pitch at my table looked like it had been there a while.third the chef was on the phone when he served the food to me.also the place looks like they just took everything form the western restaurant that was there and used that.at the end I was charged 54.93 Too much in my opinion. Further more they owner who was there didn’t even say hello just smiled and when I sat down she just left and her staff didn’t know what to do which isn’t their fault. I am never coming back to this pace ever. ZERO STARS

Best place to have Indian food with authentic taste of India. Yesterday, it was my first visit there wid my family and we ordered different things. I must say that whatever we had there, that was delicious. Specially paneer tikka and chicken chettinad. Flavor of Goat biryani was also completely authentic with the tenderness of well cooked goat. Our Best Indian Restaurant in Charlotte at present. Every dish is extremely tasty, esp. the Lamb Chops are out of this world. The goat meat is also very succulent. This is a newly opened Indian restaurant in Ballantyne. I visited this restaurant couple of weeks ago for a lunch buffet. The menu was fantastic. The spread for both veg and non veg was quite extensive. The taste and the quality of the food was really good. The deserts and sweets were really good which I generally don't see in other comparable restaurants. So all in all we were quite happy about the restaurant. Really good food. We went for the lunch buffet, and the variety and quality of the food was both great; they had your usual Indian buffet staples, but had a few more uncommon dishes as well. Standouts were the spinach dal, the biryani, and the butter naan (very fresh, very buttery). Most of the foods were not greasy or heavy at all, especially compared to other Indian buffets I've been to. The only downside was that service was a little spotty, but the quality of the food and the reasonable price more than made up for it.

Review for A weekend Buffett: First the kids pricing: we paid $15 for one kid, tax included! Their policy is anyone >6 years is full price. Yes, we paid but that’s the last time we are coming to this place. OWNERS: are you listening: we will not Return because 1. The kids pricing are high (everywhere we have been so far, kids are charged half price) and 2. Food is average at best. B. review on food: overall very neutral flavors, nothing too exciting or better than others. 1. Samosa: just ok. 2. Jalfreezi: average. 3. Tandoori chicken: hard to mess this up but they did. Only good thing is no red color was added. 4. Chili chicken: very good thing: also good with dum biryani. 5. Rogan Josh: too salty. 6. Andhra chicken: very good. 7. Mango lassi: NOT Available!! I wanted to give 0 because I had a very bad experience in this restaurant. We were 5, visited the restaurant in the afternoon and ordered 5 plates of Masala Dosa and 3 plates of Samosa for which they took 30+ minutes to get the food on table. Few things that I noticed 1) It's very expensive and the quality of food is very bad with respect to taste.( To Management - If you charge more make sure you give quality food) 2) The white chutney they provided was old, you can easily make it out from the taste 3) Time management, the restaurant wasn't busy yet they took a lot of time to get the food on table 4) Have the generosity to accept negative feedback given by the customer, don't act like you haven't heard the customers.

I visited with my family looking at the reviews. For more than 30 to 40 mins, I dint find the buffet refilled. I went on and on to check if they refilled they said someone is going to fill but it was the same. You can only see the non-veg labels. Imagine this was on a weekend -Sunday! There are some good Indian restaurants in Charlotte, if you want to go for lunch buffet.

Came here for Dosa and not the buffet, so read accordingly. The Dosa felt half cooked, tasting of batter. Anf the chutneys and sambar were really disappointingly, especially the coconut chutney. Not recommended due to low qualify of food and high prices. The only things good about this place is the ambiance.

The staff was extremely friendly and the food was so extremely good! It was so authentic, it reminded me of India and I was crying as I was eating! I've never had a more emotional food experience! I highly recommend this restaurant! Best one in the area...

Great Food for Catering. I ordered food with this place for over 200 people. I was not sure what food i have to select as i have diversified ethnicity of people who is attending the party. Manager from Dakshin assisted me multiple options and privided the quotes for each. I got the great feedback from our guests. I’m on Cloud9 now

I went with my family with super excitement, we got food on our table after 50 minutes of wait time. Very poor service, they even forgot items from what we ordered. Only explanation they had was “Sorry sir today we have shortage of staff”.

This restaurant truly deserves 5 stars and nothing less! Excellent food and impeccable hospitable service. It never happens that we visit the same restaurant twice in a week and this restaurant breaks that. Do give it a try, you wont be disappointed! Lunch buffet is worth every penny, wide selection of entrees and desserts

We got to try out a new Indian restaurant that opened up in Ballantyne last night! Everything we ordered was super yummy with fair prices! The chicken tikka masala is definitely on the sweeter and creamier side, which I love. The garlic naan bread was as big as my face. The fried cauliflower wasn’t a sticky and sour hot mess (thank goodness!). I swear the cauliflower tasted like tandoori. Finally, the veggie samosa was suuper stuffed and was hot fire flames yummy!!!!!! Pretty sure I ate more here than at Thanksgiving! So happy to have a decent Indian restaurant near my home!!

Okay let me take time to provide my review in detail. This must be the first time I left an Indian place woth buffet with a half filled belly. Reason: ofcourse food was not good but atleast should be hot. We arrived at 2:10 pm and they close at 3:00 pm. So if 50 mins was not good enough to maintain the temperature and replenish the food items pleaaaaassse put a sign saying come before whatever time you feel is good enough to maintain hot. Items tried: Everything What's not good: Everything Surprised curd rice is something that cannot be a disappointment when you go to any indian resaturant since that will be the easiest item to make especially in Indian food. But nope, you found a way to make me hate curd rice as well. Am restrciting to just 1 item but please feel free to reach out if you want me to describe each and every item on the menu. Hopefully you tske this seriously and work on the quality.

we decided to try this place for Saturday night and we are so disappointed. We were seated at 8.25 pm and ordered our starters soon after but the first starters were not delivered until 9.45, after 2 reminders. The starters were delivered partially and one remaining item was delivered much later. Only a small fraction of our entrees were delivered at 10, after seceral escalations. They had just lost it totally and service was in shambles. We confronted the owner and he made excuses about how everyone came in at the same time and it thre the staff into chais. From what we could see, they were severely understaffed and we would have appreciated if he had taken responsibility for the debacle, instead he just made excuses. We finally ate whatever was delivered, the staff were only too delighted to cancel the remaining order and left the place at 10.20 pm. I left the staff a 15% tip anyway, did not want to punish them for a bad management, they had already taken an earful from several disgruntled customers. Definitely not visiting this place again.

The BEST Biriyani ! We always go for the lunch buffet. They have a nice mix of salads and vegetarian options. Seating is limited but the atmosphere is warm and staff are always friendly. This restaurant will continue to be our first choice when we are in the mood for some Indian cuisine!

OMG very flavorful and delicious! This one beats Blue Taj by far. We ordered paneer biryani, malai kofta and methi matar paneer. All three were on point with spice level, flavor and quantity. The service was great and enough seating, given we did go on a Monday night. I'm ready to go back again and try the saag paneer. I hope this restaurant keeps up the quality of food and is here to stay for a while.
