This Restaurant is classified in the category of Indian restaurant.
Quaint place, great staff, wonderful for a date
The spicy lamb I ordered was very dry, not spicy at all, and actually cold (!) The “spicy” french fries were just regular french fries. In addition, I was overcharged. At first I thought maybe the employee had misheard my order and thought I had double ordered something, but the total cost of the food brought out did not add up. Had been excited to try this place, but fairly disappointed and will not be returning.
The food was good but the service we had to wait long time and our orders were all messed up. Had to go back and request for the missed items.
Had a wonderful South Indian meal, along with some ice cold Taj Mahal beer on a stinking hot evening. It was excellent!
We loved it! Good size portions and the food was delicious. Try the Jamun dessert. Highly recommended.
Tried last week and it was more like home cooked meal. It is amazing that they are trying to make everything from scratch in a small kitchen and nothing from frozen. I know a bit about Indian cooking and it involves extensive cooking process including making dry masala mix and curry bases. I loved the clean open kitchen and to see everything in action.
What an absolutely letdown. The first time I ate here it was unbelievably good. A month later the whole structure of the restaurant has changed and the food is terrible.
Very nice goat curry. Authentic Indian food Naan and roti was best too. Keep it up.
Good one.. Shrimp curry is amazing ..
I usually stick with what I know but I had an MUSC event for some of our Drs and Alumni for a reunion weekend and needed to switch things up. Coorg was new and so we took a chance AND WE WERE SO HAPPY WE DID! The staff and chef were super customer friendly to accommodate and guide us on what would be best to serve to a crowd of 40. Some items they felt best served from oven to table only. They are still building up the catering business and wanted to make sure everyone was happy. The curry shrimp was a hit! The rice, ribs, and paneer were also favorites and people kept going back. They toned down the spicy heat for some of the dishes since, while it was a diverse crowd, it was still fairly American in terms of the food they were used to having at these events. So I highly recommended Coorg and cannot wait to go back to the restaurant and have some of their fabulous coffee and chai and try some of the things we were not able to have for the event. It is a family run restaurant where everything is made fresh with pride in everything they do! I highly recommend giving Coorg a try.
This was so disappointing. We got the pork and the chicken, along with some cardboard Naan and rice. I would not return. There is also not one vegetable on the menu. I was so excited to have an Indian restaurant that is convenient but i don’t expect this one to survive. The above is my initial review and I gave it one star. I am changing it to three stars, after revisiting the restaurant. I am impressed that they accepted the feedback and made notable improvements so have increased my review based on a sample of two visits.
So glad we received a flyer about this restaurant in our mailbox! We love Indian food and have really missed it since moving to MP from Chicago. The food was really good. I had the hot Chicken Tikka Masala and appreciated that it was spicy and not overly creamy or rich. The entree came with rice, cooked broccoli and carrots. My husband, who rarely eats a vegetable, said the carrots were his favorite part of the meal. Also enjoyed the chutneys and the coffee. Next time we’ll save room for dessert. Our dinner portions were so large we have lunch for tomorrow. Staff was friendly and attentive. We’ll be back and recommend it to our friends.
My middle school son and I grab breakfast this morning at Coorg...Very nice addition to the Coleman food scene. I had the coffee and sausage croissant. My son had the mango lappe and yogurt granola. We were both very happy. Great spot.
Visited recently for dinner. The food was very good. The Coorg style chicken and lamb sauces were definitely different flavors from the usual North India Region restaurants, and the pork dish was very unique. This is a welcome addition to the very limited Indian restaurant scene in the Charleston area. I have to say I had been wanting to try this place and reading the reviews since I first heard about it opening in January. It seems they have dropped several things from their menu that earlier reviewers raved about, for example the the goat and dosas. I think they are still tweaking their menu and method of operation, so I can only hope that these will return, maybe as day-of-the-week specials if not regular items.
I love it. Very good food, unique to Mt Pleasant. Great staff, good prices, great portions, authentic. It was great.
Just as many others have said, BLAND food, not authentic Indian food. Staff was great though
They have a few vegan items as well as some containing meat-pork and chicken as I recall. Not a full service restaurant, but more of a cafeteria walk up and coffee shop. Plenty of tables/booths inside and a few outdoor tables under an awning.. Friendly, customer service oriented folks and free Wi-Fi, although I didn't see the password.
I went to coorg a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I had the coorg pork and it was incredible. Additionally, the portions we're large so I had enough for left overs! Also, it's worth noting that the decor was absolutely incredible. The place just had a really good feel to it. It was more contemporary than the other Indian restaurants I've been to in chuck. I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for Indian grub
We were so excited that an Indian place opened in Mt. P. Very disappointed in the customer service, super long wait, the lack of acknowledgement staff gives to customers waiting. Waited for nearly 2 hours to sit down, decided to take it to go and that took longer. Our To-go order was very disappointing on top of the time wasted waiting to place an order. The portions were so tiny, the chicken curry had barely any gravy and 3 bites worth of chicken, the paratha had no flavor and very oily, rice was decent but container was so small. Very disappointed in the entire experience!
Very clean café. Has limited menu- but everything tastes fresh. Has a nice look and feel unlike other Indian places that are dark and noisy. Will visit again next time we come to Charleston.
Authentic, home style Indian food. Family owned and run restaurant. Sublime Coorg coffee. Coorg became our favorite restaurant in Mount Pleasant and Charleston.
Really wanted to like it but I didn’t. At all. Very Americanized. Nice people but very sub par food!
Only had a latte, but it was delightful! The coffee beans are grown at the family farm in Indian, dried on the front porch, then roasted here on-site. The flavor is rich and robust. I love dark coffee, so I was more than pleased! Price point is a little higher at $4 for a small (only option), but so worth it for the occasional treat. Treat yourself and enjoy!
My husband and I visited this restaurant on our last night in the Charleston area. We were delighted with the food and the extra effort the staff went through to pack our leftovers well enough to survive an eight hour cooler adventure! We are enjoying delicious food again tonight after a long day driving.
I was hesitant to visit here due to a few one star reviews but this place is awesome. The food is delicious and unique in its flavor. We ordered Roti roll, dosa and coffee. The Rotis are thin and delicious. This is one of the best Indian restaurants.
I was looking forward to trying this restaurant and had high hopes. It was extremely disappointing and I did not even finish the meal. There was absolutely no taste whatsoever. I have had great Indian food and know what it should taste like. I am not sure what this was. Maybe they are catering to people who don’t know and think that’s what Indian should taste like( totally bland) but Charleston is a foodie place where there are people who have been exposed and know the difference. What a waste.
Love this place, great family owned restaurant, great coffee and food!
Awesome place to hang around, lovely ambience, good food, very hospitable...
Delicious. Highly recommend the spicy chicken. Also in-house roasted coffee direct from India! Great atmosphere and friendly service.
Coorg cafe, as always was excellent. I will post few pics soon. BTW, their menu is upgraded. Got few local Southerners to taste their pork, which is their signature dish. I can't eat it but unequivocally they literally drooled over it. It is a specialty of Coorg district in India and they seem to know how to perfectly make it. So wait for the pics!
We just got pickup from this place and the food had no flavor. The naan that we ordered with the food tasted like a pancake. I was excited about an Indian retaurant in Mt. Pleasant but that was very disappointing.
This is my second visit here and I see a lot has changed. Coorg pork and spicy lamb is my favorite here. They were very tasty this time. Will visit again soon.
The food is enough to give this place 5 stars, but I also really like the environment there. Feels very clean, casual and welcoming.
Delicious food and fast, friendly service. Can’t wait to go back!
First ever Indian restaurant in Mt Pleasant SC. Mutton curry was very tasty.
Usually I’m not one to give such lowly-rated reviews, but Coorg unfortunately does not stand out as anything extraordinary. We sat ourselves at a booth towards the back of Coorg and, despite making eye contact with servers multiple times, did not get a (non-alcoholic) drink order placed until many minutes into our meal. The staff seemed reluctant to address us and we resorted to going to the bar for a refill. My companion and I ordered the tikka masala and spicy chicken entrees for our dinner. Upon getting our food, we noticed how runny the Tika Masala sauce was. Granted the kitchen of Coorg is small, the food did not taste like it was simmered in sauce. Instead, it felt as if every aspect of the entree was prepared separately and mixed together only once put on our plate. The entrees were both spicy but not intolerably so—I definitely would have finished my plate had the food been better. I am still fearful that the staff think I couldn’t finish because of “white people spice intolerance” and not because the food actually tasted watered-down and covered up by spice in panic. I came to Coorg expecting the home-cooked Indian food I love: after all, the restaurant is family-owned and run and kids were sitting in the restaurant reading while their family worked. But unfortunately, the food did not feel family-style at all, which sucks because I wanted to like it so much. Overall, Coorg is an okay place to get food. The service was not the best and the food was just mediocre. If you want to drink alcohol and eat non-American food it’s actually a good place to go. But for a homemade Indian meal, I recommend going elsewhere.
Very unique Indian cuisine.
Another delicious meal at Coorg Indian Cafe. Had the Coorg Pork. It had just the right amount of spice. It came with coconut rice and Cucumber Salad. The coffee beans are imported from India and roasted on site. Great finish to a wonderful meal!
Great place to eat. Food was very flavorful with good portions. Must try if you like Indian food.
Wonderful Indian dishes with a very friendly staff. I hope they stick around.
Food took nearly 35 to 40 minutes, ordered the signature coorg goat which was nothing but fat and bones and at nearly $20 i would not come back. Hope they get their quality better.
Had the sampler platter with pork, chicken and shrimp and it was fantastic! The coconut rice is so good I ordered a second side of it. Fast and friendly service can’t wait to come back.
Great authentic food and experience. Best Indian food in Mt. Pleasant/Charleston.
My husband and I went to this place for dinner. This is was our first time and we ordered Chicken Wings, Naan, and Paneer Tikka Masala curry. Chicken Wings were very bland and boring. Naan was definitely not made fresh and was out of a bag. Paneer Tikka masala curry was actually Matar Paneer and had no taste what so ever. I do not recommend going to this place.
Some of the best coffee I've ever had!
We just had our anniversary dinner there, in two words, mind blowing!!!! Small cute cafe with authentic cuisine, generous portion size, attention to cleanliness, warm hospitality and yum yum food.
Loved this place! The coffee is strong and just yum. The food though with limited offerings has the right balance of spices- a little spicy for me; but husband and son loved the lamb and shrimp we had for dinner. Definitely recommending to our friends.
The food is really good, but the coffee is great! The staff are friendly and it's worth getting to know them.
I had high hopes for this place but the food was bland, atmosphere was cold, and service was slow. Also expensive for the portion sizes. I was looking forward to delicious Indian food in Mount Pleasant but this is not it. So disappointing!
Delicious food! Curry chicken was outstanding!
The price of meal is expensive for the amount served. Portions are small. The food is average at best. Rice is dry. Naan bread is greasy and tasteless. Young kids of owners were running in and out of food preparation area. Staff was unattentive. Waited 10 min. To be seated when there were empty tables available. Will not go back to this restaurant.
That tea was amazing!! Thank you guys..
Food was fantastic. Perfect amount of spice. Highly recommend.
If you're looking for authentic Coorg coffee and home style Indian cuisine, look no further, This is it!! We absolutely love the place and will definitely keep going back. The owners are fabulous and there is a genuine personal touch to everything about this café. No looking at Starbucks the same way anymore for me, thanks to Coorg coffee!!!
Delicous and fresh to order
Amazing Indian food and the best coffee anywhere. The owner gets the coffee from his family farm in India and roasts it onsite. He even has coffee with chicory for you old school southerners. Awesome.
I love Indian food! We tried Coorg Indian Cafe and loved it!! Coffee, pork and lamb curry was tasty. My friends had vegetarian curries and liked it too. I would definitely recommend the place. They serve alcohol as well!
Awesome spot and delicious food
Hubby and Kids loved the Pork ribs & Goat Curry !
We loved it. Feels fresh and light unlike the few Indian places we have eaten where they use butter and cream heavily. Liked the simple no nonsense ambience as well.
The worse Indian food ever :( I am a real Indian food buff, and this was the worse in every way: 1- The Naan was not Naan at all, but basic pita you can buy at Harristeeter 2- The chicken was barely flavored, as far from real Tandoori chicken as you get etc etc. Bad :(
Truly an unpleasant experience. Staff was very rude and doesn’t acknowledge customers, food is subpar, not very much flavoring and rice was dry - very very small portions for the price. The wait is ridiculous and wasn't a busy time. Wanted to like this place. Will not be returning!
As someone who loves Indian food and coffee I had been wanting to try Coorg Cafe from the moment I heard about it. It's not the cheapest lunch at $10 a plate, but the quality was fantastic!! Great vegan options, healthy, hot, and flavorful! I also got a masala chai. Be warned it is not the same as the chai you'd get at an American cafe. It is more traditional: more tea like than latte like. Apparently, they roast their own coffee in small batches within the cafe! I will definitely have to come back for the coffee!
Loved it! Get out and support them. Mt. Pleasant has a massive shortage of ethnic food, and need the love so we can all enjoy. Great spot. Spicy lamb was legit. Stop the negative reviews just move on. Cheering for y'all.
