Food is overpriced and does not taste up to par with what they charge. Very loud in here when busy. Quesadillas maybe the best option here. Do not get the jerk chicken. There are better sea food places around the island.

After walking more than 6 miles we came upon this place and found ice cold beer from Tim, our bartender, and great food from our waiter who was on the money with drinks and even water. Had our orders done right. Food is really, really good. The Calamari and Ceasar Salad is a must. Also the NY Sirloin and Lobster was cooked PERFECTLY. But again I just can't say enough about our waiter, Randy, great guy, funny, personable and on the money with our beers and food. Dinner for two with three rounds the Calamari Caesar Salad, Coconut Shrimp Wrap and the NY Strip w/Lobster plus generous tip came to $140 even. If we didn't have the six beers take off $40.00. Well worth it. A must go to if you're here.

Service was great! Food was delicious. I had lobster Mac and cheese. Husband had sword fish. It was out of this world. This place is not handicapped accible at all. Most building Downton Newport are not. Makes it hard for me glad I took a walker instead of only my power chair only. They did show me out the back the kitchen door to make it easier. Did I mention no wait at 5:30! On a Thursday. Drawback 20$ to park at the lot at peer close by for a few hours.

I started with the French Onion soup which was amazing. Then ordered the Fish and Chips for my meal. The fish was very tasty and the portions were huge. Two people could easily split the fish and chips. I will definitely plan to come again on my next trip.

This was a great place to stop for lunch. The food was delicious. Best New England Clam Chouder I had in Newport. Servers were very nice and helpful. I suggest this place for anyone visiting the area.

Great variety of food and both dishes I had were delicious. Went twice in the span of one week and each time the staff was friendly and polite. Service was quick but we didn’t feel rushed (keep in mind I went during the off season). Large restaurant with plenty of seating. Only issue, the same issue with any restaurant in downtown Newport, was parking. Street parking and parking lots available but nothing immediately adjacent to the restaurant. During off season not as much of an issue. Would return again.

We had lunch and a few drinks at red parrot and we can't complain about anything at all. Food was delicious (I had an ahi tuna roll and my husband had New England clam chowder and the blue burger), I would even say it's been the best clam chowder we've ever tried. Drinks were quite strong but delicious. Definitely coming back next time we're in Newport.

The food was excellent as was the service. Our waiter did a super job getting answers to our questions (my wife is gluten intolerant). The chicken I got was tender and tasty. My wife got lobster salad and the amount of lobster was amazing. She said it was well worth whatever they would charge but the price was extremely reasonable. I got a local brew and that was great too. The restaurant is well laid out with ample space between tables and sound absorbing items on the walls so that we mature folks can talk and hear without shouting. We had a very relaxing time interspersed with excellent food. I highly recommend the red parrot restaurant- you will not be sorry if you give it a try.

We ate here two nights in a row while staying in Newport. The food was great the first night, and so-so the second night. We both had Steak stuffed with Lobster on Saturday and we both had Kobe Beef Hamburger on Sunday. The service could not have been more different. On Saturday night we were seating on the third level and were served by Jackie. This was some of the best service I have every received at any restaurant ever. On Sunday night we sat at a high top on first level by the bar and were served by Alvaro? This was actually some of the worst service I have had received.

The skirt steak with mushroom, caramelized onion and topped with gorgonzola is amazing. It is served with fresh beans and mashed potatoes. The space is large and can be full of guests. It can get vocally loud as drinks flow, good times are had, and the meals prove satisfaction for foodies.

The frozen drinks was great, the food was tasty, and the building is fun. 1 star off for all of our side dishes being incorrect, the food took longer than it should, and the lobster cracking implements were too small for the job. All in all a good meal and I would definitely go back if I wasn't in a hurry.

Awesome food, awesome drinks, awesome staff, awesome location. Nothing bad to say about this place. Love the lobster Mac n cheese, it's a must get. Also got the swedish fish drink which was pretty good too. Parking can be tricky during peak season and peak hours. Definitely worth it when you're in the area though.

This restaurant is a nice place to hang out. Prices were bit high compared to the '$$' sign. Food was good though. We ordered coconut shrimp and lobster quesadillas, both were delicious. With these 2 items along with 2 drinks our bill was around 50 USD.

Sat on 3rd floor, corner table with windows all around...great view! Food was fresh and tasted wonderful....popeye spinach chicken sandwich, veggie burger and coconut shrimp on chicken. was well worth it.

This was a wonderful restaurant to visit. The food was amazing and our waitress Sam was very informative and made wonderful recommendations. We enjoyed our lunch there so much that we came back later that night for drinks at the bar. Michael the bartender was very personable and made us delicious drinks. This bar had many creative specialty cocktails at reasonable prices. Rhonda the manager also made very good suggestions and was extremely welcoming and hospitable. The environment in the restaurant and in the bar section was great! I highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you have not done so already. Thanks again to Sam, Michael, and Rhonda!

OMG!! The lobster nachos are out of this world! Make sure to try it if you like lobster. The cheese sauce on it is delicious! I also ordered the lobster sole which was good. The lobster is in the middle of the sole like a sandwich. The fish is lightly fried. Try to make a reservation because the wait can be long! It's a three level restaurant but the demand is high for dinner. We got there around 7 pm on a Saturday night and was given an hour and a half wait for 6 people and an hour wait for 4 people. It gave us a chance to walk around and have dinner in reverse. Dessert first at an ice cream place called Kilwins

Service is great. The waiters are very attentive with water and the atmosphere is nice and everything seems really clean. The two stars are for the food. I got the coconut shrimp wrap and mango salsa. My friend also got the same thing. I think I got three whole pieces of shrimp in my wrap. The fruit in the shrimp wrap was weird. I understand mango in a wrap but the mandarin orange and pineapple makes the wrap too sweet. I think I got more avocado than shrimp in my wrap. My friend had the same thing and she got about 4 pieces of shrimp in her wrap. The mango salsa that came with the wrap was very sweet. It wasn’t awful but it wasn’t great. The chips were kinda stale and salty. My other friend had a lobster quesadilla and while she did like it the quesadilla was very soggy. She did say the cheese and lobster was good. We also ordered Thai spring rolls. The spring rolls were soggy and had little to no filling. I could tell the spring rolls were frozen before hand. Overall, wouldn’t recommend this place.

DO NOT GO IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 1 HOUR ON YOUR MEETER. Food was okay but the service for lunch was VERY slow. So slow I had to take the majority of my food to go because my parking expired.

We had the chowders. They are tasty. The key lime martini wasn't good and cost $13. Yikes. Oh well. The stripper burger was yummy. Cooked well. My husband had the Caribbean jerk wings. No dessert and the total was $66. The place has a few levels. The third floor is very loud. Be prepared it's a tourist trap. Always busy. Each time I've come the food has been good.

Great environment, food and drinks! Went there a few weeks ago had the yummy swedish fish drink, a must try!!!! When we left my husband forgot his phone! He hadn’t realized it until we were back home in CT! The staff found it and the manager Laurie called me to let me know they had found it, she was so helpful, so much so that she even shipped it out to us after I told her we were from out of town! THANK YOU LAURIE!!! You and your staff are awesome!

We had a good experience at the Red Parrot restaurant. The food was delicious overall, but the service was not. It took our waitor a while to refill our waters. It also took a while for the food to come out, but considering the fact that the restaurant is 3 stories tall, I am ok with that. One of my family members ordered pasta, and he was never asked if he wanted cheese. The burgers were pretty big and juicy as well. However, we were never offered appetizers or drinks at the beginning of our meal. Besides some of the small things mentioned above, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice place to eat on Thames Street.

The food is mediocre. The service was great. I'm only giving it two starts because my boyfriend who is 22 and is of age to drink was continuously questioned about his license. They took his license for over 10 minutes and made him fill out paperwork claiming it was real. The servers clearly had no servsafe alcohol training. This situation made us feel unwanted at the restaurant and uncomfortable. Will not be back.

So I gotta say this place his Huge! I didn't anticipate on going here due to the wait but it was well worth it. They have a pretty quick turn around time. The wait staff was super friendly and our waitress was extremely nice and helpful. I was on a strict diet and I decided to break it with moderation. We started out with the lobster nachos, which by the way were phenomenal. I ended up going with the BBQ ribs and chicken with rice and asparagus. Everything could have fed 3 people easily. I used portion control last night to say the least. My lunch was amazing the next day. I would go here any day of the week. Plus Newport is awesome and everything is within walking distance

Love the food! But this time a/c stopped working and salad was warm as could be, like not refrigerated warm! If you are in the Newport go to the Red Parrot. The place is pretty large and chances are you will get a table by just walking in. The menu is extensive and everything was great but I do recommend the lobster nachos. The fish entrees are excellent as well.

Ordered 2 specialty drinks that were very good. They have a nice variety of fruity alcoholic drinks. Also ordered the lobster bisque which was amazing. It came with homemade croutons. Also ordered the calamari pizza. The calamari was fantastic however the cherry peppers must be from a jar packed in oil because the pizza crust was so oily and limp we couldn't eat it as pizza. So try the calamari but skip the calamari pizza.

Overall this restaurant is expensive and their food is just average. Service staff seems to be overworked with the large amount of guests they get. An average entree costs between $25 to $30. Appetizers cost $12- $20. We were a group of 4 adults and 5 kids and the total bill was about $270 for a lunch. Even after repeatedly asking for crayons for kids, none were provided. Parking is an issue in this area. If you are lucky you'll get street parking that you have to pay for. Portion sizes are good. Wait time is not too bad.

Went here because was turned away next-door at the Midtown Oyster Bar because I was wearing a backwards hat. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. Very happy to go in here. The bartender was very helpful with drinks and the food smelled amazing(was walking up and down and wasn't ready for dinner yet)! Will definitely come back!

They have a large large menu and a friendly wait staff: something for everyone. Dishes are a generous size and were tasty. Parking may be a challenge but this is a worthwhile place to stop for a bite after visiting the mansions and other beautiful sights to round up a day trip in Newport.

I had the goat berry salad. This was the best salad I have had in years. All the greens were fresh and crisp. Walnuts were wonderful. You could compare it to Longhorn's strawberry pecan salad but the salad I had today at Red Parrot was much better

Super delicious! Came here for the 1st time today to celebrate my husband and I 's anniversary. We ordered shrimp cocktail, Lobster Mac&Cheese Fries, Seafood Pasta-Alfredo and the Lobster Mac&Cheese pasta dish. Everything came out hot, fresh and very tasty!!! Our server was very sweet. Polite and friendly. Restaurant was spotless and inviting. Would 100% recommend to family and friends and will for sure come back!!!

Our "go to," favorite restaurant when visiting Newport, RI. 4 of us had late lunch. 1 lobster bisque, 2 clam chowders. All were very good and served hot. Entrees included a salad with a sesame/teriyaki glazed salmon; salad with coconut shrimp; 2 shared a flatbread with goat cheese and fig jam after each having the chowder. All were very good. Will save room for desserts next time. No alcohol this trip, just water, lemonade, and iced tea. Yes, there are quite a few restaurants in Newport; however, we have never been disappointed at The Red Parrot.

Nice spot in downtown Newport. Bartender was friendly and attentive. We got some apps which were good and they didn’t rush us with our entree which a lot of places do. Ordered NY strip stuffed with lobster but it didn’t live up to expectations. Steak was over cooked and lobster was underwhelming. Vegetables almost came out cold. Overall the place is a cool vibe but I would definitely stick to simpler meals if I go back.

This was the last dinner on our vacation which also happened to fall on my birthday. My husband and I dressed up for the occasion and politely asked our waitress to take a picture of us. I guess she didn’t care otherwise because she didn’t bother to ask if we were celebrating anything. It was apparently birthday night at the red parrot since two tables down and right across from us were other, larger birthday groups. However, it wasn’t crazy busy and it literally felt like anything more than just basic service would be too troublesome for our waitress. We ordered a the seared scallops appetizer and two main seafood entrees and the food is the only reason why it got the extra star, albeit it’s a touch pricey for the quality. We would’ve stayed for desert had I not been so underwhelmed by the lack of service. We could’ve had better service, better food, and felt more welcome had we just stayed at home instead of going on vacation to Newport. For reference, we are from a small coastal town in Florida and we surely missed its hospitality. For all the trips we’ve taken, I have never felt more isolated and lonely traveling with my husband than this trip to Newport and this was the cherry on top.

The Red Parrot is a gem. We had a great meal of gluten free pasta with Alfredo with seafood folded in. Others have told me that their experience was quite different. The Portobello sandwich lacked flavor and was poorly seasoned. So I won't give a five star review, but will say that my own experience in the restaurant was very good.

Food was okay, slightly overpriced for what you actually get, but was clean and tasted good, nothing crazy. Regarding the establishment, our experience on the third floor was ruined by one simple detail, everyone is literally screaming at each other, you can't have a normal conversation and no one is doing anything about it. Perhaps it's calmer during other hours of the day (not between 9-10pm).

Great staff, unbelievably extensive menu, haven't had a meal I didn't love and I have worked that menu!! A favorite: the lobster martini app, it's a meal in itself...

We really enjoyed this place. They have a huge menu and a large selection of drinks too. We've never been here before. Stopped in for dinner for our Anniversary. We're from out of state, glad we found this place. The prices are reasonable too.

Visiting from out of state and it was across the street from our hotel. Very convenient. If you drive here, the parking is tricky. I thought the food was great! A tad pricey but good quality. Huge menu, nice atmosphere. Family friendly but good for a date too. Our waiter was great. I would go back.

We always go there when we are in Newport. Yesterday was the last time. The host was bothered we wanted to sit upstairs. Waitress was nice. Food was less than mediocre. Dry fish. Waitress said that type of fish is a usually dry. Wow.

Had to walk three flights of stairs just to be sat at a table with no view. The menu had a wide enough selection to cater to most cravings. They also have a kid's menu (which is great for families). Food was decent and portions were reasonable for what you're paying.

Basic! I could have went to a fast food restaurant if I wanted to waste $30. At least I can expect reheated food there. I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese. It took no more than 6min for the entree to be set in front of me to consume. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my phone to take a picture. But, it was unappealing for sure. “It” looked like some Easy Mac/pasta stirred together with boiled lobster shreds with sprinkled breadcrumbs with some cartoon-like sriracha sauce squirted on the side of the plate like SpongeBob Squarepants hopped out the water and applied it himself. I went around 530pm on 19SEP19. Sat at the bar. That was the first and last time I’ll be going.

So don’t order the clams and mussels here....it says on the menu that it is mussels and clams app....you get 4 clams and 20 mussels apparently which was told to us after the order arrived ....well, we got three clams only...not even what was supposed to come in the order and the manager was so non Chalant and did absolutely nothing about it! The menu here is very mis leading and I’m sorry but they need a different manager running this place. Very unprofessional and rude. I am a bar manager myself and have been for 20 years and if I ever have an unhappy customer I definitely handle the item and not just say sorry can’t do anything but let the owner know. Well here I am......Letting the owner know myself and future patrons here. Don’t waste your time or money at this place. Won’t EVER return and I have over 50 family members in town for a wedding. They won’t be here either. Go elsewhere!
