We always go to Moorings for at least one meal when in Newport. We always sit at bar unless we go with party over two. Food was good wife having lobster app and I had chowder. Chowder not as good as usual but still very good. When made right their chowder is best I have ever had. Wife liked my chowder so she had that for main meal and I had lobster roll. Lobster roll used to come on toasted brioche sandwich bun but mine came on hot dog roll. It was still good but not as good as exceptional as when it's on brioche toasted bun. Service with Andrew is always great, he is a great bartender and has a pleasant person with a comfortable local and inviting personality. Matt a new bartender to us was a nice guy but seemed to try to put on a show rather than be down to earth and real. Was a bit annoying. As long as Drew and Mark are behind the bar we will always go for at least one meal while in Newport.

We had dinner here yesterday that was absolutely amazing. I also ordered a chocolate martini that would not be too strong and the first drink was, so David our server said he would have it done just right and it was. I had the swordfish that was done perfectly and delicious. My family ordered the pork chop special that was so tender and the steak dinner melted in your mouth. We ordered desserts to go that were also delicious. Everything was perfect and our server David was the best. Great place! Janet

I ordered the lobster donuts because I read about them on the internet ..tasty, but just high carbs with very tiny flakes of seafood so skip this one unless you like gaining weight. My hubby enjoyed his fish and chips and I liked my lobster roll with lots of lobster in this dish! The alcoholic drinks were great! Go for the "Painkiller" one if you like coconut and rum. Our waitress was very helpful and nice. We got a seat by the water just like I asked the day before too

I'm not a seafood person, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the "from the land" menu options. $26 for a marinated flank steak? Maybe it's coming from Manhattan, maybe it's just a good value, all things considered, but I was very happy with the meat, the service, the ambiance, etc. Side of basically uncooked potatoes was disappointing, but I definitely didn't need any more food after focusing on the steak (and stealing a few of my GF's fries).

The dinner my wife and I had last night was beyond expectations. From the moment we were seated it was excellent. Brittany was our server and her service was perfect, there at the right time and spot on with the pace of the meal and wine/menu suggestions. The new executive chef Jen has a great team and the Filet Mignon special I had was so good. Not a single detail was out of place. Dan, Luke, and any others on the management team deserve kudos for the way the restaurant is run, WELL DONE!!!

First off the restaurant is lovely. We get there and ordered a few appetizers, "mexican corn and crab cake" which were delicious but that stopped there. Everything we orderd after that was tasteless and over cooked. My husband ordered a steak and it wasbover cooked and tough. Not worth 45$. I order lovster ravioli and rissotto which were both tasteless and didnt eat it. U took it home but it ended u 000p in the trash. We were expecting alot more frkm this restaurant considering the pricing for the food. Very disappointed and will not be returning.

Flash back in time? 1967-69 while stationed at the naval base (COMCRUDESLANT) I made the Mooring my home away from home . A very relaxing location for soaking up suds and other libations while enjoying a live band. Back in those good old days it was fun, after the place closed for the evening to trip down the cobble stone Thames Street - tripping would be to say the least. More so - stumble and fall would be more appropriate! What great memories. Rhode Island will always remain special to me!!!

I was really disappointed with my existence here. That my meal tasted good was its only saving grace. We were told that this restaurant was a hearty place to eat and catch the sunset. So, we scheduled our day so that we would eat around sunset. We made a reservation for 1/2 hour before sunset and asked for seating in the room with an ocean view. When we got there, we had to wait for seats to become available. It was at the time the sun was to set when we were finally seated. I was only more disappointed when we realized that we were below the boats that were docked and the blocked the any view of the sunset. Once seated, the service left a lot to be desired. It seemed to take forever before the server came to us. We would request things like water or sugar for coffee and it would take a long time to get them. I got a backed stuffed cod that was flaky and tasty. The dessert sampler was small but satisfying. If I weren't there with my wife, the over 2 hour experience would have been extremely frustrating.

Went to visit Newport RI, and came here after a day at the beach and was satisfied. The Rhode Island Stuffed Clams were great with the Local Hot Sauce. The service was somewhat slow as we were waiting for our main dish for quite sometime with the kids. The waitress, then kept giving our kids cola as to try to appease us, ( The soft drinks were comped on the final bill) . My wife had the Lobster roll , it was average, I had the baked Cod , which was good. They had a very good beer selection both on draft and cans/ bottles. Not a 5 star experience, but still a decent experience and view of the yacht s in the harbour . Lots of competition all around, so I'm not sure if I would return...

This place is truly a 5 star restaurant. The staff was amazing. The attention to detail was second to none. The drinks stayed full. The ambience was very elegant inside and out. The view of the harbor was great! I had the 16oz Ribeye and it was outstanding! My wife had the stuffed lobster and it was delicious! Whether your from out of state like us or a local looking for a higher end dining experience, this your place!

We sat down at the bar by the window. I ordered a drink called “my best life” from the cocktail menu and the bartender told me he couldn’t make that because the menu he gave us was out of date and he didn’t have the ingredients to make it anymore. The ingredients are pretty commons at most places that have a full bar so I asked which one was missing and he said cranberry juice. Uh what??? Anyway, I ordered a different drink called “the mooring pain killer” with vodka instead of rum and the old bartender was laughing and said “it’s not much difference”. Anyway I got with vodka, and I thought “it’s good”. The bartender thought it was funny. He moved to other customers across us and I could hear him talking about what happened between he and I. He brought up the story and was laughing at me. Then he spent tons of time BSing with them and not coming by to check on us when our cups were empty or we were ready to order dinner. I was uncomfortable the whole dinner time. Food was good but this is an example of ONE person’s service ruining the whole dinner.

Extremely helpful staff. We were running late for our reservation, on a busy Saturday, but I called ahead and they said "no problem." The crab cake appetizer was delcious! Lots of crab and no bell peppers and the accompanying sauce was delectable. My husband got a warm lobster roll with butter (off menu) and enjoyed it. My fish and chips were giant and wonderful. I also tried the summer mocktail, which I highly recommend. We were seated out by the water and it was perfectly picturesque.

Both the appetizer and the main course were extremely oversalted! No other flavor came through...I had stuffed fillet of sole for main course with asparagus. Asparagus was limp and overdone. The seafood stuffing was more like breadcrumbs and the presentation was lacking for the dish's pricetag.

Real simple ... if I'm ever back in Newport, go to The Mooring. Everything was great. We got the Chowder, bag of doughnuts (fried ball of lobster and shrimp), fried calamari, and Portuguese Cod. Next time get the Lobster Ravioli. It looked awesome.

Went with a party of 8. Ordered 2lb lobster clam bake. Lobster came out 1.25lb, they took 25 minutes to bring out the corrected 2lb. Their excuse was that it takes a long time to cook a lobster. Interesting since the first one came out in 10. Then one of the clams was pitch black and unopened, we opened it out of curiosity and it was FULL of black muddy grime. The manager said that it happens sometimes. I wish I had a picture of this tarball, but it def isn't normal. Chorizo was dry and nasty. Mussels and clams tiny. The lobster was good tho. And the waitress was sweet.

Good seafood here. My buddy and I went here after seeing fireworks for the Newport Bridge's 50th anniversary. The seafood platter from the raw bar was awesome! Oysters, clams, shrimp, and lobster claws. Pricey, as one should expect, but worth it in my opinion. Don't necessarily have to dress up to go here, either, which is nice.

We finished our vacation with dinner at The Mooring. All of our food selections ( clam chowder, scallop chowder, seafood ravioli, salmon and halibut on rice)were excellent! Drinks were quite tasty ( especially the Blanton's bourbon). The best part of our evening though was our server Jenn! She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect! Thank you! We will definitely be back the next time that we are in town.

Worth the wait. Don't worry about getting reservations. Just go and get on the waiting list. They take your number and text you when your table is ready. Tge restaurant is beautiful. Food great. The standouts for us was the deluxe seafood tower, the clam chowder and the bag of doughnuts (fritters)

We were seated quickly on the back patio. We had an appetizer and two entrees. Our appetizer (Bag of Donuts) was delicious, and exceptionally filling so try to place yourself . We followed the appetizer with the special of the day, which was a Mahi wrap, and the Lobster Ravioli. Both were absolutely delicious, the only reason it did not recieve a 5 star is simply because our waitress detracted from the experience, by maintaining a look of absence. Not the best pictures so I apologize in advance.

Appetizers were great and the dessert was also great. Main courses however were severely bland. The steak had very little seasoning and not enough flavor to make up for it. The seafood pasta was also bland, and just simply not seasoned or prepared well. However this is not the worst part. Our server was offended at the notion that I did not enjoy the meal and was largely absent. Worst of all when we asked for butter, she gave us one that clearly already had a slice taken out of it. Not what I would expect from a restaurant rated this high.

This place is surprisingly delightful for a vegetarian! The staff were so helpful, supporting and knowledgable about vegetarian options. They also took my partner's onion allergy very seriously! They work hard to ensure no cross contamination. The waiter was very familiar with the entire menu and specials and offered great suggestions. This is definitely a good place for a nice family dinner (and is vegetarian-friendly!)

The wait for the food was around 30 minutes even though they were dead. Then after receiving our food it was nothing special. After we reviewed our bill we noticed that the price on the bill didn’t match the prices on the menu. We brought this up our waiter fixed it but it still did not match the menu. This brought us to talk to the owner who said charge them and give change back very rudely. The did not give the correct change back and continued the rude attitude.

Visiting NewPort from the city we found this restaurant. The clam chowder portion was amazing with big size clams within. The portion for seafood pasta was generous and the scallops in it tasted wonderful to perfection. Seafood platter was the best of all. All the seafood was fresh and delightful.

We’ve visited a number of times over the years and always enjoyed the food, ambiance, and views. Our dinner last night was good as usual. I do have two gripes though. Our server was good but still in training. For $200 I would have preferred more experienced service. Also the parking. $8 an hour is ridiculous with no validation. We are extremely happy with the experience we had. There was an hour wait for the table. We walked around Newport until we received the text out table was ready. Took about 5-10 minutes to walk back and the table was waiting. We had a nice seat overlooking the bay. The service is attentive an friendly. Our waitress was helpful in assisting with the selection process. The follow up was frequent but not overbearing. The food was some of the best tasting meals I have had. We started with appetizers of a lobster and shrimp fritter served with a honey chipotle aioli maynesses and a bowel of mussels with chorizo in a white wine broth. Both were excellent and we cheated and dipped the fritters into the mussels broth. For dinner we had a lobster ravioli dish in sherry cream sauce with sautéed shrimp and scallops and a sautéed lobster, shrimp and scallops salad. The flavor were vibrant and delicious. We will be back!

Fantastic seafood restaurant right on the water with friendly, accommodating staff and a great atmosphere. Calamari, poke, clams, oysters, and mussels are all crazy good. Strangely enough, the salmon wasn’t great (just a bit over-cooked two nights in a row in different dishes), but a wonderful all around otherwise. If you’re in the Newport area and looking for a great place for a night out, this is it!

The view was absolutely beautiful and the wait staff were amazing. The food was a little bland, I got the lobster roll and it did not have very much flavor. I also got a bloody Mary which was also a little disappointing, kind of like watered down tomato juice and vodka. Overall I had a good experience but it was pricey food for it to be bland.

The special was really delicious a pan seared cod, with potatoes nicely spiced, and lobster sauce on top, it was thing to die for, and the appetizers were unique and tasty: cheese, strawberry, and arugula. The atmosphere by the water was really nice and beautiful. Out server was awesome, I am sorry that I forgot her name but she friendly, good with recommendations and what not, she made the experience much more pleasant!!! Kudos to a fantastic restaurant.

We have gone to this restaurant a few times. Food is very good! We were seated right away. I had the signature burger, shrimp banh mi for my daughter and wife and other daughter has the fish and chips. Everything was very good. Will visit next time we are in Newport.

A wonderful restaurant by the waterfront. Food was delicious, and service was speedy and attentive despite the place being fully booked. The 2 things to consider if you are planning to eat here is that 1) the parking is not validated and you will have to pay full price to park if intending to park by the restuarant itself; and 2) reservations are recommended as it books out quickly during peak season. People who didnt have reservations were given 1hr+ wait times, so keep that in mind.

Lovely place to come with views of the boats. As you enter it feels a bit like a pub with the dark wood but towards the back there is open terrace seating where you can enjoy a meal outdoors. There is a bar area as well if you want something more informal. Fresh seafood and table service available.

An absolutely top flight eatery. The customer service was outstanding and the food was exceptional. They had a wonderful sampler of oysters, fresh-caught, and naturally their menu features a lot of seafood. Plenty of other options were available including vegetarian and beef. Was a long wait to get a table but that's almost always a good sign. Get reservations ahead of time. The customer service was thorough if a little slow but the waiter was exceptionally polite and knowledgeable. They have a complete gluten free menu and are very accommodating of dietary needs.

Good food with amazing views of the harbor. A few things that could be improved: 1) service was extremely slow, probably the slowest I have seen. It took us 2 hours for lunch and most of the time we were just waiting. In the end I had to walk over and hand over my credit at the counter and ask for my check. 2) the outside floor was dangerously slippery, a restaurant like this is expected to take care every small detail.

Dinner was a bit disappointing. Starters (stuffed clams) were good. Mains (lobster ravioli and striped bass) were average and presentation was disappointing. Also, not much ambience (lighting, music). And waiter started cleaning floor. There a better places in Newport.

This restaurant has a really great view! We came here for a birthday, and the meal was wonderful. My other two party members got the 2lb lobster, and I chose the lobster ravioli. Everything was excellent. Service was good. However, since we were there for a birthday, we included that it was a birthday celebration while making a reservation, the host even mentioned it when seating us, as well as the server when greeting us. However, at the end of meal no birthday desert was presented. Perhaps I am wrong, but I thought they did this here? The table next to us did receive one, and again I may be wrong and they just ordered a desert on their own. This did however detract from the overall experience, but it still was a great meal.

I came here with my fam. The food was good overall probably 4 star worth, but I knocked it down for the service. They did not give you any bread before the food came and we definitely felt rushed. In the end they took the check before we had left the table which you are not supposed to do. So overall I gave it an average rating since dining is not just about the food, but also the experience provided.

What an amazing experience. We were seated near the water as we requested, and we were able to watch the sun set as we ordered our food. I very unfortunately forget the name of our server, but she was an absolute gem. The whole staff was excellent, actually. All of the staff makes it a point to check every table as they pass by, regardless of whether or not it's theirs. Several times servers other than our own asked us if we'd like our tables cleared when we had finished that part of our meals. I cannot stress enough that the staff was absolutely the number one reason for this review. On top of the staff, our food was fantastic. It was cooked to perfection and was served in a timely fashion. Props to the chef(s) in back. Beautifully done behind the scenes and they probably don't get enough praise from the customers. I got lobster and my boyfriend got steak and it was both filling and DELICIOUS. The facility was clean and all around it was a great experience. I never write reviews but i was truly impressed by the service and those who served us. Thank you so much!

The service was good and food was great. The crabcake was wonderful with lotte filler (pure crabmeat), the filet was cooked perfectly and the burger was amazingly flavorful. The shrimp and lobster fritters I would not suggest as there was very little shrimp or lobster seemed more like hush puppies. Overall great experice!

Horrible dining experience. Went there for a light dinner cup of soup and one crab cake. Well I left with a hefty bill, threw up right outside and still had to pay their parking attendant. Go at your own risk. Honestly I dont see anything special about the place beside being by the water. Not worth the hype or the cost

I was highly dissatisfied with the initial service at the bar! There were several staff members behind the bar and only one working. I sat for almost 5 minutes before even getting acknowledged, I almost walked out!! However, since it cost $7 to park, I decided to wait it out and at least have a cocktail.. Once the waiter acknowledged me I told him how upset I was not with him but with the other unprofessional bartender. The older man was actually speaking to a contractor about his personal business. I truly believe all customers should be treated equal weather if you are a regular or not. The place was not busy at the time therefor there was no way that I could be overlooked. .. All and all lunch was very good and service was excellent once I expressed my disappointment.

We got here right as they opened and had an amazing seafood meal right at the bar! I think we spent a solid 2 hours here but they were attentive and helpful, and the food & drinks were awesome! We didn't sit by the windows, but I could tell that they do have great views of the water from the restaurant. We had a group of 4 and we all enjoyed our dishes - I think some of us even got a second round of food! - and the sangria was so refreshing! This place is very popular in the evening hours, though, so make sure you have reservations!
