Prosciutto wrapped Cod was great! Atmosphere is dimly lit and comfortable, empty wine bottles deck the walls. Service was a tad bit slow but it was Friday night and packed there. The server was very polite but could have check on us once or twice more.

For a restaurant of this caliber it was okay, the service was the biggest problem. Our waitress seemed to be very nice but she wasn't a good waitress. She was MIA during most of the night. We where a party of 5 two of us arrived shortly after the first 3 order cocktails 2 cocktails were off of the cocktail menu and a bottle of wine was ordered one of the 2 cocktails was incorrectly made and was sent back. By the time the waitress came to take our cocktail order a good 20 minutes later I had already started drinking wine that was on the table so I didn't order a drink. We asked a random waitress if she would ask our waitress to bring us some bread some she gave us the basket that she had in her hand it had 4 slices of bread in it. Finally our waitress reappeared and she took our order. Food actually came out in a timely manner but some of our food was really hot and some of it was warm at best waitress never came to see how our dinner was . When we ordered dessert we also ordered espresso Martinis she left the table before everyone finished ordering and we had to call her back so everyone could order their drinks we asked for the rocks from the Martinis to be on the side we actually got clean rocks on the side not what we specifically asked for. The larger issue with this restaurant was lack of a front of the house manager.a manager would have easily seen that our waitress is really not cut out for this type of job.

A stopped for a mid afternoon snack with my wife. Shared a prosciutto and broccoli rave pizza with a glass of wine. It was fantastic. Nice thin crust with plenty of toppings. The owner came around to make sure everything was good. The waitress was perfect. The gelato, espresso and salted caramel, were very good. (The caramel was awesome. )

This was not our first night there, have gone many times and we are always very satisfied. Tonight we had a salad with our meal that was a “special”.We never asked a price because , how expensive can an arugula salad be !?Well surprise,surprise!!! $15.00!!!!! That’s $5.00 less than the price of my entree!!!!Shame on you Tavolo! But shame on me for not asking.I just don’t like leaving feeling I was ripped off. Not saying you shouldn’t try this restaurant because it is delish, just know what your paying for!! I suggest a separate menu for specials WITH prices!

April waitress got order wrong and buy the time the correct meal came my 5 friends were done eating. April did not give much concern. Veal chop was nearly raw and I was not going to sent it back. Was not a pleasant experience. I noticed she stood by door, maybe to see if I was going to complain. Should have giving something to are party for their mistake.

I have been here several times...the food is fantastic..however..just experienced restaurant week and although they did not have my choice of wine..offered me several others.. I did choose one but did not disclose to me the cost..nor did i ask..maybe my bad..but was completely shocked when I got the bill. It would be nice to let people know in advance what the cost is so they have the opportunity to decide..rather than just assume...lesson learned..never AGAIN

If you are searching for a restaurant that serves fresh seafood, a great Bolognese and a crispy wedge salad, look no further than Tavalo. While a reservation is an absolute must, the service, decor and food validate the requirement. Our table ordered dishes that included the colossal scallops atop risotto, Bolognese, beet and a wedge salad and all the dishes were cooked perfectly and served expeditiously. While each table has a dedicated wait person, there are others that serve your food and pick up empty dishes to ensure timely delivery and table cleanliness. The layout is designed to baffle ambient noise -which allows conversation without having to compensate for others talking around you.

Waitress was great. The drinks were great. The food....meh. I had the $32 swordfish!!!! Holy Toledo it was mediocre at best but because it was a "special" I didn't know how expensive it was so I didn't say anything. My dates beef shank was tough like leather. I had to chew my taste for quite a bit. Definitely will not be back.

Wanted to enjoy a glass of wine at the bar at the Smithfield location on a Sunday afternoon. Arrived and the server said with a grouchy tone, “there’s no bartender, you can’t sit at the bar”. When another guest asked if they would be able to order drinks without a bartender, same server responded in the same tone, “well, I’ll do the best I can!”. We walked out. Not the attitude we expected after the great experiences we’ve had on Federal Hill. Won’t be visiting this location again.

Thought the food was pretty tasty, a little salty so taste it before you season anything.. The waitress was extremely slow with our order, especially when there wasn't many people in the restaurant at the time, boy did we wait. The portions were adequate , could have been a bit better for the price that they ask. I would have given four stars except for the waitress and the Filthy Glass that they gave me which had a ginger ale in it. That was disgusting, was going to walk out but I kept my cool. Hopefully I don't get sick, because you don't know what germs are flying around anymore.

Had lunch there yesterday. Good looking place. Service was a little slow. We both had chicken parm. The pasta was cold and the chicken was so over cooked it was even hard cut. Neither one of us finished it, or even half. Wasn't even asked if it was ok. We were very disappointed.

Wife got the braised shank with gnocchi, and I got the braised ribs. Both were enjoyable, though we liked each other's dishes more. Bread pudding was a lovely finish to the meal. Cheryl was our server, and she was great. We don't drink wine, but that won't stop us from going back.

Went here for a work event and wasn't impressed. The service was awful. I enjoyed the steak frites but it did not make up for the service. I even called the next day and was going to explain my concerns to a manager. They stated there was no manager on and took down my name and number for them to return my call. I never heard back from anyone. Wont be returning after that.

We were so thrilled with the attention to detail that Sherri and her staff lavished upon us for our son's rehearsal dinner last week. The private room was very comfortable for 32 people and the menu was absolutely delicious. And the desserts were incredible. My boyfriend and I went to dinner here for restaurant week. Great atmosphere and service but terrible food. “Fake Italian” would be how I describe it. The tomato’s in the caprese salad weren’t fresh (the tomato’s looked like stop and shop off-season tomato’s) calamari was soggy, pasta sauce on the chicken Parm tasted out of a jar, and braised beef was overpowered by the asparagus. We got dessert to go and we just tried it and it was pretty awful... how can you mess up dessert? 2 stars were given for the service/ atmosphere.. otherwise it would have gotten 0.

I Went yesterday with family for my daughter's B'day dinner. Ambiance is nice but very dark inside. Bread basket was more like home made simple bread, no flavor. Ordered large glass (9 Ounce) of red wine, I can bet it wasn't that much and was poured to last bit from the bottle. There was lot of sediment at the bottom of the glass, brought to waitress's notice, she just ignored. Asked for Sangria, tasted like candy and heavily watered down, absolute no taste. Chicken Parm was soggy and sauce was watery and chunky. Penne vodka with chicken, sauce was good but chicken was crunchy. Pan Roasted Statler Chicken Breast was again crunchy and not cooked thoroughly, porcini stuffed purses that came along were tasting good. Spinach at the bottom has lot of left over water and wasn't seasoned. Worst Margherita Pizza ever, it was thin crust hard and chewy with loads of yellow cheese, there was no basil flavor that is synonymous with it. Server didn't even come back to check on the food, more than half food was not consumed, Bad experience.

My bolognese over cheese ravioli was delicious. My husband's steak fretes not so much. Meat tasted old and fries were soggy. Oil for the extremely hard bread was so spicey it could not be eaten. The main problem however was how we were treated by our server. I ordered a 6oz glass of wine and my husband ordered a 9oz. When they arrived they were both the same size. I said to myself that we both got 6oz pours. A few minutes later I told our server about the wine situation and she proceeded to argue with us and tell us how wrong we were! The few dollars difference was not the point. She was basically telling us we were liars and blind liars at that! Goodbye Tavolo.

This is definitely worth your time and dining experience. We tried the swordfish steak and beef shank with pasta. The swordfish was cooked perfectly. Clean tasting with white meaty flesh no brown or gamey taste. Large portions too! Vegetables cooked well not overdone either. The beef shank and pasta was really good not heavy. It was flavorful and a generous portion as well. Absolutely delicious meal and the wine selection is great. The service is top notch, we had Chris and he was excellent. We sat down right away on a busy night with no reservations. We will definitely be back.

We went here for Restaurant week and were impressed by the length and variety of the selections. All the food was excellent. I would come back for the desserts alone! Mondays are half off wine bottles. As the name imples, the wine list was extensive with a good variety of prices. Finally, the staff and ambiance were great. My only caveat - the exterior does not match the interior. Don't judge a book by its cover!

Tavolo exists in a weird spot: it's not some hard to reach, bad parking fancy restaurant in the city. Yet it is fancy and the food is of quality but with a more casual atmosphere. The radio music is very faint and never obnoxious. I recommend a Groupon. I was very pleased with our jovial and efficient waiter, Chris.

Complete disappointment. Came here for dinner with some friends. Had my mind set on grilled chicken. When I told the waitress I just wanted a side of grilled chicken she looked at me and said "that's all you want".. She was rude and obnoxious. I really didn't appreciate it. I'm pregnant. The food was amazing! The service was fast and very professional. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because we had our 1 year old with us...they had high chairs but not one person even acknowledged her existence. They didn't look at her, they don't have a kids menu and didn't offer a smaller portion because they didn't have a kids menu. They actually just acted like she wasn't there. Thankfully the portions on their menu was large enough for me to share. I will definitely go back when we come back to town - I will just find a sitter.

I go to providence about 6/7 weeks a year for work trips and always come to this restaurant for dinner at least one of the nights. The food is amazing and for the most part always feel welcomed (which has been most of the times). The only thing is that there are sometimes a bit of a wait to get checked in which can be improved upon. Furthermore, the food is reasonably priced and never been disappointed in what was received. I'd recommend this.
