I very much enjoy going to Newport when the weather is nice, but bad service is such a buzz kill. The waitress was clearly overwhelmed, but that's not an excuse to be rude. I honestly don't know how she makes any money there. It would've been nice to order my meal without receiving the look of death for asking a simple question about the strawberry sriracha chicken. The food overall is actually pretty decent, but the dining experience made me regret walking away from The Red Parrot's 45 minute wait.

I was at this bar on vacation and saw the doorman yell at a service member who who just wanted to use the rest room after being there for 2 hours. The door man said" I don't care about who you are you can wait ". Even after I intervened he wouldn't let he poor guy guy in. This bar pretends to love the USA but it's just a show.

Great atmosphere and beers. Went in at about 5pm on a Saturday and they weren't packed. Got a couple beers and some raw bar. Solid price on littlenecks and oysters, served with cocktail sauce and horseradish. Very pleasant staff.

AMAZING FOOD! We went here because we liked their Restaurant Week selection and were astonished by how good it is. The Buffalo Chicken Caesar Nachos are beyond anything, and the lobster gnocchi is incredible. This is truly a hidden gem and deserves a much higher rating. No complains, 10/10 would go back.

BY FAR, the best food for the price in Newport. The tuna is amazing, the sirloin steak is great, the Bermuda fish chowder is a really different, really funky, tasty dish that I love also. Fun atmosphere, and always money well spent.

Short drive up the street ATLANTIC GRILLE, Aquidneck Ave. much much better atmosphere and service. I wouldn't even give one star if I didn't have to. One thing after the next with this place. Dirty water glasses then the daquari comes out with hairs in it. White girl comes in with black guy people trying to be funny, first and last time here for sure. Guess they don't know what money looks like lol Terrible service I wouldn't recommend to anyone trying to enjoy themselves.

5 stars were earned early by the owners who greeted our party of 8 as walk-ups on a very busy Saturday evening to get us seated within an hour. 3 stars were lost by our waiter who took our first drink order then never returned so we had to order from the bar afterwards. He also took our food order then we were served by other staff...all the while watching our main waiter check on other tables, clean glasses behind the bar, check his phone in the server station by the restrooms, etc. We finally got him to bring our bill ...and then had to find the owner to run the cards 15 minutes later. The ambience felt like a local get together, the other patrons seemed to be lively and happy with drinks flowing, and our food was almost worth the wait, so... I'd go again and find the waitress that was working 20x harder than our waiter for a proper experience.

The menu here is pretty exciting. It changes a bit from time to time seasonally and includes a local flair with some Portuguese and Italian touches. A carnivore or vegetarian/pescatarian would fare well here. I live locally and this is not just a tourist restaurant. In fact, I’m glad it is in a highly trafficked area to leave a good impression on tourists! Service is good. Full bar. Pub food to date night dishes. Sorry I don’t have a photo!

I ordered the black bean burger, and after being a vegetarian for almost 10 years, I will confidentially say that this black bean burger was the best I ever had. The hummus on the sandwich was creamy and complimented the burger very well, also I thought it was very thoughtful that the cucumbers wereshredded instead of being served as a chip because it allowed me to have an equally distributed bite.. Also enjoyed the soft pretzels as an appetizer.. Fantastic, server was friendly and service was prompt, also had an outdoor seating, would highly recommend!!!

Beware of this place. I went with my girlfriend tonight and a very strange bartender was all over us and we honestly believed he spiked our drinks with some type of mouth/numbing agent we both had a very strange feeling the man was constantly checking on us and he wasn't even our waiter. We became very nervous and couldn't even finish our meals and don't have any idea what really happened but we both left feeling very strange. Use caution everybody else but this strange waiter with tattoos and light skin was good to us it was just a strange night.

The story I heard sounds like a legend. A few of the greatest bartenders Newport has ever seen bought a bar. The rest is Speakeasy! If you don't feel welcomed and somehow don't have a good time....it's you. You're not a fun person and should probably find a boring bar to drink in. The wait staff, bouncers, and greeters are very professional. They do their jobs well to make sure everyone has an excellent time.

Fun bar with live music. Bar is L shaped along the first lower floor and is difficult to get 1 of the 2 bartenders working to get a drink quickly, but the place was packed on a Friday night with music lovers and dancing queens. The place is suitable for most 21+ with a bit of a edge to the late 20's. Being in my 30's I felt slightly out of place but the music catered to all generations from late 70's to current pop hits. Beer's were about $5 for bottles which didn't feel overpriced. Didn't get a chance to eat as I came late night but it was nice to not have to pay a cover at the door.

My Wife and I hadn’t been in a few years. After leaving we couldn’t stop talking about how GREAT Speakeasy is! We had half dozen shrimp cocktail, half dozen oysters, crab cake with kimchi, tuna poké, Bermuda fish chowder(best one we’ve ever had including in Bermuda!) and we split a lobster roll. It was all excellently prepared and especially for the location very reasonable! Staff is all very attentive and friendly! If you’re in Newport, don’t miss this place!!!

On vacation in Newport. A young gentleman staff member at out hotel recommended SpeakEasy to us, so we gave it a try. Staff was friendly and inviting. Pace was nice. Food was delicious. We tried the quohoag appetizer (which was unfortunately only one - it was well seasoned, a bit of a spicy kick). My daughter had the gnocchi special and I had the burger which had fresh crabmeat, cheddar and guacamole

Open air bar, small, but nice. Great service. Live bands. Crowd is early to late 30s. This bar is next door to a much better bar, with a livley younger crowd (20s), but no complaints with this one, esspcially if you just want a semi cool night without the hangover tomorrow. Oh, one thing, the decor is very odd. Definitely wouldn't consider this a whisky or speakeasy type bar.

Not impressed at all by our server , she was a bit condescending and did not bother to check for refills , not attentive at all . The Turkey burger we ordered was good and at a reasonable price . Definitely recommend a word to this particular server today by the Manager , Saturday Nov. 24 , 2018 around 3 p.m.

I was visiting Newport with a couple of girlfriends last weekend and ended up at Speakeasy by chance - it's clearly a locals hang out and we had the BEST time -the bar owner who also tends bar is a total gem and made us feel welcome and comfortable; he is a great guy who wants his customers to have fun while in his bar! Very fun bar atmosphere and if you are visiting I would def stop in for a few!

I mean they make pretty strong drinks IF you’re lucky enough to get one. Went there two nights in a row and the bartenders pay attention to certain people only which appear to be regulars or friends of the staff. One brunette bartender in particular would literally tell us she would be right with us and look at us with this snarky look while taking care of a bunch of other people who just walked up to the bar when she had literally already confirmed she knew we were waiting forever! We were not the only ones who had an issue getting served.

We enjoyed the food here pretty well. The cheeseburger is excellent the burgers are tasty, and this is really in the middle of all of Newport's main shopping area primary shopping and shops area. So you don't have to go far at all, you're right in the middle of it . The clam chowder was good, but not as sick as some of had… Still excellent stuff. The selection of beer is great! To me, this place embodies everything that is Newport charm. Indoor outdoor bar with excellent food, some of the most reasonable drink prices in town, and an excellent staff! We were here both days of the weekend we were in town, and on day 2, we let the bartender know we were on a bar crawl, and he helped chart it out for us. Great people, Great food, Great atmosphere! This place is extremely sexist my husband and colleagues were denied seating because our men were wearing fashionable tanks when There were clearly women in there wearing tanks and enjoying their meals.No where on their website does it specify a dress code. Even if the food is good I don’t recommend supporting a business that turns customers away based on articles of clothing and gender.

First time I came here I had the best mussels I’ve ever had in my life. I literally drank the broth when I was done. Next time they were decent but not quite as good. Everything else has been delicious though and the service is always great.

After you’re done visiting the mansions, beaches and enjoying an expensive cocktail at one of the many tourist hot spots with great views, bring your appetite abd thirst to this great establishment that won’t break bank. We enjoyed fabulous cocktails and $10 appetizers that were too good to pass up. My Margarita made with Patron was also $10 in a huge glass. I paid $18 for one a half hour prior in the smallest glass I’ve ever had. The good was delicious and the service was excellent!! Don’t eat anywhere else.

By far, my favorite place to come in Newport any time of day. It’s a fun environment at night for drinks and live music. Also, I just had lunch here with my boyfriend and it was FANTASTIC! Recommend the cheese platter to all the cheese lovers out there.

Ordered fisherman's platter. The menu listed this to include: fish, shrimp, calamati, whole belly clams and scallops. When we finally got our food (with our drinks being empty for sometime now) my boyfriend asked for his drink at that time. I realized no salt and pepper were at our table either so when that was finally received I noticed my plate didn't have any fish or calamari so I double checked with my waitress, thinking I maybe ordered wrong. She tells me "there's fish and calamari in there somewhere". Puzzled and sifting though my plate, she says I'll double check with the cook. After being avoided and passed by another 5 min. I finally get her attention and she tells me the cook said "not only were they included in my dish but, my batch had also got extra"!!! At this point I sarcastically laughed and she asked if I'd like some made on the side, I said no of course. When finished she walks out with a side of calamari only and places it near me. Not big on calamari anyway, I ate 2 pieces but still never received a fish nugget. Lol. I was appalled with my plate right in front of her she had the audacity to tell me "it's in there" just know this: your service was terrible. Been there in the past but only for the bar. Maybe you should consider limiting your menu? Sorry can't come up with a better excuse for you. BAD EXPERIENCE #BARRESCUENEEDEDHERE

Did not make it into the front door, bar bouncer wouldn't let my friend in. Accused him of being under 21 when he was 28 and took his ID and kicked him out telling him too call the police too get his ID back. We waited 15 minutes for police officers too show up,killing our night. The owner came out with the bouncer didn't say one word too us patted the officer on the back asking how his night was by first name

Half & Half. Sharon had the double burger I had the crabmeat burger. The double burger was two large burgers - a large amount of good ground bee - a lot of good food at a reasonable price. The crabmeat burger (cost about twice as much) a large burger covered with a thin, thin layer of crab meat - a decent amount of ground beef with little crabmeat - about half the food at about double the price. Where is the crabmeat???

This bartender bent my ID in half thinking I was "underage" and then refused to serve my other friends. Then he proceeded to be rude to me until me and my friends left. I tried to be polite as me and my friends are graduate students trying to have a drink and enjoy our night. Unfortunately this bartender ruined the night. My advice is to not go here if you are a young professional. I want my $17.50 back for the new ID I had to purchase.

Speak easy? Speak loudly is more appropriate. Very loud, food was ok, drinks were ok. Any port in a storm, right? Also, bathrooms could use a little work. This gem of decor was screwed to the wall tighter than a Van Gogh at a museum.

I got kicked out for being black. No joke. Three white guys saw me and said they didn't like me being there so the bouncer called the cops on me. I recorded most of this. When I first got kicked out they said I was being verbally aggressive. Later the manager told me and a police officer that I was following women into the bathroom. Never going there again.

So I decided to give this place a try after visiting Newport a few times a year. I sure hope the manager reads this. (Visit date: 5/10/15) We were greeted by a young female host who told us we could be seated soon however our waitress is running a little behind and it might take a "few minutes" for her to get to our table. After sitting for 25m, we were finally greeted by our waitress. After placing our orders for drinks and lunch, it took another 20m just to get our drinks and another 40m just to get our clam chowder soups. It was clear that the restaurant was short handed that day. What I don't understand is why were they seating customers when they couldn't serve them on time? Our food when it finally arrived was very good but the service was absolutely horrible. I probably would not return again. We spent well over $140 and left unsatisfied.
