I have to start by saying the noise here is overwhelming. We were there in a Wednesday night and the manager kindly sat us in an area that might be a bit quieter. However, it sounded like everyone in the restaurant was yelling. This place was louder than a packed bar with a band. For the price, you would expect a nice, quality sit down place, but we had to yell at each other just to hear. We ended up not talking because you couldn’t hear anyone else. The food and service was excellent. We would have stayed for dessert and more drinks but didn’t because it was so loud. We went somewhere else.

I would give 10 stars if I could! This place is amazing!! The best culinary experience I've ever had hands down. Our waitress Debra Lee went out of her way to make us comfortable on the patio at sunset. Providing blankets and outdoor heaters. It was our anniversary so the chef surprised us with a few specialties after explaining what we liked and disliked. The rare veal tenderloin melted in my mouth and the sauce complemented it perfectly. My wife loved her scallops which were cooked perfectly. The espresso dessert was out of this world!! Super friendly staff, amazing chef, hidden gem in Newport. Must visit!

The websites menu does not match the menu in the restaurant. The food was ok. You'd think a nice place like this would have the website up to date. When we asked about the online menu they made some excuse about google which made no sense.

From appetizers to dessert, we had an amazing dining experience at Scarpetta. The staff rolled out the red carpet for us and treated us like royalty as we celebrated our wedding anniversary. Every course was a masterpiece and tasted just as delicious as it looked. The sommelier was so knowledgeable and helped us select the very best quality wines to go with each part of the meal. The pasta was scrumptious. Our main course of filet mignon was cooked to perfection. We saved just enough room for dessert, thankfully, because it was absolutely divine. It was so artfully arranged that we almost felt guilty eating it! What a delicious treat. The atmosphere was relaxing, inviting and romantic. The wait staff was extremely professional and attentive. We can’t wait to return! If you are planning a special meal in Newport, we highly recommend Scarpetta.

Excellent service, food and atmosphere. Don't be misled by the fact that the restaurant is shared during the day with Gurney's hotel breakfast and lunch, which was terrible on all accounts. Our Scarpetta experience was amazing!

Had my engagement here. I could not be happier with my experience. I had asked them if they could take a picture for me and they went above and beyond. After I proposed they came out with a glass of champagne to celebrate and brought us to another table. They were great not to mention the food and service was excellent. Will definitely be back again.

The service is horrendous. The staff members are extremely rude and condescending. The food was overpriced and not high quality. The menu does not match with what is being served. Specific food instructions, are not taken into consideration. Thank The drinks were mediocre, and took forever to arrive. I have been to many other Scarpetta locations, and the food is fantastic, but not at this location in Newport. I would not recommend coming to this restaurant. There are many other places that have spectacular food in Newport. I would recommend Lucia’s, it has amazing food like no other.

Terrible terrible terrible service. Ordered 5 appetizers at a table of 6 but didn’t have plates or utensils. We Asked 3 times for bread and plates but they never came and the place was not very busy. Drinks took forever to come out. Very expensive to have such bad service. Food was good but would not come back, we do recommend the ink pasta.

Incredible food. Marrow agnolloti was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The service was top notch and the atmosphere on the water was unique and beautiful. The drinks were pricey (overpriced) but decent. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Just OK at best... Party of 12, drinks were very watered down and weak. Waiter gave us a hard time when one of our party members wanted to send his drink back (even tried to explain the alcohol was at the bottom of the drink). Ordered the lobster tagliatelle, very little lobster. Overall very disappointed, wouldn't come back.

Food was good, not great, but good. Certainly not worth the high prices. Unfortunately, that’s where the enjoyment ended. We came with our young kids (so many reviews said family friendly), and first the waiter was not able to put our kids’ orders in first (which every other place we’ve been to has been able to do), instead we had to order everything all at once, which meant our kid got to wait longer than usual for her food. She is generally very well behaved at restaurants, but thanks to being extra hungry by the time her food came, this evening didn’t go so well. The food finally showed up, and the chef is clearly trying for a James Beard award, but I can confidently say, our meal was not award worthy. This place is quite pretentious, without the food or service to back it up. There were eight people who brought the food out to us with a wonderful flair for the dramatic. Of course when we asked for something simple (like a plastic cup for our three year old) it took about 15 minutes (I was beginning to think the chef didn’t allow plastic...). Next we tried to order a dish to go for a member of our family who was not able to join us for dinner. Apparently the chef “doesn’t allow” food to go. So instead they brought the dish to the table, waited for it to get nice and cold, then stuck it in a box for us to bring home. Why they needed this extra step is beyond me, but oh well. At least we were allowed to bring the food home. At least the view was nice. Thankfully there’s plenty of places here with the same view.

Food was good, small portions and a bit overpriced. Setting is beautiful. Service was subpar at best. Waiter was very non attentive. Ignored our empty drink glasses for 30 min. When I flagged him down it took 25 min for a simple bottle of beer to arrive.

Hands down my favorite dinner restaurant in Newport. My husband and I make sure we come here every time we are in town. Everything from the food to ambiance to service has always been flawless. Our favorite things are probably the bread basket and the freshly made pastas (every single one is amazing!). We must warn you though, as tempting as it may be to stuff yourself with the delicious bread, make sure you leave some room for the entrees and desserts! We also had our rehearsal dinner here and couldn't have been happier with our experience. The staff was extremely attentive and made our experience very pleasant from beginning to end. Our families from overseas were also pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the food, which is saying a lot, as most of them were not fans of "Western cuisine". Suffice to say, we highly recommend Scarpetta to everyone.

We went to Newport for business and pleasure, a conference and my mother’s birthday. We stumbled upon Scarpetta online and luckily my mother loves Italian & waterfront dining. Our server was Debra Lee (sp?). She was a huge portion of our amazing experience, professional, pleasant, informative, attentive, and gracious. Food was delicious, well timed, creatively presented. 5 stars in my book.

I'll start with the positive aspects of the experience: the service was good, the drinks were decent, and the ambience was okay if nothing special. I guess the quality of the food itself was passable, too. However, the menu is extremely limited (and nowhere near well-chosen enough to justify such limited choices); the portion sizes are absolutely pathetic (the entree portions were closer to the size normally associated with tapas or kid's meals); the prices are at least twice what is justified by either the quality of the food or the portion size; and when I ordered the Valrhona chocolate cake with chocolate, butterscotch and caramel gelato for dessert, it turned out they no longer serve butterscotch or caramel gelato, so it was a plain chocolate cake (of mediocre quality) with vanilla ice cream (and not even high quality ice cream, at that). I would recommend going almost literally anywhere else instead. Even if you're the sort of person who wants to go to a restaurant because they serve overpriced duck & foie gras ravioli and a baby kale salad with arugula, citrus segment, stone fruit and champagne vinaigrette, you could find better choices than this.

The atmosphere in the dining room was beautiful and sophisticated, the food was exceptional (fresh pasta made in house, extensive wine list), and the service was helpful and attentive - many suggestions were made to us that we don’t regret taking. One (little) complaint: the lights were brought down when we were reading the menu, and though I could still read it in the low light with a bit of strain, my date could not and we noticed a few tables around us having trouble reading and using their phones for light.

Its the epitome of fine dining in gorgeous Newport, RI! After a day spent exploring the Gilded Age mansions and the shoreline, it was time to dine and Scarpetta was perfect for the evening! Meal Quality: I ordered their duck & foie gras ravioli accented in a marsala sauce. It was prepared beautifully and delivered a savory taste at first bite then a semi-sweet finish. It was a true marvel! For dessert, I chose the Creme Fraiche Cheesecake where the mango, pineapple, & tarragon flavors really shined through! Atmosphere & Appearance: It was hip, chic, and overlooked the waters surrounding the island and the large yachts. Service: It was exceptional and a model for all high end restaurants to follow. My husband and I went here for dinner this past Saturday night. We were unable to find a reservation anywhere and Scarpetta was able to squeeze us in last minute. We went to dinner with our 5 month old baby. We were quite nervous, not knowing what to expect and hoping our baby would give us and the rest of the diners, a quiet dinner. It was perfect. We were seated outdoors, right on the water. There are a few steps to take to the outdoor area. One of the waiters stopped what he was doing and assisted my husband with carrying the stroller down the stairs. This was so nice of them! We were happy to see that there was a wide range of people, from young, to old, to babies, to families, and a few even celebrating their bachelorette parties. Dinner was excellent. The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly. There is nothing negative that I could say. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Newport area!

Nice place, food and service were great. Several large groups and a band playing in a nearby bar made it quite noisy. You must valet and the front of this hotel looks a bit like a car lot with the bright lighting and all the cars lined up.

Food was good, atmosphere was good, most of waitstaff was good although a little pompous at times. Our waiter got our order wrong and then tried to cover up his mistake expecting us to be less knowledgeable about food. Prices a little over the top!

Not a bad setting and location however very pricey! $18 for a glass of house wine and $65 for the steak is a bit of an overkill and it wasn’t anything to rave about.
