This Restaurant belongs to the category of Mexican restaurant.
Wow this place is amazing. Delicious food and such a pretty building. All the rooms are different but each five a cozy vibe and if you sit outside it’s a beautiful patio. We got enchiladas which were amazing. Also you have to get the avocado fries!!!!
The atmosphere was way too loud to have a conversation. Menu was very small, and not overly impressive. I ordered enchiladas, but it didn't come with any sides, had to order separate. Same with the typical chips & salsa most places will put on the table complementary.
Food was DELICIOUS. We had the sticky ribs, it was so good, fall off the bone ribs. The atmosphere was so relaxing, great bartender...hidden gem.
Not your average Mexican restaurant. Delicious drinks and friendly service at the back bar.
great atmosphere, good vibes, good drinks. food is unique and surprisingly tasty. little expensive
Great brunch. Generous servings and a wide selection of wonderful food. It is a bit tight moving about the very old house the the restaurant occupies. Limited parking.
The sign should say taco bell. Food has no flavor. And everthing looked the same. Take this off your list
Amazing bar and restaurant. Been coming here for years. Never been dissapointed.
The carne asada was delicious!!
Great atmosphere
What a great spot! I recommend starting off with a spicy cucumber margarita. Share a guacamole with the table and even a few other appetizers. The fish tacos were also hit at my table.
Food was excellent, atmosphere cozy ...but I think our waitress was having an "off" night. We will most definitely visit again on our next trip to Newport.
My fave mex joint in Newport! Laid back atmosphere with quality! Great staff!
A few friends and I decided to go to try some Mexican in Newport. Perro came highly recommended. The environment was fun: small rooms that bring people together, and the service was attentive but the food itself was nothing to write home about. Plus, the price point was high for the quality of the food. On balance, 3 stars.
The staff at Perro was amazing handling our large party, especially the server Olivia. She took great care of us! The margaritas are super yummy too ;)
Very good food and excellent margaritas. Atmosphere is very fun. More authentic Mexican food than some of it's local counterparts. Cucumber margarita is incredible
We were on a food tour of Newport and stopped by. I wish we could have stayed for a meal. We sampled the sticky ribs. Some of the best ribs I have ever tasted.
My favorite place for Mexican food and margaritas
Love the atmosphere, and the food is amazing. I had the shrimp tacos, and my husband had the pork belly. Absolutely delicious.
Awesome! Brunch was delicious and the waitress was nice
This is one of my favorite places to eat in Newport! You wouldn’t think about eating Mexican when you’re in Newport but I do and I have...4 times in 3 years; amazing! Everything is great...EXCEPT AMANDA! She’s honestly the big brown skid mark of a stain on the perfect reputation that Perro Salado holds in my mind. But hey, oh well she thinks she’s cool I bet.
Love this place, great food and service!
Fresh food, Mexican with a twist
Great atmosphere. Lots of option to select from. Friendly staff
Always great service and great atmosphere. Food is tasty and we'll portioned
The best Mexican place I’ve been to in Newport. Additionally the ambiance is amazing. A little noisy but it fits well into the whole.
We had an amazing dinner here on Saturday night. We were with a group of 10 and the fish tacos were delicious, the lamb tacos were just as amazing! You have to try the avocado fries as well. We all had the cilantro jalapeno margaritas and they are really unique and tasty! I would highly recommend you try one. Unfortunately, I left my camera on the table at the end of the night and they closed not long after so I wasn't able to retrieve it. I went back at opening on Sunday and no camera. So disappointed as I know they sat no one at the table after us and I know exactly where I left it. I don't even care so much about the camera as I do about the memory card. When I went in to ask, no one really cared much to even bother to look around for me or give me the time of day! I did leave my name in case it should show up but not sure they would even bother to call. I am hoping I am wrong!
Small disappointing menu and I was placed at an outdoor table where I could not escape the blaring sun. There was a pagoda but it was no help. I was with a group and only a couple of us were forced to endure the blare. I ordered a chicken tinga quesadilla and it was so delicious. Picture is of my husband's cucumber spicy something with Tito's vodka. We would be careful where we sat next time, and sadly, coming here will absolutely be a cheat day for any dieters. We will likely not go back because I am a healthy eater.
YOOOOOO BEST BBQ RIBS...AND IM A COOK...
Great food and atmosphere, I'd highly recommend perro.
Very good
If you like Mexican food this the place to come to.
Homemade chips on nacho night started the night out deliciously, albeit a tiny portion for a nacho plate. We were downhill from there with a tasteless duck entree and a very mediocre taco dish. Sad to say, I will not return. I will miss the atmosphere which is cozy and eclectic!
YUM YUM IN MY TUM TUM
So good! small menu but consistently tasty and fresh in a cozy setting, back bar can even be considered a bit eclectic. If you like Mexican you wont be disappointed. Try the jalepeno cilantro margarita!
great !!
Good times and great food!
Everything was great.
Not my first review of Perro Salado - always 5 stars, one of my favorite places. The most unique atmosphere in Newport, and the least touristy. Sangria is the best anywhere, and guacamole served with tostones and chips is a meal! Service is always great - sit at the back bar if you can.
Best jalapeno margaritas. With cilantro. Go for the upgrade. At the back bar.
Service was good and pleasant for a busy night. The food was very good. Carne Asada perfectly cooked. The only reason i didn't give 5 stars is the dish did not come with rice and beans so a bit over priced
Visiting from out of town and a high school friend wanted to take me to a local place he had heard many good things about. It was a bit of a wait, but was expected due to it being so well reviewed by the locals. We grabbed a drink at the bar and paid while waiting for our table, once sat our sever came out to the padio to great us and grab our food orders since we had already gotten our drinks at the bar... and that was the last we seen of her till about 25-30min later as we were walking out. We were sitting with empty drinks for quite some time and the table next to us that was sat no less then 10 min after us had got there drinks, a second drink, and a fried appetizer while we sat there with no drinks and waiting on chips and salsa. I tried several times to get our servers attention and feel the last time I tried she seen me and was ignoring me, and if not she was not fit to be in customer service. This is my first google review but honestly never had such poor service. Very disappointed. However we did go to a place immediately after called " Poor judgment " and within 10 minutes of being there two managers and the bartender came over and made sure we knew the specials and ready to take our orders... we were taken by surprise after the last place and wasn't expecting to be quizzed on what we wanted so quickly, but each one was super nice and more then happy to point out some of the favorites and was an extremely good experience with the staff and amazing food!
Food and blood orange margaritas were awesome! Band at night!
Didn't think a summer Wednesday night could be so much fun. We ended our night at Perro Salado. Although google maps says this place closes at 9:30, that's the just the restaurant. The bar and patio which has amazing live music (The Z boys) keeps the place alive and drinks flowing. Lot of locals at this joint.
Pretty average Mexican restaurant. Service was okay. Had to request a table a few times. Tortilla for the burrito wasn't strong enough, made for a pretty mushy burrito. Tacos were better. Outside area needs a little love. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless you are desperate.
A special Sunday brunch experience. Outside patio, shaded and in the breeze, along with Watermelon margaritas and strawberry gin shrub... and the most spectacular Lobster Benedict. Friendly and attentive service. Thank you for rounding off a wonderful Newport weekend.
Excellent Brunch
Went as part of a food tour and we all had the sticky rib appetizer which was great. Definitely going back for a real meal!
Lobster Quesadillas woah
Pictures speak greater than words! Amazing foods.
Amazing in every way
Very good food, cool atmosphere, try the short rib enchiladas. High quality and reasonable. They will not split up checks, which is super frustrating when traveling on business. Our group in town for over a month can't even go here for this silly reason. Doesn't seem like great business decision but hey, it seems to be generally very busy so perhaps they hust don't need the business traveler.
Always amazing. If you are looking for some of the best Mexican food in word island then head here. The pictures of Margarita are delicious and never skip on their daily special. It's a little outside of downtown Newport so sometimes it's easier to get in .
Best margarita on this planet. The outdoor seating adds to the experience.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Reasonable prices as well. We will return soon.
The fish tacos and the blood orange margaritas are top notch! The serving sizes of guac are surprisingly large and delicious!
Great food, harried staff. Busy night with no parking close by meant we were 10 mins late for 6:30pm reservation. Made to feel as though we had been lucky to get reservation in the first place, then when late, as though we had committed an extreme social faux pas. Advised next reservation was at 8:15, I said we would be sure to be off the table by then. We were on the clock! Ladies at table behind us felt the same! We ordered quickly, received everything in great time. Food always great, margaritas even better. Were told we were not offered the restaurant week menu because we were late & might not be finished in time. With apps + dinner + dessert, we were finished with half hour to spare. One of us was slower to finish dinner (with more than 40 minutes to spare), 5 different girls asked if they could take her plate away before she was finished. they were probably just being great servers, but coupled with the attitude downstairs, made us feel unwelcome. Were then asked asked whether we would like anything else before we left? With a half hour to spare! Not, "would you like coffee or dessert." The ladies downstairs definitely had us on a tight schedule! If I treated my clients like that, I would be fired. Don't join restaurant week if you can't take the rush. Or don't take the reservation in the first place! Or try to remember that your customers don't expect you to be unpleasant, no matter what is going on in your world. Rudeness is just not ok. And by the way, even though I have a NC telephone number, I am a local.
The best Mexican food my husband & I have found! Michael said the Fish Tacos were the most amazing he has ever had.
Great service and food as always. Especially enjoy grilled corn this time of year.
What a refreshing and wonderful treat after the horrible experience at Saltwater. The atmosphere is fun and casual, perfect for their delicious margaritas and tasty Mexican fare. Definitely recommended!
Awesome flavors and nice staff. Thanks for the good time!
This is my go to fire Mexican food in Newport. The sticky ribs are off of this world. The brunch is also fantastic and not your standard basic brunch
Great restaurant with awesome food. Small and intimate but was able toaccomodate our group of 12 in the private room upstairs with advanced notice.
Authentic fresh Mexican
The menu is not extensive; not much here for vegan/gluten-free dining. My asparagus and mushroom tacos were somewhat bland, and the side of black beans was soupy. My daughter's veggie enchiladas were good, and the server was friendly. The location and decor are very nice. They do add a 1% fee to all checks for kitchen staff, something I haven't encountered before. May be worth a try if you're a Mexican food fan.
Always a winner
Great ribs and margaritas!
Very interesting atmosphere in an historic house. This is a taqueria with some twists. Because the house is 300 years old each dining room is small and cozy which makes for nice dining experience.
Incredible Mexican fenominal service
Kinda rude service. Lukewarm food that was sort of flavorful but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere was busy and we were relegated to a table near the kitchen.
I was in Newport on vacation and a local recommended this place. It was busy but the service was amazing and quick. The food was absolutely delicious. I recommend the lobster quesadillas & the sticky pork ribs. I visit Newport once a year and this place will be a staple for my future visits
My daughter and I went to this place in Newpor Beach Rhode Island she found this place when she went and visited Salve Regina great atmosphere food was absolutely incredible if you're going just to give you a heads up they don't open till 5 at night great decor has plenty of seating outside was just a really great time can't think my little turtle enough for showing me this place
Always a great experience at Perro Salado......
Excellent food and fantastic selection of specials. My wife and I enjoyed the quaint atmosphere and location to the other Newport attractions.
Stopped in for RI Food Fights(Taco Mania) The Food was really good!
Best Mexican I've ever had. Not greasy or heavy. Awesome guacamole as well!
Always a summertime favorite. I will come here with any out of towners and sit and enjoy the weather and eat some fresh food and share a pint or two with them. One of my favorite spots in Newport.
Main meal was fine. My drink came out after the maib food and we had these pretty awful chips that came with our appetizer
Love their food, hate being obligated to pay a tip for the kitchen workers. Raise the price of the food, no one will complain if you charge an extra dollar for some of your dishes.
This is the best restaurant in Newport!! The sticky ribs are to die for! The drinks are fabulous. We have never had a meal that we didn't like. The wait staff is excellent. The atmosphere is funky in a good way. Their brunch is superb.
I love this place. The food was awesome!
Service was perfect but the enchilladas were like lasagne. Baked with a lot if cheese and less flavour in an oven form. All like a pudding. We waited about 1 hour for the ordered meals. I was very disappointed. It could be that it was from a food company like tricatel ( see movie from luis de funes)
Great food great atmosphere. What more could you want!
Let me tell you something about this little gem of a Mexican restaurant. The outside is unassuming but if you take the time to give this place a try you may come away very satisfied. I tried the lobster quesadilla and I almost had to slap my grandma it was so good. I mean I closed my eyes and all of a sudden I found myself on the beach in Cancun with a mariachi band playing the macarena. The lobster meat was generous and the fresco queso topped this dish off perfectly. Now some of the other guests got the enchiladas and did comment that they were lacking enough sauce/flavor. This went for a toco dish as well. For this I am taking off a star. So if you are in the area and want a party in your mouth, I suggest you get the lobster quesadilla. You won't be disappointed.
Fuh. I'm sure this place has things it does right, but Mexican cuisine is not one of them. My taco literally tasted like nothing; I'm not sure how it's possible, but it was utterly flavorless. Our margaritas were 90% sour mix as well. The staff was great, but the food left absolutely everything to be desired.
Love this place, atmoshphere, food, customer service..yummy avacado fries, lobster quiessadia
This is our favorite place for a Mexican fix in Newport!! Great margaritas, the sticky pork ribs are incredible, and the dinner portions are generous.
Had Freshely cheesecake, awesome flavor and taste
"Sticky Ribs" & "Spicy Cucumber Margarita" are everything to me! EVERYTHING!!!
I love the food here. Great Mexican food with some culinary inspiration, and I want more.
A great atmosphere and amazing food. So much fun and worth it. A hidden gem in Newport.
Love the food, drinks and atmosphere
I had their "something" Benny special for brunch today. It was fantastic! One of my companions had food envy over it, when comparing to her choice of Huevos Rancheros. I would highly recommend this place based on my one experience. The other two's meals were good too!
Yummy food tasty drinks sweet atmosphere. And! Reasonable bill at the end of the meal. Always a pleasant surprise when traveling!
Jalepeno cilantro margaritas
We own a house in town...attempted to visit often but the service is horrible. Get the run around everytime but once. The 1 time we got drinks and food, it was was marginal at best. Don't waste your time. Hundred better places to visit.
If you're a tequila or mezcal aficionado, this is the restaurant for you. Margaritas are on point. Food is excellent too.
Fabulous meal. Hangar Steak was gorgeous to look at and delicious as well. Lovely convivial atmosphere and great service. Unpresupposing facade. Loved it.
Great Mexican food, devwlopedenu and flavors, great drink selection.
Some of the worse Mexican food I’ve ever had. Went to this restaurant after several people recommended it. I honestly have no idea what the appeal is outside of the drinks. Though the wait staff is super friendly they’re not the most efficient, a bit slow in greeting but maybe they were just busy the night I was there however that does not make up for the food. The food is sub par at best. It is SUPER Americanized, everything came lukewarm, and the quality of products were lackluster... I will umost likely never go back and do not recommend.
Best restaurant in Newport. Sticky Ribs are the best.
Great food, creative menu but the service was poor.
Amazing service, ambiance and food! :)
BEST margaritas in Newport. Great food! Sweet outdoor patio and several quaint dining rooms. 2 bars-front and back.
Michele, the bartender was excellent. She was very friendly. She made sure everyone was being taken care of. Michele talk to everyone at the bar like people not just paying customers.
I asked for tajin on the rim of my beer (which TOTALLY IS a Mexican thing) and the waitress said they didn't have any tajin. We got a plate of chips. AND THEY HAD TAJIN ALL OVER THEMSELVES. (the chips I mean) ambiance was nice tho.
Delicious food and the BEST margaritas in Newport and Aquidneck Island. The food I had was the perfect taste and spicy enough for my tastebuds. I will definitely be back often.
Went here multiple times because the food is good, but after my experience I am not so sure it is a clean place. My friends and I were having dinner, and in the middle of eating our food we saw a MOUSE strolling throughout the dining room. The mouse came out of a hole and made 5 rounds around the table in front of us. When we told the manager, her response to the situation was “Oh great! This is the perfect way for my Thursday night to be like”. She did not apologize, or seem embarassed on behalf of the restaurant. She took our drinks off the tab and that was it. She was very rude, and I still cannot believe that I saw a mouse while eating. The manager tried to make up excuses and seemed indifferent to the situation. I do not recommend this place.
I loved this little Mexican Restaurant. Delicious food... Music was great....fun and full of people
Appetizers and drinks better than entrees
Small, cozy, great atmosphere. Perfect off the beaten path Newport gem
Chips, salsa and guacamole, STICKY RIBS FOR DAYS, and lobster quesadilla with the yummy pickled red onions! So good! Oh, spicy cucumber margarita and blood orange margarita are delish!
A little pricey, but the food is definitely a class apart from the usual Mexican fares
Disappointed visit due to surly waitress. Ribs used to melt in mouth but not now. Won't go back.
Very nice place authentic Mexican food in New England. Friendly staff and has a great vibe. Can accommodate large groups and Yacht crew dinners
Sticky ribs? Avocado fries? Blood orange margaritas? Sign me up! Best in town!
I’ve been here a few times and have mixed feelings. I want to love it, the interior is so unique and awesome. The food is very average. I wish they gave you toppings with the tacos. The service could be better, I sat at the bar last night and watched the bar tender sit on his phone and flirt with another waitress while we waited an hour for our average toppingless tacos with empty drinks, that he forgot to ring-in. Other experiences there have been better but after last night I won’t be returning.
Great Mexican food. Sitting is a bit tight but don't let that stop you.
Love the food . pregnant bar waitress rude.
The food, drinks, service and atmosphere are fantastic!
Food was very unique and delicious. Have to try the fried avocados! Atmosphere was fun and cute as it’s an old house, but very loud. Probably not family friendly.
The avocado fries and so good.... but not worth the food poisoning
Super friendly staff fast service great place and even better food
We've had both brunch and dinner, and of course...drinks. The staff has been incredibly accommodating and attentive. The food and drinks would be excellent in any setting. But this is particularly true in Newport where something funky like this can be hard to find. This will be our "go to" dining every time we visit Newport.
I could eat their avocado fries and drink their jalapeno margaritas daily.
Great spot for winter dinner. Awesome porch for summer.
I would go back. While I'm not super inspired to write about specifics I remember a few things distinctly. It is crowded. Tables are jammed together to the point that a tipsy woman knocked over one of our water glasses with her purse. The …
1% fee added to all checks. Their reason takes the entire back page of the menu to write out. Charge what your food costs to produce and serve and pay your staff enough to keep working for you, please. Reply when you change this policy, I'd be delighted to leave a 5 star for the great food.
Geralyn and Lauren are gems. Olivia couldn’t be more attentive. Food is amazing especially brunch. Try French fried avocado to die for! Of course the best margaritas. Don’t miss this amazing experience.
Avocado fries and spicy cilantro margarita are a great combination!
The delicata squash, avocado fries, and cilantro lime soda are excellent!
Great margaritas and good food
The brunch here is amazing and the service is always good. Their cocktails are strong and tasty
Have been back several times with my wife and we always love it!
Super cool atmosphere...the Captain's room has a great vibe and is very comfortable. The avo fries were awesome! Carne Asada was cooked perfectly and all the other entree's had raves.
Duck tamales and cilantro/lime soda. Really blew my mind there. Great place.
Not really authentic Mexican, but really good food. The pork belly was so tender and great favor. Wanted to try the guacamole but not paying $14 for that. Overall a great restaurant in Newport.
Fast, friendly service in an amazing 200+ yr old house. The food was fantastic and the prices were reasonable! Would eat here all the time if I lived in Newport.
Yummy and huge portions.
Avocado fries are to die for
Food is good. Would like to see a bigger menu
Food here was amazing and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was fun, and different. I recomend this to all!
Highly recommend Sunday Brunch
The margaritas are fantastic! We had chipotle shrimp & sticky ribs for app, both outstanding....then lamb fajitas which were great and OMG the lobster quesadilla!!! Can I eat this everyday!?! Lots of meat and super delicious!! Waitress was sweet & attentive!! Well done!
Perro Salado is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. The cocktails are fantastic and the food is authentic and mouth watering. The tamarind-rubbed and braised short ribs enchiladas from the make-your-own taqueria portion of the menu were phenomenally on point. The restaurant resides in a converted original Newport house, so the dining is spread through different rooms with unique vibes. My personal favorite space is the back bar.
Best Mexican food in the area!
Not worth the money i paid food doesnt taste good , small portion also
I was looking forward to this meal for months and ended up being kind of underwhelmed. It may have been because we were there for St. Patrick's Day weekend, so they had a scaled-down menu and themed options, but I was just not super satisfied. The portions were small and the prices were high. The guac was seasoned ~interestingly~, there were a few flavors in there I couldn't decide whether I liked or not. The service was great, though, and the atmosphere was very cute and cozy. I really wanted to be a huge fan of this place. Hopefully it was just our timing. I'd like to give this place another chance when I'm back in town again.
My dish that i usually get was half the size. Small portion i was disappointed left hungry
This place has a wonderful concise menu. They do about 30 dishes really well, without an everything-and-the-kitchen-sink menu. Sticky ribs are not to be missed! Margaritas are also great, coming in 4 or 5 variations. Call ahead on weekend nights because this place will be busy.
Awesome food! Historical setting for a restaurant. Highly recommend!
One of my favorites in Newport. Tons of fresh items to choose from
Love the food here
Smallish menu but never disappointing. Try the pan seared fish tacos over the battered ones. You won't be disappointed. The ribs are always a good pick and many people swear by the cucumber margaritas
I love the food and atmosphere of this restaurant. Their avacado fries are amazing and they have a jalapeño drink that will blow your mind. Definitely going back again soon!
Bit fancy Mexican restaurant. The food was nice but not exceptional. Good beer selection too..
Great food
Best margaritas I've ever had!
