This is easily the best Japanese and Korean food in town. Matt was our server and he was both attentive and polite. All of their soups are scratch-made in house, and we particularly enjoyed the ginger tea with dinner. We had some Korean food the first night and liked it so much we returned the next night to try out their sushi. Having experienced sushi from some of the most notable sushi chefs in Japan, this is the closest I’ve had anywhere in the states, (honestly I think I like Sea Shai’s sashimi even better!) fresh, precisely prepared, and with killer service. The Chef’s passion is evident in his food. We will be back and frequently!

The people who run this restaurant take great pride in their service, preparation, the quality of the ingredients, the freshness of the seafood besides being amazing people who love to laugh and tell great stories - and listen to yours! The place is wonderfully decorated and gives a sense of serene refinement. I ordered Hae du bap which is not on the menu, but it is a Korean dish they know well. They did not hesitate to prepare it and it was the best I have ever had. The prices are reasonably and you will not be disappointed.

We had the most delicious Dim Sum ever! It was every bit as good as NYC. The only thing missing was the carts. The owner's sister Winnie, is attentive, charming and offers the best recommendations ever. I could eat there every day!

Their "Bento box" lunches are simply amazing, and cost about $10. Ironically, this identical item is sold at dinner, for twice the price! My advice? Stick to lunch time..!

This was the best Korean restaurant I have ever eaten at. The wait staff was very attentive. The food was great. I loved that they brought us complimentary miso soup and three different condiment bowls which were refilled without asking before the entrees were delivered. If you want the real deal, go to New Sea Shai Restaurant, best Asian restaurant in the area.

If you like Sushi, this is the place to eat in Newport... I'd argue most of New England too. I had Sushi in Manhattan, New York and Boston, and those major cities didn't even come close to the quality of this sushi. I've lived in Japan for a few years and this is one of a few state-side sushi restaurants that compares to Japan. The fish is cut fresh every day and you can taste the freshness. They also give very generous slices of fish too. In fact, I almost gave it 4-stars because the sushi slices are too big. Sea Shai Restaurant also serve Korean food and what I've had so far follows the same freshness as the sushi. I go for the sushi, so I can't comment too much on the Korean dishes.

I've been searching for a good korean/japanese restaurant in RI and I think Sea Shai is one of the best! Their Salmon teriyaki bento is just amazing: crispy on the outside with the best teriyaki sauce coating. Their bimbimbap is great; always go for the dol-sot (hot stone), the veggies with the beef/pork is the perfect combo! Favorite appertizer is negimaki: scallion rolled in thin sliced beef, grilled, and smothered in that amazing teriyaki sauce. If you want an amazing underrated restaurant, you need to give Sea Shai a try!

I am 64 years old and been to many restaurants but this was the worst experience I have ever had. On July 12, 2012 I had three people in our my party. The service was extremely slow. It took about 45 minutes to be served and then only one received their food, 20 minutes later the rest of my party received their food. I asked the server for no soy sauce on my dish and it arrived loaded with soy sauce. The food was absolutely the worst I have ever had. I have never written a review before about a restaurant but need to get the word out to all to skip this restaurant. It may be under new management but they need to close down and start over.

Nice, quiet restaurant with lovely servers. Unfortunately, the avocado crunch salad lacked any crunch, balance, and excitement, and the pajeon was underfried and doughy, lacking scallions. Overall disappointing flavors.
