REVIEWS OF El Rancho Grande IN Rhode Island

Khurram Faizan

Amazing food! Be prepared to wait since it's very popular and they don't take reservations but it's worth it!

Rebecca Shannon

Delicious! Cute lil spot. We came at 9 so almost til closing, and we ordered a lot, so obviously it took us long to get our food BUT our margaritas (mango & coconut/coconut was better) were delicious & our food (other than the rice for both dishes) was delicious & they don't rush you out! 10/10 recommend!

Chris Benson

The best in Rhode island, and possibly the whole country!

Jen Ecklund

I loved how friendly they were there! They make you feel welcome, unlike most other restaurants where they just want your money. It took a half hour to get our tacos, but it was busy. I'll have to go back when it isn't so busy. I liked their menu, as it had a good amount of options!

Ariel Lizarda

My wife and I had cravings for Mexican food last night and we came across El Rancho Grande with great reviews. The trip was well worth it. Their cebiche is to die for with the perfect margarita to wash it down! Maria, the owner was on site and visited each table to welcome everyone. She was awesome! I would recommend you visit this place if you haven't been.

Erika Peguero

Food is awesome there!! Absolutely love it. Just always so pack and sometimes a wait and usually one waiter working the floor and that's not the problem. But never receive the same attention that some do from the owner. I feel that you should do your rounds with everyone and at every table. And been going there for years now and gone couple of times of week for many weeks, and never a hello. And at times seen given to certain people things or samples and never myself or friends that gone becuase of my recommendation many times, and haven't received the same gesture or hospitality.

Junior Lopez

Very nice Mexican restaurant.. great staff and service and awesome food .. Only down side sometimes a long wait time to eat ..

Nancy Saccoccio

I'm giving EL Rancho Grande a 5***** rating because I love the authenticity of the Mexican food and drinks. Because of its popularity there may be a wait at certain times. But it's worth it!

Thiago V

Really great Mexican food. Live their tacos and normally try something different every visit. Staff is very friendly. Place is small and can get swarmed during busy hours, so I suggest you get there earlier. Doesn't disappoint.

NE Buck

No matter what they say, there is a dearth of good Mexican food in New England. This place is good, like Southern California good. It gets really packed, because it is that good. Every employee we encountered was pleasant and they were all …

Corey LaFlamme

If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, look no further!!! This place is family owned and operated and everyone is very friendly. Chef Maria will often come out and visit with guests and conversate. I would recommend El Rancho Grande to anybody looking for for fresh food with fresh ingredients.

Carol Johnson

Food is delicious!

Emily Williams

Don’t know how this place doesn’t have 5 stars. The service is amazing, fast, and friendly and the food never disappoints. The owner comes out and makes sure everyone is having a great time and the bartenders don’t disappoint either. Margaritas are to die for! Trio enchiladas are to die for! Well worth a wait if there is one.

Carlos Tejeda

Nice little place, but had to wait to long for the food and the place wasn't even full. Good drinks

John Brown

Fantastic mexican food , the real thing but upscale !! A+++

This place is absolutely wonderful. Wait staff is super friendly and good was great! Got the super burrito - highly recommend. Also recommend coming during non-peak hours because this place fills up. Get a Pacífico

Derek Michael Gray

The best....hands down!

Louisa Anne

Great home cooked Mexican options that will please everyone. Extensive menu that will please picky eaters and excite the more adventurous. Everything I've tried there has been great, but some menu items can be quite heavy and fried. Plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options await you.

Matthew Arruda

Always delicious and service is pretty fast.

Nick Wilson

Mezcal & mole - this is what dreams are made of b

Jason Rego

Great Mexican food at great prices.

Liz Hunter

Amazing Mexican food, can't wait to go back and try more!

Alison O'Donnell

Fresh authentic Mexican. Our server was very friendly but had far too many tables to handle by herself at lunch hour. This could have been 5 stars.

cynthia smith

Superb food and congenial staff and patrons. Very nice atmousphere and the food is always prepared in a very authentic manner. Always look forward to my next visit!

Michael Skazinski

The best! Small place, so be prepared to wait. Service can be a little slow but it is worth it. Authentic food and the margaritas are superb. I recommend the tamales or a torta.

jenn j

Delicious and our server was great.

Lorelei Kung

Authentic and people are nice here.

Ed Johnson

This is one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants around here. The food is awesome and be sure to try some of their unique drink selections. This is a cozy family run place, great atmosphere. Try it you'll love this place.

Max B

Good Mexican food. It's a popular place and there's usually a wait. The service is really good. Sometimes the head chef comes out and talks to the diners during dinner. She's really nice and wants to make sure everyone's dish is delicious.

Seth Dube

Extremely good mexican food with decent prices. Small and cute restaurant thats right on the corner of a street.

Anonymous Unknown

I had read about it in the Rhode Island magazine cheap eats issue that just came out. And went there for brunch with a friend. Everything was fresh everything was tasty, the staff was lovely, it's a fantastic little spot that I would never have found otherwise. You should definitely go there and try it out

Regina Thompson

Food was barely warm.

Vin Vel

food good service very slow

Jonathan M

Authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price! I am Mexican so I know what authentic Mexican food should taste like. I ordered "asada hurache" which is a typical Mexican dish from Central México and it was delicious! Very close to what I would get back at home. My girlfriend ordered "bistec ranchero" and it was great too. I also had a margarita with no surprises. It was good. To finish our great time there, we also ordered tres leeches for dessert. That one wasn't as good. It needed more milk. I enjoyed my time there. I would definely come back. A suggestion for the owner: please keep the high chairs and booster seats anywhere else instead of the bathroom. Parents (we) want our babies to have a germ free seats.

Khurram Hassan

amazingly authentic Mexican food. A friend of ours took us there as a goodbye dinner and we were so impressed. The staff were so friendly and helpful with advice on what to get. The portions are pretty generous so we ended up with lots of food to take home. The quality is exceptional. I recommend dope or solo pork soup. Elsa recommend any of the tacos they are fantastic. And the empanadas are just so delicate and scrumptious and moist. On the weekends the wait is really long you might be out there for an hour or more the weekdays are not too bad. Very popular for a very good reason and great spot for friends and family to get together.

Larry David

Authentic and delicious. Always has a crowd

Jennifer Gilo

Best Mexican food in Rhode Island! I travel from San Diego and it is the first place I eat at. BEYOND AMAZING!

Rik Berghorn

Great food. Home made. Highly recommended.

Daniel Ortiz

Service was way below average for such a popular place. The food was amazing. Got the pork belly tacos. One of the best tacos I've had. My daughter got enchiladas that are tailored for kids. She hates trying to new things. She really enjoyed it. It's small and intimate. I would highly reccomend.

Mark M.

Very authentic mexican food. Reasonable priced, friendly staff and a clean environment. I will definitely be coming back.

Jegan Mohan

Pretty good Mexican restaurant, which caught me by surprise. I had not much expectations when I entered this place, but the menu and quality of food won me over. It is a bit on the pricier side when compared to similar mexican restaurant, …

anonymous guy

Definitely my number one spot in Providence for Mexican or TexMex style food. Favorites are the Chimichanga with chicken and the chipotle crema sauce and an order of the Chile Relleno. That's two entrees but fantastic combination and ends up being two meals worth of food so when I'm still craving it the next day I'm covered

Ed Giachelli

Good food, friendly servers, just a slow process. You spend more time waiting than eating.

Vincent Orcel

First time there tonight and it was absolutely amazing. Super authentic, delicious food and drinks. The owner and his wife were awesome and super friendly. I can’t wait to go back again!!! Enjoyed Everything from the coconut margaritas, quesadillas, enchiladas, to the amazing flan!!

Daisy Flores

Really Good Food! I gave this place 2 visits to give a proper review. The first time the service was great and the girl was nice. The second time my family and I had a Male server, he wasnt too friendly, very serious. I also notice she provided every table complimentary bottle of water but he didnt do that for us. It's just tap water but all customers show be treated the same way. Overall I go there for the food! If you looking for a sit down authentic Mexican restaurant...come here! Dont try the Tamales, they are small and not fresh. I can tell mine was microwaved.

Heather Jones

Best Mexican food yet

Mitchell Zahn

Great food. Busy place.

Lo más autentico en Providence! El Rancho Grande is a bubbly little spot in Olneyville. My friend and I went on Cinco de Mayo and expected a large crowd, and indeed there was. We waited an hour, but the staf was so attentive and offered us drinks from the bar. We only stayed because the smell of the food was absolutely intoxicating. This has to be some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. We had chimichangas and enjoyed the complimentary chips with guacamole. We didn't realize the chimichangas would come with rice and refried beans. So we were FULL! The staff were all so kind and attentive. It was an amazing experience. I am definitely going again, and much earlier so I can give my food some time to digest and enjoy some of their famous margaritas!

Catherine Streich

Best Mexican food in Prov! It fills up fast so go at off times. The queso fundido is incredible

Gennady Gelman

good atmosphere. good drinks. friendly staff. we had the nachos con todos - nicely layered, gooey cheese, and super burrito - saved it for 2 meals, it's huge.

Becka Carroll

Incredible authentic Mexican food in a homey atmosphere. There are only a few tables so there’s usually a line to be seated but the wait is definitely worth it!

Diane Velasquez

The food was delicious although it took a while to receive my food... the waitresses were very nice and adorable.

Kim Frame

Stopped in for RI Food Fights. The food was delicious and the waitress was great.

al leclaire

Excellent food and wonderful small atmosphere.

Laura Yadira Hernandez

Love this places

Isaac Villarreal

Location is very small. Came in and had to wait outside for a table to be open. There was no host or anyone to take our name to be seated or know the order we arrived. We waited about 30-45 min to get a table. The service was very good once we had a seat. The servers were very friendly and accommodating. Once we ordered our food, it took about another 30-45 min to get all of our food. The food was very good and filling. Very authentic Mexican food for sure. Overall the food was delicious, but the wait time to be seated and get our food to us was very dissapointing. This seems like a popular place to eat and always busy. They need to work on someone to assist those who wait and getting the food out in a timely manner. So there is not that much wait time for others to be seated. If you have a lot of time to spend and get good food this is the place. Otherwise try another place.

Micah Ellinger

A gem of the neighborhood! Incredible food and drinks, and kind and passionate employees and owners!

Vanessa

Food was great but the portions! Wow. Not sure if it was a mistake because the order went through Postmates but I ordered two carne asada plates and a kids meal and my sons meal had more rice than the two asada plates! It wasn't even worth what I paid (a little over $50)

Jillian DiMaio

Fantastic, authentic Mexican food, with even better service. Having lived in South Texas for several years, this was the first place that we have found back east that has tacos worthy of the title. Absolutely recommend.

Michael Goodwin

Excellent Mexican. Coming from New Mexico it's hard to find in New England, but find it we have. Fantastic, homemade chips, great staff and delicious ingredients. It's as close to the real thing as I've found up here. Highly recommend them.

Jessica Weber

Parking was difficult and it was very busy so waited a little bit for a table. But it was well worth the wait. Food was excellent! The signature Tamale was amazing and Huge! Service was quick and helpful.

Cristian Reyes vazquez

I give it that rating because I orderd a borito and I got a nasty looking borito with souse and old looking meat and the souse looked like throw-up

Gonzalo Zapata

Small place with wonderful food and drinks. Can't go wrong with anything in the menu

Ulises A

Was so happy we ended up coming here. Some of the best tacos we ever had and the drinks were delicious. Very large selection of specialty tequilas. The prices were very affordable, especially considering how great everything tasted. I wish …

Sheely Crawford-Feasel

Best restaurant in all of Providence. Chef Maria is a master in the kitchen and floating around the dining room giving cheek kisses to her guests. Always an excellent experience, dine in or take out. PLUS! The drinks!!!! The tequila and mezcal selection cannot be beat. Their house margarita is amazing.

Teresa Cap

I took my family here yesterday, it was my 2 daughters birthday. One of the reasons i chose this place was the good reviews. I will not be going back to this place. I realize it was busy, but honestly waiting 1 hour for our food, that first of us came to us wrong, and having it cold is unacceptable. I kept being told the kitchen is backed up. I have worked in restaurants far bigger and busier than this one for 20 years and NEVER EVER did a customer have to wait this long for cold food. It was very disappointing when you are sitting there and seeing tables that sat down far after you get their food first and so many to go orders going out the door for people that came after us. Take care of your dining room first. I expressed twice my disappointment and told them it was my first time, yet they gave me nothing to compensate my disappointment. Made my daughter's birthday very un-enjoyable and to boot I spent $100 on very late, messed up order, cold food.

Melissa smith

Amazing food. Taquitos were hand rolled. Corn shrimp taco had a sweet flavor, the carnitas were a little dry but the adobada and pork belly were great. And margaritas were strong but very tasty. Would eat here every day if it was closer. Staff was very friendly.

John Meara

I almost don't want to review so others don't come. Some of the best Mexican food in the state. Very reasonable prices. Only issues are waiting and being seated. It's very tight inside and there is often a crowd.

Caitlin Conger

A pretty cheap meal. I got the carne asada tacos and they had a lot of meat in them for $2 a piece. It was a little bland however. Chips were good and drinks were strong though (we got the margarita pitcher)

Fabiola Almazan Olivar

Everything that I have tried is good. I recommend the nachos, fried tacos, quesadillas, pozole and the tres leches cake. Prices are fair. There is always a 20-40 min wait but definitely worth it

Stephen Wallace

I LOVE

Bianca Ito Gandini

The food tastes like homemade and is delicious! The place is small which makes it feel like even more of a family business. The owner came to the table to greet us and ask whether we liked it, very nice.

Camille M

Hands down the best Mexican food in RI. Cute little restaurant that's always busy due to the awesomeness of their food, drinks, and service. The tacos are mind blowingly great. Maria is truly a gifted chef/owner. The mixologist is always making delicious drinks. It's worth the wait, trust me.

Chris Noel

Excellent food. 4 stars since parking is difficult and place is small so there is always a wait to be seated.

John V. Gibbons III

Always amazing food. Great atmosphere and place.

Katherine Ahlquist

We arrived at the restaurant just before 6 on a Friday night. What lucky timing! We got the last table. The place was hopping, and we found out why. The food was everything we had hoped, Delicious and plentiful! Sometimes the din from the diners was on the loud side, but don't let that or the line at the door deter you. The food is worth the wait.

Michael Sorensen

IMHO best Mexican restaurant in Rhode Island.

Marcel Laporte

Went when it wasn't too busy on a Friday afternoon around 230 pm. Pretty much ignored standing there at the door. The bar had available seats but no one bothered to clean it. Went for a table. They only had 2 beer selections said they ran out. Ordered food, no chips and salsa. Asked waitress for them she said oh we ran out of salsa. How do you run out of salsa early on a Friday afternoon? Waitstaff not too iinterested in how everything is. Food good but no excuse for running out of stuff we were not in Mexico.

James Buck

Terrific food, great service. Best Mexican food I have had since moving to the East Coast from Southern California.

lester Castro

Food is awesome, mezcal is on point. Friendly warm service. Clean atmosphere.

Angel Cordero

great food

Hugo Sainz

Find new menu on Mexican food little different from others restaurants. This is why I like it, and the food delicious

Teddy Trocki-Ryba

I love it

David Barrett

Great small Mexican restaurant. Wonderful food, homey setting

Felix Flores

Great food and service

García Garcia

Awful place smells like a restroom when you walk in.

Nick Perez

Not what i expected the waiter and waitress were nice bar tender was rude and does not know how to properly make "authentic" drinks. The food was very bland as if it were made to please just the white man. Maybe it was just a bad day for them but not sure if ill go back.

Aaron Lipczynski

Very long wait on a Saturday evening...but COMPLETELY WORTH IT!

Ricardo Rangel

As a Mexican American living in RI our choices for good Mexican restaurants are very slim. This place had Good reviews and I was excited to try it out. The food was not bad the margaritas were very good but the service was terrible. There’s only two waitresses working and there’s only about 10 tables in the whole place. It took almost 30 minutes to get my food. There were people waiting at the front door to be seated/waiting for a table and the waitresses past them numerous times without even acknowledging them. I definitely won’t be back!

Oscar Martinez

Best tamales and enchiladas in RI! Plan ahead and be prepared for wait outside...popular place for best Mexican food in RI!

Aurora Borealis

My boyfriend and I had to wait until our food came to get any water while I watched every other table that came after us get all of their drinks. Never got the coke or guacamole I ordered. None of the waitresses here have asked us if we need anything or how our food is. I hope your staff isn't bitter when they get poor tips for their awful service. Here's a photo of my waitress doing nothing.

D A

Great authentic Mexican food with laidback atmosphere

Gideon Skerry

Awesome food. Awesome service. 100% recomend

Matt Klein

This place makes me want to be a food critic so I can try everything! I can’t say a bad thing about this place. From Mom in the kitchen taking her time to come out and ask customers how they are enjoying their meal to the Mole enchiladas. This place brings paradise to your palate. This food makes you wish you were a better person by slapping your senses and your taste buds silly! I would eat here everyday if I lived closer and could afford to eat out everyday!! The pork belly tacos will change your life!

Rich De Almeida

Always love this place. It’s truly authentic Mexican food that can be difficult to find. Unfortunately they were out of Barbecoa so better to get the earlier than later.

Jeff St Germain

Best Mexican food around. Maria is an amazing hostess.

RAYMER DEJESUS

Fast service, excellent traditional mexican food, i love the taco playa and la tostada , Need to come back soon!

Greg Serpa

Absolutely delicious food. I want to eat here every day.

JJ Buck

Best Mexican restaurant. Maria is the best chef

Thom Masse

Very well done. Babacoa was delicious and everyone else was very happy with the service, food, drinks and price! Again, thank you for your excellent flavors.

Evan Morrill

amazing service and even better food! Always ask them for suggestions. You might try something you haven't before and you won't regret it.

Arnaldy Medina

Understaffed, server forgot several things.

Ricky Alexander

We spent several years in Texas on the Mexico border and these are by far the closest we’ve come to authentic tacos. Maybe they are even better. The cocktails are top notch, as well. Very friendly, welcoming staff. Can’t wait to go back.

mafernanda Olv

They made me feel like I’m home. Authentic Mexican cook and flavor. Try the Enchiladas Suizas

Frank Anzalone

Love this place! Excellent food, great tequilas! Great staff!

Martha Mitra

Very good preparation.

Mark Ahlquist

I went thinking it would be raunchy, but it wasn't, it was just great food and nice atmosphere.

Leah

I have been craving great homemade Mexican food. Not only the food but the margaritas with no pre made fake mix. I'm all in! This place is everything if you love Mexican food like I do! And of coarse a great margarita. Thanks to this restaurant for fulfilling my love for Mexican food and a tastey margarita.

Simon Zahn

Super authentic Mexican food, the kind you'd get in southern California. The tacos are amazing, and a great value for the price. I'm a big fan of the chips too.

Flor Ruiz

Amazing food, great service and my favorite place!!

Willy Rodriguez

I am NEVER going to El Rancho Grande EVER AGAIN... - No one greeted us when we walked in, or gave us a table to sit. - We waited 10 minutes for someone to bring us menus and an hour for our food. - During that time no one came by our table to ask us a single thing. Not before, not during, not even after we got our food. - No napkins, or sauce, or salt, or any condiments on the table. - Food sucked ass and so did the service. - The "background music" was extremely loud and it sounded like they need new speakers. - Despite the restaurant being so small it was completely full and there were about 4 groups of people waiting for tables, standing around people who were trying to eat in peace. One guy was practically dry humping my shoulder. - The only things I liked were the nacho sauce, the soda and the water...

Landon Kendricks

Great food. Great drinks. Prices are good. Service could be a little quicker but overall good experience

Jody Craig

Wonderful authentic Mexican cuisine. Extensive menu with so much to choose from. I had the beef chimichanga and it was absolutely delicious, the sauce on it was amazing. Large portions with great rice and beans. Great atmosphere too - adorable little place. Can't wait to go back!

Benjamin Graves

Best tacos I've ever had. Only been once but this is totally a new delicious destination of mine. Can't wait to try more, the food is authentic and tasty with polite service.

michelle gomez

4.5...FANTASTIC margarita's, and AMAZING food!! The organization of the service could be worked on a little. But overall...a MUST HAVE!
