This is the type of place, although we do not go often but if you do, "Everyone knows your name." VERY good food, VERY friendly people, beautiful Tavern. Thank you for a great Quesadilla w/chicken and House Salad, delicious blue cheese dressing and Cheese Steak and Soup. This time had the Flatbread pizza, Vegetarian Spring Roll with peanut sauce and my husband was hungry for their Ham and Turkey sandwich, all delicious.

Love the atmosphere..Tina and Jean have been the best Bartenders .Bob Shank is a real Character.. when you come in he makes a fuss over you.. very inviting.Beer selection is super those Artisan Beers both locally and out of the area are right on with what happening to day with the Mirco Beer's whether its Lagunitis..Ballantine IPA.( yes its back) a new beer fromVictory..or Dogfish Head.. check out his Web page,, he updates them weekly. .His food is very Bar Centric.. good Shushi .. many types.. his Big Fats ( hamburger) you can have it any way. you want it with Shrooms.. Such a historic bar and super friendly staff. I could spend hours just looking at the walls and the pictures and talking to all that nice patrons. Had the burger and a salad and it was perfect just as ordered. But what I really liked was the beer selection, out of the 10 or 12 taps only two or three IPAs, thus they had excellent other choices, really like that in a bar these days.

I need to preface this review with full disclosure. Over four (4) generations of my family have tipped the elbow at Shank's Tavern. This speaks to the staying power of Shank's and the love and care that they put into making this a comfortable and cozy tavern. Every time I sit behind the bar, I feel like this is home. The beer selection has kept pace with the evolving tastes of the modern American beer connoisseur. The food selection is pub fare with a little flair of eclectic, with daily specials on both food and drinks. The only negative that I can say about Shank's , is that they aren't open on Saturdays or Sundays. But this gives people a chance to take a break and not overdue a good thing. Here's to many more generations being able to enjoy Shank's Tavern!

Arguably the best bar in Marietta, Shank's is also the oldest continuously operated tavern in Lancaster County (est. 1814). Cozy atmosphere, great friendly staff, amazing food, and a very friendly crowd. Great selection of top-notch tequilas, if that's your thing. There's entertainment pretty much every weekend, and if you're lucky, "The Rod-Man" might show up and sing (the regulars know what I'm talking about

We love Shank's Tavern and are always returning, especially for the "Beef on Weck" on Thursdays. I'm originally from Upstate NY and they have the "real deal" on this particular menu item.... Buffalo NY would be proud! These are the friendliest people that operate an old historic tavern in South Central PA we have ever encountered! It's also nice to experience a tavern that isn't addicted to the "deep fryer" as a crutch for way too many items on the menu, unlike other taverns in the area. This is a real review and I am a supporter of the new "No receipt/No review!" policy being researched/proposed now to rid the internet of fake reviews.

Found it on a historical tavern web site so we thought we'd try it. We arrived on our motorcycle a half hr before they opened. I guess they saw us, and invited us in early. The food was awesome and the service was friendly and comfortable. Felt like we were one if the regulars! Definitely would stop again if in the area!

Allegedly the oldest tavern in the county. It is small like one, but food, drinks and service are superb. A must stop for those visiting Lancaster for the historical places and not the Amish who must be bored of being a spectacle. Come to the town while it is still light to get photos of the old houses and buildings going back to the 18th century.

Shanks is a gem. It's like another room to your house. Comfortable, friendly, but with a reasonably priced eclectic menu and a great variety of beers and liquor (especially tequila) to imbibe. As a local, it also has provided support to local organizations and been a place to talk and commiserate over local politics or the inevitable flooding. Bob Shank is a class act. A great guy, only better when he's dressed up as the Rod-man!! Go on Tuesdays for pho and spring rolls and Friday for sushi and seafood!

Update: Stopped in before an afternoon ride for a late lunch on a Sunday recently. Was much less crowded this time, and we ordered off the regular menu, trying one of their flatbread pizza's along with a hummus wrap. Both were very good - really enjoyed the olive tepanade that was in the hummus wrap. The service was very good, and we enjoyed meeting others who were also at the bar having lunch. We'll definitely be back again either for lunch or dinner. It's a great option in Marietta. Original: We have ridden by this place many times as we do the bike trail from Columbia up to Bainbridge, and finally had the chance to try it for dinner one night. Went on a Friday evening, and the indoor bar area was full, so we headed out to the patio where there were still a few tables open. Friday night is seafood night, so they have crabcakes, steamed clams, mussels & shrimp, as well as some basic sushi rolls (nothing raw, which was probably best). We gave them a try, along with a bowl of their cajun soup, as well as a caprese sandwich (grilled cheese with pesto, tomato and greens tucked into it). Overall, we were happy with the food, and we also enjoyed the $2 draft specials on Fosters' Lager for that night. Being outside, we did not hear the music that was playing inside, other than when we were leaving, so it's hard to comment on the music. Our service was good - she took care of us, checking on us for refills of beers and how food was. No real complaints. We'll definitely try it again, maybe on a different night, or maybe Sunday lunch.

Shanks Tavern makes the smallest strombolis ever. For $7.25 for a Strombolis the size my hand. Less than a 6 inches, about less than 1 inch wide. The dough was in some spots raw. The guy said that better than a Pizza place. Parma makes better pizza and good price. They have good drinks but food isn't the best!

Shank's Tavern is one of my favorite places. It is a place with a history, a place of proud brass and polished, time-honored wood. It's a bit of early 20th Century America that continues to survive, attracting each subsequent generation with its simple pub fare. It's a warm, inviting place that feels like the informal center of town, yet all feel are welcome. That's why I drive thirty minutes to go there. People who live in Marietta are lucky to have this place.

Definitely one of the worst experiences of my life. Went in to try something new with a friend. We orders spinach dip and as we were eating it my friend says "There's a dog running through the kitchen" I thought she was kidding but nope there was two dogs (black and white collies) running through the kitchen THEN the owner of the dogs came into the eating area with the dogs and said "Oh these ladies are from the liquor board I gotta get these dogs out of here" In a very rude confrontational manner. He leaves then comes back and proceeds to tell us "Oh I live next door and the office is upstairs so the only way up is coming through the kitchen and up the stairs (with the dogs)". He then loudly said "Do you not like dogs, are you not dog people" Obviously having dogs in a kitchen is nasty but the way this man handled it made it even nastier. He was so rude to us and not a single person that worked there said anything to him. The waitress was a lovely lady and after telling her we did not want to eat there she tried to make things right and did not charge us for the spinach dip the food wasn't horrible (what we ate of it) and our server was great but unless you want to risk getting the plague I'd suggest staying far away.

If you look up "neigborhood tavern" in a dictionary, there should be a picture of this place. The people of Marietta are wonderful and Shank's is a great place to find out for yourself. The food is really good and it's not your standard bar fare. They have no fryer, which is refreshing. Their burgers, Pho', sandwiches (great Beef on Wek), pizza and salads are nice, prices are fair and the staff is super from Tina to Cori to Neil to Megan to the man himself...Bob Shank! If you don't know Bob already, you probably will by the time you leave the place, because he makes a point to both talk to regulars and get to know the newbies. Bob is awesome...Shank's has been in his family for around a hundred years, I think, and you can feel it when you walk in. LOVE me some Shanks!
