This Restaurant is included in the category of Bar.
We were met with good service and were pleased with the beer selection. We tried the shepherd's pie and the blackened salmon. The shepherd's pie was good, but the vegetables that came with the salmon were mushy and overcooked, and the pilaf was dry and undercooked. This seems like a good place for a couple beers with friends and/or to watch a game. The atmosphere is very casual and can occasionally get loud.
I loved this restaurant. We spent a long time searching for places to grab food before finding the new deck tavern. The food here is not pricey and delicious. Additionally, the staff was so sweet and helpful. We ate at the outdoor seating for dinner. Good food and good service!
A great Irish pub with a college bar feel as well. Great ambience and a good place to watch the game. There's a trivia night on Mondays.
Food was only ok, not a place I would choose in the future.
Great place for karaoke on Thursday nights.
Awesome food.
What you see is what you get. Lots of draft beers and good pub food. Service is attentive. Clientele can get loud sometimes but that should be expected. Great for groups.
Great food on the go while waiting for my daughters surgery.
Good food, good service.
A great place for a drink and some good food! Close to UPenn Hospital, they have a lot on tap, a good Happy Hour menu and the staff is attentive and friendly.
Much larger than you might expect by just passing out front, this pub/tavern style eatery has a lot of character and a lot of seating. There's table, high table, bar and outdoor seating available. The menu has a variety of options and I found the black bean veggie burger to be rather delicious. The portions are generous, so I doubt you'll leave hungry. Worth the visit!
Food was alright, definitely isn't the place to go for vegetarian options. I got the veggie burger and it tasted like any standard black bean burger that you'd buy frozen from the grocery store. Probably wouldn't go back again for a meal, maybe for a quick appetizer.
Fish and Chips were da bomb! Awesome, fast service during the lunch rush.
At the bar for a friend's birthday. Bartenders were on point with refills and food orders. The food was good and the drinks even better.
They are a resentful gready bunch, always complaining about tips. The quizz night is not that great and they can't stand foreigners knowing the right answers. There is a slightly urine taste in some of the beers they serve, and the food tastes as if the chef had learn to cook in a Turkish jail. Enjoy your time there.
I'm a huge fan of New Deck. It doesn't matter who's the bartender that day or night, I know I'm going to get good service and well made drinks. It's one of my favorite bars in University City area because the food is great and the staff is very inviting. Plenty of televisions if you want to catch a game and seating for those who want to eat dinner.
Pleasantly surprised by the excellent curry on offer. Yes, they've got usual burgers & fries, but if you want something different, go for the curry. Note: Sansom St is the size of an alley and not well marked by the city; easy to miss if you're not careful.
Great staff and time even when your oldest person in the place.
I like that place for their happy hour, good selection of beer and Irish beer. Food is not so good but not bad. It can be very noisy when its full
Great local watering hole. Friendly staff and a good draft selection. Good for group meet ups too.
Came and went. After being seated and looking at the menu, we decided to go to another restaurant. Their menu has changed a lot since I was here last. They used to have an amazing Turkey burger. When that was missing from the menu I knew we couldn't stay. The service staff were very nice though.
A favorite spot to go just a short walk from Drexel or Penn. Burgers are good size and taste great.
Good bar and restaurant!
Good food, great decor and atmosphere. Very cozy with a lot of history.
Not great. I'm a student at Penn, was looking for a nice place to eat before class. I picked NDT because it looked nice. A bartender told me to approach the host for a table, but she was too busy giggling with her friends. When I finally got her attention, her and the other wait staff members lost me in an empty restaurant because they were too busy giggling and finishing their conversation. As a single diner I asked the hostess the best place I should be at, and she didn't seem to hear me and took me to a section so I thought it should be okay (I am aware wait staff like big tables). In front of me, like clock work, the waiter signaled to the host that she should give him a bigger table, which she then translated, outloud, in front of me, "Oh, give you a bigger table?" Bit vapid, low professionalism. Disappointing.
Good food
Good spot to grab a drink and get some food. Only been here twice but will definitely be back.
Great food, traditional Irish pub, great service
Nice atmosphere, great service, the meal was excellent!
Ordered veggie wrap, was filled with peppers and mushrooms mainly and way too much cheese. Service is always fast, dont particularly love how waitresses dress
Really good place for chilling out with friends on a Friday evening
I love this place. Old school style , Great food, and very friendly bartenders.
Nice place but food is a little pricey. Cheese steak sandwich is just ok. Definitely not worth spending over $10.
Pretty nice Irish pub with good beer selection and food. My only complaint is their to-go containers were styrofoam. There are entire countries and states that have laws banning this material. Time for an upgrade.
Great pub vibes and food.
Cosy place to hang out, few vegan snack options though
Great atmosphere, not too crowded, a d the food is good.
Great drinks, food, service!
Good salads and fries. Not a big fan of the chili, maybe too tomato-y for me. Eaten there a bunch of times. Service is good but sometimes a bit slow.
I went there a few times per week for a year or so and always tipped at least 25 percent. Since it was a small pub, I thought I would be able to enjoy being a "regular" and have people be able to know my name, make it feel more home-like, etc. That never happened. Good food and drink, but the staff could be friendlier.
Great food, good prices. Service was a little slow but we were not in a hurry. Nice draft beer selection, bathrooms are down a staircase. Definitely going back.
Good food, good vibe. I sat at the bar with a terrible service. Bar tender rather sit and chat with his fellow employee - COMPLETELY ignoring all the patrons. Few left after waiting forever. If you’re not interested in the job, don’t do it. If I was the owner, I’d fire him on the spot. This establishment is great but I guess don’t sit at the bar as you’ll get no service.
Food was good but inside is noisy and very busy
Good, vibrant place with decent beer collection. Didn't have food.
I got a burger. It tasted ok, but not great, and it was massive! I couldn't finish it, and honestly it wasn't good enough for me to even try. The fries were good though, and so was my drink. This is a decent place to meet up with friends, but I wouldn't go here for myself. Also, way too expensive.
Better than average college town bar. Plus vaguely Irish. Good food good beer selection. Penn crowd which coukd be good or bad depending on who you are. Decent option if in the area and hungry or thirsty.
The egg roll cheese steak appertizer was excellent! A must have.
Good vibes
The fries are amazing!!!!!! Also they know how to make burgers. Just damn!
Great ambiance. The staff is friendly and well-made cocktails. The food is good as well. A++
Pretty good dive bar/Irish pub. Food isn't the best but it is fine and the drinks are always good. Staff is hit or miss depending on the day
Food and beer are always great here. Staff was busy, but still helped us move inside after a nice night by the fire became much too windy to eat outside
Always treated great
Friendly staff. Really great burger.
Excellent service, good food and wide selection of beers
Food was alright, definitely isn't the place to go for vegetarian options. I got the veggie burger and it tasted like any standard black bean burger that you'd buy frozen from the grocery store. Probably wouldn't go back again for a meal, maybe for a quick appetizer.
Good food. Good beer selection. Friendly and professional.
I went 2 nights in a row on a trip to Philly and was beyond impressed that she remembered what I drank from the night before. Great place, great food and great people!!!!
We go to this spot after work all the time
I went here twice when I was in the city. Delicious burgers and cheesestakes. Good choice of beers and reasonably priced for the city.
My shephard's pie was delicious.
Geared towards students from nearby universities. Food was decent, atmosphere was better, good beer selection.
No complaints, it just didn't blow me away. Food was decent, typical pub fare. Beer selection was ok if a bit predictable.
Service was great
Great service and appetizers. Really enjoyed it.
Laid back place. Not that impressive menu but okay.
Pretty lame happy hour, like $1 off. The spinach dip was just bad. Couldn't find one artichoke in it and it was like eating warmed over cream cheese with defrosted chopped spinach. However the potato skins were good and it was cute inside. Bartenders weren't especially pleasant or rude.
Their sweet potato fries are really exceptional, although I have ordered almost everything off of the New Deck menu over my hundreds of visits here and I have never been disappointed.
Drinks are always nice!
Average food. Pretty sure this is where La Terrace restaurant was years ago, as there appeared to be a patio-terrace toward the back where we used to eat when it was a restaurant. Decent bar and excellent friendly service. Good spot if in the neighborhood.
Solid dinner menu, open late, decent drink selection and good prices.
Great food with great service
Great variety of menu items, we liked it so much we came back...twice!
Great place I've been going to since 2000. Awesome fries used to be awesome, though!
Nice, rambunctious Irish tavern. When i went there, i enjoyed an intellectual conversation while a trivia session was going on and a good old rowdy get together from another group! Cool place and the food i had was good.
Really cool bar! I enjoyed coming here, they had good specials and delicious food. Their menu had a variety of options which I really liked. Also something I noticed was the diversity of customers, regardless of the fact that it’s location is in more of a college area. I liked that there were lots of different people of different ages and backgrounds.
Great young and vibrant atomsphere. Definitely will make you feel like you are back in college. Food was good and the drinks were solid. The service was excellent. If you need a good bite after a long day and you're in the area definitely come here.
Favorite eating establishment to go to in the area whenever we are down at CHOP, which is a lot in the past year and a half.
Pretty great pub. I had a few pints and the shepherds pie it was fantastic although a touch too salty
Staff was very helpful and sincere. Had the crispy chicken salad and it was a rather large portion with a good amount of chicken so I was quite happy. Prices were very fair. Large selection of beer on draft to choose from. Definitely feels like a whole in the wall tavern and I can imagine the patio is great to sit on for a drink in the summer.
Nice atmosphere. Pleasant wait staff
Great atmosphere but service and food not so great.
A little pricey, but the food is good. Happy hour has good drink specials. They also do a late night happy hour.
Excellent burgers and pub food. Irish poutine is interesting, definitely not canadian poutine, but still delicious. Nice beer selection.
Good food, good service and reasonably priced for a center city establishment.
Great Irish Pub. Best Quizo in Philadelphia on Wednesday nights.
Very cool atmosphere and solid beer selection. Food was delicious as well. Service was decent but nothing to write home about. I'd go back though!
I was there a few years ago for dinner with a friend and the shepherds pie was very delicious.
This place has the best Snakebites and most awesome cheesy bacon fries! The staff is always friendly and the décor is awesome. This place has wonderful memories.
Good food and outdoor location
A small bar, but still very comfortable. The patrons there were fun
Happy Hour is the best!
Our place to be in University city when it's late. The food is hearty specially the fish and chips and all the appetizers. Do try the hot brownies with ice cream.
Great place, excellent cocktails
Food was really great!! Though they were super busy, they quickly accommodated our table of five with no problem. Our waitress was sweet, attentive and interactive to where we didn't feel like just another table to wait on. Id definitely go back again!!
Gross place had roaches in the dining area so I wonder what the kitchen looks like.
Great place never disappointed
Excellent fare ! Excellent service Dana was our server next level
Had lunch there recently and the fries were great! Nice tap selection and atmosphere. The bathroom areas were in rough shape though.
Kyle is an awesome bartender!! He is a great bartender and excellent customer service and people skills! We had so much fun. Food was great too. Sharon was good too.
Fun to hit up before Eagles games
Great service and amazing food!
Great place, cold beer and good people.
I ordered the chicken sandwich and the chicken was dry. Plus we had a party of 5 and the menu said they would only place a courtesy fee for party of 6. When I got my check there was a fee. The waitress started to say it was some late night fee but it was only 7pm. Plus they didn't give out a fork to my friend who ordered a salad. Do you expect her to use her hands? And none of the waiters and waitress paid any attention to us as we were trying to get their attention because they were all glued to their phones or chatting.
Good food nice staff.
It doesn't have to be March 17th for you get an authentic Irish cuisine experience at the New Deck Tavern. The first thing you will probably notice is one of two things, the first being that is most likely pack and the second is the fact that it is a tight space. Nevertheless, the New Deck Tavern makes use of the space having a small bar when you first walk in. Despite the small space, you'll find tables everywhere which depending on the type of person you are cod make you feel slightly claustrophobic. The real reason to come to this place is because of their food. I order Fries with Cheese Curds and a Ruben sandwich. Both were incredibly feeling and definitely got bonus point for authentic Irish American flavors. The service was adequate which is why they get four stars but don't let that stop you from ordering a tall frothy Guiness as you eat your bangers and mash. Perfect place to watch the game or get a lunch.
Great burger and salmon BLT. A great meal right on the edge of the PENN campus..
The awesome fries are particularly good.
Favorite place to grab an informal bite in University City... food is amazing, definitely don't skip the New Deck specials. Fun crowd, great outside seating on Sansom street.
Food came real quick and was real good.
Great place eat. Food is good. The crispy chicken spinach salad was fantastic. Service was good. I had a great experience there.
Solid spot. Have been more than 5 times. Some of the entrées are priced where the quality should be a lot higher. All of the comfort food like the potato skins and awesome fries are as good a they sound. One bartender loves to stare at his phone in the front corner of the bar. Just head to the back half if you see that and you will be given good service.
Great atmosphere, great draft beer selections, and their food is awesome too. All their appetizers are amazing, especially the nachos, wings and quesadillas. My absolute favorite appetizer is the cheesesteak eggrolls. It comes with some mixture of spicy ketchup and they're 100% amazing. The bartenders are always attentive and nice. The one woman who's usually bartending when I go in there is always on point. She gave me an outstanding beer recommendation the last time I was there for happy hour.
Enjoyed the food and drinks! Good service as well! Try the Nachos!
food was super flavorful. the prices are good for what you get. makes me feel like i am back in sacramento.
Food is delicious here. Also very good service.
This place is a pretty typical college bar. There is a ton of seating, which is nice, and every time I've been here the service has been really friendly and good. Standard menu of pub food. The food is fine, but nothing stands out. The beer list is also standard, and is kind of disappointing. Their taps could be a lot better. A couple of times the beer has tasted a little off to me, but not terribly so. Bathroom is pretty grimy. Overall its a fine place to have a drink, especially with a group, but I think there are more interesting options in the neighborhood.
I had a good salad there
Beautiful old world look.
What I would imagine from Irish pub serving food. Came in with a friend in the afternoon, and the place was almost completely empty for lunch. Atmosphere: All wooden inside. Generally quiet, but this was due to the fact nobody was inside. Food came out quite quickly, maybe 15-20 minutes wait. Friendly service. Food: Thought it was generally average, though the portion sizes are very large. Tried the Bangers and Mash (mashed potatoes, Irish sausage, sweet peas, onion gravy). I personally wish there were more sausage (came with 4 small sausage links) and a huge heaping of mashed potato and gravy. I was not a huge fan of the gravy - a bit too solidified for me, and not very flavorful (a bit bland). Peas didn't really add much to the meal either. The meal was decent due to the portion of mashed potatoes, but this also seemed like a meal I could easily make myself. The mashed potatoes were creamy, but I've also had creamier and more flavorful (e.g., garlic-flavored) mashed potatoes. These seemed pretty standard. Overall: 3/5, probably wouldn't go back, unless I needed a quiet place in the afternoon for lunch. The food options just weren't incredibly appealing to me, sadly.
Place was a real nice place to stop for a drink. The bar tender was extremely friendly. Atmosphere was perfect and not that far from U of Penn
Go too place after class
Had myTRUE first burger here and it was amazing!!! Truly loved the atmosphere. It felt very comfortable and the inside was larger than I expected. Got attended by great servers, who would always check with us if we needed anything. Need to go again!
The bar isn't bad and the out door seating is pleasant because it's located in a very hip stretch of a very boring street. The food is to pricy for a full meal but, a good spot to sit and relax with the game on.
It's cool places for quick food and drinks
Service was friendly but a little slow. The food was sub par. Potato skins and french fries were over cooked.
The nachos were good. They currently have Angry Orchard’s Rosé cider on tap which is just amazing. I went to see the Madrid-Liverpool final this weekend, and I’ve been to see other games too. Great spot!
It was a perfect late night dinner after arriving to Philadelphia. We were staying around the corner at the Sheraton and wanted a beer and good grub. We are with our 9 year old daughter who has a selectively taste. So it worked out beautifully. There's a nice selection of beer and a basic Pub menu. Food was good and so was the service.
I like New Deck fine. Sort of a younger Penn crowd usually, but I only ever go here for quizo. The quizo is fun, albeit sometimes hard to hear. But they give out little prizes before the main game so that's nice. I like the food here fine. Nothing fancy, just standard bar fare as far as I can tell. Me and my friend we're both happy with the food and the service. If you're looking for a nice simple pub situation, New Deck will hit the spot.
Nice Ambience to Chill and Hang Out Great place to hang out with friends and grab a few beers, alone or with friend. The ambience is warm and inviting. We had some snacks - apple pie and fries. Both are good!
Really good food with a college bar vibe. Kayleigh is a really good waitress, great service
A go-to place for lunch in Philadelphia. A quaint Irish Pub in decor, but not raucous at all. Shepherds Pie is a personal favorite and egg roll cheesesteaks are unique.
Fun bar with theme nights such as karaoke night!
Really enjoyed our lunch. Great service, pleasant surroundings, nice menu.
I really liked this place as far as pub food and bar goes but their specialty cocktails are awful.
Great experience.
Trivia night on Wednesdays is pretty fun, aka not impossible to do well. The trivia night food special is also quite good - $7 for nachos, $7 for a quesadilla. If you don't mind Coors, a pitcher is super cheap as the trivia night drink special.
Went for Sunday lunch with a friend. It was surprisingly crowded. It was a little loud so maybe don't go if you really want to have a conversation. The food was good, large portions and decent price. Wish it had been a little more flavorful. Service was nice. Would go back for sure.
What happened here??? What happened to the foods? the drinks?? What used to be the best fish and chips are now soggy and fishy. Quesadillas are now filled with a few fibers of burnt chicken. Cocktails are filled with sugar syrup. Even beer tastes watered down. My friends and I used to come here at least once a month but after the last 2 visits it's time for us to find a new tavern.
Nice place on a cute street between Penn and Drexel. Food was good! Overall great experience
On the Penn campus, New Deck is one of the go to places for a casual business lunch. Always crowded but service is quite quick and good.
Good atmosphere. Great food, especially fish and chips
Good food and prices. Very busy and popular
Cool bar in this neighborhood. Some outdoor seating too!
A classic Irish bar built into the first level of an early 19th century building.
The food and service here was great! We really liked the atmosphere with LL the old signs and knick knacks. We definitely recommend if you're in the area!
Good selection of seasonal and draft beers. Handicap accessible.
Long standing West Philly staple Irish pub in the heart of university city. Decent lunch fare including a really well made shepherds pie. No shortage of single malt scotch and Irish whiskey including several decadent aged versions of the favorites like Jameson and Tullymore Dew. Respectable tap list includes national and local craft favorites as well as your standard bottles of swill. Can fill up with a college crowd depending on the night.
Great place for large groups. They have an area downstairs that is able to sit up to 30 people. Call in advance to reserve.
A friendly mix of people, a variety of good beer, good food & located in a good area of Philly to enjoy.
Convenient place for big groups of people. The one thing I'd say is the cell signal was poor in certain areas of the restaurant.
Great place to grab a point with friends after work
Pricey (of course) but nice bar in University City. Quizo on Mondays is a good deal.
Nothing special here. I was in the area and looking for a place to get dinner while watching the NFL draft and this was where I went. The food was not bad, it just wasn't great. Nothing stood out to me in my meal. Everyone else in my group felt the same way. The service was pretty good. I had no qualms about it and I left pretty satisfied. We were able to have a TV changed to show the NFL draft. The atmosphere was cool in here but I don't think I will be back. I'm sure for the price I can find somewhere I like better in the area.
Great afterwork hangout
Always stop for the shepherds pie whenever we are down there. Always get great service.
Whenever we are in Philly this is our go to spot. Always good food and lively atmosphere.
Good food and good atmosphere
