Here we offer you all the opinions of people like you who are using the services of American Ale House (Restaurant) near to the state of Pennsylvania.
Nowadays the business gets a score of 4.3 stars out of 5 and that score has been based on 597 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is quite high, and it's based on a very high number of reviews, so we may think that the score is very credible. If there are many people who bothered to evaluate when they are satisfied with the business, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to give tatings when these are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant is classified in the category of American restaurant.
One of my favorite go to spots in town. It’s a great place to show visiting friends and one of my stops when I give a town tour. As always excellent service, drinks and food. The gumbo is a must! Just make sure you sit on the black floor side if you want that.
The food really is great, but the service is really was really not that good. I don't know if they're understaffed or what but the waitress pretty much disappeared. We waited over 30 minutes for two a salad. We were waiting for a to-go box and after 20 minutes we just left. Still great food and we'll give this place another shot but it sounds like there are a lot of people who have the same story here.
The food here is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Don't let the name fool you, this is not a pub it is a fine dining establishment. Their oysters are phenomenal! Their scallops are about the size of hockey pucks! Make sure you come here ready to eat because you are going to want to lick your plate clean. Their staff is so polite and helpful. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a large collection of chandeliers. It is wheelchair accessible.
First time there and had a great time. Great atmosphere thats musical in theme with a old time flare. I had their salmon entree which was amazing and the oyster nachos for a appetizer was also very good as well as dessert
Great atmosphere, good food and drinks
Maybe good food, but unbelievable horrible front desk service. I have book a table one week before the valentine's day. Just to make sure, I double check twice. "Everything is ok, it is ready." That's what they said. However, when I call again today, they tell me there is no table under my name. It ends up ruining my entire valentines day. Best suggestion: never believe this restaurant front desk, especially the guy who works on Wednesday at 3:47pm.
Great atmosphere and food is always good.
Sat for 10 minutes at the bar unacknowledged and listening to staff endlessly complain. One female server dropping f bombs like she was hanging with her homies. The place stinks. I mean it smells bad. Walked out never to return.
My son brought me and my 4 year old grandson to the Ale House last Thursday, 9/13/2018. We were sat right inside the door by the hostess station. It was not the best place to sit because I felt like we were in the way. We had a new waitress (I could tell by her shyness even before anyone told us). We ordered from the raw bar and ordered a grilled cheese for my grandson. It took over an hour to get his meal but I did not say anything. Finally after we had sat for 1 1/2 hours I motioned to the hostess and inquired about our food. She explained that the waitress was new and did not realize our food had to be picked up at the raw bar rather than the kitchen. I understand this but the hostess had to have noticed that for 1 1/2 hours we sat there with just drinks. She never asked us if we were OK or needed anything. By the time our dinner arrived it was cold. I did mention it to the hostess but it was shrimp and would not have heated up well in the microwave. I do not normally say anything or post anything but I was very disappointed that no one checked on us or asked our waitress if she was waiting for anything for our table. She also brought me a vodka and tonic rather than a tanqueray and tonic. I went to the bar to let them know the drink did not taste right and they told me what happened. While I did not expect anything special at the least something should have been deducted from our bill or even an apology from the manager. I realize you guys are busy but there is a standard of service that is expected. We have been there before and my son who lives there goes there often. ( I was visiting from Florida.) I just needed to voice my disappointment. Thank you. Lisa
Bison Burgers are really good. Service was good and the environment is nice.
Great food and neat interior design!
Their re imagined French dip / cheesesteak is mind blowing. Their recent addition of some bone marrow appetizers are tasty. Great beer selection.
Super nice dining outside. Would love to visit again!
Celebrating my friend's birthday..
Never a disappointment. Especially when there's live music in the house!
We came in on a Friday night without a reservation and were seated immediately. The service was quick despite the large number of patrons in the establishment. I got the scallops and they were the best I've ever eaten. It was a smaller portion than I was expecting but it was deceivingly filling. Highly recommend this place!!
Loved decor. Very eclectic. For was wonderful and service was great too
Great for lunch or dinner. In an excellent location and has adequate parking. Super friendly staff, exquisite menu. My only complaint is that the seats are always "crumby" and have food particles left over on them from the previous guests.
Surprisingly capacious Easter buffet. Fun dessert bar. Don't expect quiet dinner conversation though. Can get quite loud.
Love the Ale House, it's our favorite local restaurant and love the atmosphere. Highly recommend it but get a table in the piano bar area so you can order off the seafood bar.
Reliably good service and always excellent food.
Amazing atmosphere, great food. Oysters were awesome best I ever had
Lovely place. Nice environment and good food. My husband and I have lots of lovely memories here and for that, thank you.
Had some good beer and a delicious Irish special on Saint Patrick's Day. It was fun and unique.
The rating for this place should be higher. I've eaten here twice and had an excellent experience both times. The first time was with my work department - an eleven person lunch reservation. Food, atmosphere, service all stellar. The second time was last night, party of two. We sat in the dining room in one of many comfortable round booths. It's lit with a stylish quirky mix of chandeliers and lamps. Loved being able to see into the clean kitchen! We ordered the bone marrow appetizer (unique and very tasty), Thai chicken salad (the light and rich peanut sauce on the noodles totally addictive) and the Hefe Burger (the only time I've ever ordered a burger cooked medium rare in State College and actually got what I asked for) with beers from their good selection. Service was quick and thoughtful. We'll definitely be back again soon.
We had a great meal and birthday celebration there last night. This was the seared duck and scallops.
Great food.
Maybe I went on a bad day for lunch, but they were understaffed and had a limited menu. This made it difficult to enjoy. In addition while the food was good it's a little over priced.
We are forced to leave the house after spending 200+ dollars for a Tuesday night dinner. Outside was downpour rain, and the waitress had not even bring the check back, is this count as racism?
Good food, atmosphere and life music
We love seeing Dom on Thursday nights and the atmosphere in the piano bar is awesome.
We've been there twice the service has been terrible both times atmosphere nice food good
Nice atmosphere, good food. A great place for a business meeting. I had their El Jeffe burger thay is a fancy Bison burger with sweet potato fries. A little on the expensive side but very tasty nonetheless. I would definitely eat there again. Both of my business colleages enjoy their meals as well
We had a reservation for a party of 15 at 7pm. They seated us at 7:40 with the excuse that the party at our table was taking too long to leave. Sorry, but that just means poor planning as they scheduled reservations too close together. Once we were seated we sat for another half hour before anyone took drink orders let alone our food order. We were served our meals at around 9:15. I'm not one to leave reviews but the wait staff was obviously in over their heads. We needed to ask them to clear off salad and appetizer plates while our dinners were being served and no steak knives were brought with meat courses. The pork chop sounds lovely on the menu but was meh. Mine was flavorless and undercooked. As far as I know pork shouldn't be served rare. I think the experience would have been more tolerable if they had offered any apology but all we got was bad service.
I would recommend any of the Scott Lucchesi eating establishments for the food in particular. Service seems to be less than stellar at times but I believe its as good as just about any other place in State College if you eat any one place frequently over time you'll realize that turnover of employees is always a problem. Being a college town creates a host of unique problems that all contribute to this. Scott has some of the best menus of any multi spot owner . Great food that's not run of the mill. And that's why we go.
This is a favorite of ours. It's tucked into the woods at Toftrees. Nice place to sit outside, have a drink, eat and chat...relaxing.
Fun to drink beer out of their scooners. Burrata dish needed bread or crackers or something to go with it.
Excellent gumbo. Enough for 2 people. Rachel, bartender, was great.
The food is great, the seafood specialties are even better, the fresh baked bread is the best. Their beer selection is decent, there's often life music at the piano bar, and we've generally gotten above average service here. It's a little on the pricier end, but absolutely worth it for a special occasion. Do take care to make sure you go when the full menu is available-- later at night the menu is limited and we found the good a bit underwhelming then.
Portion size was more than value of price! Gumbo tasted authentic like being in a southern kitchen. The calamari was great and the pulled pork was out of this world! Would definitely recommend! Service was adequate even without a reservation on a busy Saturday night! We will definitely be back on our next trip to State College.
Everything was delicious. The waiter gave us a little too much time to think, but overall it was a good service and we didn't have to wait too long on a busy Saturday afternoon. The Blistered Shishito Peppers were delicious, but none of them were spicy at all. The cowboy steak sandwich was wonderful, as was the sweet potato waffle fries that came with the New England Lobster Roll. The only complaint I have is that there was very little lobster in the new england lobster roll. There were four shrimp that were delightful, but only two small pieces of lobster in the two toasted rolls I received.
Great food and friendly staff.
The food is pretty good. When we were there, service was a little off. It might have been a one-off. We were there a little early for dinner.
Ordered the oyster nachos (sounds strange but was super tasty) and the cowboy steak sandwich- which was also very good. We had a great waiter, so I'm not sure why previous reviews are commenting on poor servers. Overall, I really enjoyed my time, food was good, and the atmosphere is unique.
Nice eclectic menu, large wine list and selection of cocktails, relaxed environment with a great out door seating area. Menu ranges from sandwiches and salads to entrees. High quality with fresh ingredients, some local and great presentation. Quick service even when busy. Located near State College yet outside of downtown for busy PSU football weekends. Highly recommend.
Very good food and craft beers
One of my favorite :-)
Dining experience was great, food was spot on and their beer was fantastic. We will be back.
Really yummy and great atmosphere. The deviled eggs were amazing! Great experience for great prices.
Their Alehouse Burger is one of the best cheeseburgers I've had in my life. Seriously.
Food good, but service always slow to non-existent
Great atmosphere, friendly and accommodating staff. Good food with plenty of options.
Great low key spot for some good eats and great craft beer.
Great scallop, arugula and roasted beet salad. Was catching up with an old college friend who enjoyed her three cheese and asparagus sandwich as well. Only complaint was that we were chatting awhile and after we got our check our server stopped refilling our water. We weren't holding up her table bc the place was pretty clear given the hour. Otherwise all good.
Generally, a great place to eat. Food is 90% consistent from visit to visit. A favorite on the first Tuesday of the month for modern big band jazz with a 16-piece group of local and regional musicians. Staff always friendly--well worth good tips. The steam bar is exclusive to the area with dishes like jambalaya, pan roast, cioppino, and gumbo, with steamed seafood including shrimp, clams, and mussels. A recent addition is an oyster bar with several varietals available. Can be busy and crowded and loud. But you may enjoy the energy. Comfy seats in the dining room with views of an open kitchen. A good choice.
Good food. Due to Football fans the service was slow.
One of the best restaurants in State College. Don't miss Tommy in the piano bar on Friday nights.
Stopped in for brunch. What a great menu and choice. Plenty of seating. Great customer service.
Good food and service
Food was very good, but the service was terrible. I ordered a draft beer and my waiter brought a bottle. After ordering and receiving my dinner, I never saw him again until another waiter cleared my table and told him I was done. He brought my check, I paid, and left. I did not feel welcome or appreciated there. For the price, very disappointing!
Excellent fresh scallops and oysters and tremendous eclectic atmosphere .
Good food, impressive wine list.
Great atmosphere. Great food. Great drinks. Great service. I will definitely return and you should definitely check it out!
I wanted to take my boyfriend somewhere nice we have never been for his birthday.... We were not disappointed at all!! Amazing food!! We will be going back for sure!
Great food ! Great experience. Looking forward to going back soon.
Food was excellent, don't under why some menu items are restricted to certain sections of the restaurant... Customer service was great!! Will definitely be back!!
Pan roast is the specialty and it delivers every single time. Their bone in ny strip is also a highlight. Huge bar. Probably the best food in state college.
An amazing experience with good food good drinks and a wonderful staff.
Great atmosphere and good food!
Great atmosphere! The food and beer selections are top notch!
Went there this weekend for a special dinner for my daughter's PSU graduation. It was not a pleasant experience. Our waitress Jena was awful and rude. She never smiled and never checked on us to see how our dining experience was going. Our dinner took a long time and that was ok because it was an extra busy weekend, but Jena gave us our dinner with to go boxes so we would leave. I told her I didn't want to eat my expensive steak in a to go box at my hotel and her rude idiotic response was, why not? Makes perfectly good sense to me! I have never ever had such a horrible experience at a restaurant. This waitress ruined a monumental moment for my family, that we'll never get back. Quit the restaurant business Jena you're not capable of being hospitable!
A wide variety of American dining classics and a good wine selection. There is a bar area but also dining area. I wasn't disappointed.
Put this place on your list to visit for a great meal. I had the lamb with asparagus and it was delightful. The restaurant seems to be independent, the service was good, and the food was very, very good.
Wings were great. Service was great. Cowboy sandwich and Bison burger were also very good. Also had the potato soup which was good.
Great food good atmosphere,,server was very nice
Very good salads and steaks. Nice ambiance, too.
Definitely one of the best restaurants/bars in State College. The food is good. They have two menus and one of the menus is available at certain times. The service is okay but it could be better. They have a good flow of wines, so there is always a bottle opened recently.
I can honestly say that I had the best delmonico steak in my life from this wonderful restuarant! I ordered it rare and it arrived perfectly rare. The seasoning was so delicious. I usually love A1 on my steaks, but not on this one. I simply cannot wait to go here again and order this memorable meal!!!
Wow haven't been here in a long time. Food was great along with our servers.
A usual stop when we visit S.C. but this time it was a thumbs down. Of the 5 of us..all the meals were disappointing. One rare filet mingon was so tough it couldnt be cut. The other fm came rare tho ordered well done and it took 15 minutes for them to recook. An order of soup and salad came sans salad which did not arrive till deserts...an order of dinner salad could not be modified to add salmon and the $24 seared scallops we're numbered at 3, that's $8 a scallop....just disappointing for us all.
American Ale House. We walked in to an empty, yet very fun environment early in the day, greeted by kind hosts who allowed us to choose our own table. The space felt like a playground with a sense of comfort and fun (Be sure to notice the amusing posters on the wall by the piano). This place has potential for crowds of all sizes and for various functions. It was a superb environment to relax and revisit memories as you ponder your existence while gazing at your reflection through the large-mouthed tea cups.
Enjoyed lunch with my PSU kids here.
Super relaxed environment, the owner was really awesome. Great bartender and great drinks. 10/10
This has become a favorite place to eat. The atmosphere is very nice and they have good burgers!
Wonderful!! Excellent food, wine and service!!
Great place to unwind after PSU game
Best place for oysters. Incredible menu. Head chef really knows how to mix it up. Great atmosphere and well decorated.
Great service and good food.
Great staff...food..environment
They're great for large parties. Best place I've found for this in town. Solid drinks and okay food.
Wonderful place. The oysters there are soooooooo delicious! Also beef steaks are juicy and tasty they are perfect ones! Same thing happen with drinks, they offer a variety of drinks and all of them are delicious! I could say that is my favorite place for beef steaks and drinks of state college! Congrats! PS: the service is also good! But the only thing that they could improve is the open hours...two times we went around 9pm and they were closing the cuisine and couldn't prepare the food that we ordered.
Tommy plays the piano as a pro.food is great , desert was perfect also
Delicious. The duck@57 was presented beautifully
A great experience... food was tasty, well prepared and has that attention to detail (since you eat with your eyes before you do with your mouth)... overall a great experience and we will be back.
While basically every meal we've had at the American Ale House is excellent, I was really pleased with the flavors and seafood-stuffed heaven of the cioppino from the Really Swell steam bar. Our favorites from the regular menu include the oyster nachos and the prime rib sandwich. I also love the lobster roll. There is a great selection of beers on tap, with a variety of seasonal options. If you can't make up your mind they offer flights. I love how the decor was redone in recent years. It feels extremely cozy in each room, and we loved the holiday decorations. We will continue to frequent the Ale House because we enjoy the food and we love the atmosphere.
Great atmosphere and wonderful staff. Upscale but well priced.
Overpriced and not excellent food but good atmosphere and alcohol selection
At the restaurant for 3 hours for our party of 3. There for 20 minutes before we flagged down a waitress to find a server for us. We used to love eating here because the food is great. Service needs some improvement! I know a lot of the more senior/experienced staff have left due to management issues and I think it has really hurt the place! Food is still great!
What an amazing dinner. My husband had the ribeye, it was done just right. I had ricotta filled ravioli with lobster...excellent. After leaving the restaurant I had realized I lost money out of my pocket. As a last resort I called back to the restaurant just to see if anyone had turned it in and sure enough someone had. I missed having a chance to pay for your meal but I am so grateful for you, whoever you may be, and your honesty.
Great food at adorable process. Excellent interior and seating outside.
Best place for seafood in State College. Modern cuisine made with fresh, local ingredients. Excellent service. Wonderful piano bar with multi-talented pianist Friday and Saturday who plays and sings a wide range of songs and music, including Broadway standards, classics, jazz and light rock. Trio sometimes on Fridays.
Wow! The best! I've been everywhere, man! I 've been everywhere! This is IT!
The hostess could not have been any less friendly but everything was decent.
The food and beer in this place is absolutely amazing. It can get pretty busy in the weekends. I also like their Sunday brunch menu.
Nice place, great service from a new waiter.
Fantastic atmosphere, excellently eclectic menu, live jazz is phenomenal. Can't wait to try out the piano bar. This place is a gem!
Pretty limited menu but great food
Fun spot good steak
I would rate 5/5 for just the food and drinks and the ambience. However, service time was so slow that by the time food arrived at our table, I wasn't sure if the food really tasted good or it was out of sheer hunger that I found it good. It took them a while to take food orders and even longer to serve the food. I would have gone there again had it not been for the excruciatingly painful wait time. :(
Great beer selection. Gumbo is excellent. Service very friendly
One of my favorite places when in state college area. The steam bar is amazing!!!! Piano player makes this a fun atmosphere. We all loved the food. Good oysters. The risotto was delicious!
One of my favorite places to eat in State College. The patio is wonderful! The bar also opens up to be partially outside. Food wise, the 3 cheese asparagus sandwich with bacon is my go to substituted with sweet potato fries!
Great food and live music!
Went there off Google reviews. We were not as impressed as most of the other people who posted. The server could not find a second plate for our appetizer, he never came back until it was time to cash out.
Pleasant ambience, good service, very tasty menu!
Cozy spot with a decent bar with sports playing on TVs, a separate piano room with live music, and good friendly service. Lots of seafood on the menu plus burgers, salads and more.
Ive been visiting here in town for 6 days and this is THE BEST place! Best food and service ive had my whole trip!!! I ordered the Turkey Club and it came on a pretzel bun!!! Yum! mashed potatoes for side were amazing! Jules behind the bar was really friendly. I will definitely be back next time i'm in town! thank you for the great food. difficult to find in this town!
Simply delicious fare.
Best food in town, I'd drive there from out of state just for the pan roast
Excellent, definitely a favorite when staying in State College. Love the live piano. Romantic lighting.
The American Ale House is a misleading name. I was expected only burgers and bar food, but the menu had so much more variety and it was quite delish! The service felt a little slow for a quiet Sat afternoon but our waitress was pleasant and helpful and it was a nice and yummy meal.
Sunday brunch food is so good. Thid time was steak & eggs. Bloody Mary bar is one of my favs & has so many spices to choose from. Can be a busy place.
The food was AMAZING, but after our waitress brought out our food she disappeared. We waited for nearly 30 minutes after finishing our food before deciding to get up and ask the gentleman at the hostess stand for our check. Our waitress never checked back with us after bringing our food to see if we needed any drink refills or if the food was to our liking either. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food, but with poor service that we received it’s not very tempting to go back.
Excellent food but pricey. A little gem where the students don't over run it and you can escape. Sort of small and more intimate spaces but again excellent food...which takes some time to prepare so don't go for a quick bite but more of an evening out chit chatting type of place. Bartenders are excellent.
Fun atmosphere, great food, very good service.
Had a amazing steak my girlfriend had Amish chicken, was very delicious the Mac and cheese is to die for. Lots of great beer on tap.
The food is incredible.
The American Ale House has a lot going for it! The beer selection is always solid, with a variety of styles and regional and national craft breweries represented. Happy hour deals can be great, especially if you're used to urban prices. $3.25 for a glass of fine double IPA? Can't beat that. The food is a mix of bar food and more upscale bistro type meals, and I have almost exclusively eaten the former. They make a great hamburger, and the other sandwiches I've had (pulled pork, roast beef, etc.) have also been solid. Good fries, too, and prices are typical, $10-12 for a sandwich. Their house burger and fries at $10 strikes me as a good deal. I've also been to brunch once, and enjoyed it a lot (steak and eggs and coffee). I also enjoy the ambiance of this place; it's a large space, and tables are nicely separated from one another. There's a piano bar, with performances several nights a week that make for good listening but are not too intrusive if you want to eat and converse. Additionally, the patio area is a lovely place to sit and enjoy a meal any time of day, though don't forget the sunblock if you'll be there a while.
Well seems like a nice enough place sat on the deck.. beautiful night meet a friend for a drink . When I arrived at table looked at menu ordered for had a glass of wine while waiting for our orders notice when the brought out the oysters had no napkins or silver ware lucky my friends was nice enough to go get me napkin and silverware at least it gave her something to do .. Exercise if not anything else... When the octopus it was like a leather chew toy rubbery an overcooked... They replaced it with something not as rubbery or over cooked but still just a deep fried stick of frozen who knows what. LoL.. no worries Mack and cheese was not much better. But I'm sure management is just having problems getting good help... Over priced I felt for place for a fancy Applebee's.. Hopefully management get better trained employees In the future...
Place was packed for jazz night, which was really good. Sat at the bar and had and oyster po boy, with fresh oysters, tomato and a little Frank's hot sauce. Simple and excellent!! They have a nice selection of fresh oysters from around the Atlantic coast that would have been good to try, but putting that on the expense report might have been a problem. All the food looked fresh and wonderful. The place had a great vibe. If I am ever in State College again, this is definitely a must stop!
Very disappointing service. Waited 45 minutes for an outside table, and left while discussing the menu with the server. Happy we did not stay!
Awesome place to kick it
This is a very nice place to socialize with friends. The Chef is great and the food is first-rate! Tommy at the piano bar is famous for making you comfortable and enlivening your spirit. I highly recommend the American Ale House!
Excellent raw oysters and gourmet menu. A little noisy.
Great entertainment by the multinstrumental owner. This will be my new night spot.
The decor is very very lovely!! The pics don't do it justice! The live entertainment was excellent, perfect dinner volume. Delicious food.
Always great the steamer bar is like Nola
Good food (got the bison burger) and nice atmosphere. Docking a point for the parking (was a mess due to people trying to turn around at the dead end) and for just okay service (food was consistently put down in front of the wrong person).
Tried shrimp gumbo which was absolutely delicious. Have been there several times, had my birthday there last year as well. The only reason I rated it 4 stars is the service that is unbelievably slow, it took the waitress 20 min to give us water, total 30 min to take our orders when we were ready 5 min after we got in. After we got our food the waitress was no where to be seen, didn’t check on us either. The restaurant has amazing food, however services definitely need to be improved.
Amazing food and even more amazing service! Taylor and Linda are awesome. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, every day of the week! I can't wait to come back!! :-)
Nice food
Great place! Everything was great! the service, the food, drink, atmosphere etc, all good. The lamb ribs I had were delightful, the gf’s scallops were also yummy but the appetizer and dessert were our favorites. Cheese cake (no pic, sorry) with raspberry sorbet and lemon curd was heavenly and the figs with prosciutto and honeycomb was a big hit with the lady (i liked it too but she got moist over it).
Atmosphere is eclectic and relaxing. Service was great, food was delicious, and prices fair. Steak on my salad was prepared perfectly to temperature requested.
Food was good, but service was terrible. Server came and asked about appetizers, and never drinks. We had to stop him and ask for drinks after the appetizers came out. Never saw him again once food order was taken. Another sever saw our empties when delivering food and got two of us refills..Then we never had another employee come to our table ever again until we asked for the check. Between this and the miserable parking, will not be back unless I'm forced to.
Good food and service, was there with a group for leadership training. We had several servers so for a group of about 20, overall time was pretty good.
Atmosphere is very pleasant and I like the live music. The hostess was abrupt and dismissive, unfortunately. I also think the menu is a bit pricey for what is being offered.
Waited 15 minutes just to be acknowledged by a waiter or waitress after being seated.....then left because it never happened. Three different waitresses came and went without stopping. It was early on weekday and not busy at all. Extremely disappointed.
Everything was fantastic
Food good and so was service .
Fantastic! A favorite of mine in State College
Very good selection of beers and food. Lovely atmosphere. Made for a great business lunch and wasn't too crowded. Service was exceptional and highly recommend this place.
I really like this restaurant and have been going since I went to Penn State. Great place to bring people from out of town. Foods awesome and the atmosphere is charming. Often live music is playing but the layout is great so you can be involved or you can have seat in the dining area where you can still have a conversation. Really great patio too!
Food and service were great. Nice variety of food and beer.
The changes they are making to this place are ridiculous. It's like 3 different bars/restaurants in one. The new dining room seating is uncomfortable and a cheap version of Gigi's design. But don't worry, they still have the ridiculously small water glasses for you to take a sip of. The food was never our favorite but we would go every now and then when we were tired of better places, like The Field or Otto's...hell, even Champs is better. The pinnacle of our frustration came when our bill arrived and they charged us for asking for some mustard...on a burger. This isn't homemade mustard it's bulk yellow mustard. The waitress (as unfriendly as the rest of them) didn't say "that will be extra." When we asked about the charge to her and then the manager they just touted it was policy they had to follow. When asked if they charged for ketchup they said no. Mayo, yep that will cost you extra. So in conclusion, we are happy to take this place out of our rotation. If you go, have fun, but don't ask for mustard or mayo...or good service.
The American Ale House is still my favorite restaurant in State College! Delicious food, great atmosphere and staff is just wonderful.
Really good food and amazing staff
My friends (a party of 5) spend over $200+ in total. The food is terrible, but they did not complain. Still they were kicked out into a heavy rain, because of a Jazz event. The manger must be heartless. Where is the hatred coming from?
