This Restaurant belongs to the category of Latin American restaurant.
A nice place to hang out for casual food & drinks. Outdoor patio & fire ring. Inside mellow, relaxing vibe with interesting art/decor. Could use some better airflow, especially upstairs but otherwise no complaints.
Counter service place. Ordered the pot belly dish with their little corn bread cakes. Forgot what companion ordered. Pot belly was over cooked and dry even though it was way over sauced. Dish was served barely warm and very greasy. Little corn cakes are like southern hot water cornbread. They were a little larger than silver dollar size cold, hard and dry. They seem to have an extensive drink menu. That Thursday during lunch they were out of a number of items. I had water.
Very unique atmosphere and food selection. The flavors were good, the cultural representation was better. If you've never tried this type of food, I recommend giving it a shot. It was similar to a Latin American rice bowl, served with a fried corn cake, seasoned meats and vegetables. There are vegetarian and vegan options available as well. Give it a try for a unique and delicious much or dinner
The best place to do the "Portland" thing. Great food, fun patio, and good price.
Great food. Fast service. Much bigger than it looks.
Fast friendly service and great Latin American inspired food - we had rice bowls with Diablo pork belly and beef in mole sauce, sangria and a margarita. All were tasty and moderately priced.
I'm so sad to be leaving this review but here it goes: Teotes used to be amazing. In their quest to expand the franchise I have lost my favorite restaurant. It was the place i would bring visiting relatives, friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately the menu had fundamentally changed. First of all the have sharply raised prices in the last year (this was completely forgivable, the food was amazing) but the items I love have changed. Masa nosh is no longer made from the arepa corn muffins, the chips they now use are subpar. Pernil is no longer on the menu (it was a marinated slow cooked pork,) and there is nothing there to fill the void. Mole is also no longer on the menu either. I don't know if they lost the "talent" in the kitchen but they have lost me as a customer. A very generous 2 stars.
Every time I come here, it was a superb experience. First of all, their food is just amazing! And their space is very well designed, it creates very authentic feel. Also if you are in there during the summer, I recommend checking out their outdoor space! Such a chill place.
Authentic food and really good cocktails.
Fun little back patio with delicious food and drinks. Kombucha on tap ftw!!
Excellent food great atmosphere. Plantains are awesome.
It was ok food. Small portions and i got really sick afterwards. Not sure if there was anything wrong or just my sensativity, just not worth a second risk for me.
Pretty good Heute Mexican establishment. Not real authentic but definitely fusion is going on. Enjoy!!!
The food was great, place is little small but comfortable and they have an open area where you can sit outside and have food/drinks.
As a pleasant surprise, the servings were much larger than I was expecting. Also, the restaurant itself is much bigger than you think when you first walk in and it's a really fun space.
Excellent food, great atmosphere and tasty drinks! Arepas are where it's at
Great ambience, draught beers, music and latin american food!
If you're going for atmosphere and social gathering I give it a 5. The upstairs is amazing with the fire pit and full bar. The menu is alright, I feel like it's a little pricey there but what they do give you tastes very good.
I absolutely love this place. Menu with great variety & dietary accommodations. Always a place I recommend
Everything in the menu is delicious! Great staff, they also have a bar upstairs 21 and over only. It’s one of my favorite places in Portland!
Some of the best gluten free food you can get in town. Even if you're not looking for gluten free, the food here is still amazing. Come during the warmer months & hang outside around their firepit. Can't go wrong with any of their dishes, especially the steak plate. Portions are pretty big so come hungry.
Went here recently with the family and I can't wait to go back! The food is great and the atmosphere is wonderful, I really enjoyed myself.
Interesting and creative Mexican fare. Good food. Modest prices. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Amazing food. Will be back!
Delicious Latin food. Great upstairs seating
Was super excited to try this place out, but left feeling extremely disappointed. Went in on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm. Walked in and saw three people working behind the counter (2 chefs and 1 server-type person). We went up to the counter to order and were completely ignored by the guy in the red wings shirt behind the counter for a full 5 minutes. Not a single “hello” or “I’ll be right with you”. There was not a single person inside on the main floor or the upstairs floor. The patio didn’t even have every table filled, so I’m not sure what was so important that we didn’t deserve a shred of attention from this employee. It felt like placing our order was severely inconveniencing them, as the employee was very short with us. Got to the patio, which is very cool and the reason why we didn’t just leave. But we quickly realized there was no bartender at the bar and no signage or staff around to direct us to where we might order a drink. The food came out suspiciously quickly and the server had no idea what food belonged to whom and what table to bring it to. Food was surprisingly bland for how amazing it looked. Instead of going back downstairs to order drinks from the surly employee we simply left after eating. Will not be back again. Probably would have been better off going to the Alberta location.
Great food, easy to find and cool venue.
The restaurant is very appealing, has all sorts of areas that are creative and even an outside area with a fire pit....The food however needs lots of work. We ordered three items, all lacked flavor. Black beans tasted as if no spices had been added, the same goes for the rice, plain white rice, no spices added. We had the mole, dry, shredded pork absolutely zero spices or chocolate added which is what makes this dish so unique, we tried the Arepas and another meat dish titled "El Diablo", sweet, heavy and unappealing. Go for the drinks and atmosphere.
Delicious food. And Horchata! Nice indoor space with some great covered outdoor seating upstairs and in the back. Happy hour 3-6pm. You won't be disappointed.
Delicious food. Eclectic layout. One of the best places to eat in Portland.
Food was good, its always nice to try new things! The outdoor seating area was really cool.
I had their grilled pork chop. Best pork chop I've ever had, if I'm being honest. Nice little place
Awesome space with tons of flavorful options. After placing our order we made our way up to the patio over looking the street. Afterwards, we noticed there is a large outdoor patio where the bar is located. The portions are large and the food is filling. Definitely worth stopping by to enjoy a bite and a drink in a cool building.
This place is really great. They have super delicious food that is in excellent quality. There's also a huge selection for beers, ciders, and margaritas. They're margaritas are amazing. They have a great atmosphere there, and their workers are the best--always super friendly and helpful. If you're on the fence about checking Teote out, definitely go! It's super worth it.
I ordered an arepa and received a hard corn biscuit to dip in some pulled pork. The plantains were dry and doughy. My margarita was fine, but my husband's was bitter and undrinkable. Seems like they spent all their money on the space, which is cool, but doesn't make up for the food.
Loved the smokey chicken plate. Great service, casual and great food.
Super yummy food and a fantastic patio that works in both the Portland winter and summer! The decor really actually reminds me of Mexico.
One of my favorite restaurants in Portland by far! It can be relaxed for lunch but it's got a great bar and outdoor lounge area. The food is grea; really good flavors..
Food was decent but staff was very unfriendly. No one acknowledged us for at least 3 minutes as we waited at the counter. It felt like we were being a nuisance to them by ordering food. There was no one at the bar upstairs and there was no signage as to where we should order a drink. Rice and beans were very bland.
The vegan option is a dull bland misfire. I'm convinced they could do better but it feels like they don't want to.
Great atmosphere and all the food is gluten free!
Extremely nice people and atmosphere with food to match!
Great atmosphere, tasty food and good house made hot sauce
Fast service, delicious food, very small close nit.. love Mom and pops
Great patio. Great food. Great beer
Fab food, drinks, environment and service. I love this spot for a nutritious lunch near work. I am never disappointed.
Great food great drinks. Fun atmosphere and the patio is great and had live music.
amazing flavors, amazing back patio atmosphere. Tasty drinks, all around lovely
First time here. Enjoyed my time. Food and drink are delicious. Foods comes out super fast. Atmosphere is nice. Patio is the best place to sit.
This food is incredible and the back patio was so cool and comfortable!
Never been here before. I went a few weeks ago and it was AMAZING! Food was soooooo tasty and the service was super fast. Definitely will be back.
Amazing food and a beautiful back patio. This is an extraordinary place to hang out.
Food was AMAZING. Way better than i anticipated. Parking can be a little challenging.
Delicious good, friendly staff, and a very unique upstairs patio.
Fantastic food. Cool environment. Good service.
Down from a previous rating of 5 stars because they discontinued my favorite dish, the reason I travel across town to eat here: their erstwhile glorious pernil!! A stunningly poor decision, and one that I am extremely sad to say will prevent me from returning in the future to this otherwise phenomenal spot! Bring back pernil!!!
Great food, with low carb options. Alway a bit crowded and there is sometimes a long wait to get food.
This was a surprise! Went here to meet up with a group to talk about plans for the coming months and i was surprised at how large the space was! Completely unassuming if you didn't know what you were walking into. Food was great and they have options for different appetite sizes. I think I told 11 people to check this place out in the following 3 days.
Good food and ambiance
How disappointing that Teote has fallen into a tourist trap stop - small (cold) portions, indifferent service, and the need to turn seating as quickly as possible. There are sooo many other great foodie places in town that I will not be returning anytime soon.
Very much yum. Try something new here and you won't be disappointed. The menu is varied, and there is a good selection. Even if you're not feeling adventurous, the food is consistently delicious.
Great Venezuelan cuisine! All the meat options (from beef brisket, to spicy shredded pork, to chile chicken, and more) are delicious however there is vegetarian options if needed too! The arepas and fried plantains are tasty howcer you can get a bowl with short grain rice and black beans instead. If you love latin food you'll love this place- as an added bonus the housemade salsa and margaritas are awesome as well. I go here whenever I'm visiting Portland now and I'd highly recommend it!
Best date night ever. Inexpensive but amazing food, incredible beer and drink list and hands down the best patio in town
We went there on a Saturday night. The line looked long, but it went fast. The arepas were phenomenal and the brisket was cooked perfectly. Try the hot sauces. They had two that night. One was jalapeno and the other habinero. Everything was excellent including the jalapeno margarita!
We've only been here once so far, but have to give this place an A+. The bar an restaurant are spread across several rooms over several levels, and best of all is an inspired patio out back. We only had nacho chips, but they were excellent and service was fast. Teote is located on the edge of the Ladd district near Burgerville.
What a unique place. Great food. Wish they had a better kid soda selection
i had an amazing experience here, the whole family went and we all loved it very much, the food was delicious and the customer service was excellent! everyone was very kind, i would definitely go back!
Great place! Went while visiting town.
I have been twice now and enjoyed each experience at Teote. The upstairs bar areas are ideal for larger groups, 5-8 people!
Ambiance is nice and enjoyed the live music. Food is mediocre which is really not acceptable in the city of Portland. Go here for coffee/tea or drinks, not the food.
Good food, lively atmosphere!
Very nice eclectic spot with good food and drinks
Outdoor seating is nice. I ordered Alcohol and Beer and it was nice and served nicely. Happy hour drinks & Happy hour food price was reasonable. There are many healthy food options. There are many vegan food option on the menu. Place is also good for kids. Wi-Fi facility was available. Atmosphere was nice and Cozy. Overall a very nice experience of dining.
Excellent Hispanic food. I would tell you how excellent it was but I don't know how to pronounce anything nor spell it. Reasonably priced bowls of meat, vegetables, rice and plantains. The atmosphere is awesome. Unique and different but very Hispanic. Customer service was perfect. Four of us had a work meeting there and it's a perfect place for that. The staff was accommodating and really kind. I wouldn't suggest ever having a work meeting somewhere without making sure you tip well. Otherwise, it's just simply rude. Definitely a Portland staple and I must try. I know for me, I'll be coming back.
I cannot fathom how this place is so highly rated. The arepas are cornmeal hockey pucks that no Colombian would recognize. The beans had no flavor. The pork had nice flavor but everything was cold. The margarita mix was 1/3 orange juice. Surly counter help. I was super excited to try this place but I won’t be back. The best part was laughing at the terrible food with the table next to us.
It’s hard to mess up black beans, you’d probably do better at home. Don’t waste your money & time. We had the “vegan” arepas served in a bowl straight from the “Goya” can with no seasoning with compost looking cabbage garnish on top. We took the meal home add some salt, pepper, garlic. we cooked the beans with a bit of love and it was edible at last. Arepas were ok not great, Guacamole came brown to the table. A bummer from sight to taste. Teote perhaps has good meat options but it’s way behind in offering tasty vegan food. Real good food doesn’t need cheese or meat to be delicious. The cook at Teote doesn’t love his/her job. Mediocre and overpriced.
Absolutely love this place. Unique vibe for Portland, delicious food, expedient service.
Great food in a relaxed, unique, warm atmosphere. It's like eating in a tree house when you were a kid, but the the food isn't PB&J's! The mixed drink specials are awesome, good beers are on tap and a really interesting menu of Latin American dishes makes it hard to know what to choose. I recommend not trying to change anything to make it what you like/want, instead, let yourself fall into a unique atmosphere -- sit in the treetops, try food you've never paired together and drinks you've never tried. If you want to the same old same old, MacDonald's isn't far away. If you're interested in experiencing someone else's love of food and how to enjoy it, Teote is calling you ... and once you've tried it, you'll want to go back for more!
Very nice! The food comes fast and the space is lovely. Not fancy exactly but really good.
Love this place!! And just about everything on the menu! Great ambiance - order your food, head up the stairs and out to the covered patio. The patio is heated in winter, cooled in the summer - it's a great spot all year around. One our favorite spots to take friends/family who are visiting from out of town...
Delicious gluten free Latin American food. Outdoor patio with a fireplace, picnic tables and bar. Great margaritas!
Very nice! The food comes fast and the space is lovely. Not fancy exactly but really good.
Great experience! Wonderful food. They have a patio upstairs!
Amazing service and great tasting food. What more could you ask for?
Great food and an awesome patio bar!
The vegetarian plate was amazing! So many wonderful flavors that are strong on their own, but complementary as well. Pretty good/unique beer selection as well. The tree house part is so cool. The fire is awesome, there's so many interesting decorations, and the best part is, it's heated!
The quantity of food was too less for the price. I ate the bowls so I'm not referring the same. The street stew was good through. You should order it with some bread or rice.
Great little place for hanging out and grabbing a quick bite.
Cool outdoor patio, great food and cocktails
If you have not had arepas, you have not lived. Teote has fabulous food. My husband and I tried to share a meal, and the portion was too small so I ordered more. The flavors were incredible...bursting with full flavors! Just a note, the restaurant does not have A/C so go when it's cool. We were so hot, we didn't hang out very long. However, I would definitely go again.
Cool space, great recipes, consistent execution. This is always a stop when I'm in Portland.
Food is amazing! I love the jalapeno margaritas.
Awesome place. Gorgeous interior. Delicious food!
Amazing atmosphere and Latin flavored food. Nachos are by far one of the best near downtown Portland. Happy we found this place!
You get to climb stairs to be able to sit down and eat.
Had a wonderful meal with this place. All the food had amazing flavor, very filling, $30 for a family of 3!
Great place cool treehouse feeling outdoor area. Great food friendly staff, busy nights and weekends, took a bit to find a parking spot
Great food, great price, great service. I got the Street Stew and a side of black beans, perfect spicy salty balance. (And the takeaway containers survived a 5 block walk in the pouring rain without spilling!) Would highly recommend!
Always Delicious! The fresh juices are awesome. Get there early or late as there is always a line during the most common dining hours. Worth it! Great bar upstairs at their 12th street location.
I love the bar upstairs! It feels like you're outside, and it has a fire pit.
I'm a courier for grubhub and doordash. This restaurant is one of the ones who seems to think we're aren't people or customers. Standing at the online pickup area for several minutes. This employee refused to look at me or acknowledge my presence. Even when he wasn't talking to another customer. Standing not two feet from me and just refused to look or speak while I waited patiently. He continued to do so until I started looking very angry and start glaring at him. No one should have to glare at an employee to be acknowledged. Only after this did this employee speak to me. There is no reason to treat people like this. If you are busy a quick ill be right with you goes a long way. Not here. No common courtesy in sight. You are just a courier and therefore not a human being. This person has no business working a customer service job. Another employee saw me and also ignored me. This is not how you should treat people.
Great outdoor patio with fire place that is covered so you can even enjoy in the rain. I recommend the mezcal flights.
Great margaritas and awesome food!!!!! The patio is super nice too!!
All 4 dishes we ordered were very dry and blend. Rice looked like it was from yesterday and reheated. Drinks very expensive. Terrible service, no waiting, they just bring you your food but after that you're all on your own. To pay $75 for a mediocre meal for 2 adults and 2 kids.... thanks but no thanks! The only cool thing was the "atmosphere" and decor.
Excellent food, neat atmosphere.
Food is good. Cocktails are awesome. Love the outdoor space. Staff is friendly and welcoming 80% of the time.
I would have previously rated TEOTE 5 stars for their awesome food and atmosphere, but since this spring they stopped offering two of my three favorite dishes. My go-to’s are the Reina, Pernil, and Mole - but the Pernil and Mole have been AWOL since the spring. Come on TEOTE, what are you doing? Bring them back!!!!
Wonderful food as usual!
Excellent food and drinks at the price! And the service is always spot on as well!
Good food, tasty drinks, great patio with fire pit
Great food and atmosphere. The patio is awesome, probably even better at night in the spring or summer. Food was good, though the salad to meat portions are a little much. I could have fed a small goat on the amount of salad given with the meal and was left wanting for something more substantial. Several selections were out when I was there, and you have to order first at a counter, so no table side service other than when they deliver your order.
Lovely location, building, decor, atmosphere, staff and plates are great. They make a terrific selection of meats. Great spot to meet with friends or 2nd to 3rd date. Great drinks too!
Great atmosphere, tons of seating options, full service bar upstairs, and tasty food. The line system can get long while you order, but the portions are hella good. I've been on like three or four dates here. They all went well, except for the fact we never went out again. But I don't think that reflects on the quality of this establishment. Probably more of reflection of my inability to commit or make myself emotionally vulnerable and available. I recommend get a bowl for yourself and splitting an order of arepas with someone. A bowl, salad and arepas is too much for one person.
Amazing food! Great portions - they don't cheap out on the meat either. Food came out super quick. Very nice patio.
Nice place. Hard to find parking. Food consists of bowls. Plantains are savory not sweet. Lots of food for a moderate price.
The food is really good, they have a great patio.
Great place. Open seating inside and out. Love the outdoor fire pit area. Portions are a good size for the price. Three Arepes would easily fill two people. Good for kids and medium sized groups.
Great ambiance. The food was a little oily. Beers are great !
10 stars if I could. Amazing eats. Just go. You won’t regret it! Update: 5/23/19 Went last night again for the 5th time and it wasn't as great as it has been in the past. Service was great, but the food was just ok. My go to is the Teyote Bowl with the El Diablo Pork Belly. There was hardly any meat in it, and it seemed like it had been made hours prior. Typically It is a bit skimpy on the meat (in my opinion) but what is there usually melts in your mouth. Last nights was a bit on the rubbery side. I would excuse it if they were jam packed like they usually are. But it was a little later in the evening (7:30) and the patio was busy but had choice of seats in the restaurant. I love this place and hope that it will redeem itself on my next visit. If this would have been my first experience here I would have given it 2 stars for the service. Leaving it at 4 because there were several great experiences in the past.
The Arepas and Agua Fresca were delicious. I love that they have a different spin on Mexican cuisine beyond tacos and burriotos. The service was friendly and the atmosphere is casual and comfortable.
The food was excellent and very delicious! I don't normally eat gluten free food, but it didn't taste any different from food with gluten. The margaritas were also really good. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
I came in from out of town and this place was suggested. She talked about the great food, atmosphere, and the over all aesthetic of the place was amazing. I will fully agree with her. It was a great place, and we were able to have a great time there. I would suggest this place to anyone.
A great place to get a drink or quick bite if you happen to be in the area.
Hands-down one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. Their food is so wonderfully unique, but still feels like “home”. I am so thankful that they share from their table, to us, as It’s become one of the staple go-to’s for me. Their drinks are great, and the location even better. Go upstairs, and to the back patio, and enjoy a wonderful fire-pit, and outdoor area. Enjoy some mezcal and tequila yum yum. Best of all, the way they decorate is so beautiful, and makes you feel welcome. They also have a second newer location that opened recently. Hope you get to enjoy
Great food and innovative drinks! Will definitely return.
Has a super cool secret patio. The food is unique and the drinks are great.
So good!!! The meat is great and the seating looks and feels amazing.
Super yummy! The seating left something to be desired but the food was fantastic.
Such a cool place with great food and great staff. Friend of mine and I went here for the first time and loved the patio area out back. They have an awesome fire place to gather around if you choose. This is definitely a great place to grab a bite to eat and hang out.
Good food, nice ambiance. Loved the upstairs outer deck.
Great food, very fresh and wonderful flavors.
The food is unique and their outdoor patio is wonderful.
Bland overpriced but authentic tasting and great atmosphere.
It was a good experience, you have to order downstairs an you might feel a little overwhelmed what to order. It is all healthy:)
Great food! Nice atmosphere & decor.
The ONLY thing I don't like about this haven is that it closes at 10 pm - 11 pm on Fridays and Ssturdays. The menu provides a delicious variety that can satisfy an omnivore, a vegetarian (or vegan) or celiac. The seating is comfortable - especially out back around the fire pit - where there is another (convenient!) bar. The staff is always happy and helpful too!
Superb service, TERRIFIC eats and a great atmosphere!
Loved this place. Creative dishes, but unpretentious. Just lots of flavors and good Cuban comfort food. The place is lively and laid back at the same time. Buen sabor!
The food is delicious and fast! The patio is also a really lovely and unique space.
I joined a few friends for the Happy Hour. The front on the cafe is tiny and deceptive as to how cool this place is. Take the stairs up to a larger room, pass through and down to the "backyard". Here there is a gas fire pit...perfect for a December evening.
Absolutely delicious food and a chill atmosphere. For someone with severe food restrictions, an all gluten free menu that also tastes amazing is a rarity and a huge blessing. Recommend!!
My go-to celiac-safe spot everytime I visit! Amazing flavors, delicious drinks and a fantastic patio when the weather is nice. Highly recommend the Arepitas stuffed with jalapenos and cheese, the smoky queso dip and almost any of the arepas.
I love their patio. I love it so much I have to repeat myself. I absolutely love their patio. Got to be one of the best patios in the city. I also very much enjoyed their bowls and happy hour beverage options are fun.
Fun place and a great atmosphere. Great back patio even though it was full and we had to sit outside. Food was great and everyone in our group was happy with what they had. I did however have a long hair that I partially swallowed and the pulled out. I understand it's easy for that to happen but not fun to find. Get here early, line was out the door and down the street when we left around 730.
My current favorite restaurant. Good prices and great healthy food options.
Very friendly and comfort place. Good food, easy parking.
Excellent food, great seating options! If you're not eating on the back patio you're not doing it right
Smells amazing, patio is dope. Good specials
Awesome back patio and delicious food and cocktails. I've never made it to their place on Alberta because I love this one so much.
Outstanding food and vibe. Love it!
Great food, mezcal selection is great. Outdoor seating is wonderful too
Loved this place! The food is so good, and the atmosphere is fun and laid back. We spent the day on a hike with the dog and needed somewhere to unwind and feed the beast, so I was very happy that they allowed dogs on their very cute patio. Both the bowls we got were delicious, very filling, well proportioned and a great price. I could of sat there all night, looking at all the cute decor by the fire. I would definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for fun place to go.
We love Teote! They specialize in delicious arepas, and the atmosphere is one of a kind, with a large outdoor courtyard.
The food was good, smaller arepas than I've had before. Kind of wish the extra $2 scoop of guacamole wasnt plopped onto the sweet plantains. Girl at the counter was a little impatient. Lack of A/C or even fans in 89 deg heat was kind of ridiculous. We left early as a result.
Love all the metal work in the restaurant and the food is tasty.
I love this food!! Also an interesting space to be in. The arepas are yummy. In warmer months you can eat in an open courtyard. I've been back several times.
My favorite restaurant in Portland. Recently they have gotten stingy with their margaritas but the food is amazing.
The food is absolutely amazing and the prices are very reasonable! I believe the entire menu is gluten free. The upstairs is very nice. All the staff were friendly. I would highly recommend this place!
Love this place but they changed their “MasaNosh” and charge $9 for a pile of chips....
Totally felt immersed in another culture. Delicious savory food. MEAT!!!
