Waited about 45 minutes at 10a on a Saturday, but the food was worth the wait. I recommend the Tasty Steak & Cheddar Eggs for brunch. The biscuit is also really good, soft and flaky and worth trying out. Had the Potatoes Bravas as it was recommended by the waitress but I wasn't a fan of it personally.

Cindy Collier

This place have amazing food and good service

Ahad Subzwari

Solid brunch spot with traditional American fare. The chicken biscuit I had was good. Very brunchy atmosphere.

A Patel

This place has some amazing food to present to you! I was amazed at how much their staff cares to ask about any allergies to list. And makes recommendations to you based on your preference. The potatoes are so delicious

Joshua Oney

Delicious food, great atmosphere. Very popular though and the wait can be insane. Try to get there at a not busy time, or plan to visit Powell's while you wait!

Trevor Bell

Great sharing breakfast place. Each plate is a bit smaller, but that works when you want to try lots of different things! Polenta was amazing and ending the meal with the French toast was perfect! Great service too!

Jer Baum

Unbelievable. We had a delightful experience sitting at the bar while having brunch. The bartender was perfect, a true asset to the team. We were also lucky to sit next to friendly strangers that we also visiting from out of town. I had the steak and cheddar eggs, which were incredible, and my beautiful partner had the steak duck, which was good, but not nearly as good as mine. The cheddar eggs were perfection with every bite. We will most definitely be back. thank you

Jared Ramirez

Yum. Stopped here for lunch and had the ribeye with freshly grated horseradish. Delicious. Love the vibe and food here, will visit again next time I'm in Portland!

Chris Raley

Amazingly great steak! I've gone out of my way each time I've visited Portland and have waited over an hour each time to eat here but it's absolutely worth it. The steak is so tender and flavorful and is just well seasoned.

Allison McClure

Absolute best potatoes I have ever had!

Guadalupe Madison

I honestly can say that the food are delicious and the customer service is good. I decided to try sweet potato fries and it was scrumptious. Sadly though, chicken sandwich was ordinary. My visit here was enjoyable. I will likely come back here.

Kiran Cheema

I usually love the food and service here but my last visit was terrible. Got seated quickly after ordering drinks at the bar but the food started coming out before our drinks made it to the table. Everything was good with the exception of one of the steaks we ordered. It was so tough that it was difficult to cut through nevertheless chew. My husband let our server know and she said they'd replace it and walked away from us with his plate while we were still talking to her. She seemed personally offended and gave us the cold shoulder for the rest of our meal. We waited a while for his food and also had someone else come by and take another drink order that didn't show up. Our server finally asked us and brought my husband a beer on the house for having to wait. Other than that, she barely acknowledged us until she quickly dropped the check off and walked away again. The whole experience was just uncomfortable and not what we'd expect when we're spending $150 on a meal.

Souvik Kar

Great steak! Had the dry aged ribeye medium rare. The meat was very juicy and tasty. It would have been better if they had trimmed off bit more fat.

Jon Olivera

Very delicious food! Ordered lots of small platters so we could try everything. It was all great!

Marylou B

Good food and atmosphere, staff is friendly ans professionnal but there has been a real problem with service when I went, we were two person order both wyagu steak but received it 45min later from one an other, they say that when it's ready in the kitchen, they serve it and two plates order at the same time may not arrive together, but 45 min to wait for the other half of an order looks like more that they forgot to place the order or don't know the basic of restauration which is to serve a partie at the same time... However good place to eat.

M Dowd

So delicious. Eclectic, upscale, french farmhouse menu. But not annoying. Busy, open kitchen and small dining room that feels homey rather than claustrophobic.

TowBoatUS SF Bay & Delta

This place offers unique menu options and we had excellent service. The staff was great.

David Ray

Order one of everything. You won't regret it! Innovative food, huge family style portions, great servers and staff. Fun and hip.

Kathy Garcia

My wife and I enjoyed Tasty n Alder so much. We ordered the half order of potatoes brava, half order of French Toast and the Bim Bop Bacon and Eggs to share and all for a very inexpensive price of $35. The whole experience was amazing. Friendly and attentive service. The potatoes had an amazing flavor, Bim Bop was one of my favorites, the rice was crispy at the bottom and kimchee was the best. So flavorful. My wife's favorite was the French Toast, it was soft, sweet and delicious. A must try for Brunch.

I wanted to try this restaurant for a long time. I went here around noon on Monday and it was pretty crowded. It was a small place and we had to only wait about 10 minutes or less to get seated at the bar next to the kitchen. We ordered Korean fried chicken and biscuit fried chicken and fries. The fries were pretty good I love the sauce however most of the fries were stuck together and small pieces. The chicken biscuit was dry and lacked flavor. The Cranford chicken was kind a hard I wish it was less batter and more soft. Overall it wasn’t worth the price I would say it was double the price for the food they can get elsewhere for a better taste. I recommend going to FOMO chicken for Korean fried chicken for half the price and it taste better. And I recommend going to Pine State biscuits as it is cheaper and has gravy.

Mandy

I love all the Tasty n’ Daughters family of restaurants. Tasty n’ Alder is fantastic. It’s always busy so definitely get reservations as if you expect to just be able get a table, you’ll be waiting at least an hour. The meals are always great and the service is fantastic. I recommend ordering multiple plates to share with the table that way you get to taste a little bit of everything.

Suzanne Wurmnest

5 stars! We came for brunch and it was amazing. Everything was served family style and whatever plates you order come out one at a time whenever they're ready. Smallish portions, but you can't go wrong with anything. Be prepared to add another plate or two onto your order after you start eating!

Oregon Marine Construction

I have to say it was definitely worth the wait! Wonderful food and the waitstaff was on point. We'll be back for another visit in the future...

Cale Stus

Great service. Great timing. Great food. Cocktails are pretty solid. Eaten here many times. Will return.

Zach Sylvester

Did not try the food, they didn't have a big happy hour menu, just grabbed a drink at the bar during midday on a Sunday. I got a beer, the drink my fiance was delicious and strong. Saw their sister restaurant (tasty n daughters) had a good happy hour menu so we headed over there.

O W

Great food, sourced and fresh. Wait staff was friendly and welcoming. Interesting and adventurous. Would highly recommend.

Nicole Aydë

We went for the dinner menu after two attemptd of over an hour wait. They don't take reservations so if you would like the dinner menu, you need to show up early to put your name down. Personally I don't feel like it was worth the wait or had particularly exceptional food. My scallops were super salty and were very expensive for three. The crab dip was good but was too fatty for me, felt like it was more mayo than crab. My favorite was probably the Moscow Mule (first time trying one). If I were to visit Portland again, I'd probably pass on this and go to grazza, or try the brunch menu.

Alyssia Holmes

Unique and elcectic menu items, great atmosphere and the music was just my style! Definitely check it out!!

Rachel Cunningham

Cool plates and excellent service but sure it's worth the monster wait.

Melissa Jones

I always enjoy coming here for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They were very accommodating to my egg and tomato allergies even for breakfast items. I loved the flavor of the food. We sat at the bar in order to have a shorter wait for a table. The drinks were very good. They have a nice bar selection.

D S

If you make a sandwich this good, you will be famous! It's no wonder why this place makes every list out there. Put this on your list and enjoy food that will

Robert Getch

I love Tasty n Alder (and their sister site Tasty n Sons). The menu rotates but you can always find something hearty and delicious to try. On my last visit I had their amazing shoestring fries (fried in truffle beef oil), with a southern fried chicken sandwich on a biscuit. The fries were amazing. Perfectly salted, great flavor, I wish they were bottomless (though you get more then enough for one). The biscuit was just right, the egg adding just enough moisture, and the fried chicken was

Hamish Hill

We arrived late in to Portland on a Saturday night, while it was busy we were sat almost immediately. Our waitress made some great suggestions for two of us to share, one of which was the cedar planked Salmon. Friendly staff, quick service, great shareable dishes and some cocktails to match.

Tammie Barnes

Okay, now we know what all the hype was about! Popped by Tasty n Alder for a late lunch after visiting the Japanese tea gardens. We caught the Happy Hour menu and were extremely satisfied with the chips and dip, spiced beef kabobs and steak sandwich. Absolutely delicious, and highly recommend anyone in town to visit!

Julieta Ramirez-Solis Nguyen

The portions were quite nice considering it was pretty filling. It was a reasonable price for gourmet food. I had the burger (it was the only dinner burger they had). It was absolutely delicious. Hands down the best burger I’ve ever had. It was juicy but in a way that didn’t soak thru the well-baked bun. The tacos were what i felt weird about. They weren’t bad but I’ve had better. The tortilla was obviously made there, not store bought, it was very well made. The filling didn’t have something that popped out, it all blended together. Service was also very sweet.

will holland

Almost crossed this place off my list because I knew the wait for a Sunday brunch could be pretty long but we lined up as it was about to open and got in relatively quickly. You're greeted by a very attentive hostess when you walk in who walks you through exactly what to expect as a first time patron, she also gave some recommendations that were right on. We sat at the bar and our bartender was very talented and nice to talk with. Food was really, really good. Atmosphere was lively and packed.

Irwan McGregor

Great food, got myself Cowboy breakfast. Waiting for 45 minutes but it's Sunday morning so it's understandable. Definitely going back with more crowd

Prita Das

Excellent, excellent brunch. The queue is epic unless you take your chances at the bar. It's survival of the fittest here in order to get a spot. We did, and it paid off. The sides were delicious: a naughtily buttery, warm biscuit that my thighs won't be thanking me for but more than satiated my instant gratification; creamy mustard cabbage; and sweet and spicy cumin maple yam. The fried chicken biscuit sandwich was also a winner. Service was great. The fifth star was lost because at the end of the meal, my bag and scarf (on the floor next to our stools) were soaking wet from their drain or dishwasher which was leaking. The server was very helpful but said that this happened frequently. In that case, perhaps there needs to be a sign, or they shouldn't sit people there, or they should call a plumber?!

Chris Underhill

lives up to the hype. the radicchio salad and wagyu steaks were incredibly. excellently done

Nicole

The radicchio salad is the best. I was hesitant about this place at first. I thought it was the typical trendy restaurant. The food is really good and the staff is nice. I will definitely be returning.

Brandon Wilson

Whenever I visit Portland, I make sure to get a hotel that's within walking distance of Tasty n Alder. The sensational flavor of their dishes are the kind that will abruptly interrupt a conversation with how delicious they are. We last ate at one of their tables outside, and I didn't even care that it started raining on us midway thru our breakfast. Trust me folks, this kind of food is bucket list material.

Guy Hartstein

An enjoyable breakfast for sure, but a bit too greasy for my liking. The biscuits came with high fat butter and the eggs were dripping in frying fats. Even the French Toast, which was outstanding, had something reminiscent of Devon clotted cream on it that was fatty as well. The service was quite nice and I’m sure this is one of the superior breakfast places in Portland.

Omer Raviv

Service was nice. Food was, plainly, quite horrible. Have never seen such an obvious "Emperor's Cloths" situation in a restaurant's reviews, ever. Risotto was the worst I ever had in a restaurant. Salad was the worst salad I ever had in a restaurant. Steak was over priced and maybe halfway decent. Every taste was exaggarated. Bad food. Period.

Elizabeth Wynacht

Started off with a "Power Block". The Restaurant doesn't seat until 5:30. Everyone waits in the bar area. I looked up to see bar chairs in the back, I took a step in the wrong direction. The host, literally spread both arms out wide to stop me and said, "I said bar". How absolutely awkward. I didn't know you couldn't get to the bar that way. Everyone is seated ay the same time and dinner is Family Style. Since we were on a business dinner, there was a hesitation about "ordering for the table". So when it came to main dishes, we all ordered our own. My end of the table kept it family style. Wagyu coulloute, duck duck potatoes, scallops, BBQ chicken all superb. Ended up being very fun and good. Only gave a 3 because of the first impression with the host behavior and an air that We are there for them. They aren't there for us.

Jon Parker

Food was delicious (as always) the chef's and staff really care about what they do and it shows! Portions were perfect size, IMO. Server was friendly and fun. Wait time was about 30min, at lunch time on a Monday. Not uncommon, for a restaurant of their caliber, in this location. Can't wait to go back. Keep up the great work Tasty n Alder!

Mehira Lozano

This place offers eclectic, delicious dishes boasting complex flavors and textures. Each time I come here, I'm always satisfied. The dishes are family style and offer great conversational pieces as you enjoy with friends and family. Come early or expect to wait a little. This place gets busy and does not take reservations. The wait is worth it. Enjoy!

Preston J

Came here for brunch. My group got the potatoes bravas, bim bap, Korean fried chicken and steak frites. All were really tasty and we would order again. But the one dish that was simply the best was the French toast, best I have ever had! (Runner up is their chocolate malt milkshakes!) Definitely recommend this place (and the French toast)!

Deborah Smith

My first time at Tasty n Adler and not my last! The service was fantastic regardless of the bustling pace. Arrived and ordered in the nick of time because the seats fill up quickly. I genuinely appreciated that the food included fresh ingredients, seasoned appropriately and my steak was perfectly cooked. All this goodness pulled together made for a delicious dining experience. I will definitely be socializing this restaurant with others. ❤

Amanda Muhlestein

We went here because we LOVE Toro Bravo (food/staff is sublime) so after having our anniversary dinner there we thought we would try brunch at Tasty -I have no doubt the food is delicious. We didn’t end up going there because of how rude the host was. I figure if the job of a host is to accurately represent the level of service of an establishment, this restaurant wasn’t for us (condescending + inaccurate timing of wait -said 40min and then called us 10min from that time at which point we just went elsewhere). I’m cool with waiting for a beautiful meal, but see no point when my first point of contact is serious attitude (and on a less busy afternoon -Friday no less).

Alvin Lee

This restaurant was recommended by a friend. It was our first time visiting Portland. We ordered the Korean fried chicken and pork schnitzel and both were delicious.

Sabrina Bhatti

Me and my husband stopped her for brunch during our visit to Portland. Delicious food! Highly recommend trying a few things and sharing

sheryl Dahl

Went on a Friday, before 9am. Was seated right away, home style service with shared plates. So delicious! On your receipt they include an area to tip the kitchen crew! Having been a cook I appreciated that! I will be back!♥️

Vivek Venkataram

Caught up with an old friend while in town. Great service, food, and atmosphere. Will be back!

Paul Cheong

Great food at affordable prices. The wait can be very long so make sure to go when they open to put your name down.

Mark Steele

Service here was phenomenal. Everyone was over the top friendly, proactive and engaging. They knew what I wanted before I did. Staff was working hard too. Menu wasn't as exciting as I was hoping for, but what we had was excellent and well presented. Any place to have several Sherry offerings by the glass makes my heart warm. Restaurant was packed late, as a place like this should be. Everyone knew their jobs...including the operators. Well done!!!

Tyler Whitmore

Grabbed a bite before heading to a Timber's game. Didn't get to try the full menu since we sat at the bar. We weren't disappointed though with the happy hour menu. The steak sandwich was to die for

Thaddeus Bouska

Great breakfast food, and top notch bartenders. Plates are meant to be shared, which actually works perfectly for brunch because you can have a bit of french toast, but of sausage, potatoes, biscuits, etc. It gets a bit busy, but the vibe is very airy and easy. Left happy!

Morgan A

Really enjoyed the brunch menu. Love that we can try lots of things and not be overwhelmed with food. Brunch tapas.. the perfect thing when you want sweet and savory!

Kathryn Walkington

Went for brunch. Didn’t stop talking about the food for the rest of the day. Get the Bi Bim Bacon and Eggs - couldn’t recommend anything more. The service was also great.

Shelly W

So the food here is awesome. It's just impressive with all the flavors and presentation. HOWEVER, It is unbelievably EXPENSIVE! My husband and I had a breakfast tab of $90 after tip! We also had 3 drinks total...but are you kidding me?! Made the food not taste as amazing after paying that bill. Also didn't like how everything on the menu was so difficult to figure out. Bloody Mary's were tiny and less than met our expectations.

chrizdanielz

What more can be said about T&A that hasn't already been said? Probably nothing. We went for Sunday brunch after a long night of drinking, eating tacos, and playing piano in the Kimpton Monaco hotel lobby. At 9:30a there was only an hour wait for a two-top. We snagged a spot at the counter and was on our way to properly nursing a mini hangover with water, green tea, a Pilsner, coffee, and a screwdriver. Oh, we got food too! I'm sure dinner time is similar in terms of wait times, but the key is DO NOT GO IF YOU'RE IN ANY KIND OF RUSH. And seating here is pretty limited, too. But your patience will be rewarded by some of the best comfort food in town. T&A (and Tasty n Sons, too) is the kind of place I take my friends who visit to impress them! And then my friends always think I'm a cool Portland person in the know.

Jeremy R.

Excellent carnivore-friendly food, great staff, prompt service. Solo dining on a work trip; this place made me very happy

Carlos Gonzales

you can tell with each bite how much effort the chefs put into it. The wait can be long and the smell of steak can drive you crazy... the portions are small for the price but its part of the fanciness i suppose

Jonathan Willden

I only had the burger but it should have been a better burger for that price

Abdul Fitouri

High quality, 3 dollar signs pricing. Great flavors, but a bit on the heavy side if you like light food. They dont skimp on the flavor so you can expect robust usage of flavor inducing ingredients like cream and butter.

kajeme murrieta

Really good place and good food the servers are nice and helpful. Recommended

Kevin Woods

This place is amazing. There is no parking lot but they have a pay parking lot down the block and plenty of metered street parking. The venue has a very pleasant, cozy, family friendly vibe to it. Feels like I was in a log cabin. I heard the meals are supposed to be served family style but I am selfish and kept all of my food to myself. I ordered the Korean fried chicken. That dish was fried to perfection and had the perfect balance of sauce for sweetness and spicy. The other person ordered a salad that was loaded with thick bacon. The bacon was so good. I will be back.

Fraeulein Michelle

Tasty yes, Healthy not so much. There was basically nothing green on the menu, everything was heavy and overwhelming. They tout this to be a family style sharing restaurant, however I found it was rather a cover up for not being able to serve in order and on time. The plates where not specifically shareable. Everything tasted good but I felt bloated and fat afterward. Would I recommend it? Probably not for anyone who is interested in tasty and healthy. Pretty expensive too.

Joe T

The wait for a table was a bit long, but the food was great and the staff was friendly

Jack Nguyen

Went to this place on recommendation from a friend. The food was good but just a bit over-priced. Some dishes took a little long to come out. Half of our group had finished eating before one person got his food. Seems really popular though so call ahead if you can because the wait can get kind of long.

Michael Klessens

1 hour wait on a Tuesday, but able to find a place nearby for drinks while waiting. Totally worth the small delay! Started with smoke and mirrors cocktail which was really nice. Goat cheese dumplings were the bomb. Slightly spicy and savory. So many tasting sounding items to follow up with and we choose the lamb t bones. Wow. The mint sauce just made the dish. Perfect spices and perfect med rare. We added the duck duck potatoes...highly recommend these delights. Good service, amazing food, really nice cocktails. And it was reasonably priced for the quality.

Daniel Porter

A variety of well crafted dishes, drinks, and excellent staff make this one of the places in town.

Jacqueline Pak

Wow this place has a very long wait. We waited for about an hour to be seated. We took the time to walk around the area. My boyfriend and I shared Auntie Paula’s French Toast, Bim Bop Bacon & Eggs, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, and Fries. They were all delicious! The service was very friendly. The food came out slow but they were extremely busy so that made sense. I would come back here and hopefully we can catch it at a slightly less busy time.

Miles Lester

Incredible flavors, great bartenders, well rounded craft cocktail menu, nice decor, light chairs (huge plus), service staff really gave a $&@#

Elizabeth Riley

Off the plane and straight to it! Wish I had a bigger stomach. I would have eaten more. The Korean fried chicken was incredible. The doughnut in brulee creme was melt in your mouth delish.

Melanie Transparenti

Second time eating here in 3 years. Food is always very good and creative. A little pricey. Great beverage list.

Jonathan Hancock

Had a bit of a wait to get in even though I was alone, but it was well worth the wait! Best steak I've ever had, and the staff was super attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the food. They also have Mexican Coke instead of regular Coke, which is awesome

Zack Tenaglia

Few selections and a pretty loud atmosphere. Seems like they tried to fit as many tables as physically possible, so you feel a little close to those around you. Service was great and waiter was knowledgeable about the menu.

Victor Woltemath

We had some fantastic food while we were in Portland, but this place was our favorite. We had dinner there our first night and it was nothing less than outstanding. Service was perfect. I highly recomend the Gaucho ribeye, grilled octopus, and the radicchio salad. We were able to get seats with only a 10 minute wait at 5pm on a week night. We will be going back for sure.

Regina Paltis

Delicious, creative menu and good service. Must try the ricotta pancakes and the "whole duck" which doesn't have any duck in it.

vanessa hill

Delicious food! Interesting touches had us looking under our plates for more quotes :) Definitely pop by for breakfast! The milk shake and fries are YUMMY

Mitch McKennamins

Solid happy hour, but a bit pricey.

Sindy Lau

My most memorable dining experience ! Everything was perfect! The food, ambience, service... A reason to go back to Portland <3

Christopher Widmer

This place is excellent. By far my favorite place to eat in Portland. I've been here for both breakfast and dinner any thought both were excellent. Usually a pretty long wait here though, so come early.

Jason Valls

Delicious food. Nice and friendly staff. Family style works with everything you order. Get there early the wait can get long.

John Weirick

Flavorful and filling food, comfortable and modern environment. Brunch spicy potato skillet and grits/pork dish were quite savory and satisfying. Bit pricy for the substance, but nice environment.

Niladri Banerjee

One of my favorite places for brunch. Be patient since queue is always very long for weekend brunch. Got place at the bar pretty soon. Food is fantastic. Had fried chicken sandwich which was exquisite.

Charis Hadi

Awesome food, fantastic service, the food is a little pricey, but definitely worth checking out at least once. Tasty as hell

richard kalu

Very nice and an great experience overall. However, the waiting is long and the menu is pricey. I think it's worth it though. Highly recommended.

Shayne Allen

If you're reading this, you've probably read some of the other reviews. I did the same thing and noticed a common theme. "Loud, small, overpriced, good but not great" I found these themes to be true at my visit too. This location is ALWAYS busy once they start dinner service at 5:30pm. I find the check in process to be a bit rough and (to my knowledge) do not take reservations. This could be easily solved with a POS system upgrade. One that allows for online reservations and an online waitlist. If they were a restaurant who only got busy on weekends, I could understand keeping the system the way it is but frequent 45 - 75 minute wait times on weekdays demand some attention. They could also use a better space to keep up with demand but that would be a little more costly. The question on everyone's mind- is the wait worth it? Well that depends. Is your party 3 or less? Are you hungry but not starving? If your answered yes, wait for a seat. If you answered no, go somewhere else. The popular items are great but they are served family style which is meant to provide a slightly bigger portion with no side item meant to share. Here it seems more as a greedy attempt to charge more to provide a decent meal. Side items are expensive and main items all came in fairly small portions. Not quite a tapas bar, as the prices don’t support being called a tapas bar in my eyes. The worst part? The food is actually pretty good. You feel the soul of Portland slipping away and more of a New York greed start to infect the small, locally owned restaurant and it saddens me.

Cynthia Lepore

Cute place with good food. Served family style. Get there early as this place was busy even on a Wed morning. The Lemon Ricotta pancake was awesome as was the Radicchio salad. Sounds odd to have for breakfast but definitely try it. Order the smaller size vs the family size though for the best ratio of ingredients. Also had the potatoes Bravas which were pretty good. Star was the pancake though.

sukhybhogal

Customer service and quality of good both wonderful

Laken Richter

The food was so good and unique. The Duck Duck Potatoes and the fries were delicious. The portion sizes are perfect. The atmosphere was great and the service was wonderful. Everyone there was super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Tasty n Adler for a nice but relaxed dinner!

Chrisa TS

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. Brunch, lunch, dinner. The food is beyond delicious and the vibe is great. There is a wait but it’s definitely worth it.

Chad Schrock

This place will blow you taste buds away, and the staff is super helpful. All of the meals are served family style and everything comes out as it's ready so it is a one of a kind experience.

Jinny Hager

Well worth the 90min wait on a Saturday (1pm). The atmosphere was great, the food was sharable and actually perfect proportions so we left properly full. The polenta was delicious, even my husband loved it and he usually refuses to eat polenta

jen wang ly

Food was unique and good. Service was ok... we were told a table for 6 on a Monday at 11:45am would be a 35 to 45 minute wait but ended up waiting over an hour. Our food came at drastically different times and our sides came out at the very end. One of our party's entrees came after after the rest of us were finished eating.

Lucas G

One of the best meals i’ve had in a long while. Beef was perfectly cooked (albeit a bit cold), salad was perfect

Venn Wylde

In the nine months we spent living a block away, my then-partner and I jokingly referred to Tasty n Alder as our dining room. It wasn't quite true — we probably had more meals at a couple of the restaurants that were actually in our building — but the sentiments of familiarity and warmth are well-represented by the epithet. Here is a restaurant that has remained at the top of my list of must-eat places for visitors whose budget can accommodate it, where even after exploring the Portland food scene for years I happily come back multiple times a month and find that everything I try is amazing. For example: I'm not a big fan of fish sauce. It's just a little too ... fishy for my taste. But one morning I got to talking with one of my neighbors at the bar (where you can reliably beat the thirty-to-ninety minute wait for a table), and they told me I absolutely had to try these Brussels sprouts in caramelized fish sauce. Now this dish lives in the top ten on my mental list of things to eat in this foodie city. The usually funky tang of fish sauce has converted to a sweet earthiness that, together with the sauce's salt, rounds out the green bite of the sprouts in the way you might expect of a classic sweet ham or bacon Brussels preparation — and the sprouts themselves range from crispy crunchy roasted outer leaves to perfectly tooth-tender centers. Every dish on the menu deserves such loving attention from Portland's food-lovers. And the friendly staff and welcoming space are a match for the quality of the food.

Arthur Garcia

Hands down the best breakfast spot in downtown Portland. You have to get the cheddar eggs and steak. The potatoes bravas are delicious. The chocolate potato donut was great. Nothing bad here. They don't know how to make it not delicious, at least to me.

Tod Jetzt

Simply, the best! I will be trying everything. I started with the few vegetarian options due to my partner in this visit. Simple, flavour full, and hearty. I say Michelin star worthy.

Patrik Veith

Ate some really really good stakes. The meat was super soft and cooked perfectly. We had a really long wait though. So maybe you should reserve a table

Sophie Bower

My third time dining here and have always had a great experience . The service is always great. Really great food with out the stuffiness of fine dining. Whether going for a full meal or sitting done for drinks and some appetizers you can't go wrong. This is not a restaurant for groups. gkod for groups of 4 or less. Highly recommend

Gayfee Garcia

Visiting this restaurant is a must! Amazing food, great service. Love, love this restaurant so much

Adam Chevez

Was really pleased with the meal it was fulfilling, only downside was the biscuits were kind of dry and they didn’t have many coffee options besides black coffee. Service was outstanding

You Li

Food is a little salty but very unusual. I can see chefs making innovation around these traditional American food and did a great jobs. It’s a crowded but cozy place. I very much enjoyed it.

Michael Coffey

First things first: food and service were great. But this is in no way, shape or form a $$ restaurant. My buddy ordered a $27 wagyu beef dish and it was two slices of shaved beef. Tasty, but one bite each. $27 for two bites is not $$. I ordered the $26 steak frites which was tasty, but was probably around 4 oz. Again, not $$. People should not be mislead by the price on yelp or Google. Any restaurant that has a $80 T-bone option is at least $$$, if not $$$$.

Andrew Landis

We went with a group of 7 and it was great to be able to snack on a little bit of everything...... you will want to! Such great dishes. Banana bread, korean chicken, potatos bravas, chicken biscuit. Come hungry because it was all so good!

Hard Working

I usually don't leave bad reviews. But today it was unacceptable. We went to this restaurant at 9:05. People are in waiting line to be sat. The restaurant was slowly sitting people done because they can't prepare meal as quickly. This is totally understandable. However, I counted that there are 38 people in front of us, and we are a group of 8, so I'm worried that the restaurant will be full by the time we move up in line. I went in to talk to the employees and expressed there are 38 people in front of us and I am not sure if we will get a table. The worker told me as long as my group is willing to sit separately, which is fine for us, we will be sat quickly. So, we waited in line for another 30 min, and guess what, when it was our chance to talk to the host, we were told the restaurant was full and we had to wait for an hour even if we are willing to separate our group. It was frustrating and when I expressed that I was misinformed, they started to deny whatever they said. The situation becomes they didn't want to admit their mistake and in order to do that they had to push the blame on the customer and accused their customer was lying. This is behind bad customer service. This is very wrongful behavior as a human being.

I thought Tasty n Alder was absolutely delicious. I had the Wagyu Skirt Steak and it was phenomenal. The restaurant and service was on point, and very attentive. Although my Wagyu doesn't look like a large portion size, others at my table had very large portion sizes for their respective meals. The appetizers, including the baked beans were quite appealing.

No words to describe how tasty the food was!! If I’m going to Portland, I’m definitely eating there twice or thrice until I pass out

Can never get in here. ***UPDATE*** Finally persevered and did get a seat at the bar and then later moved to the dining area. Still waited about 30 minutes to be seated mid-morning on a week day. The food was outstanding though, fresh and creative. So even though it was crowded and we had a bit of a wait, it turned out to be worth it!

Food was good but the staff was rude to me. I finished my meal quick and left.

Excellent place to eat. One of the best steak places I've eaten in a long time.

It was my first time in Portland and ‘Tasty n Alder’ had come highly recommended by a lot of people. We waited about an hour to get seated which wasn’t too big of a deal, (there’s a bar down the street where you can get a drink in the interim) and once we sat down and got our food we were very impressed, amazing to try steaks in so many different ways, all of which were delicious. And to top it off, an amazing berry panna cotta!

Abstract: Goods: Great food, great service, and clean Bads: LOUD, long wait, hot, tight space First off, this food is fantastic. Some of the better food I have had in Portland. The steak was perfectly cooked, and I do mean perfect. I asked for a medium rare steak. I got a medium rare steak. In fact, it may have been more on the rare side, which is exactly how I want my steak. The sides were delicious. On our table of 6 was radicchio and goat cheese dumplings for starters. We then had a variety of entrees and for sides we had asparagus, summer squash, and the skillet corn cake. Wow.... just wow.... This was delicious. Now, the negatives. For the table of 6 there was no reservation available. We had 2 elderly individuals in their 80s who joined, and it was over 100 today. Even knowing this, they chose to deny a reservation with 3 hours notice. They claimed they only take "one reservation per evening, and it was taken." I was stunned. So, we waited for 90 minutes. Also, it was loud. Very loud. Not a single effort by the restaurant to buffer the loud conversations architecturally or structurally. The volume of the dining room was complimented by the loud open kitchen. The elderly members of our party had a hard time participating in conversation and hearing what we were talking about. I would absolutely go back, but not with anyone hard of hearing. It was unbearable for one member of our party. However, the food and service could not be beaten.

Hands down some of the best food I've ever had. The burrata salad was bomb! Every dish i ordered carried such great flavor and i waa really surprised at how they mixed their ingredients. Highly recommend this place.

Food was OK, but we just had appetizers. Had 2 and liked one (crab dip) but not the other (mushrooms). Service was also OK. Expect a long wait because this place is popular. They don't allow seating for dinner until 5:30 on weekdays, though they do allow happy hour seating.

We came to this place as it was recommended by a friend, and as soon as you get there you can tell it is a good place as it is always packed. The idea here is to share different dishes and they sure are tasty. My wife and I ordered 3 dishes to share and it was plenty for us. The quality of the food and the cooking is above average and we really enjoyed there.

We ordered tapas and everything was delicious. As always, expect a wait but it's worth it.

Other reviews mention the price per portion - I agree, they provide a perfect balance. Arrived 15 minutes early, before an incredible weekend-evening rush, sat at the bar enjoying happy-hour, could smell the bone marrow being prepared, was seated perfectly (tables seem harder to come by without a res) at the counter. Couldn't resist the bone marrow, went in on the goat cheese dumplings, and can't wait to get back for the wagyu steak!

Great food. Great service. The atmosphere was as loud as a sports bar without all the TV's. I'd 5 star this, but the atmosphere was no good. Also expect high prices and small portions. The quality of food justify the price, but this is not a place to go for just any old meal

Good service, decent choice of breakfast options! I liked the cream that was served with biscuits instead of the gravy. The maple syrup was peachy and the French roasts were made of very thick bread. Tasted very nice. The turndown was Korean chicken, which was overly priced for what it was, just the normal Korean flavored stuff. They did not have any French Vanilla creamer for coffee, just the regular half and half, whole milk, soy milk. Good experience overall!

Awesome brunch place. Food was delicious. Their take on Bibimbap was a winner. Steak and eggs were good too. Service was great.

We were disappointed... We had the Korean fried chicken and fries. The rice was not cooked properly so there were hard bits through out. The French fries were very dry and hard. They remade the fries but same result. The server was nice enough to take it off the bill.

The goat cheese dumplings were amazing!

Service was great, the presentation was good, but there was honestly some spice concoction that they use that I just wasn’t a fan of. Tasted on the salad and the porterhouse I got. Wish I went to a different steakhouse.
