Wonderful dining experience. Great PNW atmosphere along the river just off the scenic highway. Amazing classic comfort food. Check out the photo of the Chicken N' Dumplings. Restaurant was busy but we were seated and served quickly. The wait staff was amazingly efficient yet friendly and worked together extremely well. Restaurant is up for sale. Owner's been working there for 55 years. Hope new owners keep everything just as it is.

Yuck! I dont know why anyone thinks this place has the best dumplings. Its literally a dumpling, tough chicken & chicken gravy... thats it!, no vegetables, no seasoning, nothing else! Chicken so tough that you have to put it on a side dish & pull it apart. It's sad that people think this is good food.

It use to be one of my favorite places to have fried chicken but I guess they lost their cook that knew how to do it and couldn't find anyone else that could. They even took it off the menu for awhile. I guess I'll just have to settle for the best chicken and dumplings of anywhere I know of

Don't Do It! My friends and I went here because another friend had said it was "amazing". My friend and I shared the chicken and dumplings and my other friends got steaks. The gravy on the chicken and dumplings did indeed taste like canned chicken and gravy soup and the green beans tasted like canned green beans, gross! My friends steaks were so bland and terrible that they almost sent them back. The prices were ridiculous for how low quality everything was. The worst part is after we left I immediately felt sick and am now suffering the consequences of food poisoning!

Nice setting but held back by poor service and pricing. Hard to justify $39 bill for dumplings and no drinks when the food is wrong. First we got the next tables drinks, then one salad for somebody else before finally the correct salads got to the right table but with the wrong dressing. Nice patio but we'll not be back.

We had dinner there last night to celebrate my mother’s 85th birthday. The food was great as it is every time we visit there. Waitstaff was awesome as well. The Parking was the worse part of the whole evening, and it was terrible!

Amazing. I'm from the south (Kentucky) and I was only expecting an average bowl of chicken n dumplings. WOW. I was hooked on the first bite. Chicken was tender and flavorful. The dumplings...probably the best I've ever had. Good enough to make a southern mama fall over dead. The flavor was all the way through the dumplings, basically baseball sized, cooked perfectly and full of moist chicken flavor. Green beans were great too. Just like home. Oh, but there's dessert. Bread pudding. Another WOW. Also good enough to do the same thing to a southern mama. Super moist, super flavorful and the sauce.....total yumm. This restaurant was extremely satisfying. I apologize for forgetting our waitresses name, but she was great....informative, friendly and funny. Enjoy!!!

I stopped in while tracing along the shores Sandy River on the way back to the city from the waterfalls. Its nestled in on the winding mountain road in the countryside. The atmosphere was warm and Tommy did a great job of making a lone traveler feel welcome. The dumpling is in the name so I had to try it, I was not disappointed it was fantastic! Definitely would go back next time I am in the area! Well done!

Tad's is a 1940's Road House with a spectacular view of the Sandy River. The drinks & food are great, had the Chicken N' Dumplings...a treat. The soup was a Salmon bisque with sizable bits of Salmon. Have recommended Tad's for years, but you should see if they have seats available. Not that they are packed, but it's a great place to take a few friends +1 or 2...

Ambience was fantastic. Portion size was huge. Staff was great… it’s pretty lame they want to charge you $2 if you want to share an entree though… if it wasn’t for that then I’d have rated 5 stars.

This was my third visit and each time the chicken and dumplings have been consistently delicious! The restaurant and restrooms are very clean and the employees are very friendly and helpful. The view adds to the value and makes this a destination.

Comfort food to the max! Chicken and Dumplings to die for. Super friendly waitstaff. Went on Father's Day, so very, very busy. Parking sucks but the food is worth it. Great view of the Sandy River if you get lucky enough to get a view table. Love it!

I usually would give 5 stars, but this time things seemed a little off, the clam chowder was to runny and tasted fishy and when they brought out our Prime Rib the baked potato had nothing on it, no butter, no sour cream no nothing. The Chicken n dumplings were great as usual. Our waitress was nice.

The service is quick and efficient. The large deep fried prawns are plump and juicy. Of course, the green beans and ham are the best. You can't beat the scenery. Go before it's too late!

Had a wonderful meal here. I had the fried scallops, fresh and sweet, perfectly fried; not rubbery. Everyone else at the table loved their food as well. Did I mention the dumplings? Ok, so I am a Yankee, so I don't know diddly about dumplings (disclaimer), but I do know heaven when it is in my mouth. Doubt me? Then just take a drive over the Columbia River if you happened to be in the vicinity of Gresham or Wood Village, OR and let heaven bloom in your mouth as well. And if you find that your gandma makes a better dumpling... send me the darn recipe, PLEASE.

Went to eat with family. Atmosphere was good. Food was good. Staff was good. Would return. Would definitely recommend to friends. A lil pricey but competitive. On the river is a bonus though.

We did not eat here. We sat at the bar and chatted with Thomas, the bartender. He was doing an amazing job and was very personable. It is a very cozy environment. I had never been there. I can't wait to go back and try the food.

Cute rustic looking. We shared chicken and dumplings order. There was plenty for sharing and they bring extra gome made gravy. This is a must stop when in Troutdale. Sorry I didn't take a picture of giant dumplings

The food was ok. Very large portions. The dumplings reminded me exactly of my mother's from when I was a kid. That being said, just like hers, they needed a little more seasoning. The fettuccine Alfredo was a bit dry, but they brought me a bunch more sauce for it and it was much better. The clam chowder tasted worse than out of a can though... The service I would say was adequate. Not above and beyond, but it was what you would expect. All in all, I would say if you're in the area and very, very hungry you probably won't be disappointed eating here. I would not go out of my way to way here again though.

We've been stopping here for dinner after visiting the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon for over 20 years. The food is yummy and filling. Seats next to the window provide a spot to look out at the river below you.

Outstanding service and scrumptious comfort food at Tad’s. While you might think they only serve chicken and dumplings, they also offer salads, pasta, seafood, and beef dishes. Large chunks of light and dark meat chicken are hidden under dumplings that are like puffy pillows smothered in chicken gravy. One order will feed two people. Frankly, these are better than Mom used to make!

Honestly the service here is so genuine and kind. I love the perfectly intact vintage rustic decor. Every person I’ve ever talked to that has worked here has been warm, funny, and inviting. The chicken and dumplings are ENORMOUS and yummy. I went here on my first date with my partner and we now come back for birthdays and special occasions. Shout out to Thomas for the birthday brownie with the candle, you were AWESOME!

Pesto Chicken was good. I was there for a birthday dinner. Its not my favorite type of food but it was good. The service was top notch. Prices are pretty good. The drinks? AMAZING! My 2 gin martinis were great.

Honestly for over $20 per entree it's incredibly overrated. The food was like bland diner food, which would be fine if it wasn't horribly overpriced. The chicken and dumpling gravy tastes like cream of chicken soup from a can which I'm fairly sure it was...the one giant dumpling was dense and bland...and canned green beans were the side. For $20??! We asked the waitress for more bread (which was the only decent food item really) and never got it. Honestly overrated. Save your money, get better food for a better price.

Tad's has been a best-kept secret for too long! Nestled in along the Sandy River, this little spot boasts amazing chicken and unparalleled dumplings. There are two downstairs areas to wait if your table is not yet available. One is a small bar, the other an all-ages open air seating area. They have a good sized menu and a full bar. You won't have room for dessert, so get it to go :) This is a happy place to bring a friend, a date, or the family for a delicious meal out. Just heard the owner is selling after many years, so get in there, while the gettin' is good!

The same great food that has not changed. The dill dip for the relish tray is absolutely delicious, and that is always the dressing that I want to have on my salad, too. Party of three, and we ordered two servings. There were leftovers.

My wife and I have been coming here regularly over the past decade. The service and the food is always top notch! The portions are huge (we split a single chicken and dumplings and always have some leftovers) and their bread pudding is the best we’ve had anywhere around the globe!

Exceptional chicken and enormous dumplings. Original is soft n tender. Bread is fantastic. Water is sweet n cold. I asked for salad plus sliced cucumber n tomatoes. Very accommodating. House dressing was fresh. I do not care for canned string beans personally. Bit eat a few mouthfulls as the tiny ham bits are tasty n family fanfare...You can also order fried chicken if you prefer that. The view of the Sandy river is delightful.

Very cozy, good portion size, and comfort food. Always wanted to stop by after passing here during a river float on the Sandy during those summer days. At first, I thought the price of the Chicken and Dumpling seems a bit overpriced. So, I decided to try it out to whether it worthy of the $18 and discovered the portions were well generous. It was enough to feed two people comfortably. The green beans are very flavorful. My wife has ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and pesto. Both were pretty good. The prime rib on Sat evenings is pretty good. The only item that was a little disappointing was the Sirloin steak.

Great memories of this place. Unfortunately they changed their most popular dish! The chicken used to be rotisserie cooked in house in the chicken and dumplings, and now its frozen meat, verified by the waitress, it's just not the same, flavor isnt there and the chicken is tough. Bummer! Makes it hard to want to go back.

Go hungry. The portions here are large and filling. They're known for their chicken and dumplings, but the have so much more, including a really good selection of seafood. Yum. Ask to sit in the lower level if you'd like to see views of the river. This is an especially great option to see the sun setting over the mountains. Bob appetit

My husband had the chicken and dumplings and I had the fettuccine alfredo with sesame chicken. I must say that sesame chicken was wonderful. Everything else was good too. The service was friendly and good, and being able to set near the open windows facing the Sandy River was really wonderful. There was a nice breeze blowing in. It's a little pricey but worth the experience.

I'd been meaning to visit Tad's for a decade, but never found myself in the area at the right time until recently. The location and service gets five stars. It's a really cute place with a beautiful view. Go at sunset and the food won't even matter. If the food does matter it may be disappointing. We opted for fried chicken and chicken dumplings. The chicken dumplings was bland and the fried chicken middle of the road, more a three star meal than five. The smoked salmon chowder was delicious, so perhaps a deeper dive into the menu might turn up some tasty surprises. Worth it for an evening over the river and to say that, yes, you'd been to Tads at least once.

Food was good other than the chewy sirloin, service was horrible and 20% gratuity was auto added. Explains why the service sucked I suppose. The restaurant is for sale so the staff probably is affected. Always a great experience in past, but big disappointment for our last dinner at this historic establishment.

Tad's is DELICIOUS! Portions are hearty, especially their signature dish; Chicken and Dumplings. You will take leftovers home. Their housemade dill dressing is yummy! They have a great selection of wine, beer and spirits. Service is friendly and fast and scoring a table on the covered patio is best, the view of the Sandy River is beautiful. Guests typically line up 30 minutes prior to opening, especially on Saturday and Sunday. Worth the drive to Troutdale.

It was a good experience, and we were seated by the window so we got a great view. I had the chicken dumplings. They were good, but nothing special. I actually like mine better. It was just kind of bland. Some day when I have the money to spend I would like to go back and try the fish and chips but at 28.95, that was a bit much for my budget right now.

A super good place to eat at. We were a bit early so we were waiting for them to open and at 10 minutes before they open they had a line of people waiting! Great food and excellent service. My dad had been there 25 years ago and he said its just the same now as it was then. The waiters are on top of everything and do a great job! Would love to go back again sometime!!
