REVIEWS OF Sandy Hut IN Oregon

Cj Williams

Easy access, generous drinks, and clean ld school establishment.

Lee Nichols

I enjoyed my visit there good drinks and punkbikers?

Carl Pack

Cool spot, great food, drinks, and vibes!

Jim Kelly

For a wannabe dive bar that everyone apparently wants to go to, it is overpriced. And I am someone who needed a dive bar, I'm homeless!

Jenna Kuklinski

It used to be divier, but hey- times change. The Sandy Hut is the perfect spot to show up with a group of friends, or just hang solo and run into someone you know. Local bartenders, arcade games and relatively cheap drinks make this place a going-out go-to.

james standal

Great staff. The restaurant; unpretentiously pretentious if that even makes sense.

Joshua Stephens

Good food. Fast service. Super crispy onion rings. Seating outside for drink and smoke.

Mike Agranoff

Good for comingling and socializing at night, better for pool during the day.

dee cee

Super kewl little dive bar. Jess, the bartender was nice and chatted me up while making drinks even though she was swamped. Check this one out for sure.

Chris Knight Johnson

if you ever get nostalgic for drinking in grandma's basement, this is the place for you. its the vintage bunker dive bar experience that has me returning time and again. gets quite busy at night - i personally prefer the desolate feeling of drinking here in the daytime. very nice bartenders and great sunday brunch. i hope this place lasts forever.

Jess S

One of the last vestiges of NE Portland. Bartenders are kind straight shooters with good pours. Great bar food! Don't go there if your trying to get Portland street cred or a hipster circa 17' to feel cool. No selfies allowed, just be chill and enjoy...it's been here longer than 99.9% reading this post. Respect the Hut.

Rob Campbell

This is a nice little spot with good atmosphere and good service. The food also comes out quick which is nice and it is tasty to eat. They also had some entertain I'm ng movie on when I went in which is cool. This would be a nice spot to go by yourself or with friends. Definitely worth dropping in to check the place out.

Tim D.

Eh. A bit grungy.

Matthew Sulikowski

What fun theme! Great crowd!

Mark Hartz

Love this joint.

Tyler Campbell

Awesome staple!

Barndonn

Wow this place is awesome, I've been to a lot of dive bars in Portland but this place is by far the best. The staff are awesome, the food was great and the drinks are stiff and cheap. The interior of the place is retro and really welcoming. If you get a chance to go to 1 bar in Portland The Sandy Hut is the place to go.

zach j

Always has a lively atmosphere, a nice place to hang out with friends

Bridget Roberts

We both had a passion fruit margarita slushie and it was amazing! The atmosphere was chill and friendly, will definitely go back.

Crystal Bingner

Pinball and pool. Really great staff. Good crowd. Super fun dj nights. Photo booth. Affordable drinks.

Strawberry Tart

Dont really remember being here but the drinks were good (too good) and I do recall liking the bathroom.

A.C. G.

A bastion of Portland dive-bar life.

Tony Wright

Great service and Excellent drinks.

Mike Shea

Been going here since burnside skatepark was just a bank to wall . Never really lost its swag . It’s good to see old Portland still going strong .

Lauren Bittner

One of my favorite dive bars in town. Love the burgers and the metal music.

E.Dupree Lewis

Kool place

Karen Marie F. Reilly

Did not go in. Historically relevant so .. already like it

Beki Safar

Pretty cool little dive bar got nice pool table and some games

Jeremy Brochue

One of Portland's last great dives.

Blake Weekes

Great dive bar. Brunch is where it's at, never crowded at brunch time.

Brooke Green

So cute. Good food good drinks

Max Infeld

Reminds me of my grandma's house. Excellent.

Kent Lewis

One of the oldest (1923) bars in Portland has a solid happy hour, friendly staff, good drinks and flavorful decor.

Keith Thurman

Good drinks

morgan misener

Great people watching bar. Most nights the music is perfect (until someone want to play pop) and the food is good. They have put their own spin on the bar food.

Joseph Aaron Brock

Love this place. One of the last true dives. A glorious dark bar with good music and great bartenders. Hell yes Sandy Hut!

Brooklynn Z

There was a lot of people here, especially at 1:30am

Geordie Kelly

Kool retro ambiance. Wait staff freindly

Adam Cartner

One of the best dives in Portland.

morgan Taylor

Love the dark spooky mid century vibe, prices are good. Arguably the best veggie burger I have ever had. I really dont understand what it's made of. It's not that I tastes like meat, it just tastes really good.

Shane Shelton

Sweet dive spot has a pool table some pin ball and lottery. Suprisingly good pub food, beers on tap and a some decent outside seating

Umut Matkap

One of the best Dive bar in Portland. Pretty old style. Generous drinks and portions. Pool, music, vibe pretty nice. The only thing that I can complain is overcooked/ fried food .

Corey Branstrom

Classic dive bar. Vinyl booths, long bar, stuff drinks. It's a time machine, pinball included. I didn't have anything to eat, and was there early enough that a lot of light was coming through the glass brick walls, so I can't speak to the experience later in the night. There was already a bouncer, so I'm guessing it gets pretty packed. The coasters say it opened in 1923, so I'm hoping they'll make it to, and well past, its centennial. It's a classic.

Go Sounders

The sandy hut accidentally charged my tab twice, I went in the next day and was offered a free drink and a rounded up cash refund of the mistake. I left my name and number and the manager called me within a few hours to let me know there was money for me at the register. I appreciated their professionalism and quick consulting of my issue. I've since been back mutiple times as I live just down the street. My friends and I LOVE THE HUT

Thenext Best

I like the atmosphere. Very friendly. The food is good and the bartenders are very nice.

Eddie Hambone

Thanks for the good service and food

N F

Really busy place, but seating frees up pretty quick. Food is absolutely great. The onion rings were the best I've ever eaten, anywhere! Spicy green beans were a nice addition to the pork egg rolls that were good but not anything different than the norm.

Cassidy Fox

Nice little pretend to be dive bar.

Justin Merrill

Rarely does a remodeled classic Portland bar wind up better off. This is definitely the case for Sandy Hut. If anything the new owners held fast to what made Sandy Hut so cool, washed away the garbage and brought it back to life far more glorious than it was before. Embracing the kitsch and hi-lighting the quirks. The drink menu is classic and short, the food is great, no longer frightening. Although they cancelled live music (an oversold Dwarves show being the apex of awesome insanity in a stunt pulled by the previous owners) they have done a great job recruiting some of the towns best rock DJ’s and keep the place consistently packed. In fact, my only complaint is that after 10pm most night the wait to get a drink is brutal. Even with several bar tenders working efficiently the pressing mass of people just takes time to work through. In the end, this is another stronghold of real Portland. The Sandy Hut has been referenced by my Grandparents who haven’t been to a bar since WWII and I think is unforgettable with it’s bizarre wedge shape and extensive use of glass bricks. I’d also be remiss if I failed to mention it’s killer Bloody Mary’s and brunch for those who like to get down earlier in the day.

Joe Fortino

Dive bar

Amy Seeds

Had a fried fish sandwich that was fantastic! Staff was friendly. Drinks were awesome.

Lynda Guertin

Small cosy place with wi-fi

Heather S

Wednesday is prime rib day but every day is worth it at the Handy Sandy (you know the real nickname). A dive with outdoor seating for the smokers and untouched (except to be cleaned) decor.

Dan Trifone

An old school dive bar, that lost its dive bar charm.

Jeff Walenta

One of the better dive bars in town, their food is impressively good as well b

vinnie miller

I really like the shape of the building. The prices are decent and the food is pretty good. Service okay. Overall not bad, not spectacular.

D C

I work next to it, it seems to be booming

Justin Stoner

Great dive bar. Great food choices after a few drinks. Only four stars because it’s not Club 21. I want my tots back!!!

Nitty Gritty

Nice bar, door guy was cool people were friendly, food didn't look too good but I appreciate the atmosphere. What's up with the bartender tho just because you have long hair and tattoos doesn't make ya special buddy, work on your ego, yourrrr nottt thaaattt goooddd.

Dominic Vanoudenhaegen

First time here, friendly employees. Good burger. Will return.

Shelley Smith

Staple dive bar with 70's decor and *great* beer memorabilia. Fast friendly service

John Irwin

We walk over to Sandy Hut now and then to drink a couple beers, usually at a sidewal picnic table. It is an old well worn business but good enough for some beers and maybe some decent bar food. Usually some interesting charactes there to talk with too. A number of motorcycle groups seem to enjoy using it as a meet in ng place and on those days there are even more people to talk to. Always friendly. There is even a Voodoo doughnuts across the street.

Julia Wyatt

Just stopped in for drinks. Menu looked interesting. I really liked the pool table. And they have some outside tables you can drink and smoke at. Will go back.

Paul Iford

The Skinny Man burger is so good.

Matt Styner

Cool spot, it has a "70's party basement" vibe. The brunch potatoes are solid.

Bob Loblaw

I haven't been here in awhile, like 2 years, and all the changes in the old hood the hut has not changed. It is a lot cleaner than I remember but the em0loyees are awesome and the cooks have their s*** together because everything we ordered was awesome. Keep it up.

Jaimey Leland

Drinks were less than stellar. And the dancers.... Less than that. But every body gotta earn a dollar. Just every body shouldn't earn it naked is all I'm saying.

Trinity Wolford-Frost

Had great food. Service was a little slower but seemed like only 1 person in the kitchen. It was pretty dark but I guess that comes with being a bar

Carlos Chavez

Awesome bar with good food and super friendly staff and patrons.

Sean Dalton

Great old school dive bar

Huseyin Guler

Of you can go past some of the cheesy heavy metal pretentious thick bartender with an attitude, great joint. Pretty sure had the same bad service from the same lameo at Double Barrel.

Andrew Barnick

i miss the ratty old carpet but great midcentry atmosphere and chill af staff

Jay Meredith

If I was at a bar in 1976, this is exactly what I would think it would look like. Very dated, but adds to the atmosphere.

Lori Jo Orr

Love the vintage atmosphere, friendly bartenders, good drink pours, and done really good food! Fun place for brunch with friends on the weekend. $3 mimosas!

Alan Hammer

This is a great place to grab a few drinks and a bite, especially after a long day of work. The food menu is not huge, but they have some stand out items. The halibut sandwich is pretty satisfying along with the beer battered onion rings. The staff here seems fairly accommodating. In addition there is outdoor seating, a pool table, pinball and some lottery machines.

Lynette Dawan

Food comes fast and it's good. Friendly service.

Andrew Moon

a very cool place. don t fight anyone

eric fury

amazing staff & great customer service, especially on weekends! its got a very nice, dimly lit vibe & music is always on point! classic staple of the sandy neighborhood that really exemplifies what a dive bar should be! great prices!

Lexie Niemoeller

Diviest of dive bars, in the very best way. You can't exactly put your finger on the decade that the place was last redecorated, but it wasn't in the last 25 years. Grab a friend, and get a pint and some pub food and enjoy the people watching. Patio is good sized with lots of puppies too.

Claire Metcalfe

Great vibe, good music. They have a nice tap list. There are a good deal of picnic tables that wrap two sides of the building. They fries are stellar!

Charles Villa

Make no mistake, this is a dive, nothing more. There is shuffle board, there is a shitty pool table, there are lottery machines, there is Golden Tee, and there are drinks. Sometimes there are jello shots, which is almost never a cause for celebration. The bartenders have always been nice and quick. The memories have almost always been blurry. The jukebox plays a mix of decent bar music to terrible bar music when a girl who is drunk and has lost the ability speak (but not the ability to pick terrible bar music) picks terrible bar music. But it is fun as long as you are with fun people. Enjoy yourself!

terry eason

Cool old dice bar!

Andrew Hart

If you want service and are over 30 ,good luck, music sucks unless you're a metal head, try a bar that serves people

Onazio Shumate

Great onion rings and burgers

K.C. Thompson

Just for neighborhood dive bar. Prices have gone up a lot in last couple of years. Doesn't feel like dive bar prices anymore.

Annie Billman

This is a good neighborhood bar. Very unassuming on the outside but the inside has a great, unique decor. The food (avocado BLT) was good and the drinks were made right. I would go back.

Danelle Moore

Sandy Hut is our favorite place to end the night. Cool people, awesome music, strong drinks.

Brad Michael

Great little dive bar. Cheap drinks and delicious food in a fun and kitschy atmosphere. Outdoor seating is available. A classic gem! No wonder this place has been around since 1923. Seriously, don't overlook the food here. The Bourbon Buffalo wings are some of the best I've ever had, and the daily specials are no joke!

Buford Pippin

Friendly,Cozy locals bar serving good drinks & food. One of the oldest bars in Portland. Pool Table, and Pinball machines as well. I have been going there for 12 years with lots of great memories of the local & colorful folks I have met there. Many fun times!

Andrew Pikul

Is it the dark, windowless dim lighted bar? Is it the jello shots? Is it the shuffle board? Is it the diverse group of people, from hipsters to old locals? It has to be a a mix of all of those factors because this is a great dive bar with a great bar staff and an amazing jukebox. The sum of the parts? A great, great time.

tfrc pfx

Awesome staff and killer drinks

Travis Konold

Great atmosphere

Christopher Broderick

Great dive, this place will live forever

mark nicholas

Rad dive bar in Portland. All the old school beer decor is super cool, good drinks and some tasty bar food too.

Lilith LaVoisin

Fantastic dive bar, great jukebox, bar staff are bada$$. Definitely worth a visit! Didn't try the food, but it smelled and looked delicious coming out of the kitchen.

Faye Lundberg

Diveyish bar with way above average bar food. My Cesar salad was really good and my friend said his chicken club sandwich was great. My Mac and cheese was a little grainy but still had good flavor, so it could have just been an off night for the Mac and cheese. Drinks are made well and the staff is not super attentive but are really friendly and fast when you get there attention.

Jake Hagan

Great Portland dive bar! Delicious food and fun atmosphere!

Katina Dritsas

No wait staff, only bartender. Tough getting waited on when she is visiting with boyfriend & friends. Music is VERY loud, so loud it's hard to hear others at the same table.

M.K. Hobson

Came to this iconic Portland spot for "brunch" the other day. At Sandy Hut, "brunch" means the food you put in your stomach underneath all the booze you intend to pour on top of it. Thus, the food is pretty much the kind you'd expect to serve that function. My friends and I had the steak and eggs, hangtown fry, and the spicy shrimp and grits. All were perfectly adequate to the task of buffering the spicy bloody Marys and cheap mimosas we drank. The staff consists of mostly-friendly, highly efficient, tatted individuals who are cooler than you. It's a great place to kick off a weekend bender, or recover from a Friday night hangover.

Tim Myers

Love the Sandy Hut. Food is way better than it should be. Good stiff drinks and good service.

Jean-Luc Aguirre

This has so much history in my life and has changed alot too. The sandy hut is an awesome dive bar and one of my favorite ones in all of Portland. Lots of characters, loud busy place, good music, without the nasty dive bar smell

Nick

Sandy is one of my go to bars to chill and converse on the weekdays. It doesn't look like much from the outside. My friend visiting out of town didn't even want to go in because it comes across as a shady desolate gas station at night, once he stepped in though he felt the magic. It's a bit nicer than your average dive bar and has that bit of quirky flair so you know you're in Portland.

Patrick Franceschi

A really packed dive, but really enjoyable nonetheless! XD

J Wethington

Dive bar with all the glory that comes with that title. Great spot.

Parker Gokey

Drinks at noon

Jessica Kuhn

prime rib dinner is hard to beat

Bobby Hansen

Everything started out really good but when we ordered our food another bunch of people came up ordered their food got it before us and then they told us while you're the next order up totally a failure by your staff they don't know how to run a bar they were nice at first but then they didn't check on us at all so I don't know what you're running there but this is kind of bullcrap thing to do to somebody that's new to the area and wanted to have a great hang out to go to wish I could say something better but this was not a very great experience

Juniper Worden

Good, dive-y, strong drinks. They have video lottery and sell cigarettes- lots of outdoor seating

Chris L

I just stopped in for a beer after climbing, but I enjoyed it. Good vibe, outdoor seating. I had the buffalo wings and they were tasty.

Kieran McCreedy

One of Portland's kitschiest dives. A true classic.

Matthew Spohrer

Cool place, good eats.

J2 Gmailer

Old Portland charm with upgraded food. A trailblazer in the Post-Dive Bar genre.

Destiny Covington

Nice vibe, excellent bar staff, nice mix of people. Old Portland still exists.....pleasantly surprised.

Wesley Wallace

Best dive in Portland

Patrick Genna

Went there to eat but menu item was not available. Very dark. Poor lighting, but realized. ..that this restaurant is basically a bar for folks to hook up. Left after a few minutes.

Chris Nelson

The best, never change Sandy!

david miller

Chill place straight out of Twin Peaks. I love the onion rings!

Rocky Layton

Great place to hang out on the patio after a long day of work.

Moriah Hilden

Metal music, Rainier on tap and Lumpia... Mhmm. That's why I come back and back again. Sandy Hut also serves Brunch on the weekends!

Julie King

Great prime rib dinners Wednesday's and really outstanding bartenders. Hidden in plain sight.

Moto Ronin

The Hut is Portland parlance. This venue is steeped in Northwest skater and hipster lifestyle. Great location for people watching and opportunity to imerss oneself in Portland's favorite pastimes. Decent food, attentive servers and whole lot of Spirits. Add this one to your bucket list. Oh yeah be sure to check our the litho mural on the back wall. Bet you can't name all the celebrity characters on the wall. Loser buys next round! Enjoy.

Tim Reha

Kari Kelly

Great dive bar...Stiff drinks and dirty rock and roll.

John Lambert

Cool bar. Good drinks and good food. Surprising for this little place but it has been around for a long time. Very reasonable prices also.

Katie K

Best chi chi in town!

Jess

Divey sportsy bar.... Fast strong bartenders. Great spot to grab a drink and catch up with friends... Jaden is AMAZING!!!!

Jim Heffernan

As the old dive bars disappear, you'll be happy to know that this one is still here - and it's been restored to its former glory while still being a comfortable place to hang. Really good late night food

Bronson Myers

I got wasted on tall boys and jello shots and then ate the best fries I've ever had in my life.

Brent Bowden

Classic Portland dive bar. Music leans towards hard rock and metal. Decent food menu as well.

JJ Calzadillas

Great food and atmosphere!

morgan greer

I love this spooky little time capsule cave. Dark, feels like cigarette smoke should be floating through the air, underappreciated vinyl booths and vintage light fixtures. Surprisingly good vegan food. Limited beed selection.

Robert Tyska

Stiff drinks and cool atmosphere.

Jeffrey Moore

pretzel and cheese mixed with beer is all ways good, Wednesday nite ...awesome heavy metal the two guys running the bar, awesome dudes!

David Prescott

The place has fine bartenders with extremely tight pants. Perfect for two wild & crazy guys looking for chicks!!

Nancy Cordova

Super cute inside! The drinks were stiff so be prepared

Robert L

This is an authentic Portland institution. 10 years ago it was delightfully seedy. Now, its cleaner, the food is WAY better, and the clientelle hail from the surrounding condos rather than the gutters of old Portland. Here's to hoping for at least another 10 years of Sandy Hut fun!

Lark Ismail

Love it. Love the enterior. Love the vibe. Cheap mimosas. Great brunch.

David Araya

Happy hour deal is legit 5 bucks for a iPa is awesome

Brian Cooper

Great for day drinking, and if you like sitting BEHIND a building? Boy howdy, you're in for a treat!!

Kathi Bruyere

Lumpia and sweet chili sauce, chicken club sandwiches and the home fries were very tasty and the drinks were popping! The machines were hot and it's totally worth a stop.

James Wha

Asked 2 turn up the music after l I put 5 dollars in jukebox. The bar wouldn't do it.That why 2 star.

J.D. Lingo

Strong drinks, decent atmosphere. A better place to end the night than start it, ya dig?

Kelsey H

Great local dive bar. Awesome brunch!

John Bishop

Be patient for a drink

Greg Anthony

Great burgers and onion rings, cheap beer and Jell-O shots

Keith Orr

Hipster dive bar. Decent bar food and better than average dive bar cocktails

Mike Kasper jr.

Nice bartender and good food

Sarah Maxwell

Old school dive bar

Arne Hartmann

Becoming more and more disappointed with the menu??With the exception of the Prime Rib!!..Happy HR.isnt very happy!:(...portions getting smaller and smaller!!:(...wahhhh-wahhhh..

Not Insane

One of Portland's few remaining great dive bars. Got cleaned up a few years ago without losing its character.

Caleb Schutz

Traffic is a beast to get here, best bet is to take the bus or rideshare. But the place is cozy, the drinks are strong, and it's a perfect meet up for a pub crawl starting point.
