This Restaurant belongs to the category of Indian restaurant.
Loudest Restaurant in Ashland. Tonight I ordered dinner but requested the bill and paid for everything we ordered before it was served, just so we could get away from this place. Seriously, I have never been in a louder restaurant. It was deafening. Who knows if the food is good? Who cares? The place is impossible. I can't believe they actually billed my credit card for this experience. More of the Ashland tourist-centric "get-them-once" philosophy. This place will never be a repeat.
New Indian restaurant with fair price and great menu. Tried it today and loved it. You would love it too. Worth a try and you won’t regret it.
Insanely delicious. Second time for us this week. We have shared and tried many of the dishes and sides, and I must say few menus can provide this many "WOW" moments! Gone are old notions of Indian Cuisine. Masala is fragrant, fresh, lovely textures, loads of variety, progressive... and at prices that make dining out accessible for the broader community. PERFECT addition to Ashland: health-minded, creative, ethnic, and DELICIOUS. Masala will definitely be a new go-to for our family. ♡♡♡
Great food!
Food tastes really good but very small portions spread over a large plate by much sauce (good sauce to be sure) new wait staff seem very new, not converting adjustments to orders - or dinner had no less than 5 major mistakes - the atmosphere is good, tea and drinks are interesting and good - place has potential Big!
Ashland has more than 30 restaurants that I would recommend to any of my "big city" friends that rave about food in Portland and San Francisco. This was my first visit to this place and it was outstanding. Affordable, good service, and the food was perhaps the best Indian food I have ever had. So, need to move this up my list.
Great food. Fantastic vibe.
Very good indian food! And the server with the black earring is super kind
The Bombay Sliders were great, but the paneer tika and lamb curry were just ok. The service was lacking, took awhile to get our order in and water refilled. It's ok, but if you want great Indian food Taj is still the place to go.
The food is authentic Indian with fusion twists. Amazing flavor palette with good drinks. The owners are incredibly welcoming and have done a great job with decor and ambiance. I cannot recommend it enough.
Good solid tasty alternative to Ashland farmers market American slow food standard
Enjoyed a very yummy dinner. The bartender spoiled us with some unique and delicious mixed drinks. Will be eating here again my next time in Ashland!
Yummmmmm! My belly was full and happy after my lunch with a friend. I had the Royal Thali so got to have 3 choices of entree, plus a spicy chutney and a delicious beet raita to cool it all down. My friends had the buttery chicken dish and he enjoyed it very much. Oh, I can't forget to mention the unique drink options too. I had the Ayurvedic hot toddy- delicious on this snowy day we visited, and my friend had the warm golden milk and was also very satisfied
I think it's great that they have an Indian fusion thing going for some of the dishes. Good and complex dishes to mix up the traditional Indian restaurant menu. Overall great food and I love that they aren't afraid to punch up the spice. The location is nice and quiet. Maybe the price is my biggest sticking point, but it's really on the fence there since the food is great.
Horrible everything
Cod fish n'Ballz*(chips?) potatoe balls w/chickpea' ,but i didnt kno potatoes had balls,Or fish..then i tried cole slaw sitting all by its lonesome ovr in the corner of my to-goBox.?@!?#*too hot OmG its burnin' the hair on myFeet !
The food and drinks here are amazing! Try the delicious rose lassi...
New restaurant with beautiful modern design. Wonderful food. Great service. I look forward to trying more dishes.
The food was fabulous. Good portions, spiced well, served beautifully, and a good value for the money. We will return soon and frequently.
Food was flavorful, distinctive and colorful. Drinks were even better, down to the smallest details like whipped egg whites, house infusions, etc. Great service and value.
So far im not enjoying this place. Too much fryer food. Naan was burnt. Why cant we just have good clean indian food? Too much "fusion" in my opinion.
Good food, friendly service
Was really hoping for greatness and got so-so. The garlic naan was pretty disappointing-there was a tiny amount of garlic ghee on top ( I don’t know how you even can call it garlic naan)and the dough flavor texture was just off/bland.
Affordable, authentic Indian food with a seasonal menu.
Great vegan options. Will come back just for the sliders.
Good food. Decent prices. Bartender was so busy, stressed and unprofessional she didn't look at us for 5-7 minutes. Her first words were "do you know what you want?". She wouldn't give her name when asked...she said she's had bad experiences giving out her name. Was being friendly only at "tip time". No management presence on a busy Tuesday evening. As a 25 year industry veteran, I will not go back. Too many restaurants with friendly people.
Loved the food and atmosphere. Service was great.
Worst restaurant I ever been. We were so excited because new Indian restaurant opened in Jackson County. First we ordered Papdi Chat, it was alright. For the quantity it is very expensive. We ordered 4 mumbai burgers, Vada Pav. When they served us vada pav, all breads for 4 vada pav were completely burnt. You can see black color of all breads and they still served us. We also ordered Pakora, if you pick up one Pakora, you hand would fill up with lots of oil. We returned Mumbai burgers and Pakora, they were not edible for anyone. We all were very hungry so We ordered matar paneer and Dal makhni. It's a joke when they give you those two curry. These food did not look edible at all. We did not return matar paneer and dal makhni but we did not eat anything. We returned vada pav and pakora and our bill was still more than $50. Service was great by two hosts. Think twice before you go to this restaurant, it is total waste of money.
Phenomenal food. Best Indian food in the valley.
Great Indian food, good ingredients, nice casual upscale atmosphere, and very affordable prices.
The food here is exceptional! I could eat the lamb sliders for every meal. I've seen other reviews stating portions are small - we didn't find that at all. Note that the "Street Food" menu is small plates/appetizers with prices that match (mainly $3-$5). We got an assortment, plus a Masala dish (a lot of food) and loved the Kumud's Energy Sprouts salad. It's not a quiet space, but never has been, but the restaurant was full and we had 5 at our table and had no trouble hearing each other. Can't wait to go back!
Some of the finest Indian food we've ever had. This place is right up there with the best Bay Area Indian restaurants at prices that are extremely reasonable. Service is excellent, as well.
Fantastic food, service and location. Great portion sizes too. Highly recommend.
Noise level was high for my taste. I ordered the fusion fish & chips, thought the portions were small compared to what other items I saw coming out of the kitchen, and a bit over fried. Still may try a 2nd time.
The food here is amazing! Large portions, amazing flavor, and inexpensive. Not to mention the atmosphere and staff are wonderful. I cant wait to come back.
Very nice atmosphere and did! Our waitress was very attentive and made our exotics really enjoyable. This is a great place for unique cocktails and some interesting fusion dishes like the Punjabi fish and chips. If you just want Curry, maybe stick to a local buffet for value, but this place is really nice for a special occasion and curry was quite nice. Overall a lovely experience finished off with their delectable, dense, chocolate cake.
The food is amazing... Lots of gluten-free and vegan choices!
Good food. Server was OK.
Excellent food, friendly staff
I so badly wanted to LOVE this place. I was so excited to have another Indian restaurant in town, having spent a bunch of time in India. And a lot of it I did love. The place is bright, the server was funny and helpful, and the flavors were delicious. The drawback was that my dinner was so small that I felt like I needed to go home and eat another dinner. I ordered the Maharaja bowl and when it came it almost seemed like a joke version of itself. I think it had three tiny bites of chicken in a tiny bowl of white rice. It seemed like a perfect portion for my 4-year old---like something you would order for $4 off a kids menu, not like the $10.50 dinner that I was hoping for. Again, tasty and friendly and worth a try for sure...I just hope they get larger bowls.
There was no indian taste in the food!!!
I sampled this as part of the "Taste of Ashland" event on April 28, 2019. The "Indian Nachos" were so good, bursting with flavor! Their lamb curry on naan, was also very delicious, very yummy!
Not well versed in Indian food but I know what I like and I love the food here. Worth your time.
Went there for the first time with a friend, and just about everything went wrong: friend's food was brought out cold: I asked for no hot spices, and got a VERY spicy meal. They replaced it when I asked, but it was clear the kitchen put the same spice level at the bottom of the bowl, and just put a layer of not-hot on top (I couldn't eat it, once I got to the hot layer, so I took the leftovers home to my husband, who has a high heat tolerance, and even he found it remarkably spicy), and they served one of us the wrong nan. Although the waitress was nice and somewhat apologetic, I would have felt much better about the whole experience if they had offered to take charges off our bill. When I called later to give that feedback, I was told the owners weren't available, so the employee on the phone heard me out and wasn't (I felt) very responsive. She said, "I'll let the owners know, and see if they want to change the policy". I had really hoped to hear, "Wow! I am so sorry. What can we do to make it up to you and - hopefully - bring you back in the future?" Not even close. They've now lost two local customers (who will tell lots of others) with what I believe was pretty poor customer relations, as well as a very disappointing meal. Back to Taj for us, even though the wait staff isn't very personable. They do, however, get the food right...
Delicately balanced spices. Amazing rose lemonade. Excellent variety of street AMD fusion foods. Lovely servers, bright and welcoming.
I've had samosas in a bunch of places around the country... these are by far the best. Atmosphere - excellent. Cozy, relaxed enough to do homework at the bar, but upscale enough for a date night. Beer and beverage selection, curated and on point. Prices are very accessible, especially for from-scratch food. Servers are a definite asset to the place. My new favorite spot!
Terrible Terrible Customer Service. Our Order Wasn't Complete and Somehow That Was Our Fault. I was told there wasn't anything they could do about it so if we needed anything else to call back. BYE
Authentic, delicious menu and cool vibe. Every time we get the bill we are amazed... so affordable. We love Masala and we appreciate all of the heart the local owners pour into this sweet little spot.
I was reborn here
Delicious little nook. Drinks are yummy, food is excellent.
Wonderful Indian food, great cocktails, wonderful service. One of our favorite places to dinner as a family!
Absolutely love the vibe in there-very upbeat, good food, and our server Leah was wonderful. In fact, the entire staff was great. We are looking forward to our return!
Nice restaurant, good food . I had the veggie kebabs and they were great. Friendly staff, casual atmosphere , bar and orders to go !
Vegetarian options,.
Never had Indian poutine? Try it! Good indian and Fusion style cooking.
Best Indian in Ashland!
Great Indian curries, affordable for 3 of us sharing, and some of the best and most interesting mixed drinks, I suggest the East India Company.
The food is very good but portions are small, I spent $20 on lunch and left hungry.
Very tasty food
Great food and staff. The room is somewhat loud but a normal conversation is still possible. I love the butter chicken.
Either it was an off night or this place is losing the magic it had when it opened less than a year ago. Ordered a mustard fish curry that was all sauce, almost no fish, the flavor of the sauce poorly balanced. Salad was limp, salad dressing was no longer the wonderful blood orange dressing they served 5 months ago. I hope they can find the consistency needed for longevity.
Really good food, excellent service. The butter chicken is superb.
Amazing authentic food!! Everything is fresh, tastes amazing and is plated beautifully. Such a great addition to Ashland!
