REVIEWS OF Doug Fir Lounge IN Oregon

the Doug Fir Lounge has quickly made its way up the rungs as one of my favorite live show venues in Portland. intimate, cozy, and with good sound, i can say without a doubt that some of my favorite shows have been at the Fir. and they're always pulling good talent, so i find myself there on a monthly basis. they also have a nice albeit small selection of beer on tap, which doesn't hurt. i have heard that the food is good, though i've yet to try it.

It was hard to choose a rating for this place, because it is so many things! The food was pretty disappointing overall. It all sounded so good that I was having a hard time picking. I ended up choosing the gnocchi and it was so overcooked it was just mush and lacked serious flavor. The albacore dish was very salty and the person who ordered it wasnt impressed either. The roast dish however was delicious, we helped him clear his plate. The food description and dish creativity just sadly surpassed the actual dishes. I don't expect to be back for more anytime soon. The drinks were all great. Good selection of draft beers (mostly local). Plus a nice variety of cocktails that were creative and well made. The dinning room and outside patio were a pleasure to spend time in. Such a cute look and they emit a very cozy feeling. The concert venue downstairs was also well done. I could see it being tight with a large crowd, but the show I saw wasn't sold out, so there was plenty of room. Also the band sounded wonderful. So it's a great place to meet for drinks and to go see shows, but I would pass on dining.

Logan Jensen

Good food. Great whiskey selection. Friendly staff.

Scott Ingalls

Food was very good and the music tonight was excellent. Sold out show with FINK from the UK

Bruce Furman

Great place to see a show. We saw Mae perform with maybe 150 people in the room. A far superior way to see a performance over a stadium venue. We ate there too, upstairs. Next time I would get a reservation in the restaurant section otherwise you have to eat in the lounge area. I'd definitely go again.

Benjamin Adams

Excellent atmosphere. The clientele is eccentric and friendly. Always a great time with friends, and new interactions every visit.

Megan Gross

Love the vibe! The basement concert hall. So much fun.

Jorge Hernandez

One of my favorite spots since I turned 21. Awesome atmosphere. Great music venue, witha convenient on site hotel (the Jupiter). A definite must stop bar in Portland. Top 5 in the city.

allyson P

The drinks were great, the show was great. What a cool venue. I have been going to the Doug Fir for years for breakfast. This was my first time seeing a show. I highly recommend both.

Lucas Kerper

Great place to see a show or concert. Venue is located downstairs and has its own bar as well, and the upstairs has another bar and restaurant style seating on the north side. They bar has a good selection of locally produced Oregon beers and more, and good food too. Highly recommend music venue and bar!

Tony Willard

Absolutely awful experience! I travel a lot for my job and I have never given any establishment one star but after the treatment at this place I have revisited that. I went there with my elderly mother And the treatment that we experience was absolutely awful! We made no special requests or any requests for any special accommodations. The server was just completely rude, impatient and made us feel completely unwelcome to say the least. Do not waste your time or money at this joke of an establishment.

Miles Kishpaugh

Great food, easy Street parking & concert venue is cool.

Julian Lievano

Stylish place to visit. Love the decor and the porch. All the mirrors are entertaining as is the fire.

Rebecca Davis

Very relaxing good service and good prices

Thad Wilson

This place was a little odd. The sides of the restaurant that were open weren't really labeled and at least one of the staff members seemed to think that was our fault. Food was tasty but the service was a bit hit or miss in terms of attention. I'd be willing to give it another shot but overall not the best first impression.

Amanda Rico

Came here for a work party. We sat near the bar. The atmosphere was nice, cozy with the fireplace. The outdoor seating area was also very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful to our big party, even though it was a busy night. Good food and beer. We enjoyed ourselves.

Caitlin McKernan

Even on a packed night, we had a place to sit and stand and dance. Good priced drinks for a concert.

Genifer Wallace

Awesome venue. Great sound. Great outside patio. Great food, and great servers. Fantastic atmosphere!

Lily Flowers

First time visitor! My husband and I came for a concert. We were impressed! The atmosphere is lovely, the decor is cool, the outdoor area has a little fireplace, The staff was all super friendly… It was just really awesome. The downstairs venue is small and intimate, it was nicely air-conditioned, and we even found a seat along the wall. I can’t wait to go to the Doug Fir again and I give it five BIG stars! But there’s more. I was hoping that maybe the chef might read these reviews, because, sorry, we have one complaint. We each had the single Fir Burger for dinner. The fries were awesome! The burger was not huge, the patty thin, but was very well seasoned. Problem was, the bun was too soft, like Wonder Bread. The sauce made the top bun a little gooey, and the bottom bun was so damp with burger juice, it started to fall apart. The whole burger was packed with flavor but had no texture other than...soft. The lettuce and onion wasn’t enough to give it that light crunch you want. Consider another bun. That would make a huge difference. Or slaw instead of iceberg? I hate to say it, because we had such a good time there, but the burger needs serious help. A firmer bun and slightly bigger patty would really do the trick!

Darryl Parker

What a unique and fun place it was like stepping back in time. The food was good, I had the beyond burger my wife had a burger. Both dishes where we'll prepared. The bar was well stocked with a good selection from beer, wine, and cocktails. Went to a film makers after party once finished with dinner. The live music venue was exceptional. Great dance floor and lots of room for o lounge and relax. A definite stop when we return to Portland.

Kim DeChicchio-Sanchez

Great hipster-ish atmosphere. Really liked the design. & look of the place. Great service & good food. Music & comedy shows. Fun place to check out!

chrizdanielz .

5 star rating cuz it was exactly what we were looking for at the time we were looking for a chill place to chill. It was summer so we headed straight to the back where we were greeted with an open yet discreet outdoor scene. Benches surround a large fire with a variety of shrubs and trees bordering the patio. I'm not sure the food is anything to write home about, but we were there mainly for the drinks and a chill place to chill. Inside there's all kinds of nooks and crannies to cozy up in and just have a nice visit with your party. Doug Fir definitely made a great first impression on us so we'll be heading back again soon.

Scott Robinson

Great place to see a show. Unpretentious NW ambiance and friendly bar staff that pour a true, unmeasured, reasonably priced drink, appreciate a decent tip, don't look past your shoulder and make you feel lucky that they let you into their universe, and don't expect your first born in exchange. I have always enjoyed myself here.

J.J. Cortez

Great cocktails, friendly service, fun ambiance.

Jimmie Crover

Great excellent service food was pretty good they had a very attentive waitress the security was pretty good and they went out of their way to help the elderly which was a big plus thanks for the hospitality

Paco C

A cool spot to sit and hang out. Outdoor can get a little smoky, so watch out for that if it's not your thing. 2 whiskey sours and you will be appreciating their fur walls from a completely new perspective.

Kevin Phone

Went to a concert, had a blast, the lower venue is awesome and feels very open.

Amelia Jordan

The herb salad had anise in it, which so many people dislike, and they were unable to make several of their signature cocktails due to being out of ingredients. The server also forgot to put our very early appetizer order of Brussel sprouts in and they wound up coming out after the entrees. The server also needed to be reminded twice after asking to bring a straw for one of the people in the group and on a whole was not attentive nor did she remember orders. The fried chicken dinner was very good and I liked the cocktail I was able to order. I would give this place another shot.

Chrys Chabot

Been here on several occasions for business drinks and dinners. Nice ambiance and decent food and drinks. But its popularity makes it a little overwhelming. I have had many long waits for food, even on weeknights. Though many clients still enjoy it for its quintessential Portland feel.

Britt Vriesman

The concert venue here has probably the best acoustics in PDX. Staff is so nice and makes great drinks. Doug Fir is good stuff.

paul norberg

Best acoustics for small venue. Excellent staff, giving great service. Could be more accessible to less advantaged people. Needs work there. Otherwise great.

Lindsey Adams

Am staying at The Jupiter Hotel which is a highly advertised pet friendly property. I walked into the Doug Fir lounge immediately adjacent (again highly advertised on The Jupiter Hotel website) hoping to grab a drink and sit on their patio with my service animal. I was told by an extremely rude host that only service animals with papers and a vest were allowed on the property. I stated 1) he was legally not allowed to ask me if my dog was a service animal and 2) I in fact had papers on my person and 3) that it is not a law that a service animal be wearing a vest of any sort and yet I was still refused service, therefore they’ll be hearing from the civil rights division

Jopey Coffin

Last night was my first time at the Doug Fir, and I didn't know what to expect. Here's what I found: My new favorite venue in all of the Rose City! Fantastic drinks, intimate atmosphere, top notch sound, and an overall ambience and atmosphere that made for a very memorable and enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.

Dan Willette

Doug Fir can get it. Basement sounds good, back patio is usually entertaining. Brekky is tasty as well.

Josh Melling

Love the aesthetic of this bar, and the cocktails are great. Good place to see a show as well.... Mostly marking down for the creepy body cams staff wear, had one stand next to are table for awhile with a camera pointed at us, very uncomfortable.... Besides that food is rather disappointing,

Michael Stinson

Terrible experience! We had VIP 2 day pass tickets to the SunSquabi show. When myself and the gorgeous lady I was with were walking in she hit a little odorless vape pen upon entering. The bouncer got up in her face and was so disrespectful, by far the rudest thing Ive seen in my life. His wife must beat him at home to act like that or maybe just short-man-sydrome. We are on vacation! All he had to do was kindly educate us, not disrespect us. After we already had presented the tickets, they sent us back and forth from the ticket booth like a dog chasing a tennis ball. The vibe was gone and they ruined our night, we left shortly after. So sadly we missed both nights of the show. What a disappointment and waste of money!

Anne-Claire Weil

We ve seen Quantic' have some veggie and meat burger with french fries the staff was the best they change my french fries because too much salt in it it was so sweet ! Lovely 18 years birthday wedding

Sawyer Piwetz

Beautiful bar and restaurant menu, as well as a fantastic & spacious and downstairs concert venue - appropriately climate controlled too! Even with 75 people sharing a space, I never felt like I was going to overheat. Bar staff was quick and talented and friendly, food (tostadas and deviled eggs) was tasty and reasonably priced, and the staff handling the concert crowd was efficient and helpful. ... Just watch out for the mirror in the bathroom hallway.

Matthew Thogerson

Doug Fir has a great aesthetic and is most well known for their incredible venue where I personally have seen some of the best shows of my concert going career. That being said, the food is a little underwhelming - though if you're a veggie or a vegan you'll be pleased to know that they have the Beyond Burger on the menu. Ultimately a solid joint here in PDX, but the food is of Denny's or Shari's quality for roughly 1.6x the cost.

Jennifer Day

Only went because we were gifted a GC. Happy hour in the bar, service was great, price ok, bar burgers were under cooked tho. Not impressed, likely won't be back.

Husam Betto

One of the best places to visit in Portland. This place is great for group of people gathering and having fun. It's very cool place inside and outside. The food is pricey and they need to add more options to the food list. The staff is so friendly though

Elliot L

This place is hipster to the max, but it is a nice music venue, with a nice atmosphere and a nice patio. Food is of a decent quality, but I wouldn't really recommend eating here. Menu is pretty limited and nothing is really worth writing home about. Go to the Doug Fir to grab some drinks with friends or your honey, and see a show.

Rene Nichols

Stumbled upon this charming establishment while visiting from Minneapolis and we’re sure glad we did! Had some amazing food and friendly talk with staff and locals. Ended up back for a second time the following day for happy hour oysters, we love this place! Can’t wait to return someday.

Jay Smith

Pretty cool place, I never knew about it until this weekend... I had no idea that the concert I was about to see was In The basement (with a full bar)I thought I was going to the dog fir just for dinner... it's small downstairs but it's pretty cool for being down town.

Bill Underhill

Good drinks and good food. The happy hour prices are nice too.

Jeremy Orman

Picture and upscale diner with ambiances and a full bar and you have the Doug fur lounge. My date and I loved the oysters and I split the tri-tip steak. The oysters tasted fresh and the tri-tip and accoutrements were cooked to perfection.

Meg Giddings

Unique intimate atmosphere for a fun night out. I came for a free comedy show on the deck and ended up staying for dinner and another drink.

Stephen David

Totally cool juxtaposition of log cabin bar at a hipster 50s motel. Warm and cozy inside, airy patio. Drinks are good. Staff is a bit snobbish in their hipness but knowledgeable.

matt tichenor

Concerts and most food is beyond good. The drinks are great! The decor is retro meets modern. The staff is incredible. There's a hotel attached that's great! I had biscuits and gravy this morning and the biscuits were very very dense and not halved before the gravy was applied. The gravy was a bit salty as well. My friend ordered the avocado tostada, he said it was good but there needed to be way more cheese. First time trying breakfast, I'll give it one more go.

Tim Gregos

Louie Longmire performed. Sounded great. Bass player was alive. I think I was sitting next to "Blonde" herself ! She looked amazing.

Michael Davis

I've been here a couple times and every time I get here I get way too drunk. Not a bad thing. I'm not a sloppy drunk. Every time I go I end up having a great time with my friends. The outside Lounge at the fire pits is where it's at.

Jason Zerbel

The doug fir is a great place for people to see bands, get drinks, eat in a diner, and arrange for a hotel room in one location.

Jared Kauk

First visit for good friends’ band’s (Starover Blue) album release show (with Fourth Wall and Small Million). Grabbed a mezcal cocktail from the craft bar up top, on point. A new favorite Portland music venue.

Jessica Sandberg

Amazing service. Awesome food. Cool shows. How could you go wrong?

Simon Lolliot

Good beer. Fine food. Not sure I'd go back but I also wouldn't dissuade anyone from eating there if you're looking for a filling lunch.

Miss Andrea Apple

I absolutely love this place! It is very intimate and the stage is very easy to see from most spots. There are two bars I believe, and there is a comfortable vibe when the band plays. I like the fact that it's underneath a diner style restaurant/hotel. Very groovy, and super hip.

Skyler Johnson

The best music venue I've been to. The design of the space is great. Intimate feel. Spaces to sit while waiting for shows to begin. Lots of raised steps/platforms for tiered views. Feels like a Disney World attraction.

Jacob DeGraw

I really enjoy the ambiance of this venue. There's just something about the wood used in the room, combined with the mirrors near the ceiling that give this place a more spacious feel even though it's rather small. Due to the small size, it can get rather crowded, but I've never experienced it too crowded. There is a decent amount of seating around the edge of the room, but you have to get there early if you want to use it.

Benjamin Clansen

Doug Fir is amazing. Somehow every single night I go there's a show downstairs, and I don't just go on weekends. Great drinks, they pour heavy, fireplace outside all year round. Definitely my favorite place in Portland to meet up with friends and have a couple drinks.

Jay O'Brien

One of the best live music venues in Portland. It's like your best friend's space age log cabin basement. The sound is great and the environment very intimate. There is even a little seating if you get in early enough

Brandon Lake

Great bands and a great venue for good sound. Atmosphere is wonderful for the shows. Drinks upstairs are good, though I’m recommending this place based on the shows, food and drinks are 3 and 4 stars respectively.

Ben Malcheski

My wife and I were visiting Portland in the fall. We ended up here for some drinks one evening. The atmosphere of this place is one of the things I remember quite well about the trip and we went to lots of places and did lots of more memorable things. Of the restaurants or bars, it was so unique to me. I can't speak to the food, but it's Portland so it's likely really good and it certainly looks the part. I highly recommend going here for a unique ambiance and experience.

Bridgette Storey

Great renovation. Food isn't great, honestly and WAY too many hipsters, but the remodel is nice. The acoustics down in the concert area aren't ideal, but it's definitely worth visiting.

Andrew Conley

The staff here are unbelievably rude. Just asking if there are tickets for show will get you an eye roll, an expletive, and a finger point to the “sold out” sign. A simple “no” would suffice. Trash staff.

Ultima Quemesabe

Way too cramped and bar was understaffed for its size. The artist I paid for started 40 minutes late, I waited 15 minutes to hear there was a 40 minute wait time. I highly recommend the Thai food cart around the corner. Drinks were expensive and the pours (after tipping well) got weaker as the night went on. The crowd was totally dead and people were even complaining about the opening act being boring and going on too long. Probably wouldn't go back.

Bill Lehan

For all the hype I was not impressed with the food or decor. Looks like it belongs in the movie "The Shining"

Kam Dobbins

It was one of the best nights ever. Food was spectacular, no seriously... Stop whatever you are doing that you think is important and do something that ISSSSSS important like get food there NOW, right now. You will thank me.

Mike Hail

Great selection of liquor lots of mid to top shelf choices. Bartender was awesome and friendly. Great ambience and environment. Nice and quiet and laid-back during day but picks up at night

Marissa Berrini

Great Vegan beyond burger! Plus we had the best service that we came back 3 days in a row. Also check out the avocado tosadas. You can get them vegan style with tofu.

Lisa Wilson

This place is amazing! Never has a place constructed primarily of logs looked so chic and sophisticated. The structure itself is a work of art which, if someone has ever told me that a place primarily made of giant logs was spectacular, I probably would have questioned their taste. We went there for a concert but arrived early enough to eat in their very inviting lounge. The food was incredible! I had a delicious salad laden with goat cheese, strawberries and chicken but my husband's TipTop steak was the showstopper. I've never seen such a gorgeous plate of meat. It was mouth-watering good and I soon replaced my chicken with beef as there was at least a pound of it! Doug Fir is a great place to hear a band as well. It's a small venue, with a capacity of only 500 people so you're never far from the stage and the acoustics were excellent as well. Apparently, it also serves as a recording studio. If you get tired of listening, you can go up to the outdoor seating area, where there are lots of long lounge benches and sturdy tables to perch upon or put your drinks. And don't forget to check out the bathrooms! I know that's weird but the women's bathroom is like a sexy funhouse, almost completely mirrored and dark enough to question whether the door you're getting ready to try is actually a door or merely a reflection. I really dug this whole place and hope to go again soon. If you like indie music (seems to be the primary type of music-we saw Sebadoh) or are just looking for a cool place to have a bite and a drink, check out Doug Fir. You're gonna love it.

Fiona Simms

Great ambiance. The show I saw was awesome. We were able to watch some of the show from the bar in the back, and then make our way to the front for a great view.

Adam Knutson

I'll start by what I liked - I liked the atmosphere, the food, and the drinks. Very cozy and I got a Twin Peeks-like vibe from the interior. I feel like David Lynch would approve. The downside to this nice atmosphere is that everything is a little more expensive than I would like. It's good food but it's not "that" great. I can't comment on the downstairs concert room but I had heard it was just as cozy and they always have some concert going on. Overall - I'd recommend it and if you like it, keep coming back.

Genevieve Newman

Such a neat building. Loved the mirrors and wood. Gives it a really interesting vibe. Went to a concert here and it was such a intimate experience. Smaller venues are my favorite because you really feel close to the band. They had a bar upstairs and down where the concert was. Tons of fun places to sit and talk or just chill out. Can't wait to go again.

John Pockets

It's a really cool venue downstairs. The. Ar upstairs is kinda narrow and the line to order is awkward to stand in because of it being so narrow. Good selection of beer happy hour is good prices and outside patio is awesome especially by the fire pits

Matthew Edwards

Great food, very good service and excellent atmosphere

Candice Hansen

Solid drinks, amazing atmosphere, DEFINITELY one of the best venues for live music in town. The acoustics of the downstairs, walls made of huge Doug Firs are so very wonderful.

Madeline Scarp

The Dip played such an excellent tour-ending set. The downstairs space was cozy yet roomy. Great sound. Also kudos to the chill, non-agro security staff meant this gal felt safe but temporarily relieved from the police state we all live in. Don’t change a thing.

Robin Heater

Really good food, great place to go for live music. Definitely recommended!

Jaki Widby

Really fun venue to see a concert at. Chill vibe and small enough to feel intimate.

Beverlee k

We've been wanting to dine here for years. The cocktails were great, the dinner food however was not so great. Let's start with the fried chicken, cooked to a dark brown crispy crust. Yum right? No! It was a salt fest. Might as well eat a tablespoon of Morton's Salt. They obviously brine the chicken in a heavily salted solution then to top it off they salt it again after its fried. This may be fine for the 30 year old and younger crowd but anyone watching their sodium don't order the fried chicken. The tri tip was pretty good, not great but at least it wasn't salty.

Adam Eriksen

The Doug Fir is a great place to go for a drink with their indoor lounge and outdoor patio; even great in the winter with their heaters and fire pit. The restaurant portion also has a fun atmosphere, interesting and delicious menu, and nice views out there large windows. Last but not least, the concert venue is a great place to see any number of shows that they host. And to make things even more convenient, you can stay at one of their hotel rooms when you've had too fun of an evening.

adrianne crabtree

The menu for brunch on Sunday is very limited. I was with 2 other people and we did find something for each of us. It took forever to get our food, but it was good! It is definately different though. This is not home style cooking. Service was slow and it wasn't extremely busy. We did get comped $10 off our meal because it took so long. Decor was cool and it draws a trendy crowd.

Fabrizio Ricci

Best bar Iv'e been too in a long time ... Horrible bartenders but the ambience makes up for it -

Amanda Martin-Tully

The ladies bathroom alone is worth a trip. I'd never think mirrored walls could be anything less than terror invoking, but maybe that's my booze soaked confidence talking? Bubbly pink wines and mandarin brussel sprouts? Yes, please. Great as a date spot or honestly, hit it up solo and read a book.

Kilah Roberts

Friendly bar staff, great atmosphere, really enjoyed the outdoor seating and smoking area. Great place to grab a couple drinks and relax.

Jeremy Kuehl

Best venue in PDX, sound quality is great

Mark Miller

Neat place with kind of a lodge feel to it. It's attached to a hotel also, so several of our friends we were with actually stayed there overnight. The bartender was great as she dealt with our large group on her own. She mixed up some great cocktails too! It's an enjoyable place to spend an evening with friends... I would recommend it!

Devan Bond

Normally I would come here every time I visit Portland. The place is (was) famous for its hamburgers. The service in the past was, although somewhat unfriendly, but never rude and the food was great. I’m not sure exactly what happened, perhaps they don’t care anymore about their quality of food or service, it the server/bartender was a young kid and extremely rude and unprofessional. I do t want to copy his comments on here as they are just disturbing but all that was because of poor quality of food. Complained about it and the manager wouldn’t even come out. They just refunded the bill I paid. Shame... it was a really cool place...

Nicole Ellis

Great venue to see a show, fantastic, friendly staff, nice atmosphere

Josh Cook

Great music venue! Even if a band you have never heard of is scheduled to play, do yourself a favor and pick up a ticket. The bands that come through this venue always put on a performance that will impress! Favorite little venue to hear new bands.

Allie Moore

Decent spot for shows. It’s a nice clean venue with good sound. You can get a good view of the stage from most areas of the lower level. A warning to Canadians - they don’t accept anything other than a passport as ID so make sure you bring yours. Security was way too picky about people standing within 2 feet of the stage considering there’s no barriers or markings. Drinks are a little pricey.

Micah Jones

Restaurant with bar, outside drinking area with seating, as well a stage and another bar underneath in the basement level. Cool aesthetic to the dining area and soft lighting when I was there after 9 PM. The hotel adjacent it is built in a "u" shape around it, and the blue lights from the open air hallways on the second floor help blend it into the background of the drinking section and make it feel more spacious. I found the space so relaxing that I didn't realize the show I came to see had already started downstairs, a testament to how well the flooring was absorbing the sound. I'd say the music section could comfortably have arrived 200 people, though I wasn't exactly paying attention to that. Had a great time, would definitely return for a drink or show and maybe try the food out.

Allan Hardy

This was my first time coming to the Doug Fir Lounge, and I will be returning! The aesthetic of the whole building promotes a comfortable environment, while still offering decent prices on drinks. The show I went to see had just enough room for a sold out crowd, and there are no ridiculous security checks

Darryl McGee

Cool interior and good staff. Burgers a bit expensive for what you get.

Milo Clarke

The burger was good. The cake however was dry and flavorless.

Dana Vines

Excellent music, vibe, drinks...just wear a jacket this place runs a solid 10 below the outside temp always for whatever reason

Loris Johnson

Just saw The Accidentals!! Amazing show. Love this venue. Great food and drinks

Aaron Spiro

Good vibes downstairs for live music
