This Restaurant is classified in the category of Indian restaurant.
Fantastic saag, naan, and wide selection of other curries. Full bar and they state they will soon have happy hour. Reasonably priced and quick as well. Will be back
We really enjoyed Dil Se! Wonderful service and great food. It seemed a little pricey, but the food was well worth it and was authentic. Definitely recommended.
Must visit place for good Indian food.
The food was freshly made and the hosts were friendly. They even offered free thanksgiving desserts for everyone. My only problem was the food lacked indian spices and was bland. Would visit again.
Excellent food with friendly and knowledgeable staff. We will return soon.
Chicken 65 was great, NaN was fresh, and staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
Service was very good. Decor is nice. Convenient location. Food? Umm ... I order spinach paneer and a chicken and cauliflower appetizer. The spinach paneer was okay - I order that often at Indian restaurants. - completely okay, but nothing particularly remarkable. The appetizer was also okay. I had requested very mild and it was a shade hotter than mild. For me, that was fine, but I was sharing with someone and not so okay with him. Again, based solely on what I ordered, I probably won't return. Not because it was bad, just not that great. If I was with someone who really wanted to go here, I would. But, on the other hand there are so many great places to eat.
Good Indian food. Litter expensive. Overall had a great experience.
Food and service, both were great!
Food was excellent. It took forever and we finally had to ask if they forgot us. But they apologized profusely multiple times and credited us 50% on the bill. We will certainly go back to give them another shot on the service.
Very good renditions of classic Indian restaurant dishes like Chicken Tikka and Saag Paneer, with a few surprises like the grilled lamb chops (delicious). Portions are not tiny but don't expect to take home leftovers or split a dish between two people either.
Food was really good. Staff was nice and friendly. Portions where pretty big I'd say. Prices where more then fare. Even kinda cheap I'd say. Place is very nice elegant and cozy setting feels like a high end place. Food took at most 8 minutes to be brought out.
Best restaurant, gobi was awesome , service was too good ,will always visit when I come to Portland,
Great food, excellent service, and lovely atmosphere. Had the freshest naan bread, better than anywhere else. We will be back.
The first time I ordered take out was decent, but the second, the quality and flavor of the food were unacceptably bad. Running and no flavor. The butter chicken and palak paneer were soup with no spice. It was so bad that I would rank the Trader Joe's frozen choices higher than the food at this restaurant.
Food is exactly what I was looking for, by far the best Indian food I have had so far in the portland area. The owners are a very nice couple and the staff are great. My favorite dish was their tandoori salmon fillet with salad.
Didn't think I'd like Indian food, it's awesome here;)
Friendly staff and delicious food
Appetizers are good. Main course are bit weak.
Good cuisine,I went with someone who knows Indian food and they thought the food was perfect. I enjoyed my pineapple curry and dil se. A pleasant place for a lunch and conversation.
Best dosa is the U.S. Service and food is exceptional.
Loved the decore was serene, good presentation of food excellent food and unobtrusive service. Cost very reasonable. A few blocks from museum
My family and I wanted to try this place for awhile and we finally got a chance to try it last night. The food here is very flavorful and also the staffs are super friendly. I just hope that the food would come out a little early.
I wish I could love this place, but it was a bust. We walked in on a Saturday night and the place smelled amazing. When we were seated, we watched a couple who hadn't ordered yet walk out. A tray and dirty napkin was left on our table, and the server didn't bring us menus for another few minutes. We watched a second couple get seated and leave after not even been approached at the table. Meanwhile, a staff member of the restaurant in a t-shirt and on his cell phone was busy in the bar area with a professional photo shoot of the food going on- odd priority for a busy Saturday night. We never got water or a drink order taken in 15 minutes, so we joined the other walkouts and went to India House instead. We'd love to come back in a month or two and try again when they hire a proper host, busser and manager. hopefully service improves because it looked and smelled so good! :(
VERY GOOODDDD FOOD, VERY MASTH FOOD VERY GOOOODDDD GOOODD
If you are in downtown Portland and like Indian food, this is a good place to check out. If you are from India and in Portland, then this is a must go place. Just ask them to make your food spicy and it's just like eating at your favorite restaurant in India. Litle expensive but it's worth every bite!!
Excellent taste. Food is kind of fusion. Don’t expect Typical South Indian or North Indian food. I liked mutton kurma fried rice more compared to others.
Food quantity was less and little pricey compare to other Indian restaurants. We ordered paneer tikka masala and gravy was full of tomato taste as if i'm having tomato puree. Hardly 2 pieces of Paneer and 2 big pieces of red and green bell pepper (not sure if others like it that way but NOT me) and the rice which was served with it was just one small bowl (hardly one person can have it)
Really loved the vegetarian combo and my friends loved the chicken one. Good assortment of things and very affordable for what you get. Restroom is very clean as well. We were there for the soft opening today. Friendly staff too!
Very nice. Chicken tikki marsala was yum yum.
Awesome! Love rasmalia and chole masala
Best in Town. Always looking for a good Indian restaurant. Not the usual kept-warm buffet type Indian, but the freshly prepared, interesting Indian Food. I found it last night at Dil Se. Large and interesting selection of dishes. I started out with an appetizer of paneer pakora which was lightly fried, not greasy, creamy and tasty. Then I split a Dosa filled with lentil chutney, potatoes, spices and peas. It was amazing. My friend ordered chicken Koruma (Korma) made in a lovely sauce of coconut, cashew and almond and had just the right about of heat. The fresh spices shone through with every bite. A really good restaurant and so glad I found it. Will be exploring their menu more in the future.
The food was fantastic. The service took way too long to do anything, and the place was practically empty. They also never came around to the table until I finally had to wave them over for the check... Which took another 25 minutes. Again, the place was empty, and the waitress wasn't working double time in the kitchen or anything... Just standing around :/
Chili chicken is legendary. It's a must have. Lamb curry was amazing.
If you want to eat good India food , you need to visit this place. Nice veg & Non-veg menu. Only downside is there is no lunch buffet and small portions.
The portions could be a bit bigger for the price, but everything was delicious. Really good samosas.
The menu was varied and authentic. I was interested to see how the restaurant had changed since The West Cafe is gone. Actually not much is different, the bathrooms are Men & Women now where before they were unisex. The colors, the dishes, the booths, so much is the same. I miss West Cafe.
My family just tried this restaurant for New Year's Eve. This is by far the best Indian restaurant in Portland, and easily one of the best in the United States. The cooking is spectacular; not the heavy, salty sauces of most American Indian restaurants. This food is truly authentic, akin to the finest available in India. The owners are wonderful people: friendly, kind, and eager to please. I would give this restaurant an A+. I plan to come back with friends and on special occasions.
Dil se Good service at close time as well and good food
The food was excellent, the service was great, and the atmosphere and aesthetics were serene. I will definitely be back.
Delicious food...shared appetizers and entree's with friends...great ambience;great location.
Great food, service, and attitude. Especially like the eggplant (Guttivankaya Curry) and Paneer Tikka Masala.
Love, love, love this restaurant. Dine in experience: This is an excellent restaurant for experienced diners as well as casual diners. Plenty of food to go around. Quality food and rich decor, under-pinned by affordability make this a must-visit experience.
This is a decently good Indian restaurant. The individual portions are slightly less but the taste is good.
Dil Se is delicious! I eat here once a week. My favorite dish is the gobi manchurian. It’s so crispy and the sauce is so flavorful my mouth waters! The other dish I order is the malai kofta. The potato dumplings are so yummy and the texture is perfect. Not crispy or overly salted. Just YUM. At one point I was embarrassed that I was eating here so much, so I started trying other Indian restaurants. None can compare! They just make me want Dil Se more.
We've visited about ten times since they opened last Summer and the food is consistently excellent. I've never had a bad dish, and, since I drag all my friends here, I've tasted much of the menu. Business has picked up, so I now make sure we have a reservation if we don't want to wait for a table in the cozy seating in the bar.
I've always loved the fast, tasty variety at Tandoor and was pleased to find their new restaurant-DilSe! What a find! Small plates, great atmosphere, friendly staff, great value! Authentic and delish! Have a bite, you'll be glad you did!
The pakoras and chutney are fantastic.
They have maintained the Indian taste well. I specially liked the masala dosa and their sambhar. Chhole was a little sweet, maybe i should have asked for more spicey.
Good Food and service
Good food and nice surroundings. Great place for lunch, and you can actually hear your own conversations it is like home.
Great food menu; wonderful tamarind Margharita, & good staff. A little pricey though.
I love their food. Whenever people stumble upon our restaurant looking for meat, I send them to Dil SE. Owners are so sweet and their food is delicious
Loved their food... especially the noodles
Very accommodating to dietary restrictions. Customized several orders, polite service, big servings, and excellent flavor. Heat levels were on point for each order. Great location and reasonable prices.
Excellent food and kind attentive service
Great authentic and fresh Indian cuisine! Attentive staff and aesthetic place too! Go now!
Prompt and friendly service. Had the fish curry and samosas. Both were delish!
Ended up here because I love Swagat and this place had a better rating than them on Yelp. Got samosas, butter masala with chicken, kuruma (korma) with chicken, and garlic naan. Samosas appeared quickly, although it probably should have been a red flag that the order of them was more than $7 and it only came with 2. Regardless of the price or portion, they were very tasty and made me hopeful that the entrees would be stellar. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Butter masala was nice and creamy but none of the spices and individual flavors really came through; the dish ended up just being fairly bland. The kuruma was a bit better in flavor (probably because it isn't tomato based like the masala and I hate tomatoes) but still fairly bland. No flavors popped in any way. The garlic naan was not very garlicy and very oily (too oily, in my opinion), but was otherwise fine. My biggest complaint, though, is the price vs. portion argument. If you are paying a premium on food, the food should be either top of the line quality or a massive amount of it. Neither are the case here, though; the portions are tiny (like 7 very tiny rubbery pieces of chicken in the kuruma?) and the quality is middling. For that reason alone the cost is not justified here. My bottom line is that if I'm in the neighborhood and have a craving for Indian food, I'll make the extra walk and head over to Swagat, where the prices are similar but the quality and flavors are much better.
I had the chicken Tikka Masala and it was pretty amazing. The buttered naan was very good with it as well. The service was fast and the employees were very nice!
Very rude owner!
Me and my husband just came to portland for a week, we went there on our first day at portland. It was so delicious. From chicken65 to indo-Chinese noodles to butter chicken to tandoori chicken tikka, you name it every single dish is tasty and wonderful; also the staff is very friendly! 5/5!! In a week we went here 3 times in the end.
very bad customer service..
Good Ambience, Good Serice , Food was good . Do visit this place when you are in Portland Downtown Area . Do try Rasmalai here , I liked it very much.
Excellent food and service. One of the best in the entire Portland region..
Food might be a bit pricey but tasted excellent!
Best Indian food I've had in the northwest! Chicken curry spicy was actually spiced! Not like in bland seattle. The cool yogurt raitha helped calm my belly and with probiotics to boot! Busy place and I can see why.
Great food !!
The place is decent, they food is good but it can use a little more spices to bring the flavors out. The dosa was good but the sambar was just decent. The samosa had right amount of potato but there were no spices in the potato filling. The chicken Manchurian was good. Overall I think they did a pretty good job. If i had an option i would have given them a 3.5 stars. I would definitely be returning to try their lamb curry.
What a wonderful surprise! Excellent food. Great ambiance, full bar and it's open for lunch.
Always consistently delicious. Fresh and wonderful flavors.
Foods good. Could improve the service!
Delicious food and pleasant service. I've been consistently impressed over several visits.
Very, very good food here. Great lunch menu.
Very Indian food. My best so far in the states
I ordered a take out dish (which tasted awesome!) and was so happy that they use recyclable containers (greater than 6 oz round plastic tubs, lid goes in the garbage). Thank you for choosing a take out container that can be recycled in our region!
Good gluten free options and interesting menu items I have never seen at Indian restaurants before. Vegan friendly
Very tasty Indian food. At first our party was a bit worried because it was a Friday at 7 pm and there were maybe 5 other tables seated at the place. Boy were we wrong. We had 6 of us there and ordered a lot of things to share and everything was absolutely phenomenal. Vindaloo, korma, curry, you name it they cooked it excellently. Really fair prices and we all left happy and full. Our service was excellent and everyone in the place was very friendly.
Great flavor. Portions could be a little larger, but we keep going back anyway.
Great food. Out of stock on mango drink. Good price.
Food is fairly yummy, service can be a bit slow but I have also had fast service here. Now... the dishes are so overpriced. I paid 13$ for a curry. The curry was good but 11$ would have been a more reasonable price. The food does not earn the price they charge even though their curry is good.
This was my first restaurant upon moving Portland, and it was a very nice experience; friendly staff, clean place, good ambiance and great food at a reasonable price. Their Gobi Manchurian was especially good - very flavorful, and good texture. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, per the Portland industry standard.
Fantastic new Indian restaurant and a great addition to the neighborhood. Definitely a cut above the normal Indian places in Portland. I wanted to try something simple on my first outing here, so I got the butter masala chicken and a naan. The balance and complexity of spice in the masala was exceptional and the naan was hot and rich, brushed with butter, without being overly greasy. I will definitely be back.
Wonderful!
A pleasant environment with excellent customer service with tasty food along with drinks. The best Indian restaurant to visit in Portland!
Chicken 65 was delicious...if you want thosai this is the place
This place is beautiful. Very well appointed decor. The food is top notch and the staff is great.
Absolutely amazing experience! The food is the highest quality and the service is amazing. The restaurant ambience is really nice - great for all groups. Some of the best Indian food in the Pacific Northwest. Can’t wait to go again!
Food was good, however took quite some time to take order and the food to be served..ambience was good, the waiting staff was responsive.
I love Indian and I swear my chicken curry was the most flavorful curry I've ever had! My family of 6 are in Oregon for a week and found this restaurant based on online reviews. We all enjoyed our meals. The restaurant was very nice, clean with excellent service. The owner (I'm assuming) explained the recipe, pointing out the curry leaves. Thanks for the great dining experience!
Fresh with lovely flavors. Highly recommended.
The dosa was gigantic, spicy and delicious!!!! Can't wait to try more things.
After arriving late to Portland, this was one of the few Indian restaurants opened after 9:30pm. The food good in taste but not amazing. Sevice was also upto the standard. The only con was, the ambience was not upto mark and the tables were small and even dirty
Very good food like u in a family place very awesome place with service
long wait.
Nice place, but wish the portions were a bit bigger.
The food was great, very tasty! Service was quick too and the place wasn't crowded.
Awesome food and wonderful staff. Nice ambiance.
We were getting late with an hungry kid. They listened to us and they were ready to serve us even though we came close to closing time. The food is really good. Nice ambience !!!
Tandoori and samosas are very good. Service was friendly and quick. Would go again
I was here on the day they opened, Loved the food, it is tasty and the best chicken tikka masala i have had in Portland so far
Dil Se Indian's spice flavors are brighter. I love the eggplant curry the best. What a great find.
Came here for an early Sunday lunch. Tried the samosas and paneer Tikka masala. It was pretty average, nothing jumped out as bad or amazing. Won't avoid bit won't actively seek to go back.
I dont understand how this place got 4.4 rating.. It should have 3 to 3.5 max
Great Indian food in the downtown area. Bit pricey!
Friendly staff and the food was great. Also the wait was not nearly as long as I expected with some of the other reviews
Very good food. Loved it. We had Gobi Manchuria, masala dosa and dal tadka. We liked all of them.
Great food and great service! Would like the option of having
Nice seating area, attentive service, enjoyable food
Great value lunch menu. Naan was generous and delicious.
I ordered late, and had food delivered without thinking about the time. Not only was the food great, but the delivery person was super nice.
Wonderful, lipsmacking food after a long time. Hospitality was par excellence with the authentic Indian flavour on the taste buds. A must try by everyone!
The Dosa was great. Chicken appetizer was deep fried tastelessness.
Food is always good, medium spice is just right. One of my go-to restaurants in Portland.
This place is a gem in downtown. The portions are substantial, the spices are great, and the service is friendly. Oh yeah, and BEST NAAN I've had in ages. I'll definitely be back for lunch soon.
Food is pretty good here definitely not disappointed
Good was really good, service was really bad.
Great food
Top class Indian restaurant. Food is really awesome. We ordered roti dal tadka paneer curry n gutti vankaya curry. They are so authentic. Taste pallets enjoyed like anything. Dilse.. pakka desi
Really great food. It can take a while but dishes are tasty and authentic.
We had an excellent meal on a Sunday at noon. Busy but not crowded at that time. Food was carefully prepared and very flavorful. We are not spicy food eaters, so can't comment on level of spice, but the Chicken Tikka Masala was very tender, moist and tasty, and the Dosa had great texture and flavor. A little pricey, but a very nice meal and setting.
Not good ambience. Not recommended. Can give 5 to food out of 10. Still choose some other Indian place to eat.
Dosas are nice. Samosa not so much. Nice place.
Very good food. Liked the wait staff.
Perfect ambience and delicious food. The Indo Chinese food and medhu vada are my favorite delicacies here. Also, to mention the owners of the place are amazingly sweet.
Came here to eat with my kids, they loved the chicken tikka masala and they actually finished their food, they usually don't like any Indian types of food. I'm sure I will be coming back here with my kids. I enjoyed the naan bread as well as the tandoori salmon. The customer service was fantastic and the owners took their time to answers any questions I had about their new resteraunt. The one problem I had where that their is no takeout options so I couldn't order than pickup.
This place offers good food and soothing ambience. We had chole bhatura and it was amazing, aloo bonda was average. The paneer tikka masala was yum but chennai chicken curry was so so. Gajar halwa was scrumptious, they should add it in the menu coz it is only available as February special menu. Only downside is that they have only 2-3 staff and it takes a long time for anyone of them to attend the customers. We had wait for long time to give order as they were busy attending others. They should increase their staff quantity.
This place is becoming a hit or miss for me lately. I highly recommend the following. 1.Chennai chicken masala 2.chai 3. samosa 4.onion masala. 5. Garlic naan. Stay away from the aloo gobbi. It was uncooked cauliflower and potatoes. Similarly the masala dosa. The potatoes are undercooked. The rice is uncooked as well sometimes. Not sure if it’s a particular chef.
One of the best authentic Indian food in PDX
Great place....yummy food.
I had the paneer masala. It was the best Indian food I've ever had!
The food was awesome! Nice ambience! Best tadka dal ever!
Small portions. Tasted ok. The cutlery were dirty. Don't recommend.
We ordered Malai Kofta, Paneer Tikka Masala and Dal Tadka at Normal Indian spice level. All of them were yummy. Especially paneer tikka masala, it was perfect not too creamy. We also ordered Paneer Tikka Appetizer which was good as well. Rice portion which came along with the entree was a little small.
Food was good but the service was not good. Several other people who came in after us were served and got their bills before our food even arrived. No explanation or apology. Worth it if you're ok waiting a long time for your food.
GREAT FOOD,QUICK SERVICE.
Stumbled across this place last night. I've had Indian food all over the World, including New York, London, New Delhi... Dil Se rates among the best.
I just moved close to Dil Se and wanted to try it out. I called in an order to go. Unfortunately when I ordered, there was an issue in the kitchen that caused a delay in my food. Like, kind of a big delay. When I got my food, it was delicious. Super flavorful butter masala with lamb, as well as garlic naan and rasmalai. The butter masala truly is terrific, great authentic spice blend. Because of my long wait, the gracious owner was so kind and took the time to call me and apologize himself. Really wonderful customer service, and it's clear he truly loves his restaurant and wants his guests to be happy. I have definitely found my new to go Indian place in Portland!
The Butter Chicken and garlic nan were fantastic. Friendly staff. Only 4 stars because service was slow. Could have been due to all the take out orders. Otherwise a nice cozy place. Cool little bar next to a fireplace. This could be a good place for a nightcap too. Definitely coming back soon.
Wonderful food and atmosphere! I'll definitely return soon!
Food was good but it was a slow Sunday afternoon and the waiter was very snooty, for lack of a better word. I wouldn't go back. Plenty of other good restaurants where the waitstaff are pleasant even if they are having an off day. When we walked in I asked about a window both that was empty. This same waiter shook his head "no." Then went off. A different guy sat us there anyway. The waiter came up and said that guy shouldn't have sat us there because it was reserved for a party of four. I don't know if this is the reason he seemed unpleasant the rest of our meal but no party of 4 ever showed up while we were there and there were multiple empty tables for four around the restaurant.
Great food, I've been here several times and every dish has been excellent. The only thing I don't like is that there's no chai!
Great atmosphere, great service, and great food! 5 out of 5 stars without a doubt.
You can find a professional chef here. Each and every item was good.
Wow first time here I’m impressed this food is amazing, customer service and prices excellent I highly recommend this restaurant.
Owners are super rude to customers and downright evil to wait staff, food takes a decade to come out.
We loved this place for their super fresh Indian food and very good service. Our kids had Mango Lassi and it was very well made. We tried vegetable uttapam, Paneer Saag, Naan and Pakoras, every dish was in adequate amount, and full of taste. Must visit if you are in Portland and like Indian food.
Delish! Can't wait to go again
They use peanut oil to fry their dishes. I was not super impressed with their customer service bit it was crowded so that must say something.
I've been to this place several times with friends and colleagues. Best restaurant in Portland to have good Indian food. Owner and staff are very friendly. Food is delicious and consistent all the time. I would love to see Biryani's in there menu someday.
Solid Indian joint & one of the few places you can get uthappam in pdx.
They have more than the vanilla Indian restaurant curries - guttivankaya (stuffed eggplant), okra curry, Mysore Masala dosa, etc.
Good food and service. Liked it both times I was here.
If you want to have Indian food in Portland then this is one of the best place to dine out. We had tried veg and non veg and both are equally good. But don't expect the same spice level as you get in India .
Best food in the city.Specially Dosa varieties awesome.Nice Friendly staffs .Highly Recommend this place .
Great food , nice atmosphere, good service.
Some very good food, some so-so with frozen vegetables used. A bit heavy on sauces with less of the substantive food for some entrees. Not bad but not my first choice.
uthappam, sambar and gobi manchurian were excellent in taste.
