REVIEWS OF Cider Mill & Fryer Tuck Chicken IN Oregon

Paul Wilkinson

Haven't eaten in the restaurant, but it's awesome. Ordered chicken sandwich and fries, thought it was a little pricey for a sandwich... Then I got my order. Lots of food, great value, and it's delicious.

Cyrus Hyram

I wouldn't go in this place is everything was free. Simple as that.

Brian Yapko

Don't be put off by the dive-bar ambience. The chicken, fries, cole slaw are easily the best I've had in Portland. Friendly service, huge portions. Really a great dining experience.

Eric Kuther

This is a wonderful neighborhood bar! There is lots of seating indoors and good tv placement for watching sporting events. The outdoor patio and covered fire pit is destination feature, you can easily meet new people or chill by yourself and one of the corner tables. Lovely anytime of year! All the bartenders (Mercades, Shannon, Carlie, Nora, Jessica, Courtney)are quick witted, knowledgeable and fun to talk to. They have Trivia, Karaoke and live bands throughout the week as well as an open poetry/performance night! This is great and is almost always my venue of choice when I want to go out for a drink

Buddy Wallingford

Friday night karaoke starts at 9pm. Its so fun! Courtney and Jessica are the best bartenders!

James Stinson

Was not happy with the chicken dinners we got very dry

Dianne Miller

The food is excellent

Joan Erickson

We love their spuds and must have Dip. Deck in back welcomes dogs

Anthony Johnson

Fryer Tuck used to be very good bit my experience yesterday was horrible. The chicken was over cooked and with out seasoning. The famous fries were battered with out seasoning. So when you dipped them in the sauce, all you tasted was sauce. The rolls looked like hamburger buns and tasted as bad. The only saving grace was the Cole slaw and the macaroni salad. I highly recommend that no one eat at this establishment.

Zach Minor

Mercedes and Sharon are all star bartenders. Good food too

Kip Ching

Easy to spot from street. Fried food. Friendly staff

Jeff Harrington

If you enjoy really good fried chicken an Jo Jo's, this is your place. The pieces are huge. All cooked to order. Allow about 25 minutes to prepare, but it's well worth the wait!

Jen Rohrer-Jones

Great and tasty menu, the staff is always on point and keeps me comin' back. This place has definitely become my favorite! Don't forget to try the dill sauce!

R.A.

A cool little spot where everyone knows everyone and you can order a drink while they cook you some delicious chicken.

Andrea Priest

Wanted to get a drink while we waited for our chicken. Bartender opted out of serving us. Will never be going back.

Dave Long

Love this old school place especially the chicken.

sheila heagerty

Yummy. Was there to see live music. Fantastic music by DC Malone and the Jones that night. Excellent food and service too. Check out the firepit on the patio.

Brooks Tooson

Did not care for the chicken or the fries. The Dill sauce was Okay

Cisco dock

I really love this place. Shannon is a Awesome bartender!!

Elle Wise

The food was amazing. We had the chicken, a chef salad and a bacon cheeseburger. All were good portions and tasty. Our server Shannon superb!

Jen Dean

Great place! Nice patio, awesome atmosphere, amazing bartenders, food and more!

Mike Creasey

Amazing atmosphere, food and drinks. What more could you want

Matt Winland

This place advertised its fried chicken but the chicken wasn't very good. The breading was thick and the frying was done well, but it just lacked flavor. The fries weren't crispy but were heavily fried too. I wanted to like this place because it's the perfect formula for me, but I couldn't. Please spice up the chicken. The service is good and there's easy parking. The place is going for the dive bar vibe and it works for them.

Craig Dorrell

Nice chicken

Henry Moreno

Best chicken. Dill dip is very good. 2 piece thigh snack pack.

Stuart Peterson

Chicken was a little overcooked. Fries were outstanding. Worth a trip back! I felt they're overcharging for dipping sauce and sides such as macaroni salad or potato salad. We'll definitely be back!

Tori Ash

Great fried chicken, great atmosphere, great big deck, plus more. Seems lime a dive but tastes so good! Tons of TVs for the sports enthusiast! Great beer selection also.

andrew lagozzino

I love this place! Far and away the best bar in the Village. Summer nights on the back patio are always full of interesting characters spinning tales of whimsy and wonder. Food is tasty with excellent portions. But the best part is the staff, the ladies of the mill are professional and friendly. They help to foster an atmosphere of fun while making you feel welcome and safe. A+++++++++++++++++++

Amyonly84

We had the chicken dinner and it was awesome and we love the bartender Mercedes. She was so cool and very nice.

Brandy Wharton

Awesome chicken, friendly staff... I'll be back!

Josh Ludahl

Okay. Food is bland, but good portions.

Jennifer Dean

Awesome place! Great staff, yummy food, vp, live music, beautiful patio with huge fire pit, service animal friendly. Definitely going back!

Jo Ann McElmurry

I usually don't like Country Potatoes with my breakfast, but theirs are coated (secret recipe) and delicious! The Egg Muffin was great also!

Teri Clonkey

Love the Chicken and Little john spuds! Best dip ever!

Anthony Gonnason

It was really nice there breakfast was cheap and they had a really friendly staff and the service was excelent!

Elijah Hasan

Best spuds(Joe-Joe's) in the state.

jae tee

Chicken is great!

Conald Frostig-Miller

Having only dealt with the bar staff over the phone this seems like a very hospitable establishment. It's also one of the most frequented bars of my passengers(As a cab driver). But they seem to like it a lot. I've heard they have really good chicken and potato wedges.

Aiko Scupien

Fryer Tuck used to be the best, but unfortunately the recipes have changed a bit. Chicken was a bit dry and the spuds were definitely not the same yumminess as before, they used to taste like the fried chicken. It's still very good though. I just wish it was like it used to be, it was perfection.

Jenn Mancini

fun bar, good drinks and people

Lynnette's Politics

Ooh, I so wanted to review this bar! I've been in dive bars from Buffalo to Portland, and all across the country. I'm an afficianado. And there are certain criteria even for this lowly resident in the pantheon of foodery. Number one a dive bar has to have a GREAT bartender. Two, they have to have a good menu of favorites. And three, the atmosphere has to be just right, not skanky, but if you've been working in your yard and you have actual dirt on your shirt, you can still stop in for a beer. Well, they rated 5 stars in all categories! The bartender was a young woman who greeted half the customers by name, and half of them she came out and gave them a hug. The customers all seemed to know each other, but in a friendly way, not exclusive. My husband and I were obviously newcomers, but she couldn't have made us feel any more at home. The plus for their menu is the next door chicken place, I got it and OMG! So yes, if you're looking for a CHEERS bar, this is it.

Ang A

Been eating here for 21 years!! Your consistency is LITERALLY unmatched. The employees are all so sweet!! It's a great place to get a beer or order takeout. The chicken has been a little dry the last year or so. So, maybe something to take a look at. But I LOVE you guys, my kids LOVE YOU GUYS. And, pray you maintain/stay strong in business...as you're a staple business ....seeing the Cider Mill/ Fryer Tucks sign is like the welcome wagon sign to the village!

Jesse B

Friendly service & bar people but, the establishment is run-down especially their bathrooms.

Rick Masters

Friendly staff. Great drinks. Great chicken. Great neighborhood bar to watch your favorite team win or lose.

anthony Campbell

Like the price of drinks and food. I wish the food had more seasoning and a little more salt. The staff is great and so are the patrons. It's like a place where people come to meet. W

Calder Hoover

Very mediocre fried chicken. Great quantity for the price - two of us shared a half chicken meal for $18, and it was more than we could finish (and I’m a big eater!). The chicken, however, did not have enough flavor. The biggest culprit was the lack of salt. This was true for the spuds (jojos) as well - unseasoned batter, albeit crispy and on point texture-wise. Come for a cheap meal, but nothing memorable.

Kóródi Péter

A really awesome place to visit. Every one was so nice and the food was great.

John Krzeszak

Nice place,friendly staff, great food.

Holly Nehls

This place has been around since I can remember and the "spuds" and dip are just how I remember. I love them! I live outside of Portland now but I certainly make it a point to stop in when I'm in town.

Mack Walker

Good chicken. They will OVERCHARGE to-go orders if you are not paying attention. Ordering over the phone is pretty much incomprehensible. Expect "Eh what" when they pick up and "eh" "ok" "eh" to the rest of the call. Just make a script guys, its not hard.

lessaleadr

Came here for the Little John spuds and dip, but the chicken is good, too. NOT fast food; multiple signs advise that an order takes at least 20 minutes, but definitely worth it. Warning: the large order of spuds is 3+ pounds of potatoes!

Lea Teodoro

Thier fries are extremely filling. Best fried chicken I've had in awhile

Anita Trumbo

Best jojo and chicken dinner. Live music on Saturday night....neighborhood favorite casual gathering place.

Jeff Chiu

Lovely local pub with a lot of personality! Came here because it was rated some of the best fried chicken in town. The friend chicken and fried potato wedges were expertly fried but I found them to be a little bland. Perhaps just an off day with the seasonings?

Aaron Babb

Great chicken, excellent service. Fryer Tuck has been great for years and remains exceptional. If you don't like the bar ambience get takeout chicken and love it.

Rhonda Hill

To Spendy.

Scott Eddy

Basic dive bar. Chicken is just ok for me.

Collin Stoll

Good neighborhood bar with good batter dip fries and fried chicken. Wait staff is friendly and helpful.

Courtney Edgeworth

Love my second home!!!

Lara Haehle

We had chicken, their jo-jos style potatoes, coleslaw, and their butter rolls. We found a serious lack of flavor in the fried food. There seemed to be no seasoning (especially salt) andand the fry grease seemed old and heavy. The dill sauce was equally unremarkable and bland. The best part was the rolls, which obviously double as sandwich buns. Everything tasted like it might have been great at a point in the distant past when the owners were still emotionally invested. Sad because the nostalgia around the place was fun.

AmazonAJB Oregon

Awesome food! Awesome waitress... And hotter than hottness!!!

Spring Power

4 stars as the middle of 5 and 3. It depends totally on your expectations and what you are looking for. The food is fresh and comes in big portions. It is decent comfort food. Quick and friendly service. The chicken meals were great but the fries were mushy and had almost no taste (well, potato). And they were carrying a bunch of oil. The place offers a lot of entertainment. 1 pool table, trivial games .. so it is vivid to noisy. Crowded and kind of rough.

Aaron Oaks

I went here because I had an hour to kill in the area before a meeting. This place is exactly the kind of aesthetic I look for in a homey dive bar. It's very cozy yet packed with all sorts of entertainment potential. They have pictures hanging on every inch of the wooden walls a few fire places. It feels like a cabin in the woods. I went to the to-go part of the restaurant first, it being my first time there and this was where the kitchen with all the chicken is. The man at the counter told me I could order from the lounge and to sit anywhere. I sat at the bar with a view of behind the bar area and saw many taps and a wide selection of liquor. Once the server, Mercedes, was not busy she promptly came over to me and took my order; I knew what I wanted. She told me it would be about a 15min wait, which I was fine with. It's nice to have that information! There were patrons entering every few minutes and she would ask them, "would you like your regular?" Which I love in a home base. She knew everyone and was a very kind host. This is a place you can feel you belong after becoming a regular. The food came out and it was delicious. It was prepared by people who care about quality bar food, and they deliver. I would love to come back time and time again, and would recommend anyone to check it out if you are looking for a brief respite from the busy city.

Wesley Brue

A bar and a chicken place that neatly compliment each other. The chicken is local and tastes amazing. Bar is laden with country-kitsch, but not ironically and not to the point of being tacky. This place is the antithesis of a hipster bar. The effect is similar to walking into a nice bar in the flyover states: comfortable, simple, and welcoming.

Willis Miller

Great fried chicken on earth... I kid you not!

Z Conway

The bartender is over her head and very rude

Sean McDonald

You have to come try this chicken tortilla soup! (When it's available)

Brian Klotz

Great atmosphere and service! Thanks, Courtney!

Jessica Nicole Freeman

It's an awesome place to get chicken and spuds you don't call Jojo so you don't call them fries they're called spuds and they're awesome

Gabriel Romero

Great fried chicken take-out. If you need a fried chicken fix and don't feel like going far, this is your dealer. Warning. If you order fries you will receive a giant mound larger than your head. And you will not be sad about it. Usually takes about 20 minutes from your order, so plan accordingly.

Kimba Arivaderci

Fair and ok for a local pub with unusual menu items like innards. Huge potions though, I will return for fried chicken and cheap drinks.

Chris Huffstutter

Had some good chicken and a very relaxed atmosphere. Not busy when I was there so the bartender served my table. Food came pretty quick and the bartender was great

V L

Good fried chicken, good service

Ron L.

Best broasted chicken anywhere any day.

Lisa Simpson

Mmm! Fryer tucks have the BEST spuds, ranch dip, and chicken strips ever! Sketchy hole in the wall kinda vibe but great food!

Rosalyn long

Customer service was rude to the person before me and to us, added on a $.50 fee without asking if I wanted it take out. Said food was going to be 25 minutes (with a 20 minute warning on the door), but took 53 minutes with me being the only person there. Yes, I kept track. The food was worse than KFC, it was somehow dry and watery. The bread was tasteless and the meat had an obscene amount of just bland liquid leaking out of it while also being dry. Just go to KFC and don’t waste your time or money here.

James

Their jukebox has Judas Priest, they have a Trivia pub quiz night and the fried Chicken is amazing. Great pub.

Dusto Busto

It's the type of food that makes you question your priorities in life. Their fried chicken is pretty good, but nothing about it really stood out to me. Deep fried, almost as much breaded stuff as there is chicken, soaking wet/dripping in grease, very crispy. Their potato wedges were very good, had a taste I wasn't expecting. So that gets a plus for being unique, but again, they are deep-fried and glistening with grease. There are meals that can provide you energy and nutrition, and meals that make you want to take a nap. I think this falls in the latter category. You know that, once you finish this meal, you will be wondering why you ate the whole thing as you write your will, because once you go to the bathroom, you are going to get absolutely killed. Online, their menu states that a 2-piece box is $7.95, 3-piece $8.95. They had a menu on the wall as well that stated the same thing. So I was confused that I was charged $8.45, which is neither. Maybe they raised their prices recently. Oh well, I'm not going back there anytime soon. It's "good" but not great, and I'm really not a huge fan of fried chicken anyways. But if that's your thing, give it a try.

Adam Thrasher

I love the staff, they're very nice and fun. The food is also super good, especially as bar food goes.

Ross Wineinger

We were in the area and looking for a place to eat and this popped up on our radar. We order the fried chicken dinner for 6 and it was only $42(split between two families of 4)! The one and a half fried chickens was delicious and juicy on the inside. The jojos (spuds) were plentiful, properly breaded with a crispy outside, fluffy interior and also delicious. It also came with sides of macaroni salad and baked beans which were decent and the bucket of chicken had several buttered buns scattered around too. The ambiance is very much of your local bar, but don't let that dissuade you because the service was attentive and we were treated like one of the regulars. For the price you seriously couldn't do better for the amount of jojos and fried chicken. Don't bother with KFC, just come here.

Sue Schuck

Good food and beer! Love this place!

Paul Martinez

Cheap drinks, decent happy hour menu, nice patio with a firepit

Kris Ostrander

After growing up in the area and going to Wilson High School, this was a familiar place to hang out at to laugh and talk with friends. Everyone here is awesome! The servers are great and very friendly.

Christina McCurty

Chicken, beer and bartender are the best in town!

Diana Garr

The best thing about this place is you can enjoy your food and most probably make new friends and the staff ...great bunch of people there!!

Jay D Ehrlich

Great fried chicken & a friendly, cozy bar.

D Abbott

Where I go if I want chicken. It's a classic Portland restaurant. A place that feels more like it might be in the east side of the west side of town. I've never had a bad meal.

allie komarek

I don't remember the bar much except for it has an outside area, which is cool. Other than that, the restaurant portion that serves food, while fried chicken and biscuits are in no way healthy for you, their fried chicken and biscuits are amazing. Their coleslaw is pretty dam good too! This place is also right along the bus line and in a very nice and friendly area/neighborhood. It's been around for a long time too. The staff is nice too

Becca Hodgson

Expensive, traditional fried chicken Local favorite. Comfort food.

Chris Bredemeyer

Best spuds in town

Nellie Tews

Food is alright, service is ok... Nothing spectacular

Mitch Mayfield

Love the chicken and jojos

Douglas Ladd

Great Chicken, good drinks, live weekend bands, outdoor dining & smoke area. Big screen sports.

Vee Brannan

Awful. The food is weird (who breads fries? Who sells a chicken strip dish without fries??), And the wait staff is rude. I have been here multiple times, always been respectful, and always tipped, and I was verbally attacked by the bartender out of no where. She accused me of being drunk after one beer because I wanted to eat my food rather than go up and sing, and called me rude for not entertaining a guy 20 years my senior who was trying to chat me up. Then she called me a child when I I got teary (I'm just one of those people who cry when I'm caught off guard). Don't bother with this place.

Mary Staples

Only stopped by for a

Charles malloy

The chicken was great but the JoJo's were off the chain and Allicin the bar tender was straight up awesome.

James Kline

Great food and service. Love stopping in on Wednesday nights with Nora who is always running around providing great service.

Wow! Mercedes is amazing! Fried chicken is amazing. Chill spot with great food, fast service and amazing, real/down to earth salt of the earth Oregonians!

Everything is very fresh tasting - we had 3 salads (coke slaw, potato salad, macaroni salad) and they all seemed as if they had just been prepared. Herbs were fresh and crisp and nothing was mushy or seemed processed - so I called to ask if they were homemade and they are. You can tell. They were good - especially the slaw and potato salad. The draw is the chicken and again, everything tastes so fresh. The pieces are large, juicy and the coating is delish - ditto the spuds: fresh, fluffy russet or similar high quality potato, nothing is oily and, to our big surprise, nothing was salty. Most fried chicken is soaked in a sodium based marinade and then overly salted on the coating, but again, everything here is so fresh tasting, they let you decide how much salt you want. The dinner for four was plenty as far as chicken and spuds, but we ordered two extra pints of salad to try them. We really only needed one extra - or none - as even the four of us couldn’t finish all those yummy jo jos with dip - but they will be lunch tomorrow - as will the leftover rolls and salads. Another HUGE plus: they let you chose what pieces you want. We chose 3 breasts, 4 thighs and a wing. There us a one dollar up charge per breast. It’s so cool to get exactly the pieces you like with no bs. The staff was very friendly and apologized that they were totally slammed and it would be 30 minutes instead if the usual 20 as EVERYTHING is cooked fresh to order. Nice to actually get food so fresh that it’s literally too hot to eat. Also - they pack everything with common sense so nothing gets mashed or leaks. It’s just all so well thought out and prepared. We got ample napkins and 4 sets of plastic ware that we didn’t use as we took it home. We will definitely be back!

David Workman

Good food. Very dated.

Adam Chevez

Use to live in the area and every time I come to this place the food is always tasting different the chicken looked seasoned well but tasted pretty bland the spuds were super soggy but tasted good one thing I was really disappointed with was the macaroni salad and baked beans were super plain

Thomas Lefor

I have been going up to the Cidermill for the last 15 years. Gary was incredible and it’s still everyone’s loss that he passed. Annette and Nora have been my main two bartenders since the passing of Gary and they’re simply put, fantastic. Annette has moved on and Nora is now there on several weeknights and could not be a more kind, considerate, professional and fantastic bartender. Always love the conversations and just being treated well when I go into the Cidermill. It’s been my go to spot since I moved into the neighborhood 15 years ago and I’ll continue to go and enjoy the service, the food (best chicken around!) and the patrons who make it the great neighborhood bar that it is.

hunterstyles11 .

Some of the best times are to be had here, the place has it all, music, pool, fire pit, awesome fun staff! They run a tight ship, hence the review from Cyrus below. When you go out to an establishment you should purchase alcohol from that place instead of bringing your own. He got 86'd for this and then stretches out his fingers and writes a nasty review of Nora, who is loved by all there. I also hear that the karaoke on Friday is amazingly fun!

Jon Hansen

Great local place to get tasty bar food, delicious drinks and find new friends. Service has always been spectacular every visit. Recommend 11 out of 10

MrKillercaine .

I first started going to fryer tuck about 25 years ago and it was some of the best fried chicken I’ve had on the west coast, as I am from Georgia that’s a huge compliment. In the last decade or so the quality and flavor has definitely declined. Being close to home I still eat there from time to time. Today 9/22/19 a friend and I decided to go to Cider mill for breakfast and I was displeased with the quality. The breakfast potatoes are deep fried and small portioned. What appeared to be margarine on my English muffin wouldn’t melt. Only option of jam was strawberry or honey, that appeared to be very old and solidified. A little while later after I got home I was hit with diarrhea.. called my friend that had joined me and he was in the same condition, on the toilet. For the price anyone can find a better and safer meal elsewhere. And what’s with all the small tv’s?

Chris Hunter

Had the steak sandwich. Way to heavy on bbq sauce. All else decent.

Mark Smithson

Fantastic fried chicken!!

Joseph Sage

Love the broasted chicken. So delicious and moist. Atmosphere is more like a local dive bar. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We order chicken dinner for 2 and substitute to all white meat. Tons of food.

Jay DeCamp

Memory lane, this place had the best chicken and jo jo's 40 +years ago, still pretty good, prices are a little high but the parking lot is full at dinner time .50cent charge for take out.

Ivan Forslund

Fantastic service!! Great food and drinks too!

Ricky Almeida

That fried chicken though!!!! Wow!!!

Rob Reid

Taco tues! Nora is an amazing server! Best tacos anywhere!

lucas Sanders

The chicken is amazing if you get there before it closes. The tiny blonde that bar tends is cute as hell. They have pool tables, live music, and a covered fire pit out back that you can smoke at also. If you find yourself in Multnomah Village it is well worth the stop.

Todd Traughber

Their chicken is simply delicious.

Henry Harris

Chicken was great, service good, interior could use an update... still smells of the days of indoor smoking

chaos minister

Was a terrible place, they truly don't care about the safety of the people visiting their establishment.

Laura Ladd

Always good and Mercedes is awesome!

Juniper Lund

Super nice staff and decent happy hour food

Michael N

The batter used for the chicken was really light and crispy. However though the garlic fries were a heaping amount, it didn't help that the cuts were far too large, giving it kind of a mashed potatoes texture on the inside of the fries. The dill dip that came with the chicken was fantastic.

Alikitty 00

Five stars for the super friendly waitress!! This place has a little bit of a small town pub atmosphere. It would make a good place to take a couple of friends to. I've had better fried chicken in my life, but that doesn't mean it wasn't darn tasty, and for the price we paid, we got a massive amount of food. I'd go back again for sure!

Leslie J

I like this bar. My husband hosts trivia there Thursday nights. It's fun. They have chicken liver. its amazing.

Shawn Miller

If you go there, you have to try their battered fries

Stephanie Andrews

Great karaoke on Friday nights! The KJ is very nice and wants everyone to have fun. There is lots of seating in and out doors with an outdoor fire pit to warm up around. It is a good spot to hang out with friends and watch the sports game or play pool too.

Ric Spence

Great chicken fried steak. Tasteless fried Chicken. Friendly staff.

Nathan Jones

Good chicken, cheap beer. They have gizzards and hearts too.

David Larson

Excellent place for getting your fried chicken and spuds. The ranch dip is awesome! Will be back again and again.

George Pandzik

The food is great, and the staff are nice, even with my kiddo with me. Prices are reasonable for their quality. Those who don't like heavily fried foods or having all their food the same color may not like it, but this is good fried chicken and potatoes.

Erin Lewis

Ok food and service.

Anton Livingston

Some of the best bartenders in the village. The food is great and consistent.

Aaron Smith

Nice dive bar with a good tap selection and the sweetest staff.

Gwayne Stern

Best fried chicken found anywhere!

Ted Mastrangelo

Best breakfast around. Chicken fried steak is excellent

Lauren Billington

Cold beer and friendly service!

j mcmike

Best spuds in the world. Chicken ok.

J Leigh

Just amazing dip and spuds

Sean Eugene

Pleasant ambiance and outstanding lunchtime service. Completely underwhelmed with the buffalo wings and fries plate. I was hoping for some chicken expertise. Next time I'll try the broiled chicken... But I don't think my co-workers will ever come back.

Trevor Shapiro

Fun bar good area pool table fire in the back and nice staff. Food is excellent do you like fried chicken and jojos. Would definitely recommend for food.

Sebastian Pier

I go here all the time they sure do a good job with their food and drinks ❤
