As you know, we don't usually bother to place evaluations when they are correct and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant is classified in the category of Chicken restaurant.
I came here a week or two back, and despite having posted business hours- they were closing 30-45 minutes early. Rather disappointing when you drive over from Beaverton. I gave them 2 stars because they MIGHT have good food? I’ll never know though since they don’t stay open until their actual closing time.
The food there is amazing, even better in person than the delivery service. The potatoes are crispy and not burnt, the salad always has the freshest, seasonal veggies and it’s dresses perfectly. The service was nonexistent though. The guy that waited on us said not a single word...no hello, no thank you, nothin. He was busy talking to the other guys working there I guess.
First time eating here: friendly service decent chicken. The man taking my order took the skin off per my request like it was no big deal. Second time: different man, rude and cocky. Calls me a liar when I told him I had the chicken last time without the skin. Not coming back.
Some of my favorite chicken ever. And I don't know what magical recipe they have for the guns (potatoes) but they're incredible. Service is always pleasant. :) Good, goooood food.
So tasty! We can't get enough. The chicken is juicy and delicious and my husband who doesn't even like potatoes eats all of them. The sauce is the best part though. Don't forget to order extra!
So great!
Chicken and Guns is perhaps an exercise in culinary creativity. Whether that experimentation has been fruitful, is up for each patron to decide. I arrived, to find the space moderately crowded. People chatted relaxedly, and enjoyed the convivial courtyard. One of my first issues was the disposition of the staff. The man taking orders could not be described as affable. He seemed a bit miffed as he surveyed the customers standing before him. When I interacted with him, he was brusk, to the point and reticent to exchange any sort of pleasantries. I found this mentally off putting. Once paying and being given my order (which consisted of 1/4 chicken, guns and chimichurri), I sat down. I found the chicken quite delectable; cooked so it was well done, yet still moist. The vinegar was quite potent and cleared my sinuses immediately, though I do assign some blame to myself for choosing the sauce. My only other issue with the chicken was how heavy it was. I consider it to be only a minor problem. The “guns”, on the other hand, were decidedly less agreeable. Some were edible, but many of them were desiccated masses. To conclude, I have a favorable opinion of Chicken and Guns. However, I would suggest that you choose the Aji sauce instead (to counteract the problems with the “guns”) of the chimichurri.
Bomb diggity!
Delicious food, nice food cart court, but there are wasps at the court during the warmer seasons.
Best people best sauce
Best chicken in the Shire
Visited this place yesterday with some of my friends, it is super amazing, the chicken is very tender and delicious, would definitely come here again!
Racial discrimination is not cool #permitpatty
I honestly make it a point to come here every time I'm in town. Just randomly drove by seeing the sign "Chicken & Guns"... Since I love both it caught my eye. Decided to try it the first time and fell in love. I usually just get the wings as there's a good char taste I like. Not burnt, just charred. They BBQ and oven cook their chicken. 6 wings for $10 and 12 wings for $16. The sauce it comes with has a slight kick, but nothing too bad. Their chicken has some spice to it for sure. Love the guys behind the grill... They always have something hilarious to say. Great location with other food pods and a firepit. Def check it out
Very GREAT choice for meat lovers like ME!
The chicken tasted so good, and the fries were simply amazing and so different.
Decent chicken but if you want to top it off with a side of RACIST PIG, go for it. My business is going else where.
Our favorite food cart when we want chicken.
If you can't find good food in PDX, you didn't try. No excuse for fast food chain eating here! Chicken & Guns is my joint!
I had the quarter bird with the Peruvian sauce and it was Delicious!! Loved the guns and great portions.
Great food and service. And NO racism anywhere to be found.
The best chicken ever.. Crispy potatoes yummy.. With my most favorite Timothy McGarry
These guys are great! I know that every time I come here I will have an amazing meal. Plus this place is great for groups you can get anywhere from a quarter of a chicken to a full chicken plus your choice of salad or potatoes. I usually get the salad but the potatoes are amazing too. To top it all off the pod that they are located in is amazing. There is lots of covered and uncovered seating and they are open late!
There is no quality of food that will convince me to support a racist. Even if you were the best chicken in town (which you arent), I would rather go hungry than support ya'll. Black lives matter.
Sooo good, my go-to roasted chicken place in Portland! Great service, cool and hip atmosphere, and AMAZING chicken, fries and sauce! Get the Whole Bird with Guns and the green sauce. It's a great deal for how much food you get, and you won't mind having leftovers!
The food have zero flavor. It looked good but tasted like nothing. The six of us were disappointed. As we were leaving we heard one cook say to the other we ran out of salt earlier. Maybe that was the issue.
This is not boring chicken! It's amazing!
Flavorless food and not worth your money nor time. Keep your pets away too, or the owner of this place might hurt them. Owner is scum.
A Portland food must. Very good.
I ordered the chimichanga chicken with the salad. The food was pretty good, but they messed up the order and gave me white meat when I asked for red. There's a lot of hype around this place it seems and although good it doesn't feel like a stand out to me.
The food is delicious! My little Chihuahua-terrier mix OJ loves it too.
Great taste of Chicken. So crispy an a heavy great taste in my mouth. They know how to bbq. Everything tastes fresh. I very like the double crispy fried potatoes.
Owned by a racist! Don’t give them your money! Support inclusive businesses that don’t call the cops on POC customers.
Yum... I love the smokey chicken and crispy potatoes aka guns. add in their picked red onions and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The flavor and textures packed into this dish are next level delicious. You can smell the chicken cooking from blocks away.
I got a half bird with the potatoes. Their potatoes are very good, so crispy. And their green aji sauce was so so good. Jalapeno gives it a tiny kick but it's very mild. The chicken is nicely smoky, and well cooked.
One of the best fried chicken, juicy, and yummy taste.. finger licking good. Specially the green sause that they have is extremely good dipping to go with. Definitely a must go place.
I've been here so many time, and it is hands down my favorite chicken in town! Grilled to perfection, very tender, and seasoned very well. Their potatoes and salad are very delicious. Wings are great. And I have no idea why there are tons of reviews about the owner being racist!
Very good chicken! Didn’t try the “guns” (potatoes) had the salad instead and that too was very good. Price is right, food was good, solid 4 star food cart! Ill be back!
Probably the best chicken I have had in Portland . If you have ever had Indian Tandoori chicken , the flavors were a mild version of the Tandoori chicken . The burnt potato that was offered as sides was unique and quite tasty as well Be informed though that it’s super expensive . 16$ for half a small chicken is really pushing it for me . If not for the price , I would have visited more often
Oh me oh my you've gotta try the Tacu Tacu! It was all amazing-chicken, pickled onions, fried plantains, black beans and rice with an egg on top, perfectly done. I'll be back!
Came down from Seattle. Food was worth 1 star . Didn’t understand why the ppl were all looking at us strange! Not until I did a little research!
Wanted to give 5 stars but my delivery showed up without the sauce and the sauce is one of the best parts!
First time eating here. Really good, loved everything I tried. Aji sauce is great on the chicken and potatoes. Will definitely go back.
Chicken was pretty good, could've used more flavor but cooked right. The potatoes were way over cooked to the point of them becoming just trash.
Terrible rude people. I tipped them a $1.50 and they gave me a pile burnt potatoes. Very sad. They were too hard to eat. They were black. I cant believe they put food out like that. Way over priced as well. I will never go back because no person in thier right mind would serve burnt food. Horrible place dont waste your time go the falafel truck instead.
The rudest staff I've ever encountered at a restaurant. Have been over five times and they haven't responded once to a "thank you" or "have a good day." They look incredibly bothered to serve/deal with anyone, no matter who seems to be working.
Love this cart. Chicken is cooked perfectly. Love the aji sauce!
By far my favorite food cart in Portland. The chicken is smoked , the guns are potatoes the green sauce makes it all work. One of those food experiences where the whole is much greater than the sum of the parts. So much more than smoked chicken and potatoes.
Decent chicken, better guns
Best food cart in town, hands down. Top-notch food and awesome staff - you can't go wrong with any item on the menu.
Such amazing food- the sauce is so good with the chicken! The people are great, very welcoming.a definite must try!
What is all the fuss about? It's good chicken but it's not the best I've had by a long shot. I think people like the name more than the actual chicken. The potatoes are good and extra crispy. Chicken was cooked perfectly but it's nothing to write home about. That green sauce they use is amazing and could have used more of it. The sauce was the star. This is in a food truck park with tables to eat at which is great but steer clear of the porta-potties.
Mmmmmmmmm god damn
I am a born and raised Portlander who has reviewed bars and restaurants for both digital and print media for nearly 20 years. I am also the son of immigrants who understands that the need to treat people with respect is paramount. The food is good, but I can longer support a food cart with an owner that calls the police on racial minorities who were both polite and waiting to support their business with a purchase.
The guns are potato’s and there awesome!
I loved every, single, bite, of, that, chicken. Thank you!
If you want a fun memorable place to eat this is it. The atmosphere is best at night or sunset. The outdoor fires and tables are a nice touch. The chicken green sauce is a little spicy and would bother some. But I loved it. The only down sides is the water provided was from a water gallon bucket and it makes the water taste bad because of the plastic. Also the garbage cans are gross and you have to open the lid and it was all greasy. So that's why I gave it 4 stars.
The Peruvian aji sauce is so good. Will trade two chihuahuas for the secret recipe. Fries were real tasty like, and the chicken was done perfectly. Fast and courteous service! Don't forget to tip! Also a great selection of coke bottles. Ask them for the best.
Great food, just a bit spendy for a food cart
Some of the best chicken I've ever had . Full of flavor . Just perfection is the way to put it. Food people need to check this out for sure
The owner thinks seems to think any POC who are there to order are homeless and will/hass call/called the police. Racism tastes bad.
Great place to get a lunch. You can sit outside with nice music. Great food and very nice service!
My go-to for roasted chicken take out. The chicken, potatoes, salad, and chimichurri are delicious. I keep coming back for more.
This is a ridiculously racist establishment. The food and quality of service is poor. I wish I could give it no stars!
The food is sub par. However, the owner is a pos which makes the food even worse
I first tried Chicken and Guns from their food cart at an event and was sad to find that my potatoes were incredibly too crispy - overcooked- and the Aji sauce seemed to be pretty flat in flavor. I gave them a second try one day while at the food cart pod on 12th and Hawthorne, going in with the mindset that everyone has off days. Unfortunately, I came to find that the only thing this place is consistent in is poor service and poorly cooked food. The Tacu Tacu I received had rice that was hard and crunchy and the plantains were under seasoned. I ended up tossing the meal. I highly recommend taking your money elsewhere. Anywhere else really.
Good flavor on the chicken and potatoes were great. Only negative was the chicken skin was rubbery. Definitely worth another shot.
My partner and I have ordered (for delivery) a chicken to split and potatos with extra aji sauce several times and we couldn't be happier! We eat our fill and have leftovers for lunch the next day. The chicken has always been done to perfection, juicy with a smoky flavor and crisp skin. The potatos range from well done to a tad over-fried, but the way they season them and with the dipping sauce, they're impossible to stop eating until I've had a few too many. We love chicken & guns!
Damn good food. Those potatoes are out of this word! Had to try it after all the TV spotlights and it did not disappoint.
These are probably the best wings I've had to this day. The guys were very nice and friendly. We asked what kind of stuff was around and he told us a few places. Then he gave us a magazine with different restaurants and the guy who gave us the magazine was in the magazine. He was the owner and had an article about this truck in there. Anyways they are good wings with unique flavor cooked perfectly.
Excellent wood grilled chicken plus crispy fried potato chunks (aka chicken and guns). The potato chunks (guns) are super crispy on the outside while remaining soft on the inside (the result of being baked, then boiled or steamed, and then flash fried, in a process that takes place over a day or more, according to the friendly guy who served us). Part of the popular Cartopia pod. We'll be back often.
awesome to see the Hawthorne food cart area renovated, Chicken and Guns is a great addition, the guns were delicious, double friend potatoes, chicken was juicy and had a bit of dry rub. the Peruvian Aji is the winner which makes the meal delicious. customer service is ok, the guys are chefs and executing their food. they just didn't seem friendly or interested in interacting with customers.
Everything was done really well
Fun place to eat at. Their chicken was seasoned well. And I enjoyed their sweet sauce too. Their "Guns" were pretty good as well, some of them were a little to crispy though. I would recommend this place to friends and family though!
Good chicken. But salad was trying too hard. And staff were hit and miss on service. Some friendly. Some acted like they couldn't be bothered.
Delicious chicken! Huge portion.
Best chicken in town (at any price) Very moist and flavorful, wood grilled dankness. gets even better with the amazing aji sauce. The best part yet is being local organic pasture raised chicken(scratch farms) The guns (chunky potato skins) are also to die for for. For dietary reasons I skip the potatoes (very sad but I need to get ripped) and now get their salad instead. It's usually a bit dry for my taste but is great covered in aji (I love cilantro) Being pumped full of antibiotics my entire childhood, I cannot consume low grade meat without allergies, asthma, sinus pressure etc.
An absolute must try!
Overpriced.
Was looking forward to trying this place until we read the reviews and we will not support a business like this and looks like Portland either. So we went to Lardos is across the street and it was Awesome!!!
Ate here 4 times..... Chicken: Like others said, 2 times Chicken was under cooked ( had red blood coming out of the chicken). 2 times barely cooked. Forget taste - Can end up in hospital with serious health issues. The place itself and the guys working there, doesn't seem to be very hygienic either. Potatoes: Very dry but tastes ok with sauce. Conclusion: wood chip smoke and sauce draws people here. But try Chicken and Guns at your own health risk.
Nice and cozy place
The chicken was very moist and the chimichurri sauce was delicious with the potatoes.
The owner & employees of this establishment are avidly racist, prejudice, & openly discriminatory. This unoriginal "business" deserves no support whatsoever. For amazing, ethnically inspired chicken from a non-bigoted hypocrite try the following: Arrosto, Nong's Khao Man Ghai, Screen Door, or Pok Pok Wing.
This place is ridiculously mediocre and honestly extremely disappointing. I’ve tried Chicken and Guns on two separate occasions and both times left me hungry, unhappy, and dissatisfied. You’d think that a food cart with such wonderful aesthetic would have big flavors in their dishes and huge portions but this not the case whatsoever. The food is pitifully bland. I mean seriously, unacceptably bland. I had to add a silly amount of salt to my tiny portion of overpriced chicken for it to be even moderately enjoyable. The sauces are simple in a dissatisfying manner. Nothing here resembles flavor in the slightest. Unfortunately, this chicken joint entirely misses their mark and would benefit from putting as much effort into their cuisine as they put into the aesthetic of their cart. Chicken and Guns’ food is downright laughable and wouldn’t survive as a permanent brick-and-mortar type fixture in any market, anywhere.
Salsa is that die for and the guns (potatoes) are so good!
I arrived around 5:30pm and placed a pretty big order for our group of 3, lol. Our food arrived quicker than expected and the staff was kind and even helped me bring my huge order to our table. The wings are my favorite and the guns are addicting. The salad is fresh as well. I will be back! Thanks for the experience!
The staff is extremely rude. I will never forget back
Wonderful chicken can beat that green sauce.
Just visited this lovely place, and had a wonderful experience. Simple menu, simple and fresh ingredients, fast service, very reasonably priced, cool atmosphere, and killer food. If they sold jars of their sauce they make I would have my pantry stocked with it!
Best chicken in Portland with a chill patio with fire pits to relax at
Calls cops on black customers and supposedly threatened to snap the neck of the guys dog if he wouldn’t leave. Cute story.
I could drink the aji sauce.... For real
The employee taking orders should not be working in a customer service position. It was bad to the point that i wouldn’t eat here again if I saw he was working. The “guns” were delicious. the chicken had amazing flavor but was super dry. The Peruvian Aji sauce was the best part of the meal, and they don’t make it themselves.
The wings are amazing man!!! The potato’s were a little crunchy over fried but delicious.
Love this food truck! The chicken is so good and the potato “guns” are heavenly.
Everything on the menu sounded so good I had to try a few things. The guns were crunchy and delicious, and the beans and rice were very good too. They had a ton of sauces that you could toss in too and it was a big mess of yummy
Great food as always, I've been coming back Everytime. The menu is so good, it's always hard to decided what I want. So, I recommend anyone to go multiple times to try everything out. And trust me, you'll enjoy it so much.
Chicken was juicy, guns were very crispy. Both sauces were great.
This place is great! Love the wings, the seasoning is just right and not over powering. Love how the wings are actually big full size wings. The habenaro sauce is on point!
The best chicken in Portland, if you like smoked chicken and who doesn't?!??!
One of our favorite food carts ever! It's also a great place to bring out gluten free friends! Those potatoes are absolutely sinful and the salad is always fresh with fun veggies!
I understand why they are famous. Chicken is so juicy & tender inside and with peruvian aji sauce, the whole dish is perfect. I recommend extra sauce.
Awesome food truck. Stop here whenever I'm in Portland.
Horrible food , customer service was terrible... I would never recommend eating at this low class food establishment ..... the owner and employees have no respect they told me I was a worthless human all because I asked for extra ketchup then they told me never to come back or they would kill me dog
Cartopia is one of the best places to get food in the city
I don't even like meat on the bone and I can't get enough of these. I save the bones and make smokey bone broth with the scraps.
The "guns" (fried potatoes) were really, really good. We got a half chicken and it was good but it just felt like it was on the edge of undercooked... personally, I would have preferred it just a little more cooked even if it was less tender as a result.
First time and definitely not my last, love the location, the food was amazing. Super excited about the late night hours, as I am a night owl. Super chill vibe, good music and food and a cozy fire to sit by!
A serious must eat if you want delicious chicken, potatoes or salad! My partner and I usually split a half chicken with potatoes and salad and we are never disappointed. The location and food pod are one of the best in the area and we love going there every time! I love how excited the staff got when they saw my excitement about the food! You can tell the food is made with care and pride.
Unwelcoming atmosphere, decent, but overall lousy chicken; certainly overpriced.
The very first time I had chicken and guns I loved it. Great chicken, great potatoes and the Peruvian aji sauce is to die for. Last night I was extremely disappointed in the man who took and prepared my order. I go there frequently so I knew the staff of the food cart, super chill dudes and nice. But I don’t recongnize this man from yesterday night. He wasn’t polite and served me a huge price of uncooked chicken and burnt potatoes, which has never happened to me in the 10 times I have been there so far. Usually the guys knew who I was and hooked me up because they know i am a regular and get the $16 half chicken with guns and Peruvian aji. I would rate this place 5 stars without doubt but last night was really bad and for that I rated at 3. It was so bad that i don’t know if I wanna return.
So good. The crispy skin and crispier potatoes rock my world. The half chicken is good for sharing.
Best chicken I've ever had. Truly didn't know chicken could taste so delicious! Brandon was an exceptional/knowledgeable and friendly host! Can't say thank you enough!!
We had the chicken and guns with the Peruvian sauce, out of this world! Sauce is flavorful and chicken was perfectly smoked!
The wings are sooo good!!! The two sauces that come with them are perfect with them. The guns are season just right and with the Peruvian aji they are delicious. Will definitely stop by again when in the area
This place is consistently awesome. Chicken tastes AMAAAZING! Peruvian Aji sauce is my definite favorite. Fast, polite, never a long wait. (This is a food truck in an outdoor venue. There are shelters for cold weather. Open late!)
We loved the crispy potatoes! The chicken was good (a tad bit dry) but the potatoes killed it. We tried both the sauces and liked them both. The creamy one is a bit spicy but had great flavor and the chimichurri was my favorite.
Good chicken, but the restroom is so gross
The wings was on point! The sauce is
Wow quarter chicken and guns (potatoes) are the shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiz
Racist establishment! Owner will harass you if you're a person of color, ask if you're homeless, accuse you loitering, and call the police if you don't leave. Many people have told me that food isn't good anyway. Dry chicken and poor execution on "Peruvian" food. What a joke. Steals ideas from people of color, doesnt invite them to eat at the table. don't waste your time.
AWESOME FOOD! very reasonably priced. Staff was great.
Best chicken I’ve ever had hands down. Impossible for me to describe the flavor so you’ll just have to try it for yourself
My potatoes were dry and hard to chew. The chicken looked under cooked and showed some red blood. The sauce was completely made out of oil and looked like they sprinkled it with some cilantro. The cashier guy was rude and cocky. The food did not taste that good. And it was $20 bucks for some meat and potatoes. I’m disappointed with my food.
Love their chicken. Not the biggest fan of their sides, but the sauce is delicious and service quick.
If you haven't been to Chicken and Guns you are missing out. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were nice and crispy. But the best part was the Peruvian aji sauce.
