best sweet potato fries i’ve ever had! breakfast sausage frittata and french omelette were great. not many people do french omelette and it makes a difference! also very cool space for music.
I had their French toast and instantly became fluent in French! The food is delicious, coffee is great, and fun atmosphere!
Bougie cafe was great! Joking aside, it is a nice place. Great service and food! It is a little spendy and portion sizes are a little on the small side for some, but its all locally sourced high quality ingredients so its worth it.
Great food. Friendly service. Another breakfast favorite.
Delicious food, friendly service, always good gf options. Celiac friendly.
Great food, busy but we didn't wait too long for a table. Delicious hash and donuts.
My brother and I have been coming her for a decade. The Omelettes are what I order every time and they are fantastic. If you like amazing, fluffy and melt in your mouth omelettes...you better come here. I hope the owner doesn’t change a thing!
Our favorite brunch place in Portland! My husband and I practically live here on the weekends. The service, food and ambience is fantastic.
Awesome spot for breakfast made from largely organic local producers! Wish I had found this spot in time to try lunch and dinner.
Wait for a spot took forever(1 hour 5 minutes while being told 20-30 minutes initially) but the food was really good and our server was incredibly nice. People were saying they didn’t want my service animal in their face while he was lying down at least 4 feet away and she told them she couldn’t say anything because he is a Service animal. Small kindness but greatly appreciated.
Absolutely amazing! Biscuits are some of the best I’ve ever had. The flat iron steak had so many different flavors. 100% would recommend
Great if you like breakfast. Def have to eat here if your visiting through Portland.
First time in Portland and stopped here for brunch. Just had the Willapa Bay Oyster Hash - best brunch dish I have had in years. You know you’re in good hands when you walk through the door, the cooking smells incredible. I definitely recommend eating here, really excellent.
It was worth the wait to be seated & enjoy a fresh, tasty breakfast. We ordered from the blackboard Specials posted near the entrance: German pancake filled with blueberries & accompanied by lemon curd, & an omelette with bacon, feta cheese & green onion with a side of roasted potatoes.
Delicious omelets and buttermilk biscuits!
Fast and friendly service, yummy food. At 10:30 AM on a Thursday morning we were seated immediately. The cinnamon french toast and the sausage were delicious. Would visit again.
Even though they often have a line of people the food is nothing special. Cool atmosphere with fairly mediocre omelets. I got a steak just as my friend, however mine was smaller and less grits. I guess it is hard to make dishes consistent when they have to serve so many people. Overall the place is fair not great. Come check it out.
Best biscuit ever! Everything delicious, efficient friendly service, loved it.
This place is pretty cool.
Lovely breakfast place. I went there for breakfast. I was waiting for my friends for about 20min or so before we ordered. The waitress was so nice and friendly. She did not rush me. This was the first time I tried French omelette. It was different but good. Parking was convenient. There were several streets around having opening spots.
seriously the best pancakes i have ever had!
Great brunch to which I would go back for. A number of non-standard items that makes for an interesting meal. Bit of a wait to get in, but the 10 mins spent waiting was worth it.
Amazing chicken!!! Sauce was amazing
Bit of a wait but the French omelettes were amazing and worth it.
So many blueberries on the delicious German pancake
Yummy breakfast. Must visit!!
The food here is incredible. The staff have always been helpful and courteous. We try to visit this restaurant every time we are in Portland. It’s hard to go wrong with anything in the menu. The prices are reasonable.
Great brunch spot! The food is consistently good and the staff are professional and friendly.
The fried chicken and griddlecake was delicious! The griddlecake was so fluffy. The house coffee was meh. The side of sauteed mushrooms was a bit too oily for me.
The Bijou is a Portland landmark for breakfast, and the food is still great. I had the buttermilk fried chicken with a pancake, and it was delicious, the chicken was moist and cooked to perfection. Still a great choice for any-day brunch after all these years.
Fast friendly service. Food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Great place to go for breakfast/brunch.
Love this place, but wish they would add more vegan/veganizable options to their main menu
Good food, good coffee, and good specials.
One of the best places for breakfast in Portland. Friendly and efficient service and lots of high quality and healthy options. The buttermilk pancakes are great with real maple syrup. Very busy on weekends.
The omelets are perfect, smooth, not overcooked, not undercooked. The service is amazing and personable. First time in town and I feel like a regular here.
Great food but a little pricey. Good place for a casual yet sophisticated business lunch and has vegan friendly options. Wait staff is awesome. Never had bad customer service.
I love this place! The omelettes are fabulous. And the location in downtown Portland near the river makes it one of my favorites.
Best French style omelette ever, farmers omelette. Gene
Whenever we come to Portland, or someone wants a suggestion for great food, Bijou is the first place that comes to mind, always. The quality and pride that goes into their food shows on the plate everytime. They also support local! Best brunch spot in Portland, hands down.
Really good brunch! The dishes are quite big.
Delicious food. Very friendly staff. I will be back.
Really liked this place! It's a nice little cafe in Downtown Portland and has plenty of nice breakfast options for diners. The wait staff is very nice and cheerful (they frequently refill your coffee and I think that's great!). I ordered a fine herb omelette with salad and it was quite good. They also ask in advance if you like your omelet soft. My friend got potatoes on the side and they were pretty good! Giving it a 4 star because I thought the place was little expensive.
I just happened to walk by this place decided to try on a whim. I am very glad I did. I ordered their special breakfast which is Roasted Chicken Hash with wild mushrooms, two egg any style (I ordered mine sunny side up) and wheat toast. The roasted chicken was very juicy and the potato with wild mushrooms are very tasty. This is a great departure from the standard American breakfast fare.
Delicious brunch, friendly service and good prices
Some of the best breakfast. They aren’t afraid to experiment and their staples are awesome.
The service was so great, we were seating quickly every time we visited, the food was always perfect and their breakfast spirits are incredible! Zero complaints... and the hot sauce on the tables are the perfect addition!
Best biscuits ever! Like my grandmas
Unparalleled in quality and service. Best brunch downtown and high on the list for Portland. Make sure to check the special board. Never been disappointed.
Nice to revisit an old Portland standby. 40 years in business. My tofu scramble was over seasoned with dry herbs but my partners omelette was delicious
About 15-20 mins wait on a Sunday, but the service is good. The Shakshouka was yummy, and so were the fluffy French style omelettes.
Nice little place to get breakfast. It was packed and there was a wait but it wasn't too bad. Staff seemed a bit harried, however. Food was good and had some clever flavors.
Delicious and fun spot for brunch. The servers were very accommodating. Check this place out! You will not be dissapointed.
This is one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. A friend and I split the fried chicken and pancakes, and one of their omelettes, and everything was incredible. The omelette was the single softest, fluffiest, silkiest egg dishes I’ve ever had - I even asked our waitress how they prepared the eggs bc it was so striking. The pancakes and fried chicken were also so dang good - the pancakes were the perfect level of sweet, not at all heavy or over filling, and the chicken wasn’t too heavily breaded, so you really get a nice amount of super moist chicken.
Loved it. Food was great, different combinations which were interesting and tasted great. Service was fantastic.
Fresh/refreshing for old town! I had the freshest and zestiest Cesar Salad, I'm craving it just thinking about it! Beautiful bloody marry as well and a good selections on draft.
Great breakfast. Food is from scratch. Staff were efficient and attentive. Look forward to eating here again soon.
Was my favorite place for 7am breakfast meetings when I worked. But I was reminded today that in retirement it's even better for leisurely 10am breakfasts with young and old friends. Best wait staffs in Portland with great food, great purveyors and great cooks.
Herb omelette is amazing! Can add veggies to it as well!
The omelettes (French Style) are the best, most delicious, amazing creations ever. DO NOT have the chef prepare your omelette the way you think you like it... let them do their thing, you will not regret it. Best ever. You might want to get a side of grilled cinnamon toast as well. Yummy!! Our cocktails were worth it too. We arrived just before 9:00am on a Saturday, we walked right in. But by the time we were leaving, there was quite a wait.
Whitney is amazing! She goes way above and beyond! She’s all about hot sauce and helping out Seattleites.
My wife and I eat here most every weekend and we are never disappointed. The food is fresh, organic and local. The staff is friendly and efficient. A must visit for all Portlanders and tourists too.
Best omelet I have ever had! Quality ingredients and it shows.
Awesome food and great service. I will return.
Delicious! We ate it all!
Spicy jalapeno Bloody Mary's, griddle cakes and buttermilk fried chicken for brunch weekday or weekend. Lovely staff with long tradition of serving Portlanders and travelers.
Pretty good bunch. I had the cauliflower and kale hash and I was pretty impressed. I would definitely go back.
Good food, unique takes on old favorites, but delicious, served quickly, with great service. Thanks Matt!
Simply awesome. Don’t sleep on the sausage or cranberry juice.
When I moved to Portland five years ago the first place I had breakfast at was the Bijou Cafe. I have never been an omelette fan, but I was assured that the omelettes here were “the best”, especially the oyster omelette. How could I resist?! Five years later I am a regular, not only addicted to the perfectly prepared, soft, silky egg wrapping that holds sweet, caramelized onions, salty, smoky bacon, and crispy yet juicy and luscious fried oysters, but also the welcoming atmosphere, the wonderfully gracious, knowledgeable and attentive staff and the overall good vibe here. Plus, if you want local, seasonal, fresh, thoughtful food, and the best biscuits and gravy (IMHO) in town, check this place out. It is a Portland classic and shouldn’t be missed, whether you are local, or visiting.
Great, quick food. Seasonal fruit was perfect, not that normal "side of fruit" you expect.
Our server (wish I could remember her name! Short hair, brunette, very friendly) served my two friends and I and was fantastic! She went above and beyond, checked back at the right moments, was commercial and knowledge. We had a great time and she was a big part of it
Awesome brunch!
Really good breakfast and brunch place. We go here every time we visit Portland. I highly recommend the Fried Chicken and pancake! Even though it was breast meat, it was juicy and delicious. I usually combo breakfast with Stumptown next door for some good coffee.
Had the Farmer's Omelette and the Bloody Bijou. Not hyperbole, those were best iterations of each I've ever had. Warning, though: the omelette will ruin all other eggs for you!
Amazing omelettes! I never get omelettes at restaurants because they are always overcooked, but at Bijou they cook their omelettes PERFECTLY. The French would definitely approve of these omelettes and their baveuse.
Delicious. Bit spendy but worth it
The food and our server were superb!
Great brunch place to get your day started! We ordered buttermilk chicken and their summer special with bacon. The bacon is cooked to the perfect texture, not too hard and not too chewy. The chicken is crispy and the meat is really juicy. However it is not seasoned enough as the taste is a bit plain. The ambience was lively so it helped me to wake up as well! EDIT: Docking two stars as they charged me twice and each one has the wrong amount.
astounding omelets! Their muffins and biscuits were incredible too! Friendly staff, not a bad wait - maybe 10 mins. Great place! Would recommend!
Excellent food and service. The egg omelets are the best in Portland.
Amazing food. Worth the wait. Absolutely get an omelette and add a biscuit. Plus tomatoes and avocado. Best omelette. Super soft. Lavender iced tea was delicious. Can't wait to go back! And server was really nice with great recommendations.
Outstanding ingredient quality. Their cold pressed cranberry juice was absolutely phenomenal, as was my omelette. Our waiter was attentive, and the staff was super nice. As a warning, be sure to stay while you wait; if you aren't present when they call your name, they will cross it off of the wait list. Definitely worth the time.
Cute little place a block away from mother's. Fresh ingredients and super nice knowledgeable staff. The special frittata of the day was delicious.
Great menu and service.
Best Omelettes ever!!! Always stop for breakfast here while we are in town.
Super delicious. Got one of their seasonal hashes and was in heaven!
Bijou might not look like much from the sidewalk, but don’t let the humble diner vibes scare you off. The brunch menu at Bijou is filled with the standard fare, plus a great set of spicy hash dishes (cauliflower and kale hash was amazing!) and a la carte options. Be sure to try the local hot sauces on your eggs!
Incredible food. Such a great breakfast spot, and the German pancake was incredible!
Just had breakfast here and it was delicious! Staff was super friendly and quick (we had to dash in, eat quickly, and dash out for work). Brioche French toast, bacon & goat cheese omelette, cappuccino- all made perfectly. Our server was so nice and accommodating. Wish I caught her name. Love that they serve locally made hot sauces. We will definitely come back and will recommend this place to others. Glad I randomly found it when searching breakfast spots near us!
Always love breakfast here. Easy to see why it's so popular. One of the best places for a great breakfast anywhere.
Great, low key breakfast joint that has delicious food without the frills or hype.
Good food, good people
I used to eat breakfast here 1-2 times a month but I had not been here for 8 years. I'm pleased to tell you it felt like the same great place. I had Chorizo hash with poblanos. Delicious with a good dose of heat and 2 perfectly poached eggs. My friend had a batter coated chicken breast with a buttermilk pancake and his was delicious also. It was really satisfying.
Bijou is my favorite place in Portland for breakfast! Their French style omelettes are so delicious, they melt in your mouth. I always choose one of their specials with fresh, local ingredients, which never disappoint. They offer many different bread options, all very tasty, and their coffee drinks are top notch.
Convenient location. As is typical with downtown, parking is difficult. The food is good but the selection is limited. Cute place for breakfast though. Lots of locals use it for working breakfasts.
Truly extraordinary omelette, perfect potatoes, and the biscuit of my dreams.
This place is a must for breakfast omelets! Think french! My wife had the oyster omelets, which I was skeptical of, but to my surprise, they were delicious! The waiting line is worth the wait!
Came here for Sunday brunch. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was FANTASTIC. Loved the cauliflower & kale hash, korean pork, fried chicken & cornmeal pancakes, and several omelets. And their orange juice really is fresh squeezed. Biscuits were good, too. We will definitely be back!
Very nice area, nothing over whelmingly amazing but good. Staff was a bit cold, but they were busy. Food was small portion, and I'm not a fan of salad with my Eggs Benedict. They do however get points for a very good spicy bloody Mary!
Such a quaint little gem. My wife said it's the best omelet she's had since being in Paris. I had their bacon and eggs, also very good. Eggs are nicely soft cooked and tender.
Excellent service and decent food. They are known for their scrambles. I like the Oyster hash.
We had the special of biscuits and gravy and the fried chicken with pancakes. GREAT! Also had bloody Mary's. They are spicy and great! Great brunch place after the Saturday market
The wait for a table was well worth it,the food was excellant
The food is overpriced and under seasoned. The service wasn't bad, but it is also very crowded, loud and cramped.
So good. We went because our other option had too long of a wait. So glad we came. Delicious food and our server was so fun.
Really disappointed that I was told after I was seated with my wife, 2 kids and elderly parents that a party of 6 would automatically be charged a 20% tip. I wasn’t about to make an issue with my family already seated so I payed the $18 shakedown for at best basic dinner service. Would be 1 star but the food was excellent.
We were told the food here is good but never found out. I called ahead and was told you must be present in person to make a reservation. When we arrived, we signed up on the wait list and read the strict rules posted by the sign up sheet. We were the next party up and watched the staff set up two tables of six or eight, even though there wasn’t anyone before us on the list and nobody else in the lobby. We looked around and saw several empty tables that were available but not being filled. As we stood there waiting and watching, the energy of the staff felt hectic and annoyed, so we left. Maybe they were short staffed? Regardless, our experience wasn’t as great as others.
Terrific food and great people on board.
Best hash I've had
Staff was really friendly, and even though everywhere else seemed packed on a busy Sunday morning brunch rush, we were seated at Bijou within 20 minutes. I had a butternut squash and yam hash, which was a special that day, and it was phenomenal! My buddy had the biscuits and sausage gravy, which he claims was really delicious as well. The atmosphere was as you'd expect for a brunch rush, a little crowded, and noisy. Not a good time for an intimate brunch, that's for sure. 10/10 on top of Portland's brunch game! Definitely will be going there again.
Pricey, but delicious. Oyster omelet is a must for all my seafood connoisseurs
Great service with attentive servers who got me everything before I could even ask. The bacon and iced tea were amazing. There's a "slow food" warning but my bacon & eggs came quickly. The tax was included in the prices, which I loved. It was pricey, in my opinion, despite the excellent service. $11 for bacon, eggs, potatoes, and toast. However, the ambiance is charming and well done, so I suppose it's worth it.
Amazing food. Their omelette are superb. They are undercooked for most so ask for well done if you don't like runny eggs. The baguette could have been toasted but I didn't ask. They were open on Aug protest Saturday and we're only a couple of blocks from the protest. Kudos for them not closing down like so many shops who bought the fear mongering for Mayor Wheeler. A+ from me
My wife and I go here when we want to treat ourselves. They have really good food. I didnt say cheap food. You get your monies worth tho.
Great burger special. Great food. One of my favorite lunch spots. Friendly staff. Excellent service.
Great food. Perfect portions. Cozy atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Great breakfast venue in downtown Portland. There is an excellent selection for breakfast and brunch. Coffee was decent. Really enjoyed the food. Recommended.
Good breakfast place. Try the cinnamon toast it’s exceptional. Good service. Good menu lots of options, such as a variety of French style omelettes, breakfast basics, brunch items include flat iron steak, Korean style beef, buttermilk fried chicken, oyster hash, Chorizo hash, lunch items include RuBEN, oyster sandwiches burgers soups and salads...came in on a Friday about 12:30 PM and only waited about 10 minutes. I recommend.
Excellent food. I had the oyster omelet and I thought it was very good. The flavors were very well coordinated. Service was incredible!! Dansy was a fabulous waitress. Prices were reasonable for the quality.
One of the best omelette I have ever had. Amazingly well cooked, right amount of runny with crisp potatoes inside. The german pancake was an indulgence, oh yum! Awesome london fog too. Highly recommended. Gets a bit busy, so get here early.
Yum! Took my kids and their GFs. Had a great time.
Fabulous breakfast! The omelets are also perfect!
Good breakfast, not a huge selection and a little pricey
Great service and better food
Yum yum yum! This is love. Everything is fresh and the staff were delightful.
Visited the Bijou Cafe while checking out the Portland Saturday Market. Was surprised to get immediate seating. The hostess as well as the waitress were extremely friendly. Ordered the bloody Mary, it was made with their in house jalapeño infused vodka. It was delicious! I was extremely impressed with the menu that was a mix of comfort food and health inspired options. All of which is made with locally procured produce, breads, meats, and cheeses. Amazing little joint.
I would give them 5 stars if the waiter wasn’t too busy to check on us and ask if we need anything. He never came to refill our “very small” glasses of water until we asked him to.
Always delicious!
Wonderful!!! Great farm to table breakfast. Will return soon.
Great food and Amazing service!!
Delicious brunch. Superb wait staff. Excellent experience. Visiting from out of town we came across the Bijou as a brunch option. We could not have enjoyed our time more. Well done!
People and atmosphere is awesome....very urban. Food is great
Great and efficient service. Fantastic food and condiments. Serving sizes were just right for us, but may be a bit small for others. Amazing dining experience, even with a table full of kids. Has an auto-gratuity of 20% for groups of 6 and above, but definitely well-worth it.
Really good food and tea- underrated compared to the other brunch lines. Got a nice chic setting and really attentive servers.
My favorite omelette in town! By far! I love coming to Bijou because the customer service is incredible, there's almost never a wait to sit at the bar and it is absolutely one of the best breakfasts in town. I always have a great conversation with a server. I often go here by myself and find it totally enjoyable. It's also nice with a friend or a group. I particularly liked that they source a lot of their ingredients seasonally and locally.
It's kid friendly. Pancakes on the menu are called Griddle Cakes. Also great service too.
Great food. Much of it local. Must go breakfast whenever we are in Portland.
You can get seated super quickly if you come on a weekday after 10am. The food was decent but pretty overpriced. About $25 for one pancake, fried chicken and cup of OJ. Service is super slow when it comes to getting served or picking up the bill at the end. Wouldn’t come here again and pretty surprised it has such a high rating to be honest.
Skip Mother's. Come here!
After almost thirty years, still one of - if not the - best breakfasts in town. You won't be disappointed..
Whole lotta yep! Friendly, efficient staff. Excellent food! Great way to spend a Saturday brunch.
Very strict rules for the waiting list, so we stayed and waited 20 minutes while three tables were empty. We we're next on the list party of two, and they wet up the tables for four? We left. The energy there is aggressive not customer friendly. Food looked good though.
Great place with awesome food. The coffee was not so good though
I came here on a Saturday. It was not busy, we got a table right away. Then it took over 30 minutes for a waitress to bring us water and take our order. The waitress was slow, the service was terrible. The food over priced... $10 for a mimosa?! Also none of the drinks were on the menu so I had no idea how much it was. I assumed $8 but was shocked when I got my bill. Small portions, over priced food. I left the waitress a small tip( which I NEVER do, I worked as a server and I know how it is. I always generously tip). When the charge came through on My card on Monday, I noticed that they had added an extra 6 dollars onto the tip that I had actually given. Wow really! I did not sign for you to leave that extra amount. I called 3 times to talk to a manager and was told they would get back to me. I have yet to hear from anyone. I didn't know they could just write in whatever amount they wanted to. I did not authorize the transaction they ran. It's a SERVICE. Why should I leave you a large tip on top of my over priced brunch if your service was lacking? I will never return here and will suggest to all my friends and co-workers to NOT visit this establishment. Just another over priced hipster place in Portland. Like we need anymore.
Great food and service
Very hearty breakfast options, sadly they won't do egg whites. Seriously hospitable serving staff.
This place is wonderful. Cozy and tasty food with great drinks! I will return for more friendly service that didn't rush us at Saturday brunch. The tuna melt is the best I have had in many years! Or maybe ever and the bloody Mary was too good to be guilty about!
This was a nice bistro located close to the riverfront near downtown Portland. They offer unique daily specials and as well as regular menu items that are a little off the norm, but very tasty all the same. We were pleasantly greeted by our host and immediately seated. Our server was equally as pleasant and you got a sense that they cared about giving you the best possible service at all stages of your dinning experience. On the specials board the day we ate was a Duck Confit Eggs Benedict. It was amazing. There was lots of richly flavorful duck meat and a elegant sauce and delicately pouched egg all over polenta verses an English muffin which just made the dish all that much more impressive to me. It all got balanced off my a light salad of greens on the side. Something that was unexpectedly out of this world for sure. We also ordered the oyster omelette which seemed to be one of their signature dishes. The omelette it's self was prepared French style which is a more delicate preparation then a regular omelette so that the egg wasn't as hard cooked. The oysters were great inside, but they used way to much caramelized onions which kind of over dominated the omelette and defeated the focus of the oysters. I regret not getting the German style pancakes. Saw some other tables ordering it and it looked just as amazing and the pictures I saw posted here on Yelp when I was contemplating on where to go for breakfast. It overall was a good dinning experience and would recommend it to others. If in Portland again, I will go back to try those German pancakes for sure. Bon Appétit!
The best breakfast that you will have in this area! I don’t know why this place has only +500 reviews, this place deserves +3.000 reviews! Great local and fresh ingredients, excellent taste, excellent staff, and fair price!
Best brunch, excellent staff, Illy coffee and espresso, loose leaf tea served with a smile. A great place for everyone.
Awesome service, and best of all the beautifully prepared food. Thanks, again... great end to our Portland visit.
Delicious. Had breakfast twice over the long holiday weekend.
This place was so good, we both ordered off the specials menu but the menu had a good few things that sounded amazing. There was a line up but it moved very quickly especially for a Long weekend. Servers and hosts were very friendly and it was honestly so efficient
At Bijou, expect a brief wait 5-10 min. Their staff is really nice and very helpful. The menu is a bit limited, but they have rotating specials, soup and muffins. The soups are always good, but sometimes the specials are meh. But all in all, a very solid breakfast spot. Oh, try the campfire donuts, very tasty.
I LOVE the Bijou. A Portland classic. I had the roast chicken hash this time. It did not disappoint. Check it out.
Great food, busy on a Saturday but worth the wait. Bacon was awesome, as were the mimosas.
Great food. I had the strawberry muffin, which was amazing. They have a really nice selection and good coffee. It was pretty crowded when we got there, but the line moved really fast.
Excellent brunch and great service. Highly recommend alone of their daily specials from the chalk board. It can be pretty busy so recommend a table olong the walls or windows.
