REVIEWS OF Bamboo Sushi IN Oregon

Kristin Humphrey

My husband and I are very selective when it comes to dining at sushi restaurants. Bamboo, by far, has the best fish quality we have ever had. Even their rice is so good, it makes me wonder if they have hook-ups in Japan...Salmon and Trout belly were my favorite by far. Thank you for providing such wonderful fish, Bamboo.

Jesse Chase

The SW location has a great atmosphere, especially in the summer when they have indoor/outdoor seating. Starting off with the crispy cauliflower or tempura veggies is definitely recommended. The Green Monster and Friday the 13th have been our favorite rolls thus far (and we've tried most of them).

Danbi Won

All dishes I ordered came out too slow. I’d never come back to the restaurant

Ahad Subzwari

Really good sushi place with a variety of unique sushi rolls that I've never tried. The staff is very knowledgeable on their menu and will lead you to the right decision based on what you like. Short wait for dinner for two.

Max McCarty

Excellent sustainable sushi. A little pricey but worth it in flavor.

Sarah Kirk

Ethical sushi made delicious and easy. The garden of Eden roll is one of my favorites.

Joshua Oney

Great food, friendly staff, nice establishment. Some unique takes on sushi I had not seen before.

Nicola Zingarelli

Good, very good, I have nothing to say about the quality but I was not mpressed with the quantity. Tried the Albacore carpaccio and Seared Kamachi and got 4 slices of the first one and 5 of the other and I think it is a slim presentation for the price but being an European maybe I'm used to different pricings. Service was good too, wish we had at least a couple of candles on our outdoor table, couldn't see a thing

Kara Purcell Walsh

Great spot! Server was wonderful, had lots of great suggestions. Food was served quickly and everything was delicious. Priced reasonably for the quality of the food. Good location too, with several outdoor tables. Reservation recommended, was quite busy even on a Wednesday.

William Gi

$$$ As a sushi place, they do have fresh salmon, which is a(probably only) plus. They advertises as a environment-friendly (zero carbon?) restaurant, which doesn’t explain the less than tasty dishes. The roll, tempura and fried chicken were mediocre and we were not well fed given the price and they don’t serve main dishes like ramen or don.

Elyse Kerr

This place is heavenly. The fish was so fresh and the flavours were amazing and unique. Our server was lovely and bubbly, and shout out to one of the waiters who went out of his way to write down some local travel tips for us. This was greatly appreciated!

This restaurant is not for me. That's being said, let's dive into why that is. 1) Too expensive for the amount of food you get. I'm a Hawaiian man and I love my sushi. If you're looking for a good amount of sushi to fill you up, you won't find it here unless you pay a ridiculous amount of money. After a $70 meal for my wife and I, I left hungry and quite disappointed. 2) The sushi appears to be more experimental reimaginings of sushi rolls. Do not go here expecting any classic types of sushi. While I didn't dislike their sushi entirely, I did feel that their choice to have every roll be some weird combination of flavors to be a bit bothersome. Do not take someone who is new to sushi here, as it does not reflect most traditional sushi. 3) The tiny space is very crowded and not designed for the average male body in America. We are bigger people and need room to move. I had to constantly shuffle sideways to snake through chairs and past the bar just to get to the restroom. The one redeeming quality about this place is that they sustainably source their fish! That's a major plus for people looking to have dinner at a wildlife conscious business. This is a very rare thing to find in a sushi restaurant, and is a major plus for me even though I didn't enjoy my experience there. It made the price I spent sting a little less.

This place has excellent sushi that is made with great ingredients and you can taste the freshness! My reason for going 4 star instead of five star is based upon price, portion size, and the limited selection on the menu. Most items on the menu are around $15 dollars and you get a get small portion of those dishes, but they do taste great. I guess you'll have to decide if it's quality or quantity you like... I'm always looking for the perfect balance of both. We went here for a special occasion and they were really great about acknowledging that and even have us a free roll to celebrate with us! That was a really great touch!

Ryosuke Buffalochief

Small portions and overpriced. The taste was average. I was a bit disappointed in having smoked salmon instead of raw salmon in my chirashi bowl.

Jenna Weber

Great service at the bar. Highly recommend. The sushi here has fun toppings on it, so be aware it's not very traditional. However, I normally hate scallops and this place made me want more! Small space, but they were willing to store my luggage for me while I ate which was awesome.

Sam

Delicious! Wouldn't hesitate to go again. Loved sitting at the bar and watching my food be made.

TJ Dryver

The Sushi was delivered with a simple look of elegance that didn’t do the complex flavor any justice. It’s a shame the edamame beans came out only a few minutes before the first sushi roll. And getting more cucumber water seemed to be looked upon like it were a sin. But don’t worry, they will get you your bill before you’re done with the sushi. The chefs get a 5 star, the service gets a 1.

Jay Kothari

Love the fact that all of the sushi is fresh/ wild caught and all sustainable! I even enjoyed the vegetarian sushi (try the green machine!). Ambience is nice, staff is personable. What more can I say!

Alejandro Picazo

The best sushi I ever had hands down ,,the host told me it was prepaid while they sat me down I didn’t have a problem with that,so I order my food and paid afterwards. So while I was waiting for my food to arrive I see a lot of tables finish eating and then paying made me think they thought I was going to walk out or something that’s the only problem I had but the food made up for it

Antonio Atomic

Amazing service, really nice crowd and the place is beautiful! Most of all the food is incredibly delicious, could have spent my whole paycheck on sushi

Ty Visser

Great food, portions on some options were small for the price, would definitely go again though!

Jamerican Virgo

This has to be The Most Amazing Day Ever! This Place is so Awesome! The atmosphere ,the staff, the music, THE FOOD !!!! It’s All Awesomely Amazing!!!! You have to try the “Green Machine “, add your favorite fish.. You’ll Love It!!

Fred The Earthling

Always amazing tasting. Good sake. The service has fallen off. Some of our dishes were brought to other tables. Who ate it. We had to tell the waitress so we didn't get charged for "their" food.

עידן ברוך

cool place with a good vibe and food.

sarah burgart

We got the omakase, it was good, not great. Partially, that is because it was not spaced out; we had most of the dishes in front of us at the same time, the sake pairing was really more of a sake flight- they all arrived together as well. Service was lovely though, and I appreciated that you could send ahead food intolerances and allergies with the reservation.

Gabrielle Visco

Hoppin' spot, good idea to make reservations, friend of mine thought Friday 13th roll was delicious, I wasn't wowed by the cod plate but it was really good.

Victoria S

Good sushi place that uses fresh ingredients and offers unique plates. We ordered several plates, and I thought the trout was amazing, while my partner enjoyed the steak. Be advised that all the plates are a bit on the small side. We weren't disappointed but we probably won't go back.

Linda D

Wonderful sushi, the very best and the waygu burger was the best burger I ever had. Great service. Longish wait time but they do take reservations.

Ingrid Ingerson

Service was excellent, so was the sushi! We'll be back, thank you!

Krishna Kannan

Good sushi in a prime location, they have decent vegetarian options as well. Recommended if you are in the area

Ken Minn

Wasn't expecting a wait this late on a Sunday night but Awesome food & service!

Winst Harrison

Great place for fresh sushi! They sell a variety of sashimi over rice bowls and they have daily speciality items. It's tiny in here so keep that in mind as their might be a little wait. Very great, attentive staff and fabulous service. This is my second time here and they did not disappoint I will be back.

Rick Grossman

Great location, and the sushi is great! However, I give Bamboo 3 stars for their false advertisement of “sustainable sushi.” There is no such thing as sustainable sushi, and it’s a shame to seem them push a false narrative to their customers.

Dillon Rivera

I got my girlfriend to try sushi for the first time here and she liked it. I personally love this place and will be back for sure.

Kelly Watkins

This is hands down the best sushi I've ever had. The staff seemed really distracted both times I was there, and it was hard to get their attention. But otherwise, the service was good and the food was absolutely incredible. I am hooked on the green machine roll and the cauliflower appetizer was absolutely mouth watering. Love this place and will be back!

Nava

The quality of the food here is off the charts. All the seafood is so fresh and the flavor combinations are perfect and creative. The staff were so kind and patient. My husband and I went for our anniversary and it was lovely all around (food, service, and atmosphere).

Marypat Imlay

Great service even though it was busy. Very good food.

Murray Greenwood

Food was excellent. Ryan the bartender had great local advice and was a bit of a showman making well crafted drinks. I will be back!

Tom Battaglia

Fan-freakin-tastic. Food and service!

Tami Pettinger

The food was very very good and the service prompt. They explain everything well & were very interested in all of us having a good experience. We ordered lots of different plates and they were superb. Sustainable seafood makes this a restaurant that we know we will visit again. Favorite sushi in Portland.

Andrew Eliquen

I brought my parents with me to this place - but probably not a good idea. Though we enjoyed the food, we almost cannot hear each other with the loud music. As a millennial, this is more of a restaurant/bar that I will take my friends with. I had an interesting interaction with a hostess at this location: It was raining and I asked her where is a good spot to place my umbrella at and she responded with a smile and said "Yes". Clearly, she didn't understand what I said and she probably tried to dismiss me by saying "Yes". I asked again and she went up to a server who is Asian (I am Asian too) and asked him in front of me (In English) - "can you talk to him?" - like I wasn't in front of her.

JaeHee Cho

Mediocre sushi/sashimi. I don’t think I’ve ever been to actual tasty sushi restaurants in Seattle/Portland area. My hopes were pretty high due to pretty decent reviews, but after all they were probably from people who enjoy the vibe interior of this place rather than actual food taste and actual quality of fishes they serve (they were fresh, but they weren’t the high quality fishes for the price). I’d probably never go to any high end sushi places near Seattle and Portland. (Prob gonna go cheaper places for similar quality food).

Julie Ikeda

Loved that the seafood was sustainable and the restaurant is carbon neutral. Amazing quality of fish for the price.

Sean Kosofsky

Sooooo delicious. Great service

Kasandra Green

Great food, unique combinations. Would definitely go back.

Alexandru Rus

How this place got so many 5 stars reviews? Sushi was not that great very cheap looking spicy rolls and on top of that they don’t accept cash !! Definitely I’ll avoid this place next time

Pod Bluman

Whilst the food was great, the service good and the environment very pleasant, we had a troubling experience at Bamboo Sushi this evening. My partner is strongly allergic to avocado and she told this very clearly to our server, who also clearly acknowledged this information upon receipt. Very worryingly, when our order of tempura prawn rolls arrived about 10 minutes later, after I had already eaten one, my partner noticed that they did actually contain avocado. We were shocked and surprised and immediately informed the closest member of the waiting staff. He took it away and then our server came up and apologised and offered us a replacement without avocado. Our server then offered us a complimentary drink and that she would not charge us for the rolls with the avocado in them or their replacements. We said that we felt that making the meal complimentary would be more appropriate given the fact that my partner would have been hospitalized had she eaten the rolls with the avocado in them. The manager then came over and apologised for the error and said she was going to still charge us $30 for the meal. Our server then came over and we paid the $30 and left. We did not feel like having an argument over the $30 especially after the slightly traumatic experience that we1 just had. I would say that if you do have allergies when you go to this place, please do double check that they have acted upon and don't be surprised if they haven't taken your health into consideration in the way that they should. A restaurant has a duty of care with your health and I am not sure if this establishment understands this as well as they should.

Travis Motichek

Great food. We enjoyed everything we tried.

Ashley Steele

Interesting experience- the sushi was stellar but the atmosphere and service were rather sterile. Felt more like they were trying to turn tables than create an experience. However I will say after we worked on our waiter for a while he opened up and we had a great time.

Mimi Mecham

I came here on my 21st birthday & Levi was our server! He is the absolute sweetest, & gave the best recommendation for the Savory Albacore.

Tho Nguyen

Very nice, fresh fish and interesting choices of rolls and sashimi. The miso cured black cod is superb. The mackerel is just ok. High price point, though

Lisa Jones

Ahi poke bowl is a small portion, more of a starter unlike other sushi restaurants that serve this like a meal. Slow service. Sustainable, high quality fish. Would not go again.

DA Aspen

I tried to eat here. They seated me, brought me a menu, and when I was ready to order they informed me they don't take cash. My wallet was in my hotel room but I had plenty of cash in my pocket. It should be illegal for a business not to accept cash. Terrible business, I'll never go there again and I'll tell all my clients too.

Mark Steele

Only came here because had one of the best meals ever at their Denver location. Menu and food is the same. Sitting outside was outstanding in gorgeous weather. Service was not over the top, but never needed for anything. Only hoped they weren't out of the sake I wanted. We were able to make a quick audible that was delicious too at 15% more. Nice experience overall.

James Kim

Only couple of negatives: you need to work on your rice game. It should not crumble when I pick up my nigiri with chopsticks or dip in soy sauce. Also, all the seafood I had tasted just a tad bit fishy.

Celeste Carey

Beautiful, clean lines, no clutter interior. Large windows allow subtle light & people watching. Staff courteous & helpful. A bit pricey, but typical of downtown. I asked for a simple hand rolled tuna & avocado (not on the menu). The waiter & chef went the extra mile to add cucumber & radish sprouts. It was elegant and yummy! I'll be back.

Alex Dogson

Lazy, overpriced, made by people who don't actually care about food. I got an order delivery, they cancelled half the pieces and replaced it with tuna, didn't bother putting any wasabi or ginger in the box. Bamboo talks a big game about being super sustainable / ethical but it's just an excuse to overcharge hugely for a mediocre product. Boycott these people just for being jerks. They don't care about you at all.

Lo Gonzalez

Decent food, but our server was not very good. He forgot too bring us plates, he forgot too bring us more wasabi, when asked. Finally, we gave him our credit card and he totally forgot it and brought us the bill again! The sushi was good, thus the four Star rating.

Caleb Schnarr

Excellent service and the food was outrageous. Was recommended by our hotel bartender and he did not steer us wrong!

Brandy Allen

server was amazing but the food came out sooooo slooooow. it shouldn’t take almost 2 hours for 3 rolls to come out!

Tristin Crum

I've been here countless times, honestly the best sushi I've ever had, it's always a treat to come here but it's not cheap.

Greg Miller

Went for a solo lunch during the week- it was busy but was seated quickly. The sushi was phenomenal (I recommend the Friday the 13th Roll) although I did have to wait a while to get my food. Servers were very friendly and attentive

Clara Martinez

Best salmon nigiri I've tried (and I have been to Japan). This place was great: waiters were very nice, food was innovative and tasted amazingly. Would come back for sure.

yasmin ramirez

Wow. Just wow. My husband and I were staying in the area and the hotel recommended the restaurant. At first we were a little skeptical, but walked by and saw a packed restaurant with several dinner goers waiting, so it must be good right? Definitely make reservations! We went by at 7pm and opted for making a reservation at 9:15pm. We were happy to see there was space at the sushi bar. My husband and I love sushi (no cream cheese, not drenched in sauces, i.e. we want to taste the fish). If you really like sushi, sit at the bar and do the chef's choice menu. (I can't remember what it is called on the menu). Our chef was named Conner. Super young so were a little nervous, but again. Wow! All the dishes he served, a total of 6-7, were amazing. Like, speechless and chewing as slowly as possible so the flavor wouldn't end amazing. If you're in the area, go. You won't be disappointed.

Aaron Jurgens

The Octopus Nigiri was the best I've had in my life. Very complex flavors. Well worth a stop.

Ella Peltier

Service was great, the staff was very friendly and the hosts greeted us very nicely. The sushi was defiantly one of the bests I’ve ever had!! Defiantly will be coming back again!

Lauren Ramtahal

Make use of the happy hour, 3 to 6pm. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The menu is a bit pricey but you're paying for good quality

Tina Simmons

I love this place on so many levels. The staff is amazing, especially the GM, Jane, who makes sure everyone is having a premium experience. The food is outstanding, service efficient and courteous, but most of all, I love that they are ethical about their sourcing. Bamboo Sushi is a must if you're in Portland, and super close to Powell's which is a win/win ;)

Matthew Wilson

Kimono rolls were very light and refreshing, & we were offered a complimentary dish as thanks for first time customers. Friendly service, nice atmosphere. Would recommend!

N P

Consistently good Sushi. Conveyor belt sushi places come nowhere close to the quality of Bamboo Sushi. Do yourself a favor and try this place. It may be a little pricier than your strip mall conveyor belt sushi, but you will be amazed at the taste and quality. This restaurant uses sustainable local fish whenever possible, which is always a plus.

Brandon Rice

The food was amazing, creamy, flavorful, and fresh. Menu was a bit confusing and disorganized. Water was warm. Waitress seemed impatient. Will absolutely return to this place.

Doug Cisler

I really liked to this place. Great location next to my hotel and great ambience. The food was really good too. The unique spin on sushi. Unique combinations of flavors that I have not tasted before. I recommend this place if you like sushi and unique flavors.

Claire Zhang

Amazing food for 10 stars! Deserve to wait and wait in line. Not had a pleasure experience during waiting. The waiter said he would arrange us to sit in the bar directly and let us wait a while but not go to somewhere far. We sat down at the bench just next to him. However, many people coming after us directly serviced to sit in the bar area. Ok, I think we sat there around 15mins and asked when the seat would be ready. He totally forgot us!!! The food is amazing but we waited about 30mins for food! Other waitress/waiter are super sweet to intro the special source and what kind of fish for sashimi. Please don’t stop by in rush hours!

Travis W Keyes

Some pieces were so.e of the best I have had recently.. some not quit as good.. but overall this is a really good restaurant with good service and a nice comfy decor.. I would go back...

Dr. Jon Simon

I'd recommend the Garden of Eden roll.

David Leibner

I typically stay away from chains, even small ones but this place is awesome. Service as well as food was on point and there are so many tasty dishes on the menu.

Evan Sargo

S/o to John to Sushi chef. Sushi Served to perfection.

Lynda Bersani

Best service in town! The extensive sushi menu was impressive and identified not only the sources for the seafood but also the catching and harvesting methods for each item. We loved our choices of tempura and yakumi and will go back soon to taste more! The prices are reasonable for the super fresh, high quality offerings you get at Bamboo where the wait staff are well trained and attentive and the Manager circulates to assure total satisfaction. Her words? "We want everything to be - Wow!"

Mark Pescatore

Madison was excellent and customer focused! Food was amazing

Phil Gouy

Bamboo Sushi is one of the last places in Portland I want to get sushi. Unfortunately their quality is hit or miss. Long waits, average service with questionable freshness makes me never want to go back. The last three visits have been terrible. I have been going here since they first opened. Love the concept of sustainable sushi however they continue to fall short on quality

Catherine Jarocki

Hands down the best sushi I've ever had. I've been all over the world and have gotten to ear sushi at places like Nobu in New York City, and Bamboo tops them all. The staff were incredibly friendly, the chefs were talented and prompt, and the sushi was out of this world. I'm talking "depressed to eat the last piece" delicious, "the world seems darker now that the sushi is gone" delicious, "I'm dedicated to inventing time travel so I can reverse the clocks and eat that roll again" delicious. This was a great experience to say the least, and will be a regular stop on future visits.

Danielle Huck

The food and the service are always wonderful here. My husband and I love to do the Omakase meal. We're never disappointed. The only thing that kept me from giving a 5-star is the seating. The tables are extremely small and very close together. We could hear every word the people next to us were saying and even bumped arms/elbows a couple of times. For a pretty expensive restaurant, it would be nice to have a little more room to enjoy the delicious food.

Victor Gonzales

Amazingly friendly staff. Had m Probably my favorite sushi roll ever here. Delicious

Julie Hedford

From the presentation ugly food, to our server, to the taste buds on our tongue... everything was Exquisite!! my only complaint is that the person, who seemed to be the manager, always had a scowl on his face and when asked a question was curt, at best. And lastly their prices were quite spendy... but overall I give it a 4

Aidan Hale

One of the best sushi experiences I have ever had and I don’t say this lightly because I am nothing short of a sushi connoisseur! I was blown away by every bite! I would go here twice a week if I could. Your tastebuds will go on a wild journey to outer space and back.

Carl-Christoph Reckers

Love their approach to sustainable seafood. Fantastic services, especially by the very friendly Levi!

Sharon Stern

Truthful bamboo sushi review haiku. Bamboo sushi rocks Their food is only the best But it costs a lot Here's another. I order too much Because it tastes amazing Service is so good Seriously the food is amazing. Best sushi ever. Get the avocado inari. It's SO good

Satchel Hamilton

Excellent sushi! Growing up in Hawaii, I have pretty high standards when it comes to seafood, but Bamboo met and exceeded my expectations. Had the sunset roll and it was delicious. Very cool atmosphere, and they are all about sustainability. Will be back soon!

Ashley Kamren

Delicious as always! The green monster roll is surprisingly yummy. Didn't love the cucumber salad, but enjoyed every roll we got.

Devi Archana Das

The food is as always delicious. The green machine is recommended forever. I totally love it. The service was a tad little slow but they did compensate for it, so will always keep coming back! Definitely a must go for sushi.

Bavraj Dhahan

Amazing quality sushi. Sidewalk seating is awesome. Good price for quality

Alex Wells

Really interesting dishes. The octopus is the best I've ever had. And the roe is fantastic.

Ben Hoffman

great sushi. service a bit ..off..but nothing too deterring from the meal itself!

Alex Kattar

Food is great, service is ok. Hostess have an attitude somewhere between caress and dismissive. Past that, waiters were good. It’d enhance the experience if they’d accept reservations. It’s a small place, gets packed fast. If you’re not taking reservations, be accurate taking phone numbers. Make it a best practice to repeat back to customers, perhaps? Smile, be friendly, welcoming, and patient. If you’re at the door, you’re the first people deal with about the restaurant.

pxnification

Really delicious sushi. Great atmosphere. Expensive though.

Denise Figueroa

Portland definitely delivered! Bamboo Sushi did not disappoint. It's was an amazing experience.

jason keels

Pretty decent sushi, a little overpriced but this pearl district restaurant is a great location for a summer date night. Really enjoyed my Turmeric mule drink. Service was very nice as well. I would recommend

calico 710

Gorgeous location, excellent staff, breathtaking food. And fair prices! We will definitely be back!

Kenn Hughes

Excellent food with great choices of sake. Wonderful service, ate outside n people watch on a beautiful evening.

Reno Rockwitit

This place has great reviews which I'm sure could have been given by us as well had they took the time to acknowledge us. We had been seated by the hostess, they really weren't busy either, well busy jaw jacking amongst each other. 10 mins sitting, nothing. Walked out... Pay attention to your customers ppl!

Jen Gibson

Really incredible. Best wagu burger ever. Very affordable and cute.

Chi Culture

Dinner for two

Zachary Macdavid

Visiting from out of town our friends said we had to try this place and met us for dinner. Everything here was amazing. The server was quick, friendly and knew everything you could think of and more on the fish, even where it was cut. 3 of us got rolls and 1 got a burger, we also got the 100$ Omakase. Everything was delicious and ridiculously fresh. The Mononoke Mule is a must.

Elizabeth Baylor

Amazing sushi. Give them your price point and let the chef select your meal, but make sure to finish with the avocado nigiri. Too good to pause for photos.

Roy Chen

Solid spot. Cauliflower is great. Sushi is fresh. Mezcal old fashioned was fantastic.

Jason Gross

Best sushi I've ever had. Great sushi rolls, with excellent flavour combinations.

Matthew M

Decent fish. Some what pricey. Really busy on the weekends. Only negative is that they overcharged me, hopefully not intentionally.....

Silas Elash

Amazing place. The shishito pepper appetizer was sooooo good. Highly recommended.
