The number of star in this review reflects the current experience unlike some of the reviews that have been graded prior. The importance of couples having individuals time together to talk and share crucial. It was asked were would you like to eat? This was somewhere we had not over experience and had enjoyed in past visits. Past visits had seamed to have forecast, this current experience. The menu has gone up numerous times and the portions have decreased. The flavors were still bold and tasty. We probably try five to six dishes when we dine. Not every time but as and experience. Not everyone can drop that type of funds and nor are they that greedy. Its not hard to share . shallow on my part but when the potential bill overrides the rare one on one conversation. It just took something From the time out together.

Abuelo's is large enough to handle big groups. The food is always good. You can count on it being the same no matter who is in the kitchen. The service is great! It is definitely our favorite Mexican food restaurant in town. Best shrimp in town absolutely amazing steak medallions! Cold beer and good margaritas. Service can be slow but it’s worth the wait, the atmosphere is great as well.

The waitress was drunk. She kept spilling the drinks and forgetting things. The food wasn't very good either. I had the steak fajitas and they had no flavor and came with sauteed onions, beans from a can and halfway frozen rice, the guacamole was brown as well. We were there for a total of 1 hour and only 10mins was eating the rest we were waiting for food. Super dissatisfied.

We visited this location in Bricktown with friends. The setting is beautiful. Our waitress was new and struggled with the order. However, it all came out correct except for one plate. The food was hot and the portions were plentiful. The sauces and chips were refilled multiple times. We love Mexican food and visit many different establishments and this is one of our top five.

DO NOT RECOMMEND! This place is gross, bathroom is not taken care of and food is disgusting. Burned refried beans, crusty tortillas, and trash all over the floor. And My fiance told a manager about the bathroom and all he said was okay. It seemed like all the manager wanted to do was flirt with the Hostesses. And when we walked up the waitress was outside and cussed because we were coming to eat and were put in her section. Totally unfriendly and priced outrageous. For 2 people it was 50$. This place is not family friendly or kid safe. Plus we had to walk by a few hobos just to get to the restaurant. My Fiance got food poisoning from this place!

I was a party of one, do they sat me at the bar area. Service was terrible. I sat for 35 minutes with a closed menu waiting to order. The bartender/waiter walked past me at least 5 times not even looking. I don't know if he thought he'd already taken my order, or??? He finally noticed he hadn't taken my order, and with absolutely no apology for making me sit there for 35 minutes he took my order. I tried to jedi mind trick him into looking at me, but it never worked. I would have left, but my time was limited. Food (burrito) finally came and it was lackluster at best. It's not a very good abuelos. I've been to better. Keep walking.

Meh. For Tex-Mex I'd find another place. Hubby had the grande burrito and he's had better. I had the 2 enchilada choice. One chicken and one spinach. They were so flat I wasn't sure if there really was any filling. Service was good as far as checking in on us but the last step of quality check is the server. The picture I posted is the garnish for my dish. It's suppose to be lettuce, which is suppose to be green. As you can see, it's not. Being as I've had experience in restaurants I would never have allowed that to go out on a guests plate. You eat with you eyes first and that's the first thing I saw... won't go back. Meh

I usually try to stop here every trip through Amarillo for a great Mexican dinner experience. Waitress either did not pay attention to order or brought someone else's dinner. I felt tricked into getting a guacamole appetizer...one avocado for $8.15!. I may change my habit.

No service after being seated for 15 minutes. No water....absolutely nothing. Don't waste your time or energy going to this restaurant...there are plenty restaurants nearby that value your business!!

We went here as a business dinner and we had about 30 or more people. They had the room for us but they sat it up like a buffet style and served us but you could get one chicken or steak taco with rice/beans. Everyone had a glass of water at their seat but we had to ask for something else to drink which was never offered to us. The steak that was cut for the tacos was very chewy didnt care for it at all. After we did have dessert which was cheese cake and it had a caramel milk sauce on it which wasnt eye appealing and did not complement the cheesecake at all. We ended up paying 30$ each for our plates- not happy, not impressed, not ever going back- unfortunately.

The restaurant had great service! Some of the best we had received downtown. Princess was our waitress and she was so caring, quick and attentive. We enjoyed her! The food was just so bad. It was a busy Saturday night right at peak dinner time, so we figured the food would be the most fresh, but boy were we wrong. The queso was so cold it had a firm, cheese film layer on top of it when it came out. The chips were soggy and wet. Our main entrees tasted like expensive microwaved meals. It was a disaster. But thank God we loved our server. She was not the problem at all. Just wish the food was at the same standards.

First time visiting and I got my food to go. I ordered a chicken chimichanga with a side of potatoes. All the sauces that came with it were amazing and the chimichanga was absolutely delicious. I was also really impressed that it came in a metal container to make reheating in the oven that much easier. Will be going back!

We ordered the nachos grande and had seen some of our friiends get the same nachos and orderd out they looked delicious so that is what we did. Pd with tax a little over $13 and we were sooo disappointed when we got home and opened them. There wete 9 chips with a very small amount of meat ( ground beef ) with a small amount of cheese that had stuck to the cardboard box ...they were horrible. My husband & I tried eating them but wound up trashing them....the worst !!!! Not to mention pricey. Very disappointed

Thus was my second time, and it was every bit as good as the first. I like eating in the bar area, Clayton (bartender) explained menu & happy hour specials. I had the platinum hand shaken margarita...mmmm. I had one of their house specialties for dinner, pork tenderloin Abrigada, comes with a mashed potatoes and beans. Great flavors. They bring you chips w many salsas to mix. I'll surely stop in next time I'm passing through.

Very quick service. No wait on a Thursday at 5:30. I ordered Monterrey enchiladas, but was pathetically unprepared for the gut-busting smorgasbord of Mexican deliciousness coming my way. I had to take several breathers and even began sweating, but I nearly finished that pile of food. Please have mercy on me and the hotel room toilet I’m about to destroy.

I just want to put this out front, Abuelo's is not cheap. That being said, they make it worth what you spend. The interior is wonderfully decorated and the plates are fantastically full. If you are looking for fine dining with a flair then I suggest Abuelo's to you. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and most importantly they don't hover. Great for a night out with friends or lovers.

Food is amazing at Abuelo's, but the service is absolutely terrible. Drinks, salsa, and chips sit empty even though the waitress only had one other table. Which is normal when we go to Abuelo's. We tell the waitress thank you several times and got no response from her. Waitress was also a low talker, so even when she did say something, we struggled to hear her. I would suggest a change in the wait staff training and a manager who walks around to check on them and the customer.

Might go back and try ordering from the menu instead, but this place feels more like normal fast food tex mex buffet than anything else.

I honestly had not been here once in the 7 years I have lived here. Decided to meet up with a friend and my brother for lunch because it was close by and was honestly blown away. The waitress we had was very friendly and came around to ask us if we needed anything at perfectly timed intervals. The restaurant was moderately busy and had a wonderful atmosphere, and all around felt very welcoming and enjoyable. Will definitely visit again.

I went here based on the many reviews that stated this place is great. Sure, the chips and salsa are delicious and the guacamole isn't bad either but these two aspects were not enough to truly enjoy this restaurant when looking for vegan options. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas and was not pleased with them at all. For one, the beans that come with the fajitas are cooked in lard so we had to substitute them for black beans. The black beans were nothing special (i.e. I could have literally bought a can of black beans, heated them up in the microwave and replicated the same flavors/texture) Next, the vegetables brought out weren't even seasoned at all. I had to douse them in salt and pepper. The majority of the vegetables brought out was onion...mixed with some broccoli, some squash, and some zucchini, some carrots...but basically all onion. I would recommend switching it up and adding a "meatier" option to the vegetarian fajitas such as mushrooms. Also please season the vegetables

We had a very bad experience at Abuelos yesterday. We waited for a long time to be seated even though there were plenty of empty tables. The hosted just old us to wait and took way too long to seat us. She only came back to the reception area when another party showed up. Once seated we then waited again too long for drinks and even longer for food. We had a second round of those appetizer chips come out before our orders were even taken. To have spent over $100 at the restaurant I'd say our experience was very bad. Even our waitress seemed to not care about our table and would not even smile when talking to us. Oh, when we finally got the bill and paid the waitress again took forever getting our receipt. We spent 4 times more waiting than actually eating. This was on a Sunday around 530to 7:00pm. It did not look busy at all. I'll never come back here again.

The place nice and has a good Mexican feel to it. They have both a buffet and menus. The food served off the menu is fantastic, so if you have an hour or so, feel free to stop by and enjoy great food. If you are in a hurry they do have a buffet. It is not as good as the menu food (expected) but does offer a few decent options.

Sat down and the waitress took quite some time to get to us, and there was no drink menu at the table. Was served chewy, soggy, and greasy store-bought chips with salsa so watery it should be a crime. Ordered queso, and it was clearly microwaved Velveeta with splatter marks all down the edge of the shallow bowl. We asked for the check, and the waitress asked if it was because of something she did. $8 for a microwaved block of Velveeta. We then found a dead spider on the table. We left shortly after this.

The lunches for the two day meeting we has were fantastic with the exception of the chicken on day two which had so much salt in it that even the salt lover's couldn't eat it. Other than that the meeting was nice along with the snacks throughout the day.

This is one of my husband's favorite lunch buffets. They provide a good selection of Mexican standards on the buffet, including several kinds of enchiladas and tacos. I usually go for healthier fare and can find the fixings for a good salad on the buffet. The restaurant itself is in a neat old building with a nice open main dining room. Service is usually very good. If you park behind (north of) the building and bring your parking stub in, they will refund $3 toward your parking fee.

I liked Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant. I have not tried too many Mexican restaurants but the Abuelo’s . The waiter suggested us to try an item and we just loved the food. It had a combinations of tacos and enchilada which were very delicious. The price of the item is also good, not very expensive. The customer service was great!

My brother-in-law didn’t find 1 but 2 HAIRS in his food! How Disgusting! I will never come here again after the humiliation I went through with my family! They came down from Texas and California for my wedding I took them out the next day for brunch I thought I made a good choice as this was one of my fav. Places to come eat at. My family was already there waiting for me when I got there the waitress came to get mine and my husbands drinks she looked annoyed she was rolling her eyes as she took our drinks I almost asked for another server but I didn’t wanna cause a scene in front of my family so I bit my tongue for their sake. Then when we got our food my brother-in-law found 2 hairs In his food it was so disgusting he lost his appetite when the manager came he pulled the plate away like it was no big deal! He offered to pay his meal like that’s what he wanted a free meal he didn’t get to enjoy! And that’s about all he offered. Then when my parents went to the front desk to pay out of courtesy because they didn’t want us to know they were picking up the tab, our rude waitress was yelling at them from the table “what are they doing!” Looking at them with eyes that can kill! If she would have been doing her job she would of noticed we were ready to go for at least 20-30 minutes! If it were for me I would have Let them know but my family is humble I didn’t say anything because they don’t like any type of scenes. I came in Sunday 5/19/19 @ 11am we had a party of 13.

This was our first time eating here as were are traveling home from vacation. I saw the reviews on the internet and we choose to eat here. I can not recommend this place enough. The food, the service and the management were AWSOME!!!!!!. I can promise you this much any time we are in Amarillo for any reason at all this is place we are eating for sure for amazing mexican food. The prices are not expensive and the food is out of this world. So if you want great mexican food at a reasonable price you have got to go eat at Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant.

I have been going to Abuelos with my friends and family for a while now. I happen to go to this establishment with 20 people for a weekend dinner. Unfortunately i left my wallet in the table when we left. I called them in and they confirmed that they found my wallet and told me it was safe and I could only pick it up next day as it was already late. I was glad that they found it and went the next day to get my it. When i got my wallet all my money inside it was gone and when i told my concern to the manager they said they could not help me as the place where we sat didn’t have any camera and they totally trust their staff. The regional manager also contacted me and told me same. I am not here to play blame games but i just cannot come into terms with what happened. They gave me my wallet and the money was gone. I know i was stupid enough to not take care of my stuff but these kinds of things happen in day to day life. We are humans and accidents and forgetting something is not intentional and can happen with anyone. I am just not comfortable going back to these establishments where there is no credibility, security and no cameras!!! They can say good by to all the business I have given to them all these years. Its just outrageous!! I am just editing this review because i am not able to reply to the restaurant management who replied to this post and offered to investigate. I sent three emails and no reply. If restaurant management is not serious about the matter they should not be wasting my time and write unhelpful review that can be seen by public. I have already come to the terms that no actions or even effort is going to be done for this case. So i can live without coming to Abuelo’s. Please don’t waste my time!!

Excellent dinner and very unique style, not the typical Mexican food. Mom had ground the beef tacos that were wonderful. Very flavorful! The lime rice was very tasty. I had the seafood enchiladas. The shrimp and scallops were tender and tasty. The enchilada sauce was soooo very tasty. An absolute 10. Service also excellent. Highly recommend! We made notes, when coming into town again, we will be repeat customers.

By far the worst experience I have ever at a restaurant. We PAID FOR a room and were not only given the most piss poor excuse for a server but even after 2 complaints, were only provided with slightly above bare minimum effort in service. We were there to celebrate a birthday and it took 23 minutes after we sat down to even get asked for a drink which was after the first complaint. The server was absolutely appalling in her attitude but based off of her manager who sat propped up at the host table never coming back even after being addressed, I can see what kind of standard is held. The multitude of us at the table have been in the service industry for years and will all be making sure that this experience is not repeated as it was disgusting.The bartender served beers by the can next to the glass instead of pouring them when a sloppy beer ordered. The food was the same as usual, just good. Not great but not terrible so that is the only thing this store didn't completely obliterate. I could go on but I won't. Trust me... the $450 minimum for the room might as well have gone to the homeless guy out front on the step asking for money as you walked in because I can guarantee he would have done a better job which honestly embarrasses me to say since there is no reason why this should ever be an issue for a group of 15.

Just passing through Amarillo. Being that it was Labor's Day everything was closed except Abuelos. I was unexpectedly surprised by how great this place was. Amazing service, staff was very attentive bringing out drinks. Food came out very fast and our waiter came back several times to check us on us and ask about our meal. We've been on the road for about a week and this was the best meal we've had so far. My steak salad was superb the steak was 10x better than steak we had in a steakhouse yesterday. We got some fajitas to go and they gave us a more than generous serving of salsa. Superb, excellent, would highly recommend this place. Amazing food and service.

We went on the 4th of July and had their Margarita special plus regular Margaritas. My Mom had the Chile Relleno plate and I had Shrimp Mango Tacos plate. We also had an appetizer of guacamole. Both our meals were wonderful; however, my Shrimp Tacos were outstanding. They are my absolute favorite thing from Abuelo’s now and I’d recommend them to anyone. Great service, fair prices, and beautiful atmosphere.

We lived in okc for years and used to eat at another Mexican restaurant in Bricktown. Yesterday while attending an event at the convention center we were saddened after getting to bricktown and finding them closed. Abuelos has been here for decades So we tried it. We stood at the front desk for about 5 minutes while the staff carried on back at the edge of the bar. When the hostess came to seat a party of 10 in front of us. She was very rude. Our server was wonderful. The food was fine unless you are looking for true Mexican spice. Mostly an upscale Tex mex stop. If looking for authentic Mexican dishes in okc look elsewhere

Update:.... It keeps going down. I used to LOVE this place. This past time my Abrigadas had raw bacon, I told the waiter, he claimed that's how they come because they are grilled. Horrible answer!!! So he then brought me a plate with some bacon! He should have brought me a new properly cooked meal. I did not eat the bacon, I took off the uncooked bacon and put it on the plate (it was slimy and rubbery). I asked for a discount l, so he pulls the ticket off my hand and leaves. Horrible! I wont name the waiter, maybe he was having a bad day and dont want him to get reprimanded for this. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Because of all this I've dropped it to 2 stars.

Went to Abuelos, this is how it went, front desk girl was witty and charming, we had chips and multiple types of salsa delivered almost as soon as we sat down and they were warm and tasty. We ordered a cold beverage and our meals. Chicken enchiladas and grandpas favorite and they were both just awesome. The wait staff was over the top. I'm thinking we are coming back tomorrow night before we leave town....highly recommend

Wonderful restaurant! Especially on a cold winter day. Inside is two stories and completely open to the ceiling and looks like your sitting in a town center outdoor plaza South of Texas. They have a lunch buffet for 10 bucks that includes some pretty tasty items and they will discount the meal the cost of parking , 3 bucks during weekdays.

None of the food was seasoned very well at all. If you order anything expect it to be Bland. The margaritas are very low alcohol content and mostly sugar. $65.00 for three people wasn't horrible so that's a plus.

My family & I love Abuelos BUT this one was not so organized. We came in at 2 no other people before or after us and had to wait 20 minutes for a table for 11 people when there was clearly tables available. I understand waiting so they can put a table together for 11 people but 20 minutes is too long for the after the lunch rush and before the supper rush. I recommend this staff go to Plano, TX and do some retraining by their staff.

We arrived w a group of eight (8) @5:25 on a Thursday night. We were waited on promptly (water, drinks, order taken). We received our bill promptly as well...but the in between was dreadful. It took 1 hour and 12 minutes to get our food and when we (at least the four ppl immediately seated close to me) did get it (the meat portion and the rice)it was very, VERY dry and lacked any taste at all. The charro beans were passable but had more “juice” than actual beans. Overall, a poor experience for an established restaurant. Won’t be back.

It's okay. No complaints, but nothing special either. Update: I was looking at this review that I wrote months ago and wanted to include this bit. I had been on business and I think I might have even mentioned that to the server. While I was doing my expenses a few weeks later, I noticed that the server (a tall, thin, younger woman) had changed the tip from 5 (which was more than 20%) to 10 dollars. Pretty annoying and if I had more time I would have called to complain.

We ask to seat a party of twenty and they split us up in parties of ten with table's of ten across the room from one another. The waiter was very friendly but he was very slow about getting chips or drink's to the table. The food was second rate and order was not as specified. The bar tender was very rude.
